  1. It only took me a year, but I finally sewed my Edgedancer patch onto my military-esque jacket. I think it turned out pretty good. A year of procrastination for thirty minutes of work, that's a new record for me.

  5. I’m new here! Read all of the cosmere, anxiously awaiting new content. I have no friends who care, so here I am! All of my social media was made before I was Brandon fan, so when I had an idea for a cosmere themed username, I had to come make an account before I missed the chance to use it.

  6. My friend is reading the first book of Mistborn. I met him at a college visit last month, we both wanna be writers/english teachers. He happened to be in need of a book to read, so I recommended Mistborn 'cause it's my favorite and now he's hooked. I currently have three people reading it; I pass out Mistborn like LDS Missionaries hand out the Book of Mormon.

  7. Just because Helsina is married to surgeon doen't mean that she has some connection to Vedel, there is a lot of surgeons and doctors all around Roshar, many that Kaladin met, non of them have nothing in common with Vedel except for profession. Helsina herself is just an assistant and seams to not have enough knowledge to perform tasks of an surgeon alone. The Heralds don't have to do anything special or influential, Jezrien is best examle as he is rotting away in alcohol. Only Nale, Kalak and Ishar seams to be doing something with plan in mind. And none of the Heralds except Nale ever bonded spren and become Radiant. They are done with being Heralds, they abandoned humanity and this war is not their war anymore. Helsina has one of her parent as a lighteye (WoB you provided). That explains everything, why her parents don't like Lirin, as she abandon her position in favour of some darkeye, how well educated and religious she is, why she "fallen in social standing since her childhood", why even she named Kaladin with such lighteye fiting name, and insisted on him marrying Laral so at least his children would have chance of becoming lighteyes. Maybe she is related to someone like Amaram or Sadeas which would not be positively received by Kaladin, but I doubt that there is something more to it. Brandon also might just try to cover her true identity as Liss for time being, like he did with Taln "a man who claims to be a Herald" as he'd RAFO anything related to her (there isn't many WoBs on her). Or maybe Vedel is hidden somewhere among Kharbrant's hospitals where she drained blood from her patients - was it mentioned somewhere about some important doctor or "leader" of that operation?

  9. Came up with this all by myself. Hoid: So, I was on the planet where Elantris is...you know, with the Seons? Khriss: Yeah, it's called Sel. Hoid: And I saw a little colorful ocean creature swimming around with fins. Khriss:....You mean a fish? Hoid: Yeah, and it had some really cool rocks. And I asked it for one. And you know what? Khriss: ....What? Hoid: It didn't give me any of them! Khriss:.....Okay. Stop bothering me. Hoid: I guess it was just a little selfish. Khriss:........

