  1. My nine year old brother finished reading the Harry Potter series last night, and in a subsequent discussion I came to a sudden realization (HP 7 and Warbreaker spoilers):

  2. I work in the toys section at Target it’s pretty chill. I pick things up and I put things down. If I finish that early I organize the shelves. One perk is that I get to hang out with the legos all day. They are objectively the greatest toy ever created, and ever since I was a child they’ve pretty much defined about 72% of my existence. But recently I’ve been curious. I used to buy only Star Wars legos as a kid, which I guess worked well enough. I never bothered to worry about the prices because I would always just save up until I could buy the one I wanted. Nowadays it’s not so simple. I’m going to college soon, and money is suddenly something I’m very conscious of: both as I get my paychecks and as I spend it on scud. For the past year or two I’ve never bought any sets other than the 3-in-1 Creator ones. Why? Because, comrade, they are simply more cost-efficient. Observe: Each of these are $50, but you can tell just from these photos that they aren’t created equal. I’ve noticed that Lego Minecraft is usually less expensive than most IPs, so I decided to use that as my control group. Turns out it works great in that position, because that first set up there comes out to almost exactly 10 pieces a dollar, which is such a great ratio that it makes me smile. Next up is Lego Creator. For this one it comes out to just over 15 pieces per dollar - another remarkably brilliant ratio that I love and adore. But what’s even crazier is the fact that it’s almost twice the ratio than the Star Wars set, which comes out to just 8 pieces per dollar. I continued this line of research down the price range: 20 dollar Lego Minecraft. Comes out to almost 12 pieces a dollar, which is close enough at this level. 20 dollar Creator. This one is almost 13 pieces a dollar - about par with the control. 7 pieces a dollar. While the control went up in value for the cheaper set, the Star Wars one went down. So you get my point. But what does that mean? Just stop buying Star Wars sets forever? But what if you’re a collector? What would 8-y/o Fadran say? Don’t worry. There still might be hope. Behold: the hundred dollar section Control is 8 pieces per dollar - that’s worse than Star Wars at 50 What’s this? 9 pieces per dollar? Almost on-par???? This is the paradigm that I’ve been noticing as well: expensive IP sets have better value than the cheaper ones. And I mean, just look at that thing! It’s awesome! Who cares if it’s not quite 10 per - that’s just worth. Some more examples: Even from a young age I think I understood this, because I would always save up for the big sets instead of blowing it on the cheapos. I got the AT-AT for 120, that 80 dollar X-Wing, and also the MASSIVE fire temple set from Ninjago. Basically: if you want your money’s worth on these, go for the expensive sets for IPs. It’s more worth. Right? … …right? this is a 1200-piece, $100 set and it’s incredible TL;DR - go for Creator, kids!

  6. Cycle Three: Silver Linings Vinnie stayed with the crew the following night. He would not have a repeat disaster, not so soon. Silas had been right-- this was the Forests of Hell. Hoping to make it through completely unscathed had been a foolhardy wish, and he should have known better. These people knew what they'd signed up for, and so had he. But he could afford to keep his expectations somewhat optimistic. Accepting defeat only would bring it sooner. At the present moment, they sat around a ring of stones, which was obviously bare. He wasn't sure why they'd bothered to set up the ring, all it did was make Vinnie wish for the warmth of a fire more, but if it amused the crew, so be it. He needed spirits as high as possible the next few days. He wasn't sure who had done it, but it didn't really matter. They spent the night in murmured conversation, but one by one each member of the crew adjourned to their sleeping pads. Vinnie told himself he would keep watch throughout the entire night, if that was what it took to assure safety. He sat back, assuming to be alone, but Silas Keen still sat across the stones. "You can sleep, you know," Keen said. "I could say the same for you. I'm fine." Vinnie let out a breath. "I've done this before." Keen barked a laugh. "You think I haven't?" Vinnie didn't respond, and the silence stretched uncomfortably long. Finally, Keen stood. "I suppose I could use a rest." He bent down to pick up one of the stones. "Wonder why this was set up." He grabbed the stone, then immediately dropped it, recoiling his hand and cursing softly. Vinnie was up as quick as he could manage, and a chill ran through his spine. Silas's hand was bleeding. "SILVER!" he yelled, rousing the rest of the crew. "GET YOUR SILVER!" Shades appeared on the peripherals of the camp, angry red eyes that would haunt any sane man. But Vinnie had been quick enough, and they had enough silver, that miraculously, no one was harmed. After the danger had passed, Vinnie turned to Keen. "What happened?" "Spines on the underside of the stone," Keen said. "Blasted luck." Vinnie furrowed his brow, and kicked over another stone. Gleaming spines, only a centimeter long but obviously intentional, stuck out of the bottom. Another chill ran down his spine. "No," he said. "This was intentional. Someone here has a death wish. For themselves, and all of us." The rest of the crew lingered, watching the discovery. Vinnie raised his voice. "Does anyone know who set up this firepit ring?" For a moment, nobody spoke. But then, Jal nodded towards Jo. A few nods of agreement followed the accusation, and the next day when they continued on their journey, they left Jo behind to go cry to his mama. But that didn't stop Vinnie from wondering if they'd made a big mistake. Shining Silhouette was executed! He was a Crewmember with Fenweed Sap! Kasimir was attacked, but survived! 9. It comes from the shakespearan english that I started, but I don't have the energy for anymore. I had a cool idea for Jeffrey Jeffrey, but I don't have really any energy to RP about it. Yes, currently I don't see them as e/e but that could just be distancing, or it could be two villagers shooting each other. I forgot the JNV vote meme

