  1. Heyyyy~ Happy one week past my Shardiversary to me! Really doesn’t feel like it’s been two years, but it is what it is. Time flies when you’re having fun, and being depressed because of school which I’m out of, thank goodness; Heaven knows I need the break for a good 50 years. .. wait. People tend to be grateful on their Shardiversary. So, I just wanna say that I’m NOT grateful for all the love y’all give me. I’m NOT grateful for the people I’ve met on here. I TOTALLY knew that my writing and drawing skills would grow on here, because I was just FULL of self-confidence when I first joined. I TOTALLY knew that I was going to be loved and respected as an artist on here, ‘cause I’m just tHAt good. I ain’t grateful. Idk what y’all talking about. .. I also guess we can do lil messages Know that I do appreciate each and every single one of you; if I forget to mention you, I’m extremely sorry, but feel free to talk to me over DMs or something. You are all appreciated and loved by me, but I only have so much time to write these things out lolll.

  2. LG91 Day 1: Invasion The Shin warriors trickled into the city of Earthen Truth, looking at the dirt of the ground beneath them. They'd done what they could at the borders, but it had been a long time since Shinovar had been tested in battle, and there were less stonebound fighters than their Shamans had hoped for. Still, they'd done well on the front lines, but there were several reports of individual Tukari getting behind their lines. Which was exactly what the Shamans had feared - an Infiltration team. There was no talk of Radiants along the borders, which was a blessing - the Knights Radiant would be more focused on that stirring at Rall Elorium, and Nin-son-God had kept to his bargain. Still, it was not a happy day in Earthen Truth. A speaker, Carye-daughter-Liretiel, was announcing from the center square. The Shamans had a plan. The Honorblades - all, or at least most, of them - were gathered in the city. They believed this had also drawn the Tukari Invaders, including the ones who had allegedly been hunting for the more exposed Blades. But they were here now. And now no one would leave until they were found. Welcome to LG91! There will be an execution this cycle. Remember there is no vote minimum and ties are random. All GM PMs should be out by now, so let me know if you don't have one. PMs are closed. Any PMs opened by Abrasion will be opened by me, but will remain open the rest of the game. Also minor clarification - I thought I made the timeline for this game post-Recreance. Apparently I did not... but still, there are no Radiants or other secrets in this game. Maybe next time. The turn will end on Tuesday, November 22nd, at 11:00 PM PST. Apologies again for it being kinda late for most in the US, but it's a time I can guarantee I'll be free whether on break or in school or (hopefully) with exams. But do note I'll hopefully be asleep a few hours after rollover goes up. Player List:

  3. I’m back!!! I would like to publicly announce that I am back on the shard! I was only gone for three days, and nobody probably noticed that I was gone, but I am back! I had the most wonderful weekend that I could possibly imagine (hyperbole @Robin Sedai) and I want to tell you guys what I did because I am just so excited about it even though it is over! Sooooo let us begin! Friday: Friday was a student free day for marking our exams; so already a great day, I had finished the last of my assessment tasks for the evening before (I’m in the Southern Hemisphere so our school year technically ended today but that is a confusing thing for another time) so I spent the entire day practicing for Beauty and the Beast, reading Oathbringer and watching Gilmore girls (don’t judge) Saturday: this is where the amazingness started. I spent the ENTIRE DAY from 9am to 9thirtypm at my local theatre!! My drama school was having shows all weekend and even though I wasn’t performing on Sat I was asked to help out! They did the Wizard of Oz jr. first and that was so good! I helped out with costuming, quick changes, set moving and I sang in the wings! And then… it was time for the next show! This one was performed by the ‘Masterclass’ all of the elder performers (16-18yo) it was Little Shop of Horrors and OH MY STORMING GOSH IT WAS RUSTING INCREDIBLE!! The vocals were amazing , the lead actors? Chef’s kiss. And the set? My lord it was BEAUTIFUL. Everything was so cool and our Audrey II was rusting amazing. It was seriously the coolest version of it I have ever seen and it was huge. I helped out backstage and I LOVED IT. Also, the girl who played Audrey was my mentor when I first started doing drama, she taught me so many things and it was so awesome to see her play that role and smash it. Ahhhh it was amazing! Sunday: the big shabang! I got to the theatre at 10:30 am (I had a sleep in from the night before because I didn’t get home till late) On the agenda was Aladdin jr. and then… Beauty and the beast jr.! (Me) for the Aladdin show I helped out backstage, helped with costumes and they got me to sing in the wings again (♪priiince aliiiiii♫) Then it was time for my show. Dun dun dun! I was playing Mrs. Potts and it took me a good twenty minutes to get into my costume. There were so many layers! I had a harness with a teapot skeleton, then the actual dress with a giant spout, two aprons and a shawl-y thing. I also had a wig and a hat. It was really heavy but it was totally worth it. We did a full dress tech run and everyone was freaking out because we kept messing up and props were breaking willy-nilly, but eventually we did it. And it was so GOOD. It was almost like we needed to mess up beforehand so we wouldn’t in the actual shows! so yup, that was my (long) weekend! IDK if anyone cares but that’s it! It made me really happy and theatre is what I love (and reading of course!) note: um in case it was not clear to you , I am a ‘theatre kid’ I very much love the stage, musicals and acting. note 2: I wrote this when I just came back to the Shard but then the editor lost it :,( and then it recovered! . So technically I’ve been back for a few hours now, but let’s just ignore that.