  10. SPOILERS AND ADDED INFORMATION: I had posted other bits of this else where in 2020 before the "Taln never broke" WOB, but consolidated all the ideas here in this post This theory and post came out before Rhythm of War, but updates have been made to include information from ROW SA5 Prologue: This is not discussed to avoid spoilers, but SA5 Prologue has some interesting information --- Weird Questions: 1) TALN BREAKING SEEMS ODD What broke Taln? He is crazy and insensate for 4000 years and then one day he says "No thank you". What could have broke Taln? And, in terms of timelines, Taln returned before the Everstorm crossed into the physical realm, so it can't be that the Everstorm freed Taln. Yes the Everstorm was in the Cognitive, but all the doom and gloom seemed to be about the Everstorm being pulled in the Physical Realm by Eshoni and her team. Since Taln returns at the end of The Way of Kings, then Taln must return in a way that is not related to Eshoni. And as I mentioned before, I don't think it makes sense that Odium suddenly found a way to break Taln after 4000 years of trying. Edit: we later got a WOB that Taln did not break 2) DAVAR FAMILY CONNECTIONS Why was the Davar family so connected to secret societies despite being a Vaden house of little note? They have connections to the Ghostbloods and the Ghostbloods have handed them a confirmed soulcaster AND possibly a Seon box. Why? And it seems Skybreakers may have been visiting as well for "reasons". As well, the Skybreakers are breaking paterns when it comes to the Davars. As far as we know, Shallan's older brother is the only Skybreaker to be using a dead blade. Is this special treatment for a member of the Davar family? And finally, Mraize seems to know the Davar family well enough to recognize the name immediately. The Davars would need to be pretty active for that name recognition to be so apparent. 3) CHILD SHALLAN AND HER IMPORTANCE Why did the cryptic go to Shallan as a child? Lift was chosen due to her strange connection to Cultivation, but why Shallan? And why twice? And what were Shallan's parents fighting about? Shallan remembers her parents having huge fights over Shallan's future starting from a very young age. What was that about? Connected to that, why is an dark influence attacking the Davar family? Why is Heleran given a shardblade and brought into the skybreakers? No other Skybreaker acolyte was given a dead-blade and sent to war (that we know of), so why is Helaran so non-standard? Shallan's parents also fight A LOT about Shallan's future. This seems to be a hint that Chanarach had a major plan for Shallan. 4) MAMA DAVAR IN THE KNOW Why was Shallan's mother so quick to try and kill "one of them". How does she know "them" so clearly? Why would she have such a quick and radical reaction? 5) MORE SECRETS What is Shallan's last secret. There is still something horrible in Shallan's past, and this has something to do with a Seon box and whatever Radiant was created to protect Shallan from. What is worse than killing testament? We also have strange internal thoughts from Shallan from WOR in Chapter 10: "The world ended; and Shallan was to blame". This thought has never been explained. What did Shallan do to end the world? "The world ended, and Shallan was to blame.- Words of Radiance, Chapter 10. Mentioned by @honorblades Another strange but overlooked instance occurs in TWoK when Shallan almost summons her Shardblade: If this is indeed Patters/Testement, then why would that Spren ask "What are you?" Testament should full-well know "what" Shallan is in terms of her being a human or a semi-radiant or anything like that. If this voice is Testament, then asking "What are you?" is very odd in my opinion. Shallan answers "I am terrified", but to me that always seemed ... not what the voice was asking Shallan. I always felt there was more to this that simply speaking truths. 6) THE FAMILY'S SAFE AND THE GLOWING LIGHTS ARE IMPORTANT (main data point for me creating this theory) People are very quick to discount Shallan's recollection of Lin Davar placing a glowing soul into a safe. I have always been very confused as to why Shallan is taken as "lying" to herself in this scene. Shallan has no reason to lie about the item being her mother's soul instead of a Shardblade. Lin Davar acted extremely quickly in that situation and made sure to place the item in that safe before dealing with any other issues. That to me is extremely telling. Why would Lin think the Shadblade wouldn't disappear eventually whenever Shallan dismissed it? Why would Lin think the Shardblade would stay in a safe if he managed to place it there quickly? Why would Lin so quickly run to place the item in the safe in the first place? Why is there an unused safe in that room? And then why do Shallan and Lin seem to continually see light coming from that safe for years and years? None of that vibes with "it is just a blade and Shallan is lying to herself" in any way. I just don't get it. Shallan having a Shardblade is not in anyway covered up by this lie, nor is the lie that Shallan killed her spren hidden by this lie either? There is no mental cover-up being done by Shallan making up a lie here. It seems everyone else dismisses Shallan, including Pattern, in favour of "Lynn put a sword in there". 