  10. Temeria smiled when Ember flared more brightly at the mention of his name and she lifted a hand to touch him gently. It felt good that he was here, that she wasn't completely alone. She loved his excitement, the way he focused completely on something, all of his attention in one place. His gaze was towards the guild's building and she wondered what had caught his attention. The door maybe, or a window. Whatever it was, he was for sure trying to find out how it looked on the inside. Someone else walked up to them and she shifted a little, ensured that she could face both of them. It wasn't likely, but in this city you never knew. There were always people around who tended to explode in violence without any real reason. Good thing, that her boarding house didn't count as a tavern. She relaxed a little when the newcomer introduced herself and claimed, to be here to join the guild. She looked her over, searched for weapons and then offered another smile in greeting. "I'm Temeria. I only have a quick question and then I'm om my way." Wait until I'm done, she added silently. She definitely didn't want to wait until the whole, let me join a guild procedure was over. "You don't happen to know the most broken parts of the city?" She repeated her earlier question, not really caring who replied in the end. She only needed a starting point, something to change that made sense. Silently she wished again that she had taken the time to get to know the city better ever since she had arrived here. But she had stayed mostly in her district and only went to some markets outside of it, when the need arouse. To learn how to lead a boarding house successfully had taken more time than expected. A slight frown shifted her expression when she pushed the thought at a promise she had forgotten aside. She was working on it now. That was all that counted for the moment. It wasn't as if Mac would stroll around the corner and lift a scolding finger at her. "I'd like to know so that I can see whether I can do something there." She added an explanation, impatienly shifting her weight again. Maybe that would help to get a better, preferably a quicker response. The whole standing around and doing nothing part was exhausting. Now that she had decided to do something, she wanted to act. And if they didn't know - well she could always follow Ember's idea and look for something bad to break. It might not be the most efficient way, but it would work all the same. @NerdyAarakocra @mathiau

  11. Mac, Ivenspark Cemetary Mac walked along the outside wall of the cemetery, dragging his hands across the weathered and faded runes that kept the hundreds of shades contained inside. This place told the story of the city. It was built after tragedy, locked after tragedy, and when its walls fell it would cause another tragedy. As with all things in this city, however, those who cared couldn't fix it, and those who could didn't care. He sighed as he approached the wrought iron gate, steel-pushing himself up over it. Inside the cemetery lay a tangled forest of massive trees who branches blanketed the sky and who's roots tore up the old cobblestone paths that crisscrossed the park. The main roads were lines with old gas streetlamps, but for the smaller paths Mac had brought a sphere lamp. He made his way along the main road, counting the rusted gas lamps until he turned off onto the remnants of an old footpath, the last remnants of day disappearing behind the canopy. He pushed his way through underbrush, taking care not to disturb the graves lining the path. People who didn't know him thought him hardened to death, which was fair. Obviously, he was no great respecter of life. His existence was built on the souls and corpses of thousands of people after all, but there were some people who's death stuck with him. Maybe their death was a waste, or maybe it was a calculated risk, a necessary evil. Maybe their death was due to his mistake, his greed, or his rage. Regardless, some deaths stayed with him, while others did not. And so he dragged himself here, to a mausoleum deep in the forgotten woods of an ancient cemetery. Stepping over the iron gate long rusted shut, he made his way through ferns and ivy to the door, and opened it carefully. He stepped inside and sat on a folding chair, left in the corner. Preparing himself for his own, personal 'vigil' of sorts. Logically, he knew he shouldn't be here. There were far too many things he had to do, and while vigils and ceremonies were a nice concept, Mac had learned early on that they were an exercise in futility. The dead were gone, their souls irrecoverable in the great beyond. What was anyone remembering anyone going to do? Most of the time all it brought was the painful memory of a loss. At worst, it made you a sniveling reck. At best, Mac thought, remembering them was supposed to make him change for the better. The hope, he supposed, was that if their deaths weren't in vain, if their death made him grow into a better person, then he wouldn't be bothered by it anymore. But Mac knew that it didn't work. The great deceit of emotions, however, was that they are rarely logical. Despite trying to learn and grow, their deaths never left him. Whether it was the child who's soul merged with his own gave him immortality, or the dead and bloodied face of a 20 something year old aide, killed in a fit of rage, the deaths that stayed with him, never left him. They weighed on his soul. And so he dragged himself to the proverbial whipping post year after year, feeling the pain of the few who's names he knew, knowing it was a futile, pointless, waste of time. Yet feeling, on a deeper level, that he had to be here.

