I'll create them fresh around the time of post 1985-1990, then go over them and re-record if needed, then post them. there'll be at least 2 melodies. hope y'all enjoy them once the time comes.

  2. So i'm re-reading Stormlight an stumbled across this beautiful scene: This joke flew right over my head the first time. Last week I was reading that scene during my break at work and that one got me off guard. I literally start laughing and then had to explain to my coworkers what was so funny in my book. I just didn't remember that Pattern is the centre of such good jokes. On the other hand, it has been a while since i last read these books. Just wanted to share this memorable moment with you. That said, i hope you all have a nice day

  3. MY GUYS! MY GUYS! I have been writing, a lot. And I've been working on a necromancer fight scene, and it's really really really good. I would share it with you, but... no spoilers. Anyhow, at a youth activity I got the inheritance cycle recommended to me and I started it last night. And, since I'm usually in editor mode instead of reader mode lately, I've been saying stuff like, "nice description, Paolini." or "probably wouldn't have put that many 'then's there, but ok."

  4. Emily stopped outside C180. Sanax’s room. She glanced down the hallway. She could just see the room where Vivica had – well, Vivica’s old room. She looked away, knocking on Sanax’s door. Focus on the ones you can help, she reminded herself. “Come in – door’s unlocked,” Sanax called. She opened the door to find Sanax sitting on the floor, his silver hair done in a ponytail. His blanket was missing, and paper was scattered around him. He was hunched over some figures and equations, scribbling notes in a tiny script furiously. Logicspren kept appearing along the corners of eyesight, the tiny stormclouds disappearing whenever she looked directly at them. Looking at the papers, Emily saw diagrams, pictures, math, all notated. There were notes in Thaylen, Alethi women’s script, English, Arelish. She even saw a few pages that looked like Nalthian writing, but in greyscale. He glanced up toward her, his black irises staring for a long moment at her shoes, before turning back to his notes. Emily bent down and picked up a page. There was a poem she’d heard written across the top, “The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.” Scribbled underneath were notes: “Suppose the hand to linger: would the inscription run wider or deeper? Is the Writer single-handed? Suppose another hand. And which finger? Natural motion of primates suggests the index finger. Is there then a finger Nameless, which rings of nothing bears? Does not time wear flaws in all that is writ? Does not nothing remain ‘round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away’? Who is right then, the eastern mathematician or the western humanist?” A series of equations followed the notes, with the symbols fading into mere scribbles near the end. Sanax snatched the paper from her hand, setting it back into place carefully, placing a hand-drawn paper with various angles drawn on it down and orienting the paper precisely. Then his head dropped back to the paper in front of him. “Don’t touch – you’ll ruin the organization.” Emily carefully stepped between papers until she stood next to him. “Sanax, what is this?” she asked. It was worrying when the ward patients started acting like they were all-knowing; it often preceded some break with reality that removed any progress they’d made. A few patients she’d treated had regressed enough to forget she’d even met them, and she’d had to start from scratch with them. Sanax muttered under his breath. “Sanax, what is this?” Emily asked again. “It’s broken. All of it.” He started scribbling again. “What’s broken, Sanax?” He looked up, finally making eye contact. “Everything is.” He held his sheet of scribbled notes. “Reality is axiomatic. Defined by the divine Commands, populated with the various permutations of Investiture. But this reality, it’s all wrong. It’s the Realmatic axiom of foundation – it’s broken. The physics don’t work. Thermodynamics don’t work. In this reality, there’s not a void set.” He saw Emily’s lack of comprehension and started elaborating. “You add zero to anything, it’s unchanged. It doesn’t affect whatever it touches. You can’t get a net positive out of nothing. In statistics, there’s a null hypothesis, the supposition that nothing unaccounted for occurred. In set theory, everything is constructed from the empty set. There’s a vacuum state for every quantum field, the state of the field without excitation, without particles. Empty space. Investiture is the same. All investiture can be quantized, just as elementary particles can. All investiture can be described as a combination of various variables – there’s alignment to a Shard, or intent. The ground state of the world should include very little unbound Investiture. A vacuum, with minor quantum fluctuations. To borrow from gravitational models, my soul is a singularity in that field, absorbing investiture, but wrapped in aluminum as I am, the radius of curvature in the field is quite small. I should have absorbed almost zero investiture passively.” Emily stared again. “And that’s important because…?” “I require investiture to live, to maintain the Connections binding my soul to my body. I absorbed the investiture of a flamespren just before the earthquake. However, it had been over a week since I’d absorbed any significant measure of Investiture, and I haven’t absorbed any significant source since then. I should be dead, or at the least, functioning at a far lower level than I once was. But I’m not. And that’s only one example. The rate of dimming in the gemstones here. Rates of physical illness in the city. Assuming the basic laws of physics I know, that means the vacuum state of reality isn’t at zero energy. Take everything away, and there’s still something. Something from nothing. Energy from nothing. Entropy, shattered. There is no null set.” He started scribbling again. “I must have missed something. This is fundamental. Something is wrong in the math.” He trailed off, muttering. “Some kind of Investiture cosmological constant? A spiritual dark energy equivalent? No, no, it’s all broken. It’s all BROKEN!” He threw his hand across the papers on the ground, sending them whirling to the side. Emily stepped back from him, moving towards the door. The whites of his eyes went black, and a dark mist seeped from his fingers onto the ground. Paper and tile started disappearing, consumed as if by an invisible fire. He screamed. “The lights are coming for me. The strings, the strings. The puppetmaster’s strings!” Sanax grabbed a fistful of paper and tore it to pieces, throwing the remains like confetti around him. He started beating his fists against the floor, more in despair than in anger. He started sobbing, though he didn’t have any tears. “The questions just don’t have answers anymore! How is anyone supposed to do science in these conditions?” Then, in a moment, Sanax straightened, cocking his head as if listening to something. “That tone…” He smiled. “There it is. Something snapped. A thread of light snapped, and the vibration is echoing across them all. The empty set is empty once again.” He hummed a pure tone that resonated inside Emily’s chest, a tone of perfect quiet and raging chaos all at once. A massive headache formed, as if the humming were hundreds of times louder, and Emily passed out.