  4. Went to the Barnes & Noble to purchase a copy of Bastille vs. the Evil Librarians, as one does, and wouldn't you know it--the one, the only, the Mr. Sanderson himself was there. So, yeah. Got me a signed book tonight.

  5. Ooooo it's BIRD TIME!!! I pulled a Shallan and went outside to do some sketchies of real life birds. I sat on the back patio, and a couple of female bronzewings were kind enough to chonk on the grass for me, and peck around on the grass (it's spring where I am, but it was frigid yesterday!) We have a pair of Common Bronzewings nesting in a tree in our backyard. Have some facts about them! Common Bronzewings are a native Australian species that are a relative to the pigeon family. Males and females can be told apart easily - males have a bright golden badge on their forehead, with some red and blue colouring along the neck and chest. They're super chubby and chonky - like super chonky. I wasn't exaggerating their roundness in those sketches - that's what they look like. Have a wonderful day, Humans!

  6. I mean, a Pyrrhic victory is when you technically have a win, but the costs are just as big as if you had lost. And in this case, if Scadrial had lost, the place would be gone. Either the entire North would have been destroyed, or a hostile invasion would have subjugated or destroyed the planet. Scadrial won, and even if it was a costly win, it's a lot better than what'd have happened to the world if they had lost. They will now have time to prepare, create new countermeasures, and have won what seems to be at least a decent number of decades of peace. The victory didn't cost them anything that'd make future defeat inevitable, nor did it do just as much damage as a loss would have. Scadrial had a costly win, and Autonomy a small loss, but it was still a proper win, not a Pyrrhic one.

  11. If the dice speak, we would be wise to listen. Deep breaths Alv. Deep breaths. They didn't mean it. Nope. Didn't work. UNLEASH THE IZZY! Jelly Araris? It's not me. It's Izzy that really wants you dead. I am immune to your puny @ summoning spells. I require certain offerings before you are graced with my presence. Namely time. I approve of this message. Weakness discovered. No one give Araris a Blade. I don't think you want a Wild Alvron. A tame one is dangerous enough as it is.

  12. Well, it also gained autonomy a new enemy, one that she armed with the most dangerous weapon, knowledge. Also, Scadrial started off the book with one mistborn, Hoid (if Scadrial could be said to have him). It ends the book with two, with the addition of Wax. That is a net positive...