  13. Hi!, I've known about this website from some time already, but never had the chance to check it out. I've read all of Brandon's Cosmere books plus Skyward. I have also been keeping track with the chapter releases for The Lost Metal. I'm excited to interact with the community! My favorite character is Wayne, and I love how Brandon is developing him further in The Lost Metal. My favorite piece is The Emperor Soul. I really like the selish magic system, though Brandon did a fantastic job with the rest, as well. I also really enjoyed The Rhythm of War.

  16. The investiture being used here wouldn't be able to be used by another Radiant. My guess is that this is because there is an Identity keyed to the investiture if you use it in a lashing. It's also possible it's just in the nature of the magic system, or that when the investiture is active like it is when you do a lashing, you can't absorb it. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the investiture is keyed to the Windrunner, so another Radiant wouldn't be able to take it.

  21. Marie - the Bindpoint Someone bumped into Marie. (Not for the first time.) She overreacted. (Not for the first time.) Pewter and tin lit up inside her, thoughts a sudden rush as she tapped mental speed. Someone at my front - not an attack, not a pickpocket this time, not a hug - ow. Burning tin always made the points where her spikes jabbed throb. It made the currents of air along her skin all the more noticeable. She had been burning iron just lightly to see, but stopped and switched to steel instead, one hand going to a pocket containing clips she could drop to leave this instant if she needed, or Push out if the threat were to follow. In the same second, she flared bronze, then flinched as a wealth of input pulsed from all around. Right. Lot of Investiture users here and she didn't recognize most of the patterns. Something from the man in front of her, she noted, though she couldn't tell what before extinguishing her bronze again. Seeking wouldn't be helpful until she knew more about other magics. Fine. There were people all around; some were watching them. The man, possibly because of his quality suit. You've made a mess of... He was speaking, but she darted past that for the moment. Others watched her. There, and there, and in the shadows - "Forgive me. Lady Inquisitor?" Her attention zipped back to him instantly. He hadn't touched her past the initial collision. He had addressed her as a lady, and she thought for an uncertain second of her teenage years, a young noblewoman at court trying to remember all the names and defaulting occasionally to titles, but then he had also called her what she was now. Was he empire nobility? Or one of those new Sliverists who paid deference to Ironeyes - she had never met one, but had heard of them. Herself as a target of worship was hard to imagine; not as a symbol of the Steel Ministry, not as a symbol of Ruin, simply revering an Inquisitor for its own sake? Him being from the old faith seemed more likely. He was bowing, or like that, and Marie stood very still. When had she tensed like this? When had she clenched a coin in her fist, hidden by the pocket of her robe? She released her zincmind and the clip both, trying to rub out the stinging imprint it had left with her thumb, and breathed, and listened to his question. "What has brought me here?" she repeated, testing her voice. It was low, scratchy - in part because of what she was, in part because she hadn't spoken for a while. It had probably last been to a guide on the way here, but that wasn't important. "I heard it wouldn't be out of place for an Inquisitor to live here, and it was far enough away from Scadrial." Too late, Marie wondered if she should have planned a different answer. Honesty was what she got for quitting the zinc, she supposed. What would this man make of it? Was he frightened of her? Not all old nobles had been, some imagining themselves on the level of or even more significant than Steel Inquisitors due to their own rank. She'd always thought those ones stupider than skaa. @NerdyAarakocra Deteca - Scholar's Court There was only a handful of hours until the guild meeting and Deteca was worrying about it. Some of the reasons were actually smart. Things might be tense. The city really, really didn't need another war or more chaos right now, and she was pretty sure the other guilds would agree, but she still fretted. What if one of them wanted to use this opportunity to seize more power? And she'd heard the Ghostbloods had a new leader; what if they did something drastic? The rebranding - Mirrorshades, if she remembered correctly - would be something to keep an eye on, see if it took. Deteca would convince who she could to help the city, even if they wouldn't ally with TUBA to do it. "Ally". There wasn't a war right now, the guilds had been peaceful for some time, but she still had moments where she defaulted to that not being the case. Only moments, but Deteca doubted she'd ever fully trust the peace. The Alleyverse had proven time and time again that it didn't last. Not even in some kind of alternate universe. Deteca had only some of a grasp on what had actually occurred; there was what was in the papers, what people relayed on the street, what Covert Ops offered in reports (though those reports tended to be much more convoluted these days. She still needed to look into what all that was about). Her own memories were tangled. Some very clear ones stood out, conflicting: greeting someone in a TUBA reception area, smiling brightly, and striding along an Alley, confident as though she was on a road to home she'd traveled many times. And...some other things. Hopefully, there would be more concrete information at the meeting. The Dark Alley would be there - she didn't know if their leader Voidus intended to show up himself, but someone would. According to the Alleyverse Post, that was the guild that had been behind it all, deceiving even their own members (which shouldn't hurt as much as it apparently did, she wasn't a Denizen) and remaking the world. Whoever was there had better have more knowledge about this to share. She worried for another reason, as well. Storm - Deveraux - was out there somewhere. She hadn't seen him since - well, right before the Forgery. When he'd stabbed her. Long since healed by a Truthwatcher by now, but she still rubbed unconsciously at the spot. What if he came back - A man stumbled out from the crowd, dropping another man beside him. Deteca hardly took a moment to recognize that they were injured before moving forward. "Are you alright?" she called to them. "What happened to you?" It was a good thing she'd been walking to the university early. @Lord Meeker @Voidus

