  1. Without any further action from the Ministry, the skaa were somewhat directionless. Accusations were retracted just as rapidly as they were made, and it didn't seem like they would reach a conclusion. Attention briefly turned to Ill Way for her near death the day prior, but as the sun began to set, she and Eron diverted everyone's attention, and then killed Em. After rifling through Em's things, it was determined that she had held a relatively privileged position at a nearby textile mill, but nothing linked her to the Ministry. Now she was just another dead skaa on the streets, body abandoned as the crowd fled the coming mists. Frozen Mint was a Skaa Overseer! Night 2 has begun and will end at 6:00 PM EDT. Please welcome @Condensation to the game; she is replacing Steel moving forward. Vote Count: Player List:

  2. Nah. The longer the better. It'd be one thing if there was a lot of stuff that could be cut, but that's not the thing here. Even the downtime has ramifications for the future in addition to providing spots where the reader can let a breath out instead of being wound up for the whole book. Plus it's epic fantasy, long books are expected. 200 pages per book work for some things, don't get me wrong, but Stormlight is far, far beyond the point where 200 pages would work for a mainline novel of the series.

  3. I would read them if they were 10,000 pages long. Unlike some Wheel of Time books, I have never reached the end of a Stormlight book and not wanted to read the next one immediately.

  4. Yayyyyy doing everything again! Well, not everything - sorry, non-role-playing categories - but like almost everything. But also so much stuff. I feel so bad, I keep missing bits of things because I'm in the middle of other things. It's the way of life. And I'm prioritizing well - all of my homework is done~~! How about you guys, are your lives busy and organized?

  5. Who would you consider more honorable between Kaladin and Szeth? I stick this comparison between these two because I feel that their actions are most purely honorable. Characters such as Dalinar have been involved in so much more that just honorable actions. (Ex: influenced by impluse, passion, growth, in addition to honor). From what I see, Kaladin has been driven by his sense of honor to protect and serve those he loves, as well as those he doesn't. He's learned to protect his enemies is he know's that it's right. He personal journey seems to embody honor in the sense that it doesn't matter if it is something that he doesn't want to do, he get's up and does the honorable thing because according to his beliefs that is what he must do. Not sure if this will be a similarly held opinion, but I feel that Szeth's actions are as equally honor bound as Kaladin's. His beliefs and knowledge lead him down a violent path, but despite it being more than he can bear he binds himself to what he believes to be true. From my perspective, the Radiant Journey helps both (and all) to grow in the areas that will help them act more honorable. (Which is probably why there is the belief that shard blades come from an alloy of both honor and cultivation's god metal). I've seen some suspicion that someone will pick up the pieces of honor and wield the shard again, and I feel that these two are the most purely honorable that I've seen. Kaladin is called the son of Tanavast, and Szeth..... well Michael Kramer uses the same voice for him as he does for Sazed so....

  7. Prompt 3; Vessel, featuring Tamika Satrebil transforming into my name sake. Zephrun's Imperium. For those who are unaware, an Imperium is the condensed power of a planet into a human being. They are essentially generic shards. Shards have vessels and so do Imperiums, so, hey, the prompt works. I'm going to spoiler this drawing, 'cause it's a little racy, I guess, but I'm ridiculously proud of it. We were off to a rocky start with Crystal (heh, pun), but if the following two drawings are any indication, this is gonna be an epic Inktober line up.

