  1. Scene: about a month ago Okay so I had a gig for a twin seven-year-olds' birthday party, which was pretty fun. I played John Williams and Hisaishi and Jazz and Broadway and all the cool music. And then a DJ shows up! When I was hired to play for like four hours. Obviously I was very confused, so the mom explained that he was her bro-in-law. But THEN she asked if we could have a music battle! WHAT! So then basically we had a weird playoff that was kinda awesome and weird and he was like adding to my playing with beat tracks and stuff than playing his own stuff. And it was really weird And yesterday he emailed me and asked for lessons. What a weird turn of events (Also the mom asked me to teach her twin sons so my business is booming )

  2. I was looking at the interactive map and timeline, and I realized something. Urithiru and the Nightwatcher Valley line up almost perfectly North to South. That means that the Highstorm hits both of them at the same time, and at that moment all of the Bondsmith spren are Connected. Do I have the faintest idea what happens, or what this could possibly cause? No, but I refuse to believe that this just happened to be the case. Something big is going to come of this.

  7. Several years ago, I was living in Pennsylvania. It was winter, and I was on my way to work. There was a highway interchange that kind of looks like there was a big, inconvenient rock wall right where they wanted to put the highway, so they just dug a hole through it and left big towering walls of stone to either side. It had snowed the night before, but I wasn't worried, the snowplows had been out and the road was basically clean. ...right up until I got into the shadow of the rock wall, that is. Where the sun hadn't been yet, I suddenly found myself sliding on a patch of black ice, completely unable to control the car. It was very slowly turning, so I was gradually approaching a side-impact collision with a bunch of stone at over 40 MPH. My car didn't have side airbags, so I kind of figured, "OK, this is it. Hope I'm ready for the next life." All of a sudden, just as I reached the edge of the road, I felt something impact the side of the car. There was a distinct thump about a foot or two behind me, and suddenly I was pointed straight down the road and had traction again. I wasn't sure what I had hit, but I wasn't about to stop the car and check, just in case whatever it was had damaged something and I might have had trouble getting it started again. There was a repair shop close to work so I figured I'd take care of it there. When I got to work, though, I got out of the car and looked it over, and there was no damage. Anywhere. At all. And I know enough about physics to understand just how much sense that does not make. The force required to redirect such a heavy piece of metal moving that quickly, in such a short amount of time, should have left some very serious marks behind! Instead, something I could not see, but definitely did feel, saved my life and put me back exactly on track to where I needed to go. I know there are angels watching over us. I know this because I hit one with my car.

  9. Hi! It's me! That1Cellist here, to rant about my fellow teenage boys and teenage boy stereotypes. So, I went to a youth activity tonight. It was a youth dinner, which sounded nice. I was going to be going there right after getting out of school because I had to stay really late for an orchestra. So, needless to say, I was also hungry. Being the fat pig I am, I was looking forward to eating food at this activity. However, on the way there, I discover that this activity was planned specifically the way it was in order to get the young men to come. Basically, they thought, "Oh, the young men like eating, so that's how we'll get them to come to the activity." Of course, the fools actually showed up, therefore proving to everyone that teenage boys are food driven idiots. I thought this entire situation was extremely stupid, and I felt insulted, so I didn't eat. But the fact that I even wanted to in the first place puts me far closer in personlity to those other boys than I would like to admit. And I hate that. So. Much. hahaha this SU was so stupid why did I write it jfrioahoglyuiaefh.hvbauks

Uhm *prepares muffins* Would anyone be interested? *cough* Oh! And I came up with a new word of positive affirmation! I know we already have like "yes" "yep" "yup" "yeah" "Yees" but what about YEMS? Basically, it's yes, but with yams. And it's extremely fun to say! yemsyemsyemsyemsyems Enjoy! *throws muffins*

  13. I've been claiming PM Spider since before this game began. I stand by it. That does sound like an excellent thing for someone to claim now if they get scanned as evil. @ everyone, claim it now or I won't believe you later if you do. Laughing very hard at "Bottom Text" My money is on Steel hoping to get Striker's other role, then failing and getting Lynchbait, then staying quiet about it to avoid outing their team Real talk, these questions have caused problems this game, while contributing fairly little, so they're better off unasked. I'd thought about bots not being able to lie, but I think the Tani thing was an OOG effect, not an internal one. I'm not a bot because I solved your pathetic picture puzzle: Ahem. *points to thread page count* That's on you. :P. Prepared for what?

  14. I have discovered something very shocking and amazing. Groundhogs are supposed to live up to 14 years in captivity. Fairly normal for an animal of that size I think. BUT. Punxsutawney Phil, the official Groundhog Day groundhog is 125 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!! How you might ask? According to the official website, he is given an "elixir of life" every summer. WHAT. So we can make immortal animals now? Or is he just being replaced and nobody knows...

  23. I don't know about all that girl and boy being dumb in different ways, but I had kind of a cool experience with my grandpa a couple years ago. My grandpa was a super nice guy. He was different when he was younger, but he changed and his family came to love him. I didn't really spent hours of quality time with him because my family moved like 2 1/2 hours away and whenever we went down for dinner or something I wanted to hang out with cousins. I still loved him but didn't know him very well. I was able to get my patriarchal blessing from him (As he was a patriarch) I also was able to go to a Priesthood General Conference Session with him. It was a Easter Saturday, so I was at my other grandma's (not this grandpa's wife) house and was wanting to do stuff with my cousins, who I also didn't see much. Grandpa texted and asked if I wanted to go to the session, and I didn't really want to. My mom asked me how often I'd get to go to a General Conference Session with my grandpa. We went to JCW's after and had hamburgers, which I never had done with my grandpa before (go eat out with him that is). I don't really remember anything he said, but I do remember being happier that I'd went. This all happened within 8 months or so before he passed away from internal bleeding in his head. He was kept on life support, until his family realized he wouldn't be living for long. God allowed me to have time with my grandpa. I know it may not seem too significant. Maybe it could all be coincidence. As a wise tortoise once said, "There are no accidents."

