  3. I have two ideas about this. One, Hoid likes the sound of his own voice. A lot. And we don’t know what specifically went down between him and Rayse, but clearly it’s personal for Hoid. He wanted to meet face to face, for his own personal satisfaction. Two, Hoid wanted to check that Rayse doesn’t have any nasty surprises up his sleeve. He’s testing Rayse to see if he says or does anything suspicious. If it were still Rayse, this might have worked - the guy is not the smartest and can be manipulated into revealing too much. If Hoid notices that his Breaths have been tampered with and that tips him off, then it still worked, to an extent.

  5. Hi! I'm new to this, so I assumed that the multitude of introduction streams meant that that is how I should introduce myself.... so, hi. I'm technically Ari(ana), but you can call me Ari. Or Ari the Edgedancer. Or Ari the Coinshot. You can call me pretty much anything so long as it isn't late for a new Sanderson book or a curse. I'm almost caught up with the Cosmere - all I have left is the second era of Mistborn, Elantris, and White Sand (discounting novellas, of which I've only read Edgedancer). So... hi! I hope you have a wonderful day.

  6. School has been going really good. Gymnastics has been progressing well. My church meetings have opened back up and more of my friends are coming back to attendance. While all of these are things I love and am succeeding in, I am getting a relaxing break from all. For the first time since COVID hit, my family and I are on vacation! We are in Disney! I actually met a Sanderfan while in one of the lines today. Unfortunately I didn’t think to ask if they had an account, so I guess I will never know. Also, I am pulling back from the Shard some. Y’all may have noticed on your own, but my posting has dropped off dramatically. For a couple weeks I was posting more than 100 times per week, but I doing less now. Finals are a few weeks away and I should focus on that. I love y’all! Thank you for being such amazing people!

  7. Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the new ink! As for grail pens, probably either one of the nicer Nakayas, or a first edition Conid Minimalistica, which has a little pi symbol engraved on the clip (because it was released on Pi Day, which also happens to be my birthday).

  9. Sorry, I gtg soon so this is a hurried post. I appreciate this response because it’s pretty reasonable. I’m working off of the same information as you are, and getting very different conclusions, so I'm at least glad y'all's position is defensible. It feels like we're sticking with two C1 gut wagons based on not great reads. I believe Dannex is village. I think it was QF50 actually where they were widely mis-read and later mis-exed for playing a defensive playstyle. QF50 did have an early elim exe, or attempt at one, but that one had second lives. And a lot of last minute vote switching that made the thread hard to control from the shadows. This game is simpler. I don’t see any signs of elim intervention here. And the lack of self-pres vote has convinced me of their innocence. I think the mis-exe of Dannex will tell us very little. Just because someone secretly breaks a tie doesn’t mean the tie was e/v. I’d prefer to get out of this tunnel and widen our net to get some actual elim reactions. @Dannex are you the Spokesperson? Due diligence and all that. good distancing, they'll never know we're elim teammates now /s

  10. Cycle 7 - Rioter's Block Devotary had worked her magic like a charm, Rioting anger, frustration and rage among the Straff leading to mass carnage, and almost to the brink of Straff self-destruction. Almost. Of course, she didn't expect to go this far as she had to finish them off before they knew what was happening and got their Smokers to block her off. She was lucky though, she had found someone else. Lan MinRai was from the Ventures of course, but that didn't stop them from teaming up. On the battlefield with a common enemy and a common goal to survive, anyone can become your ally. And allies they were as they forced the Straff into a frenzy caused so many casualties. And then the Smokers had come in force, blocking off their emotional allomancy, and that was that. Devotary and Lan made their last stand and faced down the remaining Straffs till they couldn't. *** Obliteration was tired of this war, he was tired of this world too. Scadrial, where you can eat metals safely. He sighed, a simple breath from this Terrisman he inhabited. He was a good servant, even though he had an annoying accent. The waste of killing these mistborn was quite annoying, but that was how it was. When he strolled down an alley, he heard a clank. He turned quickly. Someone was in the alley, perhaps they would Obliterate this body? That would give him an excuse to leave without running away. Perfect. "Well, get over with." Someone moved. "Heh? What are you doing in my alley?" An old poor skaa was there. Obliteration walked forward and pushed him over. "Get out of my way," he said, much too late. He walked into the street, when he did so, he saw someone running towards him. "What is it? Have they finally decided who to Obliterate today?" He called. As the person got closer, he responded. "Yah, they decided." Obliteration nodded, annoyed as the person got close to him. "Who is it?" The man smiled for some inexplicable reason. "You." He stabbed forward and the body dropped. Obliteration rose, just a floating clump of Investiture now. Well, he thought, I guess I have an out. He teleported away. The Unknown Order was eliminated. He was a Terris Straff Mercenary! Flyingbooks was killed. They were a Venture Loyalist Rioter! Devotary of Spontaneity was killed. They were a Cett Opportunist Rioter! Vote Count: The Unknown Order (3): Flyingbooks, Ashbringer, Devotary of Spontaneity Devotary of Spontaneity (1): Illwei TUO's part of the RP was written by them, so go upvote them. 14. Are you by any chance mixing up Hemalurgy with Feruchemy? Per Feruchemy chart (https://coppermind.net/w/images/Feruchemical_table.jpg) Aluminum stores identity, not removes powers. Although there is this WoB(https://wob.coppermind.net/events/398/#e13235) that suggests that it might act like Identity sink, and not being tapable, as he did not refute it. Then again there are other WoB saying that tapping of Aluminum can heal cognitive/spiritual wounds (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/219/#e7836), implying that tapping of Aluminum minds is possible It is in Hemalurgy (https://coppermind.net/w/images/thumb/Hemalurgy_table.jpg/1920px-Hemalurgy_table.jpg) where Aluminum removes all powers. But the idea that since Aluminum is normally investiture inert would interfere with its Feruchemy sounds reasonable to me. Btw, you have great name, how did you come up with it?