  5. Me: Flame....how can I make Flame interesting and unique...? Me to me: you redraw your Spook fanart ...but let's be honest, did anyone expect anything other than Spook, Lestibournes, Survivor of the Flames, and love of my life????? Cuz if so, you clearly don't know me well enough. *Sigh...* Look at that man

  7. Aln paused, framing her thoughts, as Pel spun slowly beside her. "You are correct. The world that I remember was, in. many ways, a cruel one. The ever-present threat of the Dark Alley led to a city often plagued by fear and violence." "But," she continued, "these things still exist today. They are simply easier to ignore. Over the past several days, I have twice nearly been killed by denizens of the alleys. Had they succeeded, I have no doubt that I would simply have been written out of the WorldForgery, and you would have continued your life unaware that there ever was such a person as Alanis Sheneth. Is this safety, or merely the illusion of bliss that is afforded by ignorance? I understand that it is often easier to turn a blind eye to the world's horrors, but given a choice between the easy lie and the difficult truth, I will always choose the truth."

  8. Day Six: Bouquet Back again with Fischer! I’m only doing each character twice at most, but I think it’s funny that both of Fischer’s drawings ended up being back to back. I apologize, but I don’t have any progress photos for this one. I drew and colored it during a boring lecture for Oral Communications and I couldn’t exactly have my phone out during that time. I haven’t posted very much context for any of my art this year…. If anyone desires it, speak now.

  9. Do we have mechanical engineers among us? I'd use an airtight chamber sealed at one end with a metal foil. Then I'd attach one tip of a spanreed with a rod to the center of the foil. Then the spanreed is rested on a well lubricated pivot allowing free swinging in the plane defined by the rod and the spanreed. Here we go. What do you think? As far as I can see Roshar at the time of Rhythm of War has all the necessary technology.