  14. Might add, from Nepali similar to Hindi, Suna made me think of "Gold" (सुन - Soon) or "Listen" (सुन्नु - Sunnu). Vishwadhar could mean the "World's" (विश्व - Vishva) "Edge" (धार - dhar). I also asked my mother these, and she said this could be something like "throughout the world" or "all around the world". Silajana is the most straightforward one as everyone mentioned literally would translate to "born of stone" or "Stoneborn". Prasanva sounds like the prefix (प्र - Pra) which means "front, before, or forward" and "With/Together" (संग - sanga). I'll take y'all word for Sanvith and Mahik since I can't tease meanings out of those out in Nepali. So I'll posit the following theory for the etymology of Shri Sanvith Prasanva Mahik va Sila. Shri is the title for respect, "Lord" Sanvith is probably his given name meaning "Son of the Mountain". Prasanva is probably his surname meaning "together from the past". Maybe signifying a long familial connection to the Aethers? Mahik va Sila is probably a religious title, "Silajana's earthy one". Probably denoting his status as one of Silajana's Aetherbound. I hope to everyone who doesn't speak a Sanskrit based language, I get across the distinction between words and names. Like in English "Nick" means "The Victory of the People", but while you might be aware of the meaning, you're not actually intending to say like "Hey how are you doing victory of the people" when using a name. Meanwhile things like "Pope" would be a title which denotes something like "The ordained religious leader of the Catholic Church", and everyone is aware and intends for the full definition to be applied. This might seem trivial or obvious in English, but I just want to get the framework across when he calls himself Prasanva, the meaning is kind of secondary to the usage (cause it's a name) while I believe Mahik denotes something important. So all together, the most respectful way to refer to him in English would be as follows: "Lord Sanvith Prasanva the Mahik of Sila(jana), Grand Aetherbound of the Twelve Kingdoms, Raj of the Coriander Court". P.S. If none of that was confusing, I almost arbitrarily chose the given name, surname, and title just based on what I liked best and made sense to me. For an alternative, his name could be "Prasanva Mahik" and his title would translate to "Son of the mountain, Prasanva Mahik, of Silajana" or any combination of title and name with "Prasanva", "Mahik", and "Sanvith". Or all three could be part of his name, and just "va Sila" is an identifier like "Brightlord". Most likely Prasanva is part of his name since both himself and his friends call him that, and I don't think you would go around calling yourself "Pope" for instance.

  15. I'll come back to this post and edit things in as I get time to actually comprehensively lay my thoughts on these. Edit complete. We've known for a while that Brandon tends to look for linguistic inspirations in the real world. The most obvious of these is the names of the Unmade tying to various mesopotamian deities, but Roshar is rife with this. "Narak," the Listener name for the central plateau of the Shattered Plains (which is their home) literally translates to "hell" in Sanskrit/Hindi, which is very apt in a series that deals with themes of damnation and such. It's also kind of thematic, in various ways, one of which is - just as an example - that creatures that look like demons (once the listeners take up the regal stormform) and follow a god of hatred come from Narak (a.k.a hell) in Words of Radiance. Another very easy one is Amaram, where "Amar" in Sanskrit/Hindi literally translates to "undying" (in the "immortal" sense). Kaladin's whole "born unto eternity" thing could also be another one of these influences because "Kal" can mean time/tomorrowness/era depending on how you look at it, in Sanskrit/Hindi. All of this is to say that when we got the very obviously Indian-subcontinent inspired look at Aethers, in the form of Twinsoul... well. There's lots of linguistic inspiration happening too. I'll go find sources later, I gotta get up early tomorrow, but here's some thought vomit regardless. Twinsoul, codename for "Shri Sanvith Prasanva Mahik va Sila," refers to three of the twelve Primal Aethers by name. These are, Silajana (the core aether Prasanva is directly bonded to), Suna, and Vishwadhar. That's... a lot of words. I'm going to be looking at this from a Sanskrit/Hindi perspective, as those are the languages I'm personally most familiar with, though there's a million and one different dialects and languages in the general family of languages in the Indian Subcontinent. Let's start with the easiest, "Vishwadhar." "Vishwa" basically means "the world," as in, the world which we live in. "-dhar" as a suffix translates to "holder/bearer." Thus, "Vishwadhar," as a word, translates to "worldbearer," perhaps "one who bears the world" or "one who bears worlds." An alternative reading here would be to read it as Viswhadhaar, in which case you could potentially get "worldblade," but in such a way that the world is a quality of the blade itself. Another potential bastardization, "Vishwadhaara," gets us something more akin to "worldstream" or "worldchannel," in the sense of rivers and mountain streams. I personally think the first one is the most likely, even if the actual canon reading turns out to be something slightly different. "Silajana" gave me a lot of trouble, but according to @Jofwu over on the discord, Kalyani confirmed this as "origin of the stone." If so, then they break down as "Sila" (stone) and "Jana" (birth? one who births?). I had other ideas for this, but since Kalyani confirmed this, there's really no point in digging deeper. "Suna" can go so many different ways, I don't know where to start. I'll come back to this later when I have more time to think about how to write this down. I have now come back, and... yeah, this one is so vague and weird, I need more time, because it really goes many places. Then there's Twinsoul's name itself. "Shri" is an honorific, generally used when recognizing someone as being respectable in their own right "Sanvith" is weird. Acc. to Jofwu, Kalyani says this means "Son of the Mountain," but I cannot find where this is pulled from. "Prasanva" is weird. As others have pointed out down below, one of the most straightforward ways to approach this is to take the "pra" as a prefix, and then deal with the rest of the word, "sanva" as one thing. This doesn't quite work, because while there's lots of similar words I can use for inspiration, nothing fits things completely. That, unfortunately, is also the problem if you don't go the whole "pra+sanva" route, so... yeah. There's... a possibility, that the break down is somehow "Pra + san/sam + va," with elements coming together such that you get "forward mountain and" but... I dislike that immensely, because we don't have "maahikva" after, we have "maahik va". So... these are closest to what I can find: What I'm pulling from aren't exactly "Prasanva," but instead "Prasham" and "Prasaha," where the words are similar enough that I can kind of see a form of them being Prasanva. "Maahik" is generally referring to earthly qualities. Acc. to Kalyani, this means "earth," too, so I'm happy. "va," is generally used as a conjunctive "and also" sound, so you might say, "something something something v something" which ends up being meant as "something something something and something." Think of it as adding a delimiter between two items of a list, though it's more combining those two items into being taken as one group, almost. "Sila" probably refers to "stone," though "Sila" also tends to be used to refer to (virtuous) quality, with words like "sushil" translating to "having good virtue." "Raj of the Coriander Court" most likely means Twinsoul is the king, or atleast someone in the royal Coriander Court. Putting everything together, there's a possibility that Twinsoul's full name translates to "Lord Mountain-son, Conqueror of Earth and Stone, King of the Coriander Court." I'm technically on vacation right now, and I'm away from my regular workspace from where I could get you direct sources for some of this, but I will eventually edit this post and get it more organized.