  15. So, this is something I've been thinking about for awhile. I just feel like it's finally time for me to at least say something about this. I feel like someone has to. I feel like we need a better rules system. We need to more clearly define what constitutes breaking the rules, and I think adding a rule about what is okay to add into RP in terms of content (no gruesome violence, nothing with mature undertones, etc). In addition, I feel like, when the rules we do have are broken, there's not often much done about them. At least from what I can see. I've heard of players being warned, but I've not once seen or heard of a player being removed from any games they're in, nonetheless blacklisted. I've seen players banned for things outside of the game, but that came down from the big mods, the mods of the whole site itself. Which brings me to another point. I think the mods need to be more proactive about fixing problems. Yes, often no one can know when a player is feeling hurt unless they go to someone and let them know. But at the same time, there are often times where something can seem fishy or off or things get heated and the mods never step in. One thing that I think could help improve the mods' ability to do this is by having less mods join the games. I know, I know, mods want to play games too, but as a mod, they have a responsibility to the community, to make sure everyone has fun. And by having more mods not in the games, there can be more people who are impartial to the game itself that can step in when things need to be handled. I personally feel like having a single person have to deal with any and all problems that may arise during a game is a lot of pressure to put on one person. If the problem is that there are too many mods that want to play games, then maybe increase the amount of mods for the community. Having a larger mod team (and perhaps one spread out across more timezones) would help with getting issues fixed faster. Having 2-4 people watching a game from the sidelines to make sure everything is going okay and no one's getting hurt is a lot more effective than just 1 person, in my opinion. Anyway, I'm sorry if a lot of this seems really ramble-y, I've just been thinking about this for a bit and wanted to say something, at least get a conversation going. And this doesn't even mention other things I'm worried about, like the competitiveness that seems to be creeping into the games a bit more lately, and the tendency for something to go wrong and someone get hurt nearly every game. But I feel like those are issues that are a lot harder to fix, and I don't know if I have the ideas to work on them. But for the issues I brought up in the main body of this post, I feel like I've got some good ideas for how to help.

  16. So there is a classic forum game that I've usually seen called "yes, but". Usually used in reference to wishes. Basically, the first person posts a wish, then the poster after them grants that wish but tacks on a rider to make it awful, then posts their own wish. And so on and so on. The Boons and Banes from the Nightwatcher seem ideal for this. Since the bane doesn't necessarily have to be directly connected to the boon granted, this opens up a bit more leeway, but I think it could still be at least mildly amusing to see what we lurkers of the forums come up with. So how about it? Who wants to play the Nightwatcher? I'll start off with a wish that should be simple enough to screw over. "I ask the Nightwatcher for the boon of immortality. Let me live through the ages forever, seeing the march of history progress."