  8. I took my written test for Driver’s Ed today. It was… interesting. The first thing that I had to do was take a practice test, which was fifty questions that were all multiple choice. They gave me a blank test, as well as one with the answers circled by hand so I could compare when I was done. The idea here is that if I did bad on the practice test, I wouldn’t have to waste my one free attempt on the test, cause if I fail the retake costs money. I thought it was pretty easy, but when I compared with their answer sheet I ran across five or six questions where I flat-out disagreed with the answer sheet. Things that I knew were right but the answer sheet said otherwise. Some I wasn’t sure, like I thought I was right but it was realistic that maybe I misremembered, but some I knew without a doubt that the answer sheet was wrong and that made me pretty nervous. Technically I don’t think the score I got on the practice test was good enough to qualify for the real one but because I was unsure about the answer sheet as a whole I just went along and took the real one anyway. The real test was forty multiple choice questions, taken from the same bank as the practice test. I could miss a maximum of eight and still pass. As I took it I found that the same five or six questions that I was unsure about because of the practice test were on the real one as well. Which was not really fun for me to decide what to do I opted to lean towards trusting the practice test answer sheet on the ones I thought maybe it was right, while sticking to what I knew was right for the others. I felt alright about it when I turned it in. The instructor grades it right then and there, so I watched her tick off the incorrect answers, and as she checked closer to forty the incorrect answers grew closer to eight. I, officially, got eight wrong. Which is a pass. Barely. But then I mentioned that I thought some of the questions on the practice test were wrong, so the instructor looked it over. And yep, most of the ones I was unsure about were in fact marked incorrectly on the practice test answer sheet, making my score closer to 36/40. Which, since I passed anyway, doesn’t really matter but it made me wonder how many other people ‘failed’ the test because they trusted the sheet over their own judgement and memory. The instructor ripped the answer sheet in front of me and promised to look over the other ones, but it was clear that the answer sheet had been in use for awhile. So yeah, I’m fairly annoyed at the system Like, you had one job. But I passed. Now just the driving drive test… (Sorry for the long and dramatic SU, but I thought this was worth a share )

  9. Steelheart is one of or my favourite single book ever. And the ending is just perfection. I've been drawing whatever I'm interested in at the moment in my diary along things I write there and I've been hooked on Reckoners and Stormlight archive, Stormlight archive is also my favourite book series ever.

  14. I feel that you need an option for No, they're good where they are. Honestly, though if authors could just publish a book all once I wouldn't complain no matter the length. They are just stopping points for the author. And also for the book binders I guess.

  15. Spoilering so I don't take the whole page A few more thoughts: I don't like the train on Matrim at the moment. If the lynch is currently V/V, he likely has the more useful ability. I'm happy to keep infodumping in thread the generic information I find, but I'm also not planning on selling anyone out. I know what tenement Azmine was in, but I don't know how useful or relevant that is now. I'm happy to answer any more questions. I hope to post a reads order if not a reads list before rollover, but I'm finishing this right now at work. Work ends for me the same time as rollover, so it will all depend on how busy we are.

  18. It's heavily implied, almost too heavily I'd say. I'm honestly worried Brandon won't be able to surprise us at the contest, simply because every outcome is expected. We also don't know what the results would be, does that mean the contract is Null and Void? No clause was fullfilled, so it's possible it'd remain on the table. Why should it stop being in play unless fulfilled or superseded? An amusing occurence that could leave both sides in breach of the agreement, as they are no longer able to send champions the specified time. There's also the question of how one forces a draw in a contest to the death. Unless both champions die in the exact same instant of course, but that seems hard to pull off. And if it's all in good faith, as Rayse implies, then things like Dalinar's forces attacking Odium's champion shouldn't count against him as long as they were ordered not to, and any deliberate machinations to make the other side attack your champion should come back to you, so it'd be hard to engineer a genuine breach of contract. ¤_¤

  19. Well, by his saying "I was never Truthless" and the context he says it in, his status as Truthless seems to hinge on his having lied, or been untruthful. He now has seen evidence of that what he claimed, that got him branded as Truthless, was in fact true, making him definitionally not Truthless. His being Truthless is based on a false conviction and seems to be mostly self-enforced and heavily based in Shin culture and religion, he was convinced the Shin leaders were right and that he was wrong, but once he knew that he'd been wrongfully accused it all fell apart. Being falsely convicted of a crime does not make you guilty of said crime. Shin society also easily reads as an "honour" society, in which it might be hard apply modern legal thought. To be fair, no-one seems to be enforcing his punishment. He's also trapped in an unwinnable situation, he can either serve a punishment that he knows is wrongfully inflicted on him for the rest of his life or try to appeal to a system that's already condemned him and would probably punish him further as he'd need to violate his status as Truthless to even attempt an appeal (unless his master ordered him to or, possibly, gave him permission.) He'd also be hit with even more cognitive dissonance than he already is if he kept to his Truthlessness in spite of it all, because then he'd know that he has a choice. There's also the question if Truthless is a legal verdict or a social humiliation and ostracism kinda thing. Or, given how much time is spent on explaning what being Truthless means for Szeth's soul, a religious thing. If it's a religious rather than civil verdict, the morality of the conviction might actually be directly relevant to its legality, a bit like you might be suspicious of a Catholic excommunication if you find out that the Pope who issued it is a heretic. Seen in a religious context both Szeth's deciding that the verdict doesn't apply and Nale's acceptance thereof makes sense. If the verdict wasn't valid from the start Szeth isn't at fault, but he thought he was, and Nale praises him for holding to the mores and rules he was convinced were right, which makes it clear that Szeth's conduct is important here, as he doesn't blame Szeth for all the crimes other people had him commit, even though he should be guilty of them, having never been Truthless. Yeahhhh, Szeth is not in a good place mentally in... the Stormlight Archive, honestly. End of Words of Radiance he's really started to crack though. I will say this for him, once he comes to terms with that he's not Truthless, doesn't need to keep fighting Kaladin, etc., he has a really good character moment, expressing agency and a will of his own in a brilliant climax for the character, chosing to stop fighting and let himself die. Which Nale promptly ruins by ressurecting him, but Szeth also gets points there for calling Nale out on it. ¤_¤