  22. 1) would like to be friends with most -Kaladin, or The Lopen. Former for the deep soul searching conversations, latter for the unending hilarious shenanigans. But also like everyone else I wouldn't mind Adolin as a best friend. My life would be less similar to Kaladin's with him around. 2) feel is most believable in terms of motivation -Erm, they all seem rather realistic in their individual motivations. Among the main reasons why I love all of these characters so much (among the greater cosmere as well) 3) enjoy reading about most -Kaladin honestly. Every single character has their moments, and I love them all, but admittedly when I reread the books the only chapters I will never skip involve Kaladin in some way. I don't think there's ever been a fictional character that I connect with as thoroughly. 4) find most confusing/intriguing -None of them are confusing except maybe Taravangian, but that's only as of right now while we can only guess at his true intentions. Most intriguing to me are all of the Heralds. Not sure I really need to elaborate on that, just that Nale and then Ishar's demonstration of their skills left me wanting a lot more. Can't wait to see the rest of them showing off. 5) find makes you laugh the most -It's The Lopen. Honestly it wasn't until Dawnshard where his type of humor really started to click with me, and I relate to his oaths in a significant way. I often use humor/sarcasm as a defense mechanism. Regardless quite a few of his jokes got some genuine laughter out of me. I will also mention Pattern. Arguably the most hilarious character in the cosmere. 6) would like to punch in the face -Uhhh... nobody really. Not even Moash. He's been through enough and will go through even worse, a punch in the face wouldn't help one way or the other. He prob just needs a hug tbh. 7) personally relate to most -Well I already kinda answered this earlier, it's Kaladin, but I also highly relate to aspects of several other characters. Shallan's identity issues, Jasnah's inability to get close to anyone, Dalinar's struggle to be a better man than his past self... I'll stop there. 8) feel is emotionally most realistic -Literally everyone. Though I haven't mentioned Renarin yet, and I feel like he deserves some attention from me because even though I'm not too familiar with autism he's the type of person I would go to any lengths to protect. 9) shamelessly crush on the hardest -Oddly no one. I could see myself being happy with either a Shallan or Jasnah type, preferably the latter. But I don't believe I would be compatible with either of them. And I wouldn't want them to settle for someone like me considering they have so much world saving to do. 10) is most like someone you know IRL -Again no one, unfortunately. Aside from myself there isn't anyone I know who shares significant similarities.

