  1. Introduction Well, this is one of the most incoherent theories I've ever cobbled together. But I think I have something, at the very least. Regardless, here we go. I will first state the theory, for the sake of retaining reader attention, then explain the evidence I have to prove it. Whatever the case, I believe I have found the nature of whatever resonance the Truthwatchers possess, or at the very least an ability they somehow employ. I will delay no further; I believe the Truthwatchers had the ability glimpse the future. Please understand, I have not taken temporary leave of my sanity. I know Renarin is not a true Truthwatcher, and I understand the Surges as well as any Cosmerenaut. Allow me to present my evidence, such as it is. Evidence 1: The Urithiru Gem Archive I think everyone who's closely read the epigraphs has flirted with this theory at one time or another. I quote below an entry made by an unknown Truthwatcher, detailing their plan to deny Voidlight to the parsh armies. See below: It has already been established that the gem type corresponds with the Order of Knight who recorded the message. I invite all to look at the final message, recorded in "a particularly small emerald." Obviously, whoever recorded it must have felt a need to record their foresight. Now, this can be taken two ways. The Truthwatcher had an uncannily acute sense of foresight, and very accurately judged the eventual findings and conclusions of a group of scholars, tacticians, and warriors. The word "foresaw" was used in a more literal sense. I'm inclined to believe the latter, for the fact that the gem was "particularly small" as well as the Truthwatcher's evident need for secrecy. Evidence 2: The Surgebinding Chart It is interesting to note how specifically the Truthwatchers are placed. Directly below the Bondsmiths. Not only this, but a strange line connects the two, completely unrelated to the surrounding art. I am not the first to note this; indeed, another user asked a question concerning it. Brandon admits that there is some significance to this placement, and that Truthwatchers are different from other Orders in much the same way a Bondsmith is. How interesting, especially in light of Evidence 1. Evidence 3: The Nature of Resonances We have some details concerning the nature of resonances. Kaladin and Shallan---and to a certain extent, Jasnah and Lift---have all demonstrated abilities that occur from their two Surges interacting. Kaladin can adopt far more squires, and those of far more power, than any other order. Shallan has uncanny mnemonic abilities that Brandon attributes to her order. The same goes for Kaladin. Jasnah is noted by Wit as having an uncanny sense of direction, leading to some speculation among the fanbase. Then Lift, who displayed a very keen sense of comprehension in the face of street slang worse than that of Spook's. What's interesting is how all these resonances seem have certain common characteristics. These are the ones I have noted. The resonances we do have, and some suspected ones, are at least tangentially related to the Surges that produce them. The resonances, at least in the case of Knights Radiant, seem to follow their order's underlying themes. There seems to be an almost thematic connection between the Surges and the resonance. Evidence 4: Renarin Fear not, intrepid readers, for I yet retain my sanity. I bring up Renarin only to point out the connection between this theory and one of Renarin's main abilities. As a Cosmerenaut, I do not believe much in coincidences, and find it very convenient that a Truthwatcher of old "foresaw" something, and Renarin, a corrupted Truthwatcher, sees the future in intermittent fits. Putting It All Together From all these pieces of evidence, I believe enough data has been gathered to draw conclusions. So, diving right in, we start with the very high likelihood that a Truthwatcher past somehow saw the future. This was something he fear, or was ashamed of, but regardless felt necessary to maintain secrecy over. Evidence 2 introduces the thought that Truthwatchers have some abilities that almost resemble those of a Bondsmith. At the very least, they have something Cognitively and Spiritually related. We know that seeing the future involves the Spiritual Realm, where time has no meaning. The conclusions drawn from Evidence 3 are the shakiest I have to offer, but I'll do my best to be clear. Truthwatchers of Ideals surrounding the nature of truth, and seeking it out. Thus, they are commonly scholars and scientists. They seek to banish lies and understand the world better. More than that, the Surges exclusive to Truthwatchers are those of Progression and Illumination. What an interesting combination. Looking at these purely thematically, a combination of the two might illuminate a future path, a way of progressing forwards. Finally, Renarin. Again, I find it far too coincidental how he can see the future. And perhaps this provides some insight as to the nature of Sja-anat's Enlightening. Maybe Enlightened spren almost lean into the resonance, and that is the pattern of affected Orders. Conclusion None of these pieces of evidence alone serve to help prove this theory. When taken together, however, the connections drawn follow some common paths. If you have any thoughts over this, please comment so. Any and all criticism are welcome. Many thanks for reading, Longshot97