  22. I feel like honour isn't exactly quantifiable. They're differently honourable. Though Szeth has, as far as we know, held to what he's understood to be his obligations flawlessly, while Kaladin hasn't. Then again their situations also aren't the same, barring that the times when they were slaves had an overlap. ¤_¤

  23. To me, this would undo essentially the entirety of his character arc, imo. His two greatest struggles have been his sometimes-suicidal depression and him giving too much of himself trying to save people, and I feel like that would undo his entire thing with learning to handle those more healthily.

  25. The hit die thing is fine then. I retract that one. I think it should function as any chosen heavy armor +1 until level 17. The resistance is pretty strong imo. Edit: Working at the subclasses- windrunner squires seem a bit situational. Skybreaker attack of opportunity thing seems a bit weird for a level 10 feature? It doesn't seem to gel with the rest of the kit in my opinion

  27. I don't think that Rhythm of War was too long. But it could have used its page count more efficiently. Kaladin is my favorite character ever, but there was too much of him running around, looking for the next node and punching people. Those parts didn't have much sense of progress and dragged. All the while characters like Renarin, Szeth and Dalinar were shoved to the side. So it feels like it's too short (because it doesn't find time for a lot of important characters) and too long at the same time (because it still finds time to make some developments extremely thorough).

  34. I find Feruchemy, being the most versatile, is the one that is most useful in daily life. Except for healing, which will make you suffer to store, the rest aren't all that bad. I am currently moving back and forth between a place that is too hot and too cold, so storing heat in one to use in the other will be a godsend, and being able to cool yourself in warm places is always useful to have. Controlling when I sleep by storing wakefulness will be really helpful for my storming sleep schedule. I feel you can always store strength throughout the day, just tad, to end up building up for a large store in the occasional moments you need to carry something too heavy or difficult for you to lift. Making yourself light whenever can be very useful (Just float down the stairs, practically zero gravity for the WIN) and I'm sure you can find a way to mess around with being heavier. Again, I don't think you always need to be as fast as you can go. Store some speed while walking, lying down, reading, basically whenever you don't need to move quickly, and have speed stored for when you're in a hurry. Speed of thought might be difficult to fit in your daily life, as you always need to think, but speed does take care of if that. The removal of senses is something many of us wish we could do at one point of another. Food burned in your house? Off sense of smell. Hurt yourself? Off any sense of feeling and block out the pain. Want to eat crappy tasting food for nutrition? Off sense of taste (I NEED this). Loud noise annoying you when reading? Off your sense of hearing. And all these senses you can increase at any time for any reason. (Not sure how to fit sight in daily life, in terms of storing without consequence.) Storing Memories. Need I go further? Storing breath wouldn't exactly be that hard. Just inhale really deeply, and boom. There are many times I wish I stored determination at a point I didn't need it so I could tap it later. Not sure how energy works. Store connection and become effectively multilingual. No cost. For someone who hates learning languages, yes, please. And rest of them are more cosmere magic related. (And the fact it's 4 - 1 is my point exactly!)

  35. This has been confirmed by Brandon. You'll like that WoB as it has a lot of juicy info, especially when it comes to his relationship with the Ghostbloods we see on Roshar. Right now it's pretty safe to say that what Kelsier is mainly up to is trying to figure out how to get off Scadrial. Possibly so he can continue his new ambition to find every Shard and punch them in the face.