  16. So, the other day, I decided to try and draw Leeli based on the art in the book that I see. And it turned out really well. So I went over it with ink and colored it. And made it my profile picture. So: Leeli Igiby* herself! Working on Janner, and will do Tink soon! Janner so far: * Janner's hair nearly killed me. But I survived. Note: This is unusually good for me. So don't expect this level of quality forever. Also don't expect updates often. Also DON'T YOU DARE SPOIL IT I'M ONLY ON BOOK TWO!

  17. I wrote this as a reply in another thread but I'm somewhat confident about this theory. I believe Adawathwyn is a traitor and drained the bands. She was the one who insisted that they use them and pushed hard to be the first one to hold them. In that moment if she used the bands the normal way it's highly likely we'd get some kind of visual reaction from her because of how much power they hold. What if she drained them a different way though? We know she is a ferring, she claims to be "one of the mind" which likely means Zinc. But what if that was a lie and she was a one of the soul, a soulbearer ferring. We know they can store investiture in Nicrosil metalminds and because feruchemists can control the rate of storing and tapping metal minds it makes sense that she could do it so rapidly and without any visible reaction. That combined with Steris' and TenSoon's belief that this was some kind of play means its possible Adawathwyn was a traitor working for the Malwish. What do ya'll think? Broke or woke lol

  21. In the short run of course Scadrial. But the longer I consider this the more pyrrhic that victory looks. Scadrial lost 1/3 of its Mistborn Scadrial had to use up hard to replace munitions Scadrial used up whatever if took Kelsier to make the men of gold and red turn around Harmony and his sword are permanently estranged to an extent Harmony has to sent his Kandra out to missions that do not immediately serve him Harmony and the Ghostbloods are at odds Harmony is doubting himself possibly this led to Scadrial being forced into an aggressive foreign policy that will have made reconcilliation with Roshar impossible and it cost her: the remainder of an organization she had written off an army marches needlessly Investiture she gets back in the medium term I cannot help myself. Team Scadrial are not looking good.

  22. I think both RoW and TLM dealt with this correctly, and in the same way. Outside magic is only explained if the person who knows the magic explains it. In RoW it seems very much like Vasher to not explain himself to Kaladin. Why would he. Messing with Kaladin is one of the few joys in his life. In TLM Kelsier specifically told his people to help Marasi, and, like in any good heist novel or superhero story, she needed to know her team's capabilities, so they told her. It seems to me that he is explaining the magic when it is in character for people to explain it and leaving it unexplained when the characters would leave it unexplained.