  10. Steve all the way! Day six: i'm using both the official and cosmere prompt today, Bouquet and Miscreant. It's Wayne (i've been meaning to draw him, and miscreant could be a way to describe him lol) with flowers! Here he is: It didn't turn out exactly Wayne-ish, but i still like it. Here's the process (all the cool kids are doing it lol):

  11. Yup, that should do it, Cool idea! A Spanreed can essentially become an infinite string in the old two-cup child's "radio", all you need is a functional drum and resonator chamber/cone at each end. Depending on how sensitive the spanreeds can be to vibration-scale motion, you may or may not need to tweak the the mechanical bits you describe to act as an amplifier, but it sounds like it would do the trick if I'm picturing it right. Metal parts might cause some unintended fabrial interference, so organic materials might be better. Now here's where it get's fun: you should be able to then make a purely mechanical "switchboard" that would let you physically couple spanreeds together, and thus bridge one (or more) spanreeds lines to a shared voice chat. If they're lucky and/or clever with some dampers and whatnot it might work with an open line for everyone and a common sound chamber in the middle (probably with some echo problems at least), otherwise they might need a more complex system for each participant to switch from Receive Mode to Transmit mode like with your average handheld radio.

  13. Ok, so, I already finished WoK, but my friend @Shallan Stormblessed told me that doing reaction posts are kind of a thing, so.... *shruggy emoji* At first, when my friend @Shallan Stormblessed kept telling me about it, I was kinda just like, oh, sounds cool, but not really my vibe. I'm more into like, more mystery, fairytales, rom coms, that sort of thing. (If anyone ever needs any recs EVER I will gladly, gladly give some. It's like, what I live for.) Not really hard-core fantasy like what WoK sounded like. It's like, the whole shabang. Strange names, crazy magic powers, swords, fake curse words. Not at ALL like my usual type. So I was a little hesitant. But, my friend kept bombarding me with all these awesome quotes. (She also might have sent a few Kaladin fanart pics.....) One time, we were emailing back and forth for a while with a whole bunch of quotes and I got like, super hyped. I believe it started with her talking about the prologues and how long they were..... "So the prelude's about a guy who's been tortured for millennia deciding to stop being tortured... no matter the price. The prologue's about the Assassin in White. The first sentence of the prologue is "Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king." " Cue us talking more about Kaladin and how hot he is and what his personality is like... "Well, after the prologue, you get a view of him from someone else's perspective, then you get a later PoV of his own. In that one, he's being extremely mysterious, and kinda brooding. I responded with this: "ooooooooooohhhhhhh it has switching povs?????????? aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! I think I'm in lovveeee!!!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!! ooooh brooding toooooo. love thatttt. *smirkey emojis*" Ultimately, this was the quote that did me in. "Kaladin. Don't let this destroy you." "It can't. Amaram already took care of that." I found myself agreeing to read the online ebook sample. To be precise, I think I said, "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESSSSSSSSSSS. BEAUTIFUL GOLLY I HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK WHY DIDN'T I LISTEN TO YOU BEFORE???? YOU WHO IS SO WISE IN THE WAY OF BOOKS. I BOW BEFORE YOU, YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT." (Here's the link to the thread that my friend started when I finally agreed ) So. I started the sample. And immediately started struggling. You know how it starts. A whole bunch of weird names and strange references and no explanations whatsoever. I don't think that I actually finished the prelude. I stopped, then started it again a few days later when my friend started asking about it and I felt guilty. So, finished the prelude, then got like, halfway through Szeth assassinating the king dude. (Can't remember his name. Know it started with a G tho.) And then I think that I later finished the prologue and got halfway through the first chapter. And didn't look at it again for the whole summer. Cue school starting again. I saw my friend, and again felt guilty for not finishing the sample even though I promised to. So. More bugging, and numerous quotes later... I still had no intention of finishing the sample anytime soon. Friday, September 9th, 2022. One of the best days of my life. I had just finished another book. I had absolutely nothing to read. So. Spur of the moment, I decided, you know what? Imma read that one book that I've been putting off for months. Opened the sample. Finished the first chapter. And just kept going. By the end of Chapter 2, I was hooked. Kaladin was epic and mysterious, and I felt super bad for/was very intrigued by Szeth. Also: RIP Cenn. You didn't deserve that. (Oh my goodness tho!!! Bro I totally knew that Kaladin had powers, right from that very first thing, the part with spinning the spear, I think? Fantastic, totally knew it) Didn't really care bout those dudes at the very beginning tho, way too confusing... (Didn't really care a whole bunch about Shallan either, I just liked Kaladin so much more) And this was all before it even got interesting. By Saturday, I'd finished the sample, and downloaded WoK. One of the best decisions of my life. I got to school on Monday euphoric. Pretty sure that I kinda freaked out on my friend, but I was extremely excited. The beginning HONOR CHASM Interlude Adolin Side Carry Hands-on philosophy Kabsal pt 1 Weird squiggle monsters Poison Randoms Flashbacks Another random quote thing that I don't know where to put but it's awesome so I have to include it Wit Dalinar Sanderlanche. Oh dear. Shallan Revelations One last Random quote that my friend sent me (this time after I was done with the book) ok! So that's it!! I don't know if that was interesting at all to you, or more annoying because I'm really just babbling but honestly this was so much fun!!! I probably have so many mistakes it's not even funny Also, looking back, I'm realizing how many exclamation points and like, weird things random words I use while typing, and how... calm my friend is. very impressive. This was soo chaotic!!! I hope that this wasn't too insane for you guys!!! *Actually just started Oathbringer

