  3. I have a cello recital coming up in an hour and I'm surprisingly chill lol Does anyone else here play an instrument? I play the cello and ukulele and it's super awesome, but funnily enough i've only actually been nervous before online performances where you submit a recorded video before the recital and they play it, never in person ones. It's one of my super powers

  6. I was waiting for a game to end before bringing this up, but i feel like the game is probably over because idr how long ago it was blue text we have a cool feature that lets us talk about things happening in our life in a way that is allowed to be referenced in the game, as well as in a way where people will believe us Recently I've seen some people saying things like "can you bluetext that?" and I think that's....I don't know how to say it besides gross and dirty tbh. It, imo, encourages a game where people can be solved like connie claims to be- no lies. you bluetext it for me? nice, you're a villager. you don't? you're a wolf, cool. I understand that people can obviously choose not to answer, but i don't think asking should be happening anyways, even when it references things going on in real life. There's a rule against using bluetext to verify in game things and i know that. I still think that people shouldn't be asking it at all. I know that I've played a lot offsite and maybe you think that affects how well i should be able to say what i don't think should be in SE (in terms of i shouldn't) but i think that things like that aren't healthy to the game. I don't want to waste my games policy voting people who do this. There was discussion around the AG about this method of enforcing the meta we want and I don't like wasting a game like that. I'd rather have a conversation around it and come to a conclusion like that. and of course /I/ think the conclusion should be that we make sure we individually don't put pressure on people like this. it starts getting dangerously close to trust telling and being able to lock the game without even playing it.

  7. Hi All, Doing a re-read of Oathbringer and came across a curious quote, which I had a look for but I don't think has been brought up before. I know there are many theories about the Unmade, and I think this might give us another bit of info that can be worked in to theories. In a Dalinar look-back chapter Brandon seems to make it very obvious that when under the influence of Nergaoul, and amidst completely loosing himself within battle against Kalanor's forces, he attuned to one of the rhythms of Roshar. Someone might know more than me, but as far as I am aware, I can't re-call any human in the books attuning to a rhythm, and acknowledging it, if even in an unknowing/unconscious way. We have comments from Rlain about how Rock and others in Bridge Four seem to almost hear a rhythm a times - but this is seemingly unconscious on their part, and nearly nearly not the same as a viewpoint character directly referencing it. Here is the quote: I think there are a few things we can assume from this: 1. Like I said, Dalinar has heard and attuned to a rhythm of Roshar 2. Giving he is directly under Nergaoul's influence, we can probably assume that this ability to attune to a rhythm has a link to Nergaoul's characteristics, abilities, and identity. This gives us a potentially interesting tidbit about Nergaoul, and maybe the rest of the unmade, firstly it perhaps indicates a direct Connection (and I use this in a big C way purposefully) between them and Roshar. Secondly, they are able to connect humans with Roshar while under their influence. As mentioned above, I am not sure exactly how useful or insightful this is - cleverer people than me might be able to see some relevance to this within the theories. But I hadn't seen this mentioned before, so thought I would point it out. Have at it people! Let me know what you think.

I'll make my own Tinfoil hat theory out of yours (with Blackjack, and Hookers) The Fabrial Stuff isn't a hint that it's hemalurgy, it's very direct: The metal in El's skin act as the cage, making him a kind of Fabrial-Cyborg. I mean, he has a Gemheart, and I'm unsure if there's a Spren in it (that's what Regals are, but Idk if Fused and Regal are exclusive things), if that's where "El" is (as in, the cognitive Shadow) or if he otherwise inhabits this body (more akin to how Nale stapled Szeth back to his body... somehow.) Either way, we have the two pieces for a Fabrial: 1. a Gem(heart) for a Spren (a piece of investiture) to inhibit 2. A metal "cage" around it to influence what happens. I would not be surprised if we learned that that's what the metal is there for. We know El has appreciation for Humans and their arts. He would be eager to see if the impressive technology of Fabrials can be used for gain. Now the only question is what metals those are, and what they do with the Spren or CS inside El's Gemheart.