In a perfect world, everyone could be a farmer. In a perfect world, everyone could add. But this was not a perfect world, and the world needed those who would subtract so that others would not have to. Jen did not enjoy holding weapons, but they held them regardless. They were needed. They would follow.

  25. I tried, but I just can't kick this habit. I may as well stop trying. Here is Poem #39. Forget No More Stars spill from the very heights as if pulled from their perches on high by some monstrous hand and cover the world in their soft light. The great upper expanse grows darker as all of the radiance exposes the ways that even the most sacred of groves are being pillaged and the deities whose shrines are being defiled simply turn away to shed their tears instead of raising gauntleted hands to stem the corruption that is leeching peace from the realm. Cities are breached and their secrets are exposed to those who draw forth sword and shield in the name of wreaking bloody vengeance. Oceans are scarlet and those wild beasts that escape slaughter feed in a frenzy the stench of offal wafting up as a sign of what this wretched plane has become. Weeping so bitter is louder than even the clashes that so tear apart family and bond rending civilization itself until all that is left are the most frayed of threads drenched in tears and stained by lifeblood expended in vain. What now then can become of this broken place? None arise to act and crumbling walls appear to be all that will even be remembered. From that place where the revelations have come one remains above that which was wrought upon her siblings. From her comes illumination of a different sort ever known before to the mortal souls that freeze in place. It is warm, but not destructive in nature cool waves fly forth and yet it does not still raging hearts. Calming music plays along the flowing waters that she rides down upon a barge of the most wondrous sounds. They weave together and are at the same time more beautiful than every work of art that human or divine hands ever wrought. Jewels are dead stones when brought up in comparison. Sleek and sinuous nothing of its like could even be thought of much less ever truly described without casting the worst of insults upon it. Where it goes rifts close as if an enchantment was rewriting the nature of reality itself. All of the carnage ceases when it faces this power and the corruption burns away with a shriek that shatters mountains. Those who descended rise again anew and more than they had been when they were set adrift. As all heals she returns on high and restores light to a place that forgot what illumination truly means.

  26. I think the problem is that we got our timeline wrong, it’s clear that Scadrial is is heading way faster towards the 1980’s equivalent than we thought, I believe era 3 will be 3-4 decades down the road, probably with Marasi as governor, possibly opening at Wax’s funeral. I would love for the protagonist to be Wayne Ladrian, younger son of Dawnshot himself and a member of an anti-allomencer swat team.

  29. I'd be more worried about the spread of unsealed metal minds. Way easier to convince society is okay than hemalurgy. Any time W&W hammered in how terrible it was for Wayne to store health, all I was thinking was seeing some poor person getting paid to fill an unsealed mind. Gold is just the most obvious metal too, mental/physical speed, strength, breath, determination, and fortune are all things that are ripe for exploitation if you could "convince" someone desperate to fill them for you. We know medallions can be filled by even non-ferrings so anyone poor is a target. It fits with the democratization (or I guess capitalization lol) of magic that's been hinted at as a theme for Era 3. It is interesting that the only medallions we've seen from the South so far (Warmth, Weight, Connection) are some of the least "harmful" to store up. Weight is entirely neutral or even useful to store, and Warmth seems easy as long as the person has access to heat. Connection is a bit iffy, but isn't obviously harmful like storing Health and is really more an unknown than anything. Wonder if they have some sort of taboo against the more exploitive ones?

  30. Easiest answer is that Sanderson explicitly said that Kell is the kind person who runs schemes that attract bad actors, but he's good at maintaining order/civility in ppl under his direct control. So if he was on Roshar he could probably maniuplate Iylatil and Mraize into behaving, but he can't so they're back on their crem dung. Another answer based on older WOBs is that Kell didn't start the Ghostbloods and so the Roshar operatives we see are more associated with whatever the OG organization was about. Would help explain how they're so established in Silverlight and Roshar when Kell can't have been operating offworld that long (I guess up to 300 years, but that would have been very quick to get off the ground even for him). And also why Kell says that the first tenant is Scadrial nationalism which doesn't make sense for a world-hopper organization. It would also thematically match with the way the Kell co-opted and took over the existing Skaa rebellion to fuel his own goals. Have to take with a grain of salt b/c this is all Thaidakar reveals so it might be worded in a way because Sanderson is trying to hide the surprise but he does say that Kell is only a of the Ghostbloods not the leader. Also one of the first connections between him and them is a WOB saying that Kell had to join a Rosharan society he would join the Ghostbloods and "be in charge of them within a year".