  14. It's pretty straight forward, I think that Mercy's vessel is Senna. The way Leras invokes the name is what makes me suspect this. " Oh, Senna ... I'm losing this place. Losing them all ... " -Preservation It's like he is calling out for mercy, or perhaps, Mercy..

  16. Hey there, this is literally my first post ever here so please feel free to remove or point out if this would be better posted somewhere else. I just went on Rysn's Coppermind page for the first time in a while and was a little surprised to see her described as "suffering from paraplegia". I am certainly no authority on this matter (I have an unrelated disability but it does not impact my mobility), but this does not seem like a very positive description of her. Would it be possible to change it to something like "uses a mobility device/wheelchair/other cosmere word for how she gets around"?

  18. Thanks for flagging this! This subforum does work for reporting things about the Coppermind; we also have a Coppermind Editors Discord server and the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord--those locations are probably more consistently monitored, but posts here will be seen too. That aside, you're absolutely right that's not the kind of language we'd want to use here; I've rewritten that sentence based on Rysn's own description in Chapter 1 of Dawnshard. Also, general note for anyone reading this, it's totally understandable if people are hesitant about making changes to the Coppermind and want to ask about things first, but it is open for anyone to edit--if you think you can make something better, go ahead and do it!

  19. That’s your choice if you want! Community in-jokes are always lots of fun and I have plenty of my own, though I generally don’t include them in canon RP. But again, this is your business. I would only caution against accidentally writing yourself into a corner by making your character too lighthearted and then having a harder time transitioning them into a more serious arc if you want to later. It’s definitely possible, of course, and I did something similar with one of my own characters. But this is a good place to explore more serious tone and intense topics so I always encourage people to leave room for that amidst the levity (as well as encouraging super serious times to do the inverse and leave room for fun!).

  22. Xanas gently filed the Blade on the table in front of him. The aluminum file, while generally far too soft for ordinary filing, was the only simple method for obtaining samples from physically manifested spren. This Blade, however, was far from simple. It had simply appeared outside his office one evening, for one thing, without provenance or hint of sender. Xanas had heard that a Stranger had malfunctioned in another department, giving a possible explanation for its arrival, but the object itself had far more compelling questions. Firstly, it exactly resembled Tsarik’s typical Blade form. Xanas rarely used his spren as a weapon, and few of those who had ever seen the spren as a Blade were still living. Additionally, the Blade had cracks running through it, flaws and fractures. Xanas had never seen a Blade damaged like this. Inside the cracks, a pulsing white light and inky black darkness interacted, coming into existence and then annihilating nearly instantly, folded tightly like Damascus steel. There wasn’t any Investiture field until you got close enough to the Blade to differentiate the two substances, which implied there was some kind of anti-Investiture involved in it. However, the Investiture didn’t match any known types. There also wasn’t any energy being created by the annihilation. Xanas gently brushed the shavings of the Blade into a small ceramic dish, then mixed in a few milliliters of solvent. He carefully sucked the solution into a pipette, then added it to a similar solution containing a mix of liquid anti-Stormlight and anti-Lifelight. The suspended particles from the Blade dissolved, producing a few air bubbles and a very slight change in temperature. Xanas made a note, stirred the remaining solution, and then titrated it with liquid Stormlight and Lifelight until he got an entirely neutral solution. “Slightly more Stormlight than Lifelight required for complete neutralization – about 10 mils. Factoring in the thermal energy output, the mix is almost exactly an inkspren’s composition.” Tsarik listened carefully, frowning. “How is this?” he asked. “Unaccounted inkspren in the Alleys are not, and the flaws must be from the Alleys.” Xanas shrugged. “We’ll have to find a way to separate the two substances in the flaws. Until then, we’ll just have another mystery piling up on our desk.” Tsarik nodded. “I want to see what is under an axon microscope. Perhaps then we may see the structure of the Blade.”