7) EDIT FOR ROW: Then in ROW we get the timeline, and this does not hold up to scrutiny either. Shallan says her father put the item into the safe. WoR Shallan thinks that was a soul, but Pattern convinces her she is misremembering and that the item was a dead spren-blade. But that can't be a dead spren blade because Shallan has not unbonded Testament yet. Shallan does not think that a spren is trapped in that safe and we know this because Shallan then leaves to go speak with her spren in the garden AFTER the item is placed in the safe. Shallan acts immediately as a child in a way that doesn't even consider that her "blade" is in that safe. It just doesn't make sense to think a blade was placed into that safe based on the reactions of the two witnesses involved (which we learn Pattern is not one of) We take it from Pattern that Shallan is wrong here in her memory. However, In ROW we learn that Pattern is NOT an eyewitness to what went down in that room. Pattern sure has a lot of opinions about what Shallan saw, but Pattern was not actually there in the room and cannot actually know what Shallan saw go into the safe. Pattern assumed Shallan is lying to herself as Pattern sees many other lies around that event. But Pattern has no knowledge about who Mother-Davar was, what the safe was for, or why Skybreaker/Ghostbloods may have been in the home. Pattern is not a credible source of information on the events of that day. Shallan is the only living witness, and the actions of her father are consistent with the understanding Shallan had as a child. Shallan too noticed her father staring at the direction of the safe and the light. Only later in life is Shallan told again and again that her memory of those events are wrong by people who were not there. Both Lin and Shallan believe something is in the safe, and a sword does not match the other data points we have. There is "light" in that safe, and it is leaking out over time. And where di the blood come from? A Shardblade should not have done that. The blood has to be some other injury? The box is something. The light was something. Pattern is making assumptions and is wrong about this history with the safe. And why does Shallan see a glowing light coming from the box? Is it a soul like she believes? We learn in RoW that no herald soul can be trapped completely, and that the light of a herald will slowly leak out (is that what Shallan was seeing her whole childhood come out of the safe?). Is it her mother's soul escaping slowly to Braize? Or maybe could it be a perfect gem with Mishram inside? Who knows? But it is something. We have seen other glowing lights (Dawnshard and Dalinar hearing TwoK), so is she just mad, or did she really see something? Whatever it is, it does not make sense that Shallan thinks Testament is trapped in the safe if Shallan went and yelled at Testament after her mother was killed. Something was put into that safe, and to me the most likely answer is "her mother's soul". And firhermore, there is no reason to believe that Lin Davar would think a safe would ever prevent a Shardblade from reappearing in Shallan's hands. 8) HOID and MIDDLEFEST Hoid is downright shocked to see child-Shallan at the Middlefest celebration. Hoid sees something, but that something is unclear. When we originally read WOR, we assume HOpid is shocked to see a Radiant Child or perhaps a bonded spren. However, Shallan does not have a regular active sprenbond at the time of Middlefest, so Hoid did not see Testament or an active radiant bond There are a few things Hoid may have seen: a. Hoid saw Odium's touch on her family b. a dead-blade living-radiant connection line was still active c. the Cryptic team that watched Shallan. d. Shallan is so obviously a part of Chanarach that Hoid was gobsmacked by the resemblance. e. Shallan is noticeably different than other Rosharans due to her strange parentage. But whatever Hoid saw, it was not an active Spren Bond since we know Testament is a deadeye at that point in the story. ---- It All Put Together - A Timeline 1) JAH KAVED Chararach settled in the Davar estate in rural Jah Kaved. Chanarach is involved in several of the secret societies of Roshar just like most of the other heralds we have seen. Chanarach learns of the theory that a return of surgebinders will bring about a desolation. Chararach is completely terrified of returning to Braize and supports the culling of nascent surgebinding. Chanarach is involved in research and is a part of the search to create a method that prevents a herald from returning to Braize upon death. Kalak is also involved. 2) COMMUNICATION NETWORKS Chanarach commands a fair bit of influence and even has a Seon to communicate off world. It is unclear who knows who Chanarach is, but as she did settle in a rural area it is likely Chana's identity is not common knowledge even within secret societies (similar to Restares and Amaram). Chana exerts some form of influence and stays in-the-know with investiture theory and is able to contact others on Roshar or off-world. 3) CREATING THE SAFE Chana tries to devise a way to never return to Braize. She creates a special kind of safe that her soul could be placed in to. She thinks it will entirely prevent a return or will greatly delay her return to Braize. Chana has no way to test this as there are no herald-souls or returned-souls to experiment with. Possibly, the safe is akin to the Seon box in design or the safe may even actually be the Seon Box Shallan remembers playing with as a child? At some point, Chana tells Lin Davar what to do in case she is ever killed (place her soul into the box). In ROW we learn Kelek has some knowledge on this herald soul-leakage issue, so perhaps he was also involved in the Soul Box experiments in some way. 4) SHALLAN IS BORN Chanarach eventually has a daughter and names that daughter after her friend Shalash (Shallan says she was named after Shalash). Shallan may not be a "typical" offspring. She seems to be different from her brothers in some meaningful way. Perhaps Shallanis a cutting of Chararach or maybe Shallan conceived through some form or parthenogenetic process. Perhaps Shallan was created using breaths, as Tyn notes that Shallan seems to see colours better than most other people. EDIT: In a later WOB we learned that that non-returned Cognitive Shadows have had children Edit: In a later WOB we learned that Heralds can have children but it is complicated and effortful to do. Chana has special plans for Shallan. We know from WoR that Shallan's parents fought A LOT about Shallan's future. This implies to me that Shallan is somehow more intentionally convieved than her male siblings, and that Chana had something planned for Shallan that Lynn Davar had moral misgivings about. We are not sure what this is, but I think a lot of us will assume it has something to do with the Oathapact and/or returning to Braize. 