  2. I've been really low the past few days, and while I'm still on the Star Wars high from Clone Wars I opted to boost my mood a little by watching the most mediocre movies ever made: The Prequels. As an Original Trilogy purist I figured I should probably re-immerse myself in them in order to formulate a more educated opinion. Not that this rewatch was scientific by any means - I spent an awful lot of the Anakin x Padme scenes on reddit - but I gathered some good intel and reeducated opinions from them. Without further ado, here we are: 1) The Phantom Menace I have good memories associated with this movie. Ages ago it was showing in a local cinema for some reason, and my dad took me to go see it. We were watching it in 3D (with the cardboard glasses), and at my age I honestly just had a blast. Podracing, lightsaber duels, big explosions - heck yeah! A lot of people regard it as the worst Star Wars (or did, anyways, before the Sequels came into being), but I always thought it was a solid standalone at the very least. Something about Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn as the main characters doing their own thing really just gives it this solid vibe for me. Almost like it isn't supposed to be a part of a bigger story, and just that it's an origin for how Obi-Wan came to apprentice Anakin with a bunch of sick action packed in between. And upon rewatch? It kinda holds up. I'll be completely honest and admit that the Podracing and first half of the Darth Maul duel (truel? Is it a truel if two of them are on the same side?) weren't quite as incredible as I remembered, but that's probably because I've been absolutely saturated with S-tier anime action sequences for the past while. For the truel in particular it really picks up when it's just Obi-Wan versus Maul, even if only for about thirty seconds before he gets kicked into a pit. Far from my favorite Star Wars, but I really don't think it's as bad as people seem to believe. Though I guess anything with Jar Jar in it immediately gets negative poitns. 2) Attack of the Clones I had seen this movie once before. Once, many moons ago, when my siblings and I were like "hey dad, we've never seen the other Star Wars movies; we should get on that" and he was like "mkay, your loss." This movie is such a drag. It is so incredibly boring and slow and uneven. Everything just felt so... inconsequential. Obi-Wan Kenobi seeing the massive clone army for the first time is supposed to be this realization of a sinister plot behind the scenes, but instead it's like "mhm. clones." Count Dooku just feels tossed in there haphazardly, and the duel (truel???) against him is far less than interesting for the most part. And don't even get me started on Anakin x Padme, and don't even start getting me started on C3PO. Running through the factory? Boring. Jedi leaping into action on Geonosis? Arbitrary. Clones coming to save everyone's hide? Inconsequential. But I'll give credit where it's due. I remembered thinking the Yoda vs Dooku fight was absolutely ridiculous as a kid, but it's really not quite as bad as I seemed to remember. The weird screams our lil' green friend made were a little out of place, but I recalled him leaping from wall to wall like a pinball instead of the otherwise decently-paced fight that the two of them had. And Obi-Wan, of course, was as wonderful as always. Politics were still as underwhelming as always. 