  15. Last year we announced our Interactive Map and Timeline of Roshar. With Rhythm of War now one year old, we're here today to announce a major update! We have expanded the timeline to include events for the entirety of Dawnshard and Rhythm of War, and we've added a few other new features that will be explained below. For a general overview, if you are unfamiliar with the project, see our previous announcement and this trailer. We hope that this map and timeline continues to be a useful tool for refreshing yourself on the books or simply exploring the world of Roshar! You can visit the Interactive Map and Timeline of Roshar at roshar.17thshard.com! New Features Events have been updated to include Dawnshard and Rhythm of War. Some previously existing events on the timeline have been updated for improved accuracy based on new information from the latest books. Search: You can now search events, locations, characters, and more! This feature can be found in the top-right corner next to the settings menu button. Measurements: We consulted the royal cartographer Isasik Shulin and did the math! Accessible from the compass-looking button to the top right of the timeline, you may now measure distances across Roshar and get coordinates for any location on the continent. As a bonus, the graticule we draw on the map should now be more accurate, too! Spoiler Filters: The book filters, under settings, have been reworked to act as spoiler filters! You can now disable events for any books you haven't read, preventing them from appearing on the timeline. Note that those events will still appear under 'Related Events' on the detailed view of locations or characters, however. Sharing: While we don't exactly have Spanreed technology, there are now easily accessible sharing buttons in the details views of everything you can view on the map and timeline! Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Tumblr are supported by default, but on supported devices such phones, you can use any available sharing option. Updated Shadesmar Map: We found a perpendicularity and had the chance to explore Roshar's Cognitive subastral! The map of Shadesmar has been updated with some of the locations we know so far. If you have any issues using the map or suggestions for us, feel free to comment here, use our feedback thread, or approach us on Discord. If you want to support what we do, including projects like this, find us on Patreon! Thanks, and enjoy!

  16. I am coming back to my own topic to add in something else I noticed, probably because I made this topic. Rock has also consciously heard and attuned to a rhythm of Roshar. We should probably note the fact that Horneaters have some parshendi blood in them, so it might be easier for them to attune to the rhythms. But there is a specific quote that starts the passage, that given the only other time that we have seen a human character attune a rhythm is Dalinar during war, makes me suspicious that something else is going on - and that it is important. Here is the quote below, abridged for the important bits: I think there are a couple of interesting things here. Both of these characters have managed to attune to a rhythm when they are engaged in activities that they spiritually see as their true calling in life - Warfare and cooking. The start of the quote also directly makes a comparison between the two activities as well. I thought the first instance of Dalinar was an interesting footnote. But given this second evidence of Rock - even accounting for his horneater blood, there is something more going on in regards to humans attuning to either a rhythm, or different rhythms, when doing something they perceive as their spiritual calling. Please help me figure out the implications of this - and what might be going on. A lot of you are far smarter than me.

  23. Yeah, I would agree that the consistent core of visions that we're after here is Spiritual, and that Spiritual Realm under Access would be the best place for that information; that will put things in context nicely. I'm also not a fan of the vague title of Visions, though it could be good to keep as a redirect to the section on Spiritual Realm for anyone who puts Vision(s) into the search bar. It has been bothering me a little that the page is named Dalinar's visions, since they aren't strictly his. I don't think that's a problem for what's covered on the page though; if we have a series of notable visions like this, it seems pretty natural to cover everything about them, including both their contents and the mechanics that underlie them, on their page. Unless I'm misunderstanding and you're talking about the visions involving the Stormfather that aren't part of the ones left by Honor? Details about those should probably be at Stormfather#Visions (which only seems to discuss the Bondsmith visions right now); Highstorm#Centerbeat should maybe also have a little bit more info. And yup, the Investiture page should definitely talk about its time distortion properties more; that page is in need of some love in general. Also, just to address the Cognitive anomaly comparison briefly, yes there probably is a bit more information on visions than Cognitive anomalies--I'd probably say maybe one sort of mental category of information quantity higher for me. But, especially with these more abstract topics, quantity of information isn't the only thing to consider in what gets a page. In general, more precise or formal terms are more likely to get their own page, which seems to be more the case here: Cognitive anomalies seem to be a fairly well defined thing, even though we don't know much about them yet, while visions feel more like a common theme on generic Spiritual Realm properties, and putting that information in context on the Spiritual Realm page feels like the best approach to me. And on that structural note, there are also some pragmatic considerations that have a little bit of weight, like the fact that the Spiritual Realm page is in good shape to include this information, whereas the Cognitive Realm page doesn't really have the structure for that and looks like it needs some devoted attention from an experienced editor (I went to take a look and, uh, it's changed very little since it was first written in 2016). Or at least, that's some of what's going through my head; unfortunately, I think some of these structural things are more instincts that develop over time and even when Keepers agree, we may be approaching things from different angles.