5) SHALLAN IS DETECTED BY SPREN The Cryptics find out that one of the heralds has children or they discover a weird child who stands-out and is similar to the child of a Returned. The Cryptics send a delegation to investigate (WOB confirms heralds can have children though maybe it is difficult). At the same time, an unmade is drawn to the family. Testament begins to bond Shallan similar to what happened with Lift. Shallan eventually discovers what her mother is by playing with a Seon box at the Davar estate. The unmade's influence increases in an attempt to get the Herald to go insane and potentially get herself killed by Lin Devar or Shallan. 6) SHALLAN IS DETECTED BY SKYBREAKERS Shallan is discovered to be a surge binder by her mother. Her mother, fearing a return to Braize, refers to Shallan as "one of them". Note that Chanarach does not seem surprised that surgebinders are real. Chanarach has an absolute PTSD breakdown and attacks her daughter. Lin, who likely knew, steps in and Shallan is able to kill her mother in self defence. Lin Devar takes something and locks it away in the safe. We are told this is the Shardblade and Shallan's mother's soul. Shallan goes to the garden to scream at Testament and break her bond AFTER Testament is supposedly locked away in the safe. This timeline does not make sense even if we believe Testament could escape the safe. Why does Shallan believe her spren was trapped but also then in the garden? And how is Testament-blade = her mother's soul? There isn't a connection there logically. 7) SHALLAN KILLS A HERALD AND THEN TALKS TO TESTAMENT IN THE GARDEN After Shallan kills her mother, Shallan goes to Testament and breaks her bond. It is possible Testament told her more here as well. Shallan then begins to repress everything since Shallan has, in her mind, done the most evil act in history. "The world ended, and Shallan was to blame.- Words of Radiance, Chapter 10. Mentioned by @honorblades 8) CORRUPTION SETS IN Lin Devar begins to be corrupted even more. Lin also has mental guilt and wrestles with killing his herald-wife to save his daughter. He beings to protect Shallan at all costs for reasons that may be more than just guilt. Then Davar family hell ensues. The ghostbloods continue to cultivate the family. The Ghostbloods may not believe a herald could be killed by Lin or may not know she was a Herald. The Cryptics stay with Shallan as they don't blame her for what happened. They are still curious about what Shallan is and are researching what happens to a bonded-deadeye to its original radiant. The dark influence in the house may be more than an unmade as well. One of Chana's divine attributes is "obedient". I think this is significant. Lin is driven to rage every time one of his children will not obey him, and the word obey is emphasized many times. It may be possible the Lin's rage was a dark consequence of something Chana was doing, the safe's magical effects, or something else. It is also possible that Lin thought his children would inherit the divine attribute, and the fact they dont obey him drives him to rage. 9) BRAIZE AND SOUL LEAKAGE Chanarach returns to Braize. It may have taken some time for her to get to Braize. It seems the soul is leaking out of the safe over time (ROW: as we see with Jezrian in the gem). Or maybe it takes 5 years to find Chana on Braize since arrival was unexpected and because in earlier returns the heralds were able to "hide" for some time. Either way, the other heralds do not know that that has happened as they cannot detect the pain-bond while on Roshar. Edit: Ishar created the oathpact so he may be able to sense changes in it. 10) HOID SEES SHALLAN Shallan, with no bond, goes to Middlefest. Wit's magic or memory allow him to detect that there is something very strange about Shallan. Wit somehow knows what Shallan fights "is not truly natural" and encourages her to make a path for the light. It is unclear what Wit saw, but he knew more than the fact she was a surgebinder (even though she's actually a deadeye-binder at the time). 11) CHANA IS CAPTURED ON BRAIZE Chanarach is eventually found on Braize. For some reason, Chana either breaks to the pain or gives in to some deal Odium offers. It may have taken a while or been immediate. What is strange is that Chana has not been seen returning to Roshar, either Chana took some deal meaning she did not have to return or perhaps she intentionally landed somewhere remote. 12) TALN RETURNS WITHOUT BREAKING THE OATH Taln returns to Roshar completely insane and without breaking. What happens to Chanarach is unknown. All assume Taln broke. 13) SHALLAN BEGINS TO REMEMBER THAT HER MOTHER WAS A HERALD Radiant is created from memories of Shallan's mother. Or potentially, Radiant is somehow part of Chanarach. Radiant dresses in the same blue and red warrior outfit as the Herald Chanarach in artworks. Radiant is Shallan's repressed memories of who her mother was. It is also possible that Radiant is in someway Shallan's mother (connection mumbo jumbo and cognitive shadow stuff along with cultivation weirdness possibilities) Here is a description of Radiant: “She [Radiant] had chosen to wear her vakama; the traditional Vaden’s warrior clothing. It was similar to the Alethi takama but the skirt was pleeted instead of straight. She wore a loose matching coat with a tight vest and shirt beneath. The bright clothing features vibrant blues embroidered over reds with gold woven between and it had trim on the skirt” Here is Chanarach: 14) TESTEMENT MEMORIES Shallan is forced to confront what happened with Testament, and Radiant begins to see that she must help Shallan deal with her final truth. [Option 1] Shallan knows she killed a herald and that she sent her mother to damnation - possibly ending the world and starting the final desolation. [Option 2] Shallan does not know her mother was a herald, but will put that together in regards to the "hole" in her memory"