  31. Brandon's long-said that it is theoretically possible - though difficult - to split a Shard that's made up of two combined Shards like Harmony....but if you did, you likely wouldn't get the same two Shards you started with. What I'm wondering is if this is where the Harmony/Discord plot is going. Really, those seem like two opposing intents that are a different kind of yin/yang than Ruin and Preservation were, because both Harmony and Discord combine elements of both Ruin and Preservation, just in different ratios/different ways....that nevertheless results in two opposing Intents that Sazed is struggling to hold and reconcile himself. With this leading largely to him being ineffective as Harmony, and in danger of becoming Discord despite his best efforts and intentions....but still only ever one of these expressing itself at a time, with the other's Intent being temporarily repressed, and thus likely to engender a constant, never-ending cycle of back and forth where Sazed flip-flops between one or the other every few centuries. So I'm curious if an upcoming conflict between Kelsier and Sazed might lead to Kelsier either intentionally or accidentally somehow Shattering the Shard Sazed holds by himself....into Harmony and Discord as two separate Shards that can then be held by two people....Harmony by Sazed, but now able to be effective without the constant need to repress Discord or let enough of it leak into his actions that he's hindered from truly furthering harmonious Intent.....and Discord by Kelsier, which he is FAR more suited to than Sazed is. In theory, combining Ruin and Preservation into a single Shard and then splitting that Shard into two Shards that are BOTH a combination of Ruin and Preservation....could feasibly produce Shards that are less likely to ever drive their Vessels to the state of extremes that both Ati and Leras succumbed to in their own ways, because these resulting new Shards would be more nuanced, a blend of two Intents, even as singular Shards. Sazed, although always a good person, was never above being fallible as a mortal or now as a god, and holding a Shard that's truly Harmony but still with a degree of Ruin mixed in it....although not 50/50, maybe like....60 Preservation/40 Ruin...he'd be a lot more able to act in pursuit of his own best Intentions...while still having enough Ruin in him that he's never going to be in danger of seeking full preservation to such a degree that there's a threat of stagnation...as would have been possible when Leras held Preservation, had Ruin not been around to act as a counterweight to his Intent and actions. Meanwhile Kelsier, while a lot more shades of gray and capable of ruthlessness than Sazed, has always had positive qualities as well, and actively seeks to channel his worst qualities in pursuit of being a necessary evil still acting towards noble goals. He genuinely is invested in the protection and survival of his people, the issue has always just been the things he's willing to do in pursuit of that...because Kelsier, unlike Sazed who is inclined to use his godly power to make life better for mortals, at the possible risk of making them TOO comfortable and incapable of furthering themselves without divine aid (which in and of itself is still a kind of stagnation)....well Kelsier does believe that a degree of conflict is a good and necessary thing for the ongoing progress of humanity....just like a less than noble person like himself is necessary to act on behalf of good and noble people who aren't able to do certain things even in the name of their own survival. And if he held a Shard of Discord, that again wasn't purely a blend of Ruin and Preservation in total balance, but instead was still a split of those two Intents, just to a different, slightly imbalanced ratio, like 60 Ruin/40 Preservation....he'd be a lot better suited - and more capable and willing - to actively sow Discord not in the name of Ruining things or lives, but purely to push humanity to achieve things and grow rather than become overly comfortable and complacent...aka stagnant. And unlike when Ati held Ruin, Kelsier would hold a Shard that still had enough Preservation in it, akin to his own innate drive to protect people via his discordant actions....as well as an initial self-awareness and nature that's a better fit for a Shard of Discord than Ati ever was for Ruin....that he would theoretically not be at the same risk of being overtaken by malicious Intent more born of the Shard he holds than of his own choices and actions.