  24. I agree, but mostly I'm very, very tired of feeling or being labeled as stupid simply for being a teenage boy. I mean, I am an idiot, but it hurts a little bit more when other people just assume I'm dumb or somehow inferior simply because I'm a teenage boy.

  28. Hey y’all! I almost never post outside the SE subforum, but I came across something interesting while reading one of my Greek texts for a class. It’s from Lucian’s True Stories, or Άληθη Διηγήματα Α’. Here’s the relevant passage and my (admittedly novice) translation: The parts of interest here are Lucian’s name for these soldiers (Ἀνεμοδρόμοι), which is literally a fusion of the Greek words for Wind (άνεμος) and Runner (δρομέας, here given the nominative plural ending), as well as his description of them as light infantrymen who fly without wings. Obviously the mechanics look a bit different with Brandon, but has anyone ever asked him if he got the concept of the name for this Order from Lucian? In the absence of a WoB, could someone bring this up to him who has the chance? I find this to be a startling coincidence

  29. I'm convinced that quantum physics is actually easy to understand, but they make it sound complicated so that they seem smart. Me: So what's spin? Everything I found trying to explain quantum mechanics: spin is a fundamental part of a particle Me: yeah, but what does it do? Them: it's like angular momentum Me: yeah but how does a particle with a spin of 1 behave differently from a particle with a spin of 0 or 1/2? Them: spin is a fundamental part of a particle. Me:

  30. So it was shown in TLM that allomancers can use identity-less investiture to hyperfuel their powers. Looking at it that way, a lot of the comments Brandon has made about Scadrial being low investiture start to make sense and I think I've figured it out. Allomancers, Sand Masters, and Aetherbound use physical materials to open small gateways to the spiritual realm in order to access their powers, whereas individuals like Radiants, Awakeners, Forgers, and Elantrains use investiture directly, allowing them to access it in a greater form. This puts using Stormlight and the Mists on the same level, which is why Brandon compared them so often Now I don't think that mistings getting identity free stormlight would be blasting apart buildings like Vin with Kredik Shaw, as that would require massive amounts of it, but they could definately use it to push on trace metals. This is why the ghostbloods are so intent on getting it, and why Selish, Nalthian and Rosharan magics seem so powerful compared to others. Pure investiture can elevate magic from powerful to insane.

  33. I wouldn't say I do typical stupid teenager things, but I am very dumb. And I hate when I feel as if I'm inferior to other people for things that are out of my control. I have problems too, okay? Maybe I want to cry. You hear me, world? I want to be seen as capable and rational, not some hormonal fool who's always doing stupid things while the girls are intelligent and "mature". We are. We are. We are. Okay, maybe not you, but I am. I am very, very disposable. I'm tired of everyone just assuming I'm prone to making stupid decisions because I'm a being a teenage boy. I am, probably, but I hate it I hate it I hate it.

  34. ....I beg to differ. I am insulted and affronted. These words to not apply to me. Nor you, nor really anyone else. Prone to making stupid decisions sometimes? Yes. But not incredibly so, and never, ever, disposable. That's a powerful experience. I've heard similar stories myself from family and friends, but it's always good to have a reminder that there's always something more, someone watching.

  36. Yes we are incredibly stupid and dumb and disposable. Stupid. Very much stupid. Instead of making us feel bad about ourselves, someone should just put us out of our misery. There are various ways to do that. Not all are death.

  39. Vivi followed Willow in the room, trusting her assesment that it was safe to do so. She kept her attention on the hallway behind her, listened for footsteps, for the sounds of a fight, of someone running towards them. Instead she heard a voice. I... mean you no harm... watcher." The creature said. "Not so long as you... mean me none." She lifted her hands and rubbed over her arms to cover the shiver that ran along her body. Vivi frowned slightly and then turned towards Willow. Noone had followed them. They had decided to make a stand and in consequence she and Willow were separated from the group. Locally, that was obvious, but from now on they would be separated in their minds, too. Even if they rejoined the rest, they would never really be a part of that expedition again. She tilted her head a little to the side and then tried to orient herself. They were in a room adjacent to the outer hallway, not far into the manor. To go on, deeper inside, she suppressed another shivver and shoved the lingering fear away. Then she gently touched Willow's arm to draw her attention and nodded in a direction she thought might be the middle of the manor. The others provided a good distraction, the best they would get. And it might be safer to leave a group completely, that would never trust them to have their backs. Maybe. She wasn't sure about the last part. She lifted her hands in a questioning gesture, asked Willow for her opinion, still completely quietly so that they couldn't be overheard.

  43. I don't think we saw Roshar's CR with MeLaan. It looks nothing like Roshar's CR, and some group of Horneaters could just migrate or worldhop. But the reason why Ghostbloods doesn't have Stormlight in TLM might be much simpler - Mraize got outsmarted by Shallan and had to leave.

  45. About the stains on Mraize's pants- At one point in Tress it's mentioned that if you let dead spores just lie there for long enough, they leave behind stains that are hard to clean out. I would imagine that's similar to what happened to Mraize.

  46. Alternatively, Wax has a ton of practice with both shooting and his Allomancy. It's plausible that he could judge when a Push on a bullet would be helpful or when it would ruin the shot, and what timing is practical (like just before hitting the target or an obstacle in the way). But I do think that Frustration's answer is likely to be a factor as well, even the dominant factor. Wax is an amazingly skilled Coinshot.