  11. Hello, hello, and welcome to this a bit of a... retrospective kind of post. A few months ago we passed an important milestone - one year of monthly art commissions - and we wanted to take a moment and talk about all this, but also showcase everything we've commissioned (in the first year; we've got a few more since then). So take a seat, make yourselves comfortable, maybe pour a drink, and enjoy a brief lookback at some pretty things we manifested into the world by channeling the support of our patrons (of which if you are one, thank you!). Be wary of spoilers! Also, note that many of the links here lead to either our Patreon page (where you might need to be a patron to see them), or the Coppermind. Just a heads up. If you prefer to read this with alt text, this post is mirrored on our Patreon, and it includes image descriptions. February 2021 (poll post | art post) We first hit our art goal back in January of 2021, which means that our very first art poll dropped in February that year. Hot off the Rhythm of War release just a few months earlier, Lasting Integrity crushed the other contenders with a whopping 41% of all votes. We decided to work with Connor Chamberlain, whose work graces many a wiki page, and he did an amazing job capturing the mindbending structure of the honorspren city. March 2021 (poll post | art post) Rhythm of War stayed strong in the month of March, with the nearly fatal encounter between Kaladin and Moash during the Hearthstone extraction winning with a full third of all votes. Artist rspixart had been doing the rounds recently, with some excellent Rlain and Renarin pieces, and we decided to hire them for this one. The depiction deviates from the canon a little bit, but Kaladin should really know better than to pick fights in dark basements that lack proper dramatic lighting. April 2021 (poll post | art post) Surprisingly, it was an Elantris piece that won the month of April - the climactic scene of the book where Raoden, soon after fixing the city of Elantris and all the Elantrians, saves his friends from the Dakhor monks. Now, if you are familiar with the Cosmere art scene, you'll likely be familiar with Shuravf, an artist as prolific as she is talented. So we had been itching to get a piece by her, but all of our winners so far had been from Rhythm of War, and she hadn't read the book... but Elantris, Elantris was fair game! May 2021 (poll post | art post) Okay, there's a bit of a story here. The runner-up from the past two months, the Nine, finally won a round, and we approached Katie Payne to take a stab at it. And stab she did. Our plan was to really cut corners with the character design and encase the Fused almost entirely in their stone pillars - because an illustration with nine unique characters is quite pricey even if we are not working with an artist of Katie's caliber. Instead of doing that, however, she wanted to give them all unique designs, which made this commission an order of magnitude more complex (and cool). As the weeks and months slipped by (because we don't really give deadlines for these), it became clear that we are not commissioning this (because we could never afford it), we are just providing a little bit of art direction for a piece that had become Katie's personal project for just about a year. If you have an Instagram account you can see her progress in this set of stories (including a very important poll about whether to give one of the Nine a goatee). So, sorry this one took a bit longer, but also not sorry, because it's been 300% worth it June 2021 (poll post | art post 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6) Going into June, we already knew that May's piece was going to take a little while, so we wanted to do something simpler, faster. Instead of one piece, we decided to do a series of smaller commissions, focus on some iconic objects from within the Cosmere, and give ourselves an excuse to work with some artists who don't often have time for our standard, more complex commissions. The list ended up including Nozomi Matsuoka, paintweaver, Shuravf (again; we really like her work, okay?), Botanica Xu, Connor Chamberlain (again), and Eli Gardor. July 2021 (poll post | art post) It was around July that we realized we liked the idea of giving each month some theme, even if it's a loose one. It's not necessarily something we've formalized as a rule, but it helps us come up with ideas. So for this month, we wanted to do an environment piece - and New Seran was the winner. Artist Lyraina had done some absolutely unbelievable Mistborn pieces (just look at them!), and we knew we wanted this kind of talent. If our schedules align, New Seran is no the last you'll see from her! August 2021 (poll post | art post) We were extremely happy with Eli Gardor's work on Vindication's design from the set of June commissions, so we knew we had to bring her back for something more visually interesting... and the ending of Shadows of Self, with Steris consoling Wax after Lessie's (second) death, was just what we needed. Fun fact, this was one of our closest polls, Wax and Steris winning over Teft and Phendorana with just a single vote. September 2021 (poll post | art post 1 - 2) We didn't have a strong theme for September, nothing like the quality bonding moments of August, but most of our options could get shoehorned into a kind of "these characters are meeting for the first time, or maybe see/reveal their true selves for the first time" theme, so that's kind of what we went with. Nikli, after coming up second in our very first poll, finally won, and we brought Shuravf back because she had some interesting ideas. But surprise! We had some leftover money, so we had her do a Phendorana portrait as well. Everyone's a winner! October 2021 (poll post | art post) October is traditionally the spooky month of the year, what with Halloween and all that, so we thought it'd be fun to do some spooky options. Ishar's little tent of horrors won pretty easily, and fortunately the month lined up nicely with Nozomi Matsouka's commissions opening up. She is usually only available for work a few times each year, so we jumped on the opportunity, and she absolutely killed this piece. She pulled it straight from our minds, from our cognitive realm, if you will, and manifested it into the physical. November 2021 (poll post | art post) Coming out of Spooktober, we had the opportunity to work Caio Santos - another one of those artists who are available for work on a handful of times each year - and being familiar with their portfolio, we wanted something epic. So that's what we did. We lined up some big climactic moments, and our patrons picked the Warbreaker scene where Susebron saves Siri from Bluefingers and his Lifeless. Of course, our secret plan was to bring more sexy Returned art into the world, and Santos definitely understood the assignment. December 2021 (poll post | art post) December gave us another opportunity to work with an artist we had been itching to hire - Heather, better known as betweenskyandsea on our Discord, or Heatherly on Instagram. She had been working on some environment studies lately, and we wanted to give her an opportunity to explore some ideas while also getting paid. So we picked some locales, and our patrons picked the Pantheon archipelago (an option we were secretly hoping would win anyway). Needless to say, Heather killed it, and we can't wait to find another excuse to work with her! January 2022 (poll post | art post) Which all brings us into 2022, and the last of our (first) 12 monthly commissions. We had known that the end of 2021 would bring us a lot of new Cytoverse stories, so we started chatting with Jill Andersen, a brilliant artist with a lot of fantastic Skyward (and Starsight) illustrations; we had to have her do a piece for us, and with all these Cytoverse books, we wanted to dedicate a month to just that (because, let's be honest with each other, Cosmere options will usually beat non-Cosmere ones). One poll later, and we had our winner - FM and Rig, the cutest and newest ship to sail? fly? the Cytoverse. Plus some slugs, for good measure. The End And that's it. Twenty excellent (in our humble opinion) illustrations, over 12 months, none of which would've seen the light of day without the continued support of our patrons. If you are one of the people who has helped us make all of this a reality, thank you, and there's a lot more where all of that came from. If you are not, thank you too, for making it this far into this slightly rambly post; maybe consider joining in? Of course, none of these would've seen the light of day without the incredibly talented artists we hired throughout the year. Every single one of them was great to work with, and every single one of them exceeded our expectations. They all deserve your love, so find them (online!) and give it to them. At the time of writing of this post, we are mere dollars away from our $1,250 goal, which will double our monthly art budget, allowing us to commission even more art from even more artists, so we are all very much looking forward to that. But until then, we are still churning things out every month, and have no plans to stop, so here's to another year of wonderful art for all of us!