  27. Actually, the oathgate on Urithiru wasn't sealed. Shallan merely rotated the oathgate control building, causing the doorway to open into an area that was still covered in crem. The control buildings on Urithiru had much less crem on them, due to the hightsorms rarely reaching the tower.

I just responded to this but then it disappeared so I'll try again I guess You can do both, depending on how you activate the oathgate. you can either transport the whole thing or just the contents of the control room. Transporting the whole thing costs a lot more stormlight. IIrc they learned how to transport the whole thing in the time between WOR and Oathbringer,

  33. Love this Shardcast! Slyadin No thank you! I never got a romantic vibe. She is very positive and innocent like Tien. That's their dynamic to me. Unfortunately, I think there is a way this can happen that is the inspiration for what Ishar is attempting. My theory is Siah Aimians, like Axies, were spren who found a way to convert themselves into physical realm beings. Kaladin's Suicidal Ideation I would say it is there at a low level in Way of Kings besides the Honor Chasm. In WoK his constant complaint is that he continues to live while everyone else dies. A big part of that is him trying to redeem himself (in his eyes) for Tien's death by saving others. But he presents it as "everyone else dies, but I keep living" in other words "Why don't I get to die? I hate continuing to live." Kaladin's Fate Since so much of his struggle has been depression, suicidal ideation and struggling not to give up I think a death would be too easy. The more challenging ending of book 5 for him is to have to continue to live and deal with life. Life Before Death, baby! The Lirin's Advocate (hidden for length)

  46. I've decided upon my Epic's name! It would be Transcendence. The godlike telepathic power would allow me to read minds of everyone on the planet, and grant me with expanded mental capacity to process it. I have access to thoughts, memories, and also muscle memory. This means Transcendence has access to literally all of humanity's knowledge or skills at any moment. The act of summoning knowledge or information is not instantaneous--general queries take time, though if I focus upon specific people, it is laughable easy, and nearby people I do have instant knowledge of. But it is more of "hey get me some kata stances" and if I hadn't grabbed it and archived it specifically, there is delay. I don't have invincibility, but you can't assassinate me because I'd know you are coming. Earthquakes, natural disasters would get me. Long range missiles might be challenging, but I figure I would constantly be querying myself and making sure I know everyone's thoughts regarding me. But given that I don't have direct offensive abilities, I would hide. The name Transcendence does not just come from my own knowledge. I can send thoughts, but I cannot control people. Unless they give themselves to me. In exchange for their service, they can transcend themselves, and have access to this immense knowledge. They don't get the increased mental capacity, so I generally need to query information for them. But they have access to this vastness. But, what I gain is mental slaves who I have absolute control over. With no offensive abilities, it is much more advantageous to keep my identity hidden. I stay in the shadows and try and bribe people into becoming Transcendent, and then I exert my will through them. It's a character from Guild Wars, my MMO series of choice. This is Shiro Tagachi, the villain of actually my least favorite of GW1's campaigns. It requires a bit of explanation as to why he's my avatar, as he's been it since before 17S existed. You see, back in... 2006, when Guild Wars Factions came out, I lived with my dad in the middle of nowhere. We had dialup. Surprisingly, Guild Wars 1 worked okay on dialup, actually, as much of that game was instanced. That was nice. Anyway, Shiro's plotline was pretty terrible. He came back from the dead, brought affliction, blah blah. In the final battle with Shiro I kept DCing because dialup was also awful, but I managed to get credit for the mission. The end cutscene had someone explain that they need an especially bad place for him in the afterlife, since he already left it once. So that person said Shiro was going to "a place of eternal torment." Naturally, I assumed this to be a dialup modem. It makes sense. It basically is eternal torment. From there I began to say that random disconnecting was Shiro's fault. Later when I got better internet, when routers randomly need to be rebooted, I also blame Shiro. He is a convenient scapegoat for all networking problems. His powers have grown over the years. If a snowstorm takes out the internet, I blame Shiro. His mythology that I have invented is extensive now. There's the Anti-Shiro, god of networking, but Shiro erased his name. Shiro can turn into a cat, and for some reason, I have memory of Matt Damon/Jason Bourne being part of Shiro's mythology. I don't really know why. Shiro's my avatar in penance, so he takes pity upon me and does not destroy my internet. That, or I liked the wallpaper at the time, and I might just think it's so weird if I change it now. Dr Pepper. I basically already have that done. You can download the software at your leisure, though it's paid. But no, you don't get access