  23. It was quiet within the Void. Peaceful almost. Neither the Stranger nor Aylitha making any suspicious moves to intervene or turn the chaos of the city to their advantage. Neither appeared in fact to be anything but even the most rudimentary of oppositions to Sudiovs own efforts. It was the closest to a ceasefire that the three of them had reached since the Stranger begun his experiment with the world. It was deeply suspicious. Sudiov knew not how either of the others could hide their activities from him, but rather than pick apart that mystery or try to discover what they were up to he decided to assume the worst of them both. Likely the Stranger would have no qualms about exterminating Sudiov after pulling what power he could. And who knew what Aylitha had decided to do but it was unlikely to be in his best interests. This meant that Sudiov would need to pursue his own interests as well, less hidden than the others. If they wished to take issue with how he spent his time he would welcome the chance to pull them from their own works. For now however, he would spread his awareness through the city. He needed to know what was happening, to observe as many as possible to try to see the flow of possibility. As he went he repaired the cracks in reality with a touch of power, but they were growing both in number and in size. Far too many spots in the city beginning to crack and come apart. A pair of women who he wished had not reunited with each other strode through the city and the world shuddered and split apart in their passing. Another group discussed in the quiet of an office and reality rent asunder at their words. There was only one place in the city that Sudiov knew he could find quiet. One of the key focal points of the Forgery and effectively a moving linchpin for the entire thing. The man who had once been a god, and his most hated enemy. Voidus would be an oasis of calm in the city. A piercing pain ripped the shining god apart before letting him reform a moment later. A lance of agony pierced through him at the proximity as something important shattered to pieces. In an instant he pulled himself back, looked down at the city from above in abject fear. Had it failed? Had the cracks overwhelmed the Forgery already? It was ahead of all of his possible projections but surely this could only be an entire section of the city pulling free from the altered history. But the city was unchanged. The cracks spread with renewed vigour and more and more were appearing but they were still a long way from consuming the work that had been begun. So what else could this be? Sudiov checked and rechecked all of the loose threads, all the gaps, all the individuals he had marked as cause for concern, but other than a slight increase in the deterioration of their Forgeries nothing had changed. It was not until he had given up and returned to his earlier task of observation that Sudiov realised what had happened. When he saw what had only hours ago been a tired but mild mannered Professor was now leaning over a bloody body with a Hemalurgic spike in hand. A man who should have no knowledge of Hemalurgy had just precisely pierced a bindpoint in some unfortunate barista's heart with a pin of brass and was now looking at it with academic curiosity and unbridled glee. Voidus' memories had begun to return, and his powers would follow soon after. Things were coming to a head far faster than Sudiov had anticipated, and there was now no more time for subtle manoeuvring or clever plays. The time had come when he would simply need to choose a side.

  24. There are a couple of problems with this model, first off being that of taking passengers. I'm more inclined to agree that Oathgates are Roshar's FTL. However the quantum nature of spren is definitely mentioned as having possible fabrial ramifications, so there might be something here.

  26. Bell watched the radiant mist breifly rase off the paper slowly shifting the black grains in his vial pendent to white. He began to reflexively store and tap his breath, calming himself. "Maybe folklore was a bit impersonal. I don't know why but something about letting this run terrifies me. These 'storeis' are what my parents used to scare me to sleep at night, scared themselves to put me in self defence classes." "I am not going to pretend that I'm arrogant enough to challenge you on this. If the guild leader says she needs this to be the Headline article, I will make it happen. Its just, and I'm sorry if I'm overstepping but I won't be able to sleep if I don't ask. If its true that you that you remember all this," Bell said, holding up the pitch. "can you honestly tell me the past you remember is better than the present we live in now?" @Rushu42