  12. In RoW, we get a more information on the whereabouts of Honorblades from multiple different sources. We get enough random Honorblades that it feels like Brandon is signposting something. What if the Honorblades are keys to making new Heralds? Being that the Honorblades are required in order to connect new Heralds to the Oathpact? Additionally, we have a super simple way to get new Heralds: Rysn as the Change Dawnshard. The Plan is to Change the Oathpact with Rysn (possibly revealing some history of the Dawnshard. To do this, you need the ten Honorblades and the Dawnshard and then Dalinar, as a Bondsmith, could take up the Dawnshard and command the Oathpact to Change the bearers of the Oathpact, who could renew it by going back to Braize. Or there is another person who could possibly pick up the Dawnshard, but that's a Spoiler for SP 4.

  13. Hoid is no stranger to overarching plans- his presence on Roshar is for one, a single, Stormlight-related plot goal. He is confirmed to possess a plan, when in Secret History, Hoid says to Kelsier: Neither Leras or Khriss give hints away, other than that Khriss considers her task futile when she hears he took the second to last Lerasium bead- but Hoid's search of adding new magic systems to his portfolio always seems secondary. Other than the theft of the lerasium, we know three things Hoid was doing during era 1. The first is that Hoid was a successful informant in Luthadel during TFE, one known to both the nobility and rebellion, who dealt with both, and was successful enough he was smoking tobacco, a high-in-demand luxury item on Scadrial. The only thing that seems notable here is that Hoid either doesn't know about House Renoux being a front of the rebellion, or he's trying to dissuade Kelsier in the guise of a nobleman from peering too closely into Renoux. The second, during WoA, is that he is primarily in Terris, not trying to get Feruchemy, but investigating it, because he has a power that is similar to Feruchemy, and he is attempting to secure guidance from the Synod and the Keepers. With the Razing of Tathingdwen, he ends up wrapped up in the event, and becomes the leader of a group of Terris refugees, securing their safety. The third, during HoA, is that he is doing the successful informant thing again, in Fadrex City- successful enough that the King of the Dominance, Ashweather Cett, encouraged Vin to seek him out for information, but the two never meet, as Kelsier guides her away from Hoid, and Ruin is unaware of his presence in Fadrex. Now, what was this plan? The biggest thing Kelsier did was overthrow the Final Empire, and pave the way for the death of the Lord Ruler- so Hoid was planning for him to die- but for what reason? I've seen speculation that the plan was to grab the lerasium and run, but if this was true, then Hoid would get the hell off of Scadrial, as opposed to sticking around after the Well of Ascension is emptied and there are no viable ways of getting off world. Hoid knew Scadrial would survive, and stayed on the world until the Catacendre. Leras states that he and Hoid were not in contact in the past few years, so Hoid possibly doesn't know Preservation's plan, but he has been on Scadrial before- the Terris Worldbringers was either founded by Hoid or someone influenced by Hoid. It's possible his plan was Preservation's plan, and he was aiding him secretly- and that seems the closest, but Kelsier was integral to the success of Preservation's plan, so why was he ignored by Hoid? Pre-Roshar, being a subtle actor is what Hoid's best at, and I have no doubt he used this to nudge rumors and people towards certain actions, and this made up a majority of his subtle influence on his world, but I am clueless about his ultimate plan- other than it does not involve the destruction of Scadrial.