  23. I know that all of the pieces I've talked about so far have been classical or something, but I do other things, okay? Here is another song I really love, and the name and where it's from might sound odd but hear me out. Intermezzo Without a Leader - Kirby: Planet Robobot. It sounds like emotional torment, or something. Sadness? Loneliness? It's difficult to put my finger on it. It sounds like how I feel sometimes, and please don't put that with the other adjectives I used. I don't need people thinking I'm depressed or something, though it might already be too late for that. Anyway, the way the music swells and fades away is so cool. It has high points of... something. I can't describe it. I'm going to try anyway. Thoughts turn around and around in the mind Voices from the past call out, haunting Frozen in time, but still moving Like a corpse, void of soul Moving outside, dead within And then, when the time comes Sitting alone, tears flow Empty tears I don't think that was very good, but I'm trying to improve. Does anyone have ideas for something I could write about? I would appreciate some ideas. I'm also kind of embarrassed by this entire SU, so, in an attempt to improve my willingness to share my creations and improve my boldness, I am posting it anyway.

  24. The Lost Metal, the fourth and final book of Mistborn Era 2, is finally here. It's been eleven years since the first one of these--the Alloy of law--came out in 2011, so we've been waiting quite a while. There's tons of ground for this book to cover, both in wrapping up Era 2 and setting up Mistborn Era 3, and this is definitely the longest of the Era 2 books by far. So how did it go? I think The Lost Metal was a pretty good conclusion, but this book didn't quite come together as well as Shadows of Self or The Bands of Mourning for me. I'd say this book has a lot of pieces that are extremely awesome, and while the book is good, overall the whole is less than the sum of its parts. I think ultimately the problem is the overall plot for the book. It's not as interesting, conceptually, as what we got in Shadows of Self or Bands of Mourning, and doesn't totally come together. One of the plotlines for half the book feels a bit like it is spinning its wheels until we get to the epic conclusion (which at least is awesome). There's a lot of running around and investigating, and it is not as interesting as you might hope. It doesn't help that that plotline has two new antagonists which, frankly, I just do not like the character concepts for. Those antagonists are a disappointment for a final book when I felt like we could have gotten a lot more cool stuff. Something about that plotline did not work for me. By comparison, the other plotline in the book was so much more interesting to me, so that probably didn't help me thinking that things didn't quite gel together. There's one more plotline that has effectively a dead-end for this book that feels like pure setup for Mistborn Era 3, which I really didn't like. I think you could argue that this book is disappointing because it doesn't deal with a few big aspects from prior Era 2 books, presumably to save them for Era 3. This book does deal with the biggest plot thread of the Era 2 series, which is good, but just brace your expectations. The best part of the plot is the ending, which has fantastic moments and has an excellent Brandon avalanche that is tense and thrilling. Of course, I can't speak much to it in a spoiler-free review. It's really exciting. However, I would not say it makes up for some of the other flaws in the book's plotting earlier in the book. The character work for most characters is really great. One character arc in particular I felt was 10/10 and done fantastically. The other characters were done well, too, though not as good as that killer character arc. And as Brandon has said before, Steris gets to do more in this book, which is lovely, though she still gets quite a bit less than Wax, Wayne, and Marasi. One character in the main cast didn't get that much character conflict to work with, but I didn't mind it too much. Overall, I'm pleased with the character endings for Era 2 here; they were quite satisfying. If you are a cosmere fan, well, there is a ton to love in this book. There were WoBs that implied this book would be quite a doozy in that respect, and that is completely accurate. It's really, really spicy. I'm curious if you're a Mistborn-only reader how you'll feel about the end being more cosmere-heavy. I think it's fine overall, but I could very much understand that with this series starting in the "Brandon said stories will be self-contained" timeframe of 2011, this could be a bit jarring. For me personally, I think it's right on the line of acceptability. It's clear to me that as we proceed from now on in the cosmere--especially after Stormlight 5--we're going to get a lot of crossovers very prominently. For what its worth, I think this book does a good job of explaining the crossovers that appear in the book, because the characters are like "hey what is that?" which clues the audience in. Your mileage may vary though. The Lost Metal is a pretty good ending to Mistborn Era 2, and is a fun read. I do think people will have some specific things to complain about and it won't be universally loved. There are things the book didn't do that are some missed opportunities, and the plot didn't come together completely for me. It suffers a bit because it's setting up the next Mistborn eras. But, it does wrap up the things it needs to do to be a satisfying conclusion. There are extremely cool moments, fantastic character work, and some really killer cosmere stuff that we will be talking about for ages. It's pretty good, but not my favorite.