  27. Aln met his eyes. "I don't just believe it. I remember it." She pointed at the pictures decorating the papers - great birds of flame circling above a crumbling skyscraper, strangely twisted beasts running through the streets, a figure seen at a great distance hanging in the sky, hand outstretched over the city - and they fuzzed into stormlight for a moment. "These are no 'doctored images'. These are lightwoven recreations of my own memories, memories that every resident of the Alleycity should share. Our collective history was rewritten by beings that treat our lives as their playthings. Somehow I managed to slip through the cracks of their WorldForgery, but the majority of the Alleycity is still under their control. I believe that the 'folklore' you study is the last remnant of our true history bleeding through into the stories we tell." "I hope that you will be willing to believe me. I understand that this is quite a bold claim to swallow, but I have sworn myself to seek truth - I may be mistaken, but I am not deliberately lying to you. This is perhaps the greatest deception in the history of the world, but this newspaper and these images may have the power to take it down. I only apologize for the risk that this forces you to take."

  29. It's been some time since our patrons voted to see Kelsier's crew get updated portraits, but between scheduling nonsense and some crewmembers being a little tricky, it took us a bit longer than anticipated to get all of these done. But the good news is, now that they are done, we can dump a whole lot of art on you, and with very little downtime! So let's start things off with the core crew, and more specifically - Breeze! We picked Marie, better known as mushimallo (Instagram, Tumblr) for this scoundrel, and she did a great job. The bar behind him turned out extra cool, with a small Easter egg hiding (?) in plain sight... can you spot it?

For day 2, I combined both the Cosmere and the official prompts: Weapon and Scurry For Weapon, there's a sword, and for Scurry, there's a lot of spiders. If you don't like spiders...probably don't look at this.

  32. And finally, last but not least, we top thing things off with honorary crewmember Fuzz himself! This last commission is extra dear to our hearts because it comes from our very own FelCandy! She has long been involved with our art scene in ways both small (custom emoji, art ideas & direction) and big (almost singlehandedly making the Cosmere Inktober a thing; that's still going on, by the way, check out the #CosmereInktober2022 hashtag on your favorite social media website), so we've been wanting to give her one of these official commissions for a while now, and this was finally a good fit! And with this we conclude our series of commissions of Kelsier's crew. Our apologies to all the Yeden fans out there, we just couldn't get to him. As for Demoux... we'll have to find a way to do something for him.

  33. And finally, to round off Kelsier's crew, we give you one spooky boi - it is spooky month, after all, we would be remiss not to include Spook himself! We say this a lot 'round these parts, and especially so with these crewmember commissions, but this piece's artist - Theodore Oliver, a.k.a. lazifyre - is yet another artist we've been wanting to work with for a long time. They have a lot of good art we could show off here (like this Siri & Susebron), but none are more iconic than this Inktober piece of Harmony looking after the cast of both Mistborn Eras, except they are all children, and he is a single father of some truly chaotic kids.

  34. I'm putting this under Cosmere discussion, even though it only really pertains to stuff in the Stormlight Archive. First of all, thanks to @Ranryu for reminding me about the weird things spren do, which led to this theory. Brandon has said that all the planets in the Cosmere could one day develop faster than light (FTL) travel, though Scadrial is expected to achieve it first of all. This is really interesting to me. We can see how Scadrial, most likely with some applications of speed bubbles, access to the spiritual realm, and the handy technology of Ettmetal, could achieve this pretty soon. But what always interested me was the other planets. How could worlds like Roshar or Nalthis achieve FTL? Their magic systems don't really have anything that could be used in that way, and it seems incredibly far off. (Sel technically already has it (Aon Tia), they just need to work out some kinks and figure out how to use it offworld. Can't be widely applied at this point.) Now focusing on Roshar. I think, with many of the technological developments that are coming around as we read, it's safe to assume that Rosharan FTL will be fabrial based. And what do you need to power fabrials? Spren. In an interlude in Words of Radiance (I think it's WoR, anyway) we see a pair of ardents conduct some experiments on some flamespren. They find that once you define a specific value for a measurement of the spren, the spren has to stay that value in that specific measurement. This coincides exactly with our current understanding of quantum mechanics: particles exist in a fluid state, in multiple locations or states of being at once, until they're observed. After observation, they're stuck in the position or state they were observed in. I think it's safe to assume that other spren share this attribute, but right now, only flamespren are confirmed to have these strange quantum properties. And, unless I'm remembering wrong, flamespren are the most commonly used spren when creating conjoining fabrials. Conjoined fabrials are very handy, as we see with the Fourth Bridge in Rhythm of War. Using some clever tricks involving Aluminum, a latticework of conjoined fabrials are effectively able to create an airship. This kind of fabrial is probably the future of Rosharan transportation. Now here comes the long shot. My theory is that if a fabrial were to be created that somehow exploited the quantum properties of spren, they would be able to use that "multiple locations at once" function to effectively transport a vehicle using the fabrial to another location faster than the speed of light. I have no idea how you'd do that. You'd probably have to use some kind of trick to amplify very small scale effects to an incredibly large scale, and Aluminum to isolate variables and make sure your spaceship actually appears where you want it to be. It's a long way off, if it's even possible. But Brandon is hinting at something with those flamespren, and it seems likely that it's something along these lines. What do you think? Am I grasping at straws, or am I onto something? Tell me below!