Fury that this Starbreaker- no, the Starbreaker-would murder his comrade and then dismiss Kalan without a second thought. Fury won. Kalan screamed, and charged at Kevlin. He fired a single shot that hit the rebel leader dead in the face. Kevlin survived, of course. As Kalan got close enough to strike, Kevlin's mechanical arm shot out and grabbed Kalan by the front of his uniform. Kalan was slammed into the ground. His breath was knocked out of him, and he stared dazed up into the sky and at the warship hovering overhead. "Look, kid," Kevlin said without looking at him. "I can tell that you're a little more sensible and open minded than most other people in the army. So I'll tell you this." Kevlin turned his gaze on Kalan and stared at him with one piercing blue organic eye, and one ominous red mechanical one. "Stay the lights out of my way, and I might just let you live." Kevlin then jumped. Somehow, he flew much farther than any person would ever be able to on his own, most likely due to his mechanical legs. The force of his jump, plus his mechanical parts, somehow let him drill a hole through the hull of the warship. Kevlin disappeared inside. When Kalan finally caught his breath, he ran.

  17. Hey. I'm gonna try doing more status updates and possibly posting writing stuff. How do you like my old pfp returning? I think it fits. im thinking of changing the backdrop thing and updating a few things in the about me page. I have been working on doing a few edits in a rewrite of me and my friend's book. the rewrite is about 130 pages long, which compared to how long the OG version was.. well, it's really good. our styles have gotten much better and defined. the book is moving along smoothly. I'm still wondering if we should go traditional publishing or independent publishing. independent publishing seems to have a less guarantee that your book will be popular while trad publishing seems like it's gonna take longer to get worked out. has anyone on here done trad or indie publishing and can tell me how that works more?

Haha, I suppose things did fall apart in Bean's case, thought not because the new system he'd created was working so well that everything else collapsed (like in Kaladin's case). Ah, yes, thank you for explaining. I knew the 'what' but not the 'why'. Don't tell my grandma, but all this talk about the differences between Judaism and Christianity made me realize that Christianity is more up my alley than Judaism, haha. Chapter 33, Shallan: Hm. If Kabsal's goal was to talk to Jasnah, why did he leave the moment she showed up? Very suspicious... Yes, Shallan should definitely switch her religious path to one that better fits her! Especially now that her father isn't around to tell her off. There was one point where Jasnah mentioned stealing her Soulcaster and Shallan's hand flew to her secret pocket. My guess is that Jasnah noticed that and will now be a little more suspicious of Shallan.

  19. Her body barely even felt like her own as Laurelai straightened the neckline of her Havah, using the mirror in Lita's office to confirm that her former disheveled appearance had been returned to a properly calm demeanor and dress. Neither clothing nor her mind were twisted about themselves any longer, and she was able to regain a measure of control over herself and her surroundings. Enough to finally quash that incessant urge that had been digging at her mind for days. The quiet calm however, would be wasted if she simply sat here adjusting her appearance. Not for the first time in her life she wished there were a quicker way to make herself presentable after waking or... other activities. But now there was another problem to deal with, her mind was clear enough to actually focus now, which meant she could pay attention to an entire file and work her way through an investigation rather than just trying to devour every piece of knowledge she could. So now she would need to systematically work through all that they could, her own knowledge, what she had gleaned from Forging herself and the files from the department of Records. "Do you mind if I write down what you said?" Laurelai asked Lita. She looked up to address her, and ten almost immediately looked away again with a warm pink colouring her face. Rusts what had Laurelai been thinking? This had been such a terrible idea. She was going to need to look Lita in the face every day for as long as she worked here, and every time she was going to remember this. Laurelai wasn't entirely sure what had been happening to her, though it seemed the pool in her flashes of memory had something to do with it. But whatever it was had certainly wound her so tightly that she'd abandoned any semblance of rational planning. "About the memories." She clamored, trying to cover her embarrassment. "Just to help piece everything together it would help if I could lay things out." @ZincAboutIt