  25. I could see a world where Space Age Cosmere has a group of people hunting through space for those who destoyed their homeworld. Whether it’s Scadrians or not gets a bit cosmerey, but it could very well happen.

  26. So Soooo Okay. I have a bunk bed and the top bunk is mine but it also happens to be very close to the ceiling fan Last night (well it's 4:30 am, so more like couple hours ago?) I was wearing a sweater but then decided to take it off cause it was too hot Im usually more careful than this but it was pitch black and i was sleepy I was taking the sweater off and i accidently reached my left hand a little too high and the the top joints of my first three fingers were hit by the blade of the fan (which was on top speed btw) . And thankfully my hand was still inside the sweater so it was cushioned a bit but the pain was so awful i had to force myself to not throw up . And the upper portion of my left arm for some reason feels numb?? Like less numb, and more leaden. It feels weighed down when i try to move it. And if i try to move the fingers, the feeling of kinda numbness just increases?? Idk i have an exam in 3 hours. Gonna wait for someone to wake up and ask them to wrap my fingers in gauze Maybe ask for going to a doctor if this doesn't get better

  27. Brandon did say that he planned to include her going with Shallan in RoW, but decided it wouldn' t make sense for Dalinar to send her on a delicate mission like that. So, we could have seen, but didn't because it wouldn't make sense.

  30. Allrianne isn't half-skaa or anything, but Lord Cett does specifically say the Cett family has very few Allomancers due to (farther back in the past) skaa ancestry - Allrianne's the first in centuries iirc. Alendi and others of his time were Mist-snapped. "Allomancy came with the mists"; it wasn't known before Alendi's time - while the potential existed in Scadrian humanity, if there were any active Allomancers before the events of Alendi's time, it was so rare it was unknown.

  34. I doubt it is MIc2 unless the I is greatly modified to be a very small number usually. Like, (1+ I0/k) or (1+(I0*k)) for a simple form, but might include like, more exponents or logarithms. Also, I0 means the pure amount of Investiture in it, before modification into the form it needs to be for MIc2. More likely, it is something more like E = Mc2 + (investiture part), is more likely, I feel. Which separates them, multiplying them up individually and adding up the products. This is of course only using the calculation for a resting object. E2 = (pc)2 + (mc2)2 Is the full one, which would become like, ((pc)2 + (mc2)2 ) + (investiture part), with the investiture part likely also modified to include the effects of momentum and variant mass. Also, how did you get the superscript? doesn't work and can't find any settings on this site for it.

  37. Temeria - The Scholar's Guild Temeria shifted her weight from one foot to the other while she waited for someone to answer the door, silently hoping that this wasn't a huge mistake. The last thing she needed right now was another fight with her sister. But they had parted on good terms, so it - she pushed the thought aside when the door was opened and she was greeted by a man. "Er... Hello-welcome... How can the scholar guild help you?" Temeria barely covered her relief at the sight of him, glad that she didn't have to face her sister just now. Later, later when she had the time to prepare and to try to make things even better between them. That would work so much better. In the end they had never met, or it had gone differently, or they hated each other now. Her memories were fuzzy in places, as if she was able to recall different versions of the same thing. And with Aln, too much had gone wrong between them already. Things needed to go right for once. If only she knew how to deal with year long anger and despite. Temeria pushed it all aside focused on the situation at hand. Aln wasn't here. One thing after the other. "Hello." She replied and smiled at him. "I hoped that you might be able to answer a couple of questions about the city. About things that could be better to be more precise. Broken things." She moved her hand obviously farther away from her weapon, to put him at ease. "That's Ember and I'm Temeria." She introduced the two of them, carefully watching his face to see if he would recognize the name. @mathiau