  35. Ooh, gotcha, sorry. WOB #2 above says for both bullets and Light they're calling it a thermodynamic process at the boundary that bleeds energy out to explain why there's no problematic radiation or object acceleration when things leave the boundary (and I think is why there's a shimmer but no actual Doppler shift). WOB #4 elaborates that the problems were interconnected, were consider from both the inside-out and outside-in perspective, and ultimately handwaved to say the boundary bleeds out any problematic kinetic energy but chaotically enough that Wayne cant just sniper from inside his bubble. EDIT: Also, I think they are mostly discarding the real wave behavior and just calling it the Light-as-a-Particle side to say it behaves the same for visible light and thrown/flying objects.

  37. Lita waited until Laurelai had followed her out into the Alley beyond her office before locking the door, slipping the key into a pocket and double-checking the small bag she had grabbed from beside her desk. She drew one finger along the cool metal of her bayonet - it felt right to carry it, despite the fact that she barely knew what she'd do with it if the occasion arose. Lita gave a small shrug and let the thought slip from her mind, turning back to Laurelai with a light smile. "I'm glad you appreciate my unorthodox management style, Laurelai. I of course had my suspicions... but it is always good to have confirmation of a thing, is it not? And besides, you took the time to dress so nicely this morning. It would be a shame to keep you all cooped up in an office with only an audience of one." She turned and began walking without waiting for a reply, taking another long breath of smoke and letting it curl languidly out of her mouth as she prepared to Alleytravel. "Follow closely now, please. You've shown remarkable talent in picking up Alleytravel but it is still very easy to get lost. And I'd hate for you to trail all that lovely Elendel silk in caustic molasses or sentient mud, or whatever else those clever, mad fellows in R&D are making these days." @Voidus

  40. Acacia Smedry was getting tired of her job. It's not that she was bored, not really - there was always plenty of weird news to go around. It's just that that news had been getting a lot less fun. It used to be that the most unsettling reports they got were of flying cats or strange patches of greenery in alleys. But now there was talk of an explosion at the hospital, of strange creatures glimpsed in alleys and sewers, of people vanishing, of an attack at the Scholar's Guild. Heck, on that point, Acacia's boss had apparently vanished. Who knew if she'd even have a job much long- Acacia's feet fell off her desk. "Al- Ms. Sheneth?" "Aln is fine," said the guild leader, pushing open the door to Acacia's office and promptly tripping over a poorly placed stool. She seemed physically unharmed, despite the torn and dirtied state of her clothing, and she clutched a sheaf of papers in her hands. "What happened to you? We're printing a story on the Scholar's Guild attack right now; we thought you were-" "Cancel it," said Aln. "I have a very important edition for you to run. How quickly can you have this to the press?" Acacia took the papers and started flipping through them. "The Dark Alley? 'Voidus'? No offense Aln, but did you get hit in the head during that attack?" "It's not a conspiracy theory," she said. "I have proof - or at least very compelling evidence - that our reality has been altered by a SoulForgery on a grand scale, enacted by a group of incredibly powerful and secretive demigods. I have a way to counteract this Forgery, but it requires the use of this newspaper. Will you help?" "I- what?" "Unfortunately," said Aln. "I may have to ask you to just trust me on this. I don't know how much time we have before the beings who attacked the Guild find me again, and it's very important that these images get distributed." Acacia blinked for a moment, then shrugged. "It's still not weirder than some of what my cousins ask me to do. I'll get my team on it, and we should be able to have this out on the streets in the next day or two." She stuck her head out of the door and hollered, "Hey Bell, get in here! We need to get these papers formatted for print ASAP!" @Arlin