3) Revenge of the Sith In my stark hatred for the prequels during my youth, I always purposefully despised this one out of nothing but spite. So many people I knew insisted that it was the best Star Wars ever made, and I just couldn't put up with the fact that a prequel could be given such a title. When people say the prequels are good, they mean Revenge of the Sith is good. And it is. Maybe I was just happy to come off the absolute drag that was Attack of the Clones, but blimey does this movie hit the spot. Starting off right into several minutes of high-octane space combat, just to leap into a remarkable set of lightsaber action and setting up Palpatine's intentions and Anakin's weaknesses. Anakin and Obi-Wan actually feel like old friends, the battles actually feel like something is happening, and somehow they managed to do with General Grievous in half a movie what they couldn't with Count Dooku in two. And Padme is somewhat bearable, too! I'll stick to some of my old opinions though. Anakin going from trying to save Palpatine to killing younglings in five minutes feels as rushed and choppy as always, the Order 66 montage does not feel nearly as consequential as it should, and I feel like the movie would be a hell of a lot better if they could just cut out the Yoda vs Sideous fight altogether. Some stuff that definitely changed was my opinion of the writing and dialogue as a whole. Like I said, there were weak spots (mostly Anakin x Padme), but honestly a lot of the dialogue seemed a lot better than I seemed to remember. The scene where Palpatine reveals himself to Anakin as the sith lord was actually pretty dang great, I think; and don't even mention literally every word to come out of Kenobi's mouth. And overall the pacing was a heck of a lot better than - oh I dunno - Attack of the Clones. And Anakin vs Obi-Wan, man... It just... (>._.)> I'm still team Original Trilogy but damn this movie slaps. - Overall - The prequels aren't great, but they're Star Wars to the bone and always will be. That's how I've seen them ever since I finished Rise of Skywalker: maybe they aren't good, but at least they aren't insulting to the franchise. This is bona fide Star Wars. This is the real deal - the good and the bad. Yeah, the progression of the plot is less than great in most cases. I agree that Palpatine is the GOAT because he fabricated a war to create an army to turn on the greatest power in the galaxy to conquer it all and rule for dozens of years - and in light of that I honestly wish that that they had more of of the politics. Not more scenes, necessarily, but more of the intricacies and nuances going into it. All we ever saw were the tail ends of his major plays, but there had to have been hundreds or even thousands of other actions and decisions he'd had made along the way to get there. All we saw was the senate cheering and applauding his acceptance of emergency powers and formation of the empire, but what bribes and laws and influences had to go into effect first? And honestly... that Anakin x Padme? b l e c h. You don't need me to tell you that. How in the world did George Lucas think that two people who'd known each other for a couple days at most meeting up after ten bloody years would wind up making out after just hours and then married less than a week after that? And make that seem at all like a healthy relationship? That scene in Clone Wars Season 7? The one where Rex guards the door from Kenobi while Anakin talks with Padme over hologram? That one scene developed their relationship a thousand times better than all of Attack of the Clones. Just... git gud, writers. I've been spoiled by Andor, is what I've come to realize. I'm still Team Original, but really that's only because of the significance to Anakin Skywalker's story that these movies add. The Tragedy of Darth Vader the Great: that's what these six movies are about. George Lucas said he wrote all of the original trilogy as one script, starting with Darth Vader entering the starship and ending with him throwing Sideous down the reactor shaft. When we say we're done with the Skywalkers we mean we're done with the Skywalkers: there is nothing more to add to their story. Anakin was and is the Chosen One, bringing balance to the force by destroying the sith. So maybe I'm not Team Original? Maybe I'm just Team Frick The Sequels like everyone else with a brain. I actually liked The Force Awakens but that's a discussion for another time That's all I got. B y e