  39. ~Vivica; Alley K-9-1077~ Countless times Vivica had imagined this, but every one of them paled in comparison to now. The heat of his lips against her own drove into her like a spike through a bindpoint, and she felt every piece of herself rearrange to accommodate this new mark on her soul. The warmth in her cheeks flared white hot, and she voiced a sigh, lips parting slightly as her hand moved from the back of his hand to run her fingers through silver-blonde hair. Nox echoed her sigh with his own, deeper and hungrier, pulling her closer against him. Her blood sang in her veins, pushed through with each thundering beat of her heart. The sound of exuberant yipping faded into the background as the Zeta Class puppies completely broke formation, tumbling over one another and leaping with excitement. She allowed herself to lose time, lose sense, lose track of anything that was not Nox - the circle of his arms, the scent of his skin, the taste of his tongue. He was the world, and if everything else disappeared into darkness, this would be more than enough. After a brief eternity, he parted from her, voice rougher than usual and slightly breathless as he whispered a question into her ear. Vivica felt herself nod, eyes closed and mouth slightly open in silent, wild euphoria. Nox picked her up with one arm, easily holding her against him, and gathered the gifts from the table with the other. Then he bent the Alleys around them, and Vivica heard the rare, beautiful sound of his satisfied laughter in the dark as she painted kisses down the hollow of his throat. ~Lita; Lita's Apartment, the Alleys~ Lita sat herself on the gurney, eyeing Laurelai in the lab coat and trying not to appear too incredulous. "You remember your false medical school training? Well, I don't believe I've ever felt more reassured." Still, she grinned as she lay back, parting the silk of her robe at precisely the front of her left hip and nowhere else. She took a deep breath, then extinguished her tin for the first time in... Lita didn't know. She ignored the vague grey cast to the world as she stopped burning, the way her skin felt slightly numb, her hearing somewhat dampened. These were the signs she had always been warned about, and were something she decidedly did not have time to deal with at the moment. At least the dampened sensation would serve her well in this instance. "I'm dry, not flaring tin, and I've been warned beforehand. This experience is already worlds better than my last. All you need to do is aim." She tried to give Laurelai a reassuring smile, though it was a bit difficult to focus on her face with all the blur to her vision. Damn tin habit. It was just too useful, too helpful to stop. There was never a moment when she didn't need to have an edge, to stay sharp and alert. Especially not now that she was leading the DoCI. When things settled down a bit, maybe she'd go see R&D about some spiritual rehabilitation. Yes, that's precisely what she'd do. When things were easier. A problem for another day. @Voidus

  43. 1) Would like to be friends with most: Probably either Adolin or Syl. I love how both of them are so supportive but also so much fun to be around. 2) Feel is most believable in terms of motivation This one is hard. But if I were to choose it would be Adolin. 3) Enjoy reading about most All of them! Except Moash because I hate him. And also Taravangian because he keeps messing up all the good plans. But I love reading about the rest of them all for different reasons. 4) Find most confusing/intriguing Mraize. He is so hard to figure out. And Taln, what is the deal with him? Also Renarin, his deal with the corrupted spren really intrigues me. 5) Find makes you laugh the most The spren always make me laugh. Pattern, with his "NO MATING!!!" and "Irony good. Like sausage." Syl, who cares so much about Kal and is so good at cheering both him and me up. She has some great lines. They both crack me up. And also Wit/Hoid. 6) Would like to punch in the face MOSAH!! Hands down Moash. I hate him so much for what he did to Kal. It's not just the killing that I hate him for, it's for being someone Kal could trust, then abandoning him. Aaaarggg I really hate him. Oh yeah and Amaram. For the same reasons. 7) Personally relate to most Kaladin and Shallan. I have depression so I relate to Kaladin so much. Also his wanting to protect others and never let anyone else down too. His chapters are so impactful to me, because I can relate to them. Which also makes them hard to read sometimes. And Shallan is so conflicted inside, which I find I relate to a lot also. 8) Feel is emotionally most realistic All of them? That's one thing I love about this series, that Brandon makes us truly understand how they all feel, and we go into so much depth into each character. But in RoW I would probably choose Navani or Dalinar. 9) Shamelessly crush on the hardest Kaladin for sure. I think it's because I relate to him so much. Honestly we would probably be horrible together because we're so similar, but I still crush on him HARD. 10) Is most like someone you know IRL I have a friend who is very similar to Syl. Super bright and happy, and always wants to help other people with their struggles.

  44. I think it’s supposed to be SA only. Fortunately, Thaidakar is a Stormlight character, so I get to pick him anyway. (My current answers to favorite character questions: SA - Thaidakar; Cosmere - Kelsier. Works out very well.)