  22. I have read through all the stuff, and I’m going to try my best to piece together what I gathered from all that, and compare it to my limited knowledge of physics… Physics doesn’t work here. Quantum physics is the answer. For physics to apply, then I think we would be looking at an air resistance formula. You can look at all factors in that, and it doesn’t make sense for an Edgedancer to be manipulating any of them. Lift isn’t changing the density of air, she isn’t directly influencing her speed (when using powers. She obviously does when she slaps the ground), she isn’t changing the drag coefficient (though that is a whole equation of itself), and she isn’t changing her surface area. If you don’t change any of those, then your air resistance doesn’t change. According to quantum physics, when two things encounter each other, there is a non zero chance for one to pass through the other without interacting. This is how things like glass and photons interact to let light pass through. If you fill a glass with water and pick it up, you might not be able to see your hand through the water and glass. But if you squeeze the glass really hard, that infinitesimal amount that your fingers got closer will increase that non zero chance enough to allow some photons to pass through and reach your eyes. This chance exists with bigger things as well, just much much smaller. You could theoretically stand up and walk through a wall, or your cat could fall through you when you pick it up, or a bullet could go through you, etc. The chances are just so incredibly small that… there isn’t even a comparison that would give the right idea. I think that what Lift does is use Stormlight to increase those odds. There isn’t any scientific explanation for what she does, but I think she accesses the spiritual realm to let her pass through air, or at least ignore the presence of the electrons around her that would be pushing against her skin.

Hesina doesnt seem to have any mental health issues, which makes it less likely that Hesina is a herald. I think the Checkov's Gun with Khal is that her was born in Karbrandth and that fact will cause some issues to Odium later on. There could be other Herald kids though. Lift might be one perhaps. Cultivation sure did take a special interest in some random kid.

(If this happened, I'd imagine it'd be because of the quality of the books spread by word-of-mouth and their initial scarcity working together to create a demand for the books that launches them to the stratosphere.)

  30. I think this is plausible, but a poor usage of Hemalurgy. The Connections formed between an Allomancer and Hemalurgic construct are not particularly strong, and another Allomancer may be able to relatively easily overwhelm your control, assuming those Connections are transferred in a reduced capacity in the same way that other abilities are. Once your control is broken, there wouldn't be anything that would let you reestablish the Connection, and then you've gone to all of that effort and have a spike in you with nothing else to show for it. It would make more sense to me that you would spike out whatever ability that allowed the Allomancer to control the Hemalurgic constructs in the first place and give it to yourself, and while it might be weaker and you might need another spike, you could at least gain control over the constructs and not merely rely on the existing Connections. Okay, maybe it would be worth it if that particular person was controlling huge numbers of constructs, but then there may be other complications. Power and will seem to have a component, so even if you were to say spike out Elend's Connection when he has control of tens of thousands of Koloss, you may not have the same level of power or mental fortitude to maintain control of them. It kind of depends on what else is at play with controlling those with Hemalurgic spikes, since once you have control of them, you no longer need to burn Zinc or Brass to maintain that control.

  35. Part of the risk we take on getting on the internet is also that we might be banned from communities who are able to set their own rules. Asking people to be responsible for their own blocklist in lieu of removing people does nothing to protect a community. It's one of those nice ideas that doesn't line up with how people actually use spaces on the internet. It wouldn't work in a nice, clean way, and there would be constant issues with things falling between the cracks. Rather than making anything easier, every aspect of interacting in the community would become, quite frankly, miserable. There are all kinds of examples of the misery: (1) Curating blocklists to pass around can very easily become a new way to exclude, harass, or bully someone; what if someone decides they don't like x person and put their name on a list so people will refuse to interact with them? This is just banning someone but based on social dynamics instead of community standards and with a bunch of extra steps. (2) What if someone is harassing another person, and because we refuse to ban anyone, they can just create new account after new account to send messages to the person they're harassing to get around account blocks, again and again? (3) Every time new people join, it would take them time and effort to sort through the people they're okay with and the people they're not okay with. Why should people have to go through that effort and see things they don't want to see, when they should have an expectation of people being civil right from the start? When people find a group of people they really like to talk with without certain others, they make group DMs or private discords or all of that, and that's something people already do when they want a more controlled space to socialize in. But it doesn't make the public space safer or more pleasant. It's not plausible or appropriate to suggest that blocking is a sufficient defense against people who are breaking the code of conduct. We're pleased with our moderation standards. Speaking for myself only here, I stand by the belief that firm and clear community standards, enforced by strong moderation, makes for a great community. Lax to no moderation leads to jerks basically controlling the community, and everyone else too miserable or unsafe to want to go to those places at all - which will mean that shortly, the community will be only jerks. Bans are not something we love doing, but are one of the tools we have at our disposal to actually protect our community. We use bans as infrequently as we can, using them in extreme cases or in cases of repeated (and repeated, and repeated, and repeated) behaviour - but it is a tool that online communities need.

So I have been under the impression that the Cosmere is a star cluster of 50-100 stars, which I've seen in multiple WOBs, but reading through mistborn, I noticed that on multiple occasions the stars in the sky are described as being as numerous as thousands or more. Is this a mistake? Are they just seeing planets? I'm genuinely stumped here, as I've seen contradictory evidence for the number of stars in the cosmere and it has been driving me up the wall. Thank you for your time