(Look, it snowed, and I'm feeling really good, so there.) Yesterday I was laying on the couch and my dad randomly threw me an Oatmeal Cream Pie and it made me very very happy I hope you all are having a very good day!

  12. I know it's not that serious, but i'm literally obsessed with frogs, and the first frog item that i've owned is a little scraggly stuffed animal frog that i got from my old best friend right before i went to Boystown, which is basically a youth mental hospital. This happened in November of 2021. Anyway, it has a lot of sentimental value to me. I've recently moved back in with my grandparents, and I can't find it anywhere. i've looked practically everywhere for it and i can't seem to find it. So now I'm worried that my mom's boyfriend's stepdaughter has it, because she would come stay with us every weekend and she would always ask me if she could sleep with my frog. she also tends to take my stuff without asking first. im not necessarily blaming her, im just worried that it got stolen or that it maybe got lost in the process of moving things

  14. Hmm, it seems really unlikely to me that such a useful ability of one of the Orders would become so heavily taboo. I interpret the enlightened Truthwatcher access to future sight as them being given a glimpse at Odium’s futuresight, which Honour lacks. I don’t think the gem archive Truthwatcher would be so scared if it was a regular occurrence for them. It’s possible it was a vision from Cultivation directly, warning off the consequences. Anyway, I took my reasoning in the opposite direction, I figure the Truthwatchers can see the past. Illumination being the Surge of revelation, Progression suggesting time, and prediction being “of the enemy”, it makes sense that they would be able look into the past as a way to gather and verify information, especially since they don’t seem to have literal truth powers. Renarin does something like this when he creates an allomantic gold style shadow of Moash. I imagine a Truthwatcher could create illusions that play out past events (yes, I want an Urithiru noir detective novella). On a side note, I don’t know if Jasnah has GPS abilities, if you’re referring to the WoR epilogue, she was just in the Cognitive Realm where she would have been able to see a group of souls in the distance indicating a village.

  15. Ooh, you brought up an excellent point, and one I meant to address. We understand that seeing the future is something that involves the Spiritual Realm, that all Shards are capable of to some degree, and is not entirely uncommon across magic systems. I meant to include that it is very likely the Truthwatchers (assuming my theory to be correct) began to conceal this ability or downplay it when it became common custom to view seeing the future as "of the Voidbringers." This explains the secrecy of the Truthwatcher from the Urithiru Gem Archive, and why we don't see this recorded anywhere.

Anyway i'm gonna see if i can temporarily recover in the next fourty minutes via tea and hot shower and cough drops so i can make it. Wish me luck guys (Also that Sanderson article in wired was absolutely atrocious and Sanderson's extremely mature response made me respect him more than i already did.)

I can tell you but I need you to promise you'll let me give you back what I can of your memory as soon as you're out of the clinic. Fine whatever. Great! So you don't have enough energy to make another net so you'll just have to blast any falling thingys in your way and listen to my instructions okay? Fun. Which way first? Start the way you went before but then there are some weird turns and stuff. And there might be some giant rocks. Insa took off through the library. Occasionally there were some rocks and Saar would give some directions. Okay we're here! That's just a big pile of rocks... Oh you'll just have to blow those apart. They should be behind there. Insa shot a giant lightning bolt at the pieces of wall. They broke into small pieces and flew everywhere. A couple hit her and gave her a few cuts on her face and arms. But now she could see the people. They all looked terrified. "Y'all okay?'' A couple of them nodded. "Good. I know a way out so if you'll follow me..." They all silently stood up. "Um, okay let's go." She turned and started running back down towards the wyrmhole. Saar? Why won't they say anything? You didn't say a word for like two weeks after the camps. They're just scared. Right. When they reached the wyrmhole Insa directed the people through. She almost followed them but then decided to wait for Bookwyrm. What are you doing? Why aren't you going through? I have to make sure he's okay and he gets out.

Be a Bondsmith with medallion granting F-steel, with a lot of stored speed, use that speed to touch him first and take away his Connections and powers. Have access to F-steel again, with a lot of speed, and aluminum spike, spike him with aluminum spike in the correct binding point, which would remove all his powers. Stab him with Nightblood, if possible from Cognitive Realm. Have access to some invested art and be a Dawnshard. Drop a primar cube where he stands, charged with powerful Allomantic aluminum, and shoot him in the head. Or use a powerful enough suppressor fabrial. That's hard. He's god. God cannot be killed. God cannot be overthrown. Your rebellion—you think he hasn't seen its like before? 16.1. While he's monologuing, tap lots of speed, put a shotgun with aluminum pellets to his head, shoot and pray to gods it works, before he kills you in return. I have nothing more for now. Fullborn with F-steel is just ridiculously overpowered.