  33. Re-read TLM once more just because. This was playing in my head during Wayne's Big Damn Hero moment, and the Epilogue:

  39. Harmony is currently having trouble acting, because he is limited by the conflicting intentions of Ruin and Preservation. Consider Ruin and Preservation as two parties in a negotiation with each other. Since they are equally strong, they are at an impasse. Imagine a third, much weaker party joins the negotiation. Say, a pinch of Devotion's Investiture. As was mentioned in Mistborn Era 1, in a negotiation involving three parties, the weakest party is actually the most powerful, because each of the stronger parties needs the weakest party on its side to defeat the other strong party. So if Sazed had a splinter of Devotion, then whenever Ruin and Preservation were deadlocked, Devotion's splinter would break the tie. Obviously, Sazed would want to choose Investiture carefully for this purpose, since his Intent would probably become a watered-down version of the third Shard. Devotion would probably be fine. Odium would not. The original Vessels would probably be opposed to such a plan, because it is moving toward a re-unified Adonalsium. They should see, however, that it only slightly enhances Sazed's Investiture power, and might greatly increase his freedom, since the Intent of whatever Investiture he eats a pinch of might be so diluted by the neutral Intent of Harmony that Sazed's will might be able to steer the new Intent quite a lot. As far as I know, the Vessels have no problem with freedom, though they may object on the grounds that it gives Sazed too much power in practice. What do you think?

  40. Thank you! It's actually just all colored pencil! Just pressed hard(for me). Do y'all wanna see the maybe-sorta-kinda finished pencil of Tink/Kalmar? Edit after Tink did a stupid: NO! JANNER! DON'T TURN INTO A KALADIN! ONLY KALADIN CAN BE A KALADIN! Edit after Tink sang a song he shouldn't have: Welp. My sketch is no longer accurate. Oh well.

  41. This should teach you a bit about what Shardholders can and can't do with Shards, not make you upset that it didn't meet your previous expectations.

  42. added some things to the original post, specifically more of a breakdown of "Prasanva," and plugged everything together to form one potential reading of Twinsoul's name. I could be completely off-mark here, or I could be well on my way.

  43. How did I break the rules? It's not too outlandish. It can be summoned by something, or fishing rodded or something, it just can't be physically grabbed by someone else. There are a lot of ways I could list, but I'm not going to give you ideas. Think along the lines of the surge of Abrasion. It's not, because neither of my Radiant orders have access to that surge, but it's similar.

  44. To be fair, in this case it's important because these stamps are new to us as well, and might not get introduced in a book, so I suspect that's why we're getting the explanation now. I don't think we'll be getting the general explanation in the future, but it's important to keep in mind that at this point the books kind of stop pretending they're completely different things, but with small cross-overs, so talking about stuff from other series does become much more important, but at the same time, assumptions will also be that we'll have read those books.

  47. That's actually pretty straightforward. Its really hard to damage a kandra when they can just reform their tissues. Sure, you can damage the bones they're using, but that doesn't actually hurt them, it just reduces them back to kandra-blobs. But if you chemically damage their cells, such as via fire or acid, that actually does substantial damage to them. Back in Era 1, that was how Kandra executed those who broke the First Contract.

  48. This might be me being too much of an amateur physicist - but I think it literally is a nuclear explosion, amplified by the power in investiture. 1: Harmonium acts like a heavy, possibly transuranic, element. Allik warns Wax not to store too much of it in one place, otherwise "odd things might happen". We know that the Axi of harmonium is likely composed of Lerasium and Atium, given that the reaction produced both. It seems likely to me that harmonium is literally a combination of those two elements, with the Intent+Investiture of Harmony providing the binding force sufficient to overcome their natural repulsion (both of Intent and electromagnetic). 2: We know that Bavadinium strongly repels Harmonium "more like it had the same charge". 3: We know that passing an electric current through Harmonium comes close to, but is not sufficient to separate Harmonium into Lerasium and Atium. So I think what happens is when the current is passed through Harmonium and Bavadinium is brought close, that is sufficient to overcome the binding force of Harmonium - Lerasium and Atium subsequently separate and release energy, just like in nuclear fission. The atoms of Lerasium and Atium which split subsequently collide with other Harmonium atoms with enough energy to split them as well, in the classic chain reaction. It's a very odd combination of physics and magic, and I'm sure the mathematics on it would be incredibly fuzzy, but it matches the description of Wax's experiment. With a more powerful current or something like modern compression implosions they should be able to fission Harmonium even without Bavadinium.