  45. Would like to be friends with most Bridge Four, as of WoR Feel is most believable in terms of motivation I am not sure what this means. I am quite thoroughly sold on most of the characters and their choices, bad as those choices may sometimes be. Enjoy reading about most Kaladin, I wouldn't mind if the whole series was just Kaladin. Runner ups: Szeth, Wit/Hoid, Vasher Find most confusing/intriguing Confusing and intriguing are two very different words. I guess my answer is Jasnah. Her attitude and behavior in RoW hint at trying to compensate for past weakness, but I need some more from her to be sold. Find makes you laugh the most Wit/Hoid: He is comedic brilliance. Would like to punch in the face Punch the way that Kelsier punches Leras (in SH): Jasnah, to knock her off her high horse. Moash, to help get his head unstuck to the interior of his rear end. Venli, for being such an insufferable, selfish coward for most of RoW. Punch the way that Kelsier punches Ati: Taravangian, I have Delores Umbridge levels of hate for him. I would have also said Mr and Mrs Sadeus, but they are out of the running on account of deadness. Personally relate to most I have never in all of literature or real-life related to anyone more than I have Kaladin Stormblessed. I don't have depression, but I: Did have my life and whole world view shattered by betrayal. Absolutely and 1000% do set impossibly high goals/standards for myself and then tear myself to pieces for not meeting them. Am a person who is not allowed to give up: even if everyone else falls, I cannot ever quit. Do care about everything, all the time, putting all my heart and mind and strength into every "mission". Do have really overwhelming mood swings and have in the past been taken to dark places where I felt like my very existence was a burden to humanity (though I got past that particular point in my life a couple years ago). And so on... Feel is emotionally most realistic One of the things I find most compelling about Brandon's work is that everyone is pretty emotionally realisitc. It would be too hard for me to choose one. However, I can say that the one I have the hardest time understanding is Shallan in RoW and Adolin's superhuman patience with her. Not that I didn't cry with her when her story peaked in Lasting Integrity, but for most of the book, her behavior and psyche was pretty far from my wheelhouse. Nevertheless, I did appreciate that her story was probably very important for some people and respected the inclusion. Shamelessly crush on the hardest I feel like I am supposed to say Kaladin because I do love him and we are both heterosexuals of the opposite gender. However, I decided when I changed my name to Stormblessed it was not because I want to be Mrs. Main Character. Just because this main character is a boy doesn't mean I, a female reader, need to imagine a romantic relationship with him to imagine a one-ness between us. However, if I am not crushing on Kaladin, then I am not crushing on any Stormlight characters. (All that said, if Kaladin were a real human, yes please; box him up and ship him over stat.) Is most like someone you know IRL I can't seem to un-imagine Dalinar in the body of my church overseer, who is a retired detective and former Navy MA (military police). He's great in front of a crowd but super awkward/unsure of how to be a regular non-military person in casual situations. Runnerup: I have had many Renarin-like friends in my life. This is the sweetest thing. You must know many wonderful people.

  46. Kelsier tried to fight Hoid only after Hoid was condescending and deliberately insulting. It's been a while since I re-read Mistborn, but I recall Kelsier's prejudices abating considerably during his months with Vin... and I don't see him as being any more hateful than Kaladin (with his "storming lighteyes") or more violent than Dalinar. I'm aware of the Thaidakar connection, and while I agree it doesn't look good, we don't really know what his goals are at this point. Nobody is the villain of their own story, right? In any case, they can BOTH deserve a punch. YES. Kelsier vs Hoid, The Rematch. I'm so in. And if you are dealing with all that stuff... well, dang. I'm in your corner. Keep your chin up, you're worth it.

  47. Adolin and Maya during the trip through Shadesmar. From my Reddit post: Brandon: As a mother of a child with severe cognitive delays, I want to tell you thank you. Thank you for the scenes of Adolin and Maya. Thank you for showing his belief in her and her understanding. Because the doctors told me my big girl would never be capable of anything. Would never know or understand the world. Just like all the Spren told Adolin. But she smiles when she sees me and her big brother. And she has a rivalry with her little sister. And today she lifted her hand onto her crackers because she wanted one. And, God willing, someday she’ll speak up for herself, like Maya got to do. Until then, and even after, we’ll be like Adolin, giving her our strength so she can find her own. Everyone here talks about how well you portray mental illness. But no one talks about how well you portray what it’s like to have a child with cognitive disabilities; the hopes and the struggles, and the wonder in the smallest acts. So thank you for showing it here in Rhythm of War