  30. Update on my previous SU, from research on dissociation I’ve come to a few semi-conclusions. The types of the condition that seem to fit me best: Derealization See objects changing in shape, size or colour Feel detached or separate from the world around you See the world as 'lifeless' or 'foggy' Feel like you're seeing the world through a pane of glass Feel like you're living in a dream Feel as if other people are robots (even though you know they aren't) This fits me in the way that I sometimes feel detached or separate from the world in the way that I feel alone. When you think of the standard “oh I feel so alone” you probably think like “nobody understands me or my struggles”. For me, it’s more like I just feel almost literally alone. Like what I’m experiencing is just separate from everything else. I interact with others and “pass into their reality” but most of the time I’m the “sole survivor”, so to say. I think this could be do to the fact that I seldom tell people (even people I’m close to) about my problems and that may have sort of closed me off a bit to the rest of the world. Mentally, at least. I don’t really experience the other bits of derealization though. Dissociative Amnesia Have gaps in your memory where you can't remember certain events Not be able to remember information about yourself or your life history Forget how to do something you’ve been able to do well in the past Find that you have items that you don't remember ever owning For me it’s just massive gaps in my memory. I’ve always chalked it up to me just having bad memory, but when I really think about it, it feels kind of weird. Like when I’m just looking back on life, I have difficulty remembering anything that isn’t one of my few very distinct memories. When people bring something up, I can sometimes recall my participation in it or whatever but I seem to not remember a lot of stuff that friends and family remember fondly. Right now, in all 23 years of my existence I can probably tell you about 15 of my most significant experiences. My life has been perfectly average but by no means boring, so that seems off to me. Anyways, thanks for reading if you did, if you have anything to say or add it would be appreciated. TLDR: Dissociative amnesia and Derealization are two forms of Dissociation I believe I am experiencing and I will continue to research and learn about it!

  31. Do you ever feel like you're just... alone? I don't really mean like emotionally, but like you just feel literally alone. You could look out the window of your house and see cars driving along the road, people out taking walks and playing at the park, and you just feel alone. Like you might as well be looking out at an empty nuclear wasteland. When you're sitting with a friend or two, you feel like the sole survivors on Earth. When you're with your family, you feel like it's just you guys on an empty planet. You could be walking through a crowded mall or waiting in line at a busy store and it just feels like you're the only one there. Do any of you know what I'm talking about? It's kind of surreal, right?

  33. So, I'm almost certain others have theorized this already, but after some extensive searching, I was unable to find anyone on here who did. So, here we go. In Epilogue 7, Marsh approaches Wax, Steris, and Marasi before Wayne's statue. When asked on how he walks about without drawing attention, he passes it off as emotional Allomancy. Still, Wax expresses his doubts. I think all Cosmerenauts on all worlds stirred in their beds with that phrase. But regardless, this moves on to my theory. I think Marsh moves about unseen through a combination of emotional Allomancy... and Feruchemical duralumin. To quote from the Coppermind, Feruchmeical duralumin functions as such. This seems a very likely explanation for that "something more" Wax postulates. Granted, don't know if Marsh was given spikes following the Catacendre, and there is no way of knowing if Rashek was aware of duralumin's Feruchemical properties. Still, he was a Feruchemist himself, and discovered duralumin. It makes sense he would test it. Anyway, there's my three cents. Thoughts? ~Longshot97

  35. The biggest evidence that those are different metals and Mistings is in Snapping in HoA and math of it. 1/16 of those Snapped by Mists were made into Misting of one, specific metal. Those who were ill the longest became Atium Mistings (alloyed version). But that was still only 1/16 of them. Because Atium and Malatium were both inserted by Preservation to base Allomantic set of powers, and replaced 2 other metals (bendalloy and cadmium), this means it has to be like I said, electrum and atium-electrum Mistings are separate, otherwise 2/16 of Snapped would be Atium Mistings, and would be ill the longest. This wasn't the case. And then again, Misting can only burn one metal. The same applies for atiummind and Feruchemy.