  42. Does Harmony have one perpendicularity or two? I think one has to be in the South since they have ettmetal. But one in the Basin also fits since we see Hoid there, and Khriss in BoM.

  45. Early in Alloy of Law it was established that Wax's wife, uncle and sister were all dead. None of them were dead and all of them showed up as antagonist in one of the first three books. Gotta have one more to complete the Set Wax had parents (obviously) and a Grandmother, Vwafendal, who we met in BoM prologue. I'll go with Vwafendal because we met her and she lives in the Terris village that, much like the Set, has been obsessing over magical bloodlines in hopes of producing magic-users. The Village is focused on Feruchemists than the Set, but it's still an interesting parallel. Plus the Village has nothing but disdain for the outsiders in surrounding Luthadel. I could see someone like her working within the Set to take down Luthadel's government.

  46. Thanks! Chapter 13: Honestly, I felt bad for the chasmfiend, it was minding its own business and the humans just had to come and kill it... Great battle descriptions, and the shardblades are creepy but cool. I feel like Adolin should try to become the great man that he wants his father to be instead of obsessing over whether or not his father is doing a good job of it. Chapter 14 Yay, back to Kaladin! Very realistic how his attempts to get the men to train failed, and cool that he found something to do anyway. We'll see if it was productive or not. Syl changing is interesting, perhaps some kind of magical bond is forming between her and Kaladin? Can't wait for the next Kaladin chapter. I wonder when we'll finally find out about Kaladin's magic. I assume that the same thing that protects him against arrows gave him the extra stamina. Chapter 15 I think we all approve of Wit picking on Sadeas. We finally find out who came up with that horrid bridge idea. I tend to side with Adolin; Sadeas seems like a shady fellow; I wouldn't trust him. My guess is that Elhokar's worries aren't just paranoia, and someone actually cut his saddle. It's cool that they talked about Gavilar's message that Szeth wrote for him. I'm very curious about that. Chapter 16, back to Kaladin's childhood. I'm not sure if Laral was being a jerk or trying to help Kal discover the career he really wants. Very interesting to find out that if a darkeyes kills a shardbearer and takes his Blade he becomes a lighteyes. My theory is that Kaldin will achieve this at the end of the book.

  47. Thank you! Chapter 10 Flashback to Kaladin's childhood. Nice to finally find out who Tien was! It feels almost like the start of another plotline, and I'm curious to see how Kaladin ends up becoming a soldier despite his father trying to make him a surgeon. My theory is that Kaladin's surgery knowledge will come in handy at some point Hm, my rep says I'm an Obligator now; wonder what that is...

  49. Eve stood up. Sitting still just wasn't possible anymore. She supposed it was easier for Alask and Lena. They connected to things differently. They helped in their own way. Did what they could. They at least had a plan for afterwards. She was back to square one. Trying to be preventative through the people hadn't worked. The danger hadn't come in a way they could stop through mindset. It was the issue of mob mentality. If one person panicked, almost everyone else would. Meaning they had to start farther out. In a place she really didn't want to go. But those ideas would have to wait for later. "Do you plan to also try to extend the waterlines to the places that were never even connected since the last war?" she asked, fixing her eyes on Alask. Alask was an interesting person. He seemed to care for the Forge. The people...she still wasn't certain. His willingness to oppose the guilds without respect for the members' lives did bother her. And the way he'd phrased the project... Simple, easy, gives us good standing with the locals. A good standing shouldn't be the reason to do something. It should come as a reward earned with time. That was the true goal of her question. Extending pipelines or not could determine what really came first to him. The Forge and an easier way to a good reputation or a longer, harder path of true care for and interaction with the people. @I think I am here.