  18. Breeze was getting impatient. Being chased on a horseback by archers wasn’t enough and now he had to wait for His Majesty. Sure, Elend’s the king and all that but, c’mon! It’s just like how it was with Kel! Weren’t kings supposed to be punctual? Well, none of them actually are, so I don’t know why anyone expects them to, but it’s Elend. The boy’s usually on time! As if on cue, Elend entered his study, with Vin on his side. Everyone else was already present - Hammond was sitting on a plush chair in a corner and Clubs was teaching Spook tricks about gambling. “Sorry about that, I...got indulged in some research.” Elend said sheepishly. “Is that what kids call it these days?” Breeze smirked as he tried to ease the situation in the room. He knew he would be in trouble of course. There’s no way he'd get away with bringing an entire army to their home, but he’d talk himself out of it. Everyone would call his plans insane and yet agree to go ahead with it anyway. “So, you’ve got the Cett army to come here.” “Yes.” “And you thought it was a good idea?” “Of course.” “.....explain please?” “Oh you see, well. There’s your father’s army waiting to destroy you and I thought I’d bring him some competition!” “.....” “I think…” Ham intercepted, “that Breeze means we could get them to turn on themselves. It would prevent Straff from focusing solely on us.” Elend looked pensive and seemed to think about it for a while. “Would it work? Theoretically, it’s possible because they have each other as a distraction, but I’m not quite sure as their ultimate goal is Luthadel.” Breeze grinned and stood up. “Allow me to introduce my grand plan.” He could see them groaning but he ignored them and continued. “You see I didn’t just spread the rumors of the atium stash, I also sprinkled its location with them!” “What? Where, Breeze?” Vin glared. Geez, you’d have thought he had invited the Lord Ruler himself to Keep Venture. “Why, Kredik Shaw, of course! You see, they don’t need to take the city to take control of the atium. My plan involves them sneaking into the Kredik Shaw and searching for atium. And given that it’s atium we’re talking about, you can bet on the non-existent atium that there’d be someone important among the party sent to search for it.” “That’s ….surprisingly a very effective plan. So we trap and eliminate them? Cut off the head and wait for the body to go away? Effective indeed...” pondered Ham. Ha! See! No matter how crazy it seems, they always agree. “What about Straff? He won’t know about it.” “Well, you don’t think he had spies in the Cett camp?” “Well….” “Yes, that’s right. I buddied up to them, and now your father knows all about Kredik Shaw. So lad, you’ve got a decision to make. We’d all be there as one big happy family. And we trap them and take them all out. But we should be quick though, as they’re sending a party to Kredik Shaw probably as early as tonight.” Elend looked around the room to see everyone give their approval. He finally turned to Vin, and they nodded to each other. “You’ll be fine, Vin? “You take care of yourself, I won’t be there to protect you.” And that was it. Elend nodded and looked around once more. “Right, we should start preparing then. Take our most trusted guards, and be careful.” With that, Elend and Vin walked off, Vin would join them later. The others gathered around and began planning. This is going to be a very interesting night. Perhaps the young lass would slip her father’s attention and join too? He immediately dismissed the foolish thought, those would come later. For now, he joined the others as they began discussing strategy. Welcome to MR49: Lode of Luthadel! This is a three-faction game with limited info semi-eliminator teams. I'm excited to run it, and I hope you all have fun. 21. I was just checking in on the forever thread and saw something that intrigued me, mainly the thought of an Atium Shardblade. We all know by now that Atium is a Godmetal, super useful to all the Metallic Arts and hideously expensive because of its rarity. But let's say someone were to get enough Atium to forge a Sword. What would its properties be? And would those properties outweigh the benefits of just burning it? Here's my thoughts. If you used it as a Sword only I think it'd be terrible. I get the impression that it's a soft metal so it's likely to fail against simple steel. It would more than likely stop the soul cut of a Tanavastium style Shardblade and might even be able to take a couple hacks from Nightblood but it would not stop their momentum. That sword breaks in the face of any type of force used against it. Also that Sword, being a part of the Metallic Arts, can also be effected by the Metallic Arts unless you do the Nightblood thing and carry it in an aluminum sheath. Pull it out against a Mistborn at your peril. However I don't think it'd be useless altogether if fashioned correctly. Say instead of a Sword, make it a dagger with said aluminum sheath. I believe that if the user can swing the thing with Intent it has the potential to be a hell of a hazekiller weapon. If you can bury that pigsticker anywhere into a magic user you snatch all their power in one go, permanently. Even if you cannot take the power for yourself, simply depriving it from a magical opponent makes them normal. For most magic users, thats synonymous to useless or just plain dead. Then discharge what the knife snatched into whomever you choose later. It would have to be a punch dagger, slashing attacks would not do the trick IMO. I think the perfect use for such a weapon is in the hands of a trained Magic User as a weapon of last resort. A mistborn has a better use for the metal but a Radiant or Awakener can't burn the stuff anyway. And you can create a magical ally with it, a controllable one. Cause that ally knows that they only have power as long as you wish it. Pull the dagger, lose the power and the guy probably dies from the wound to boot. Anyone else got some opinions of applications of such a weapon?

  23. I think it's probably possible, but I'm not sure if it'd be automatic or not. Atium plays kind of weirdly with some of these rules. But imo, theoretically it should. Atium's oddities might tie into whatever the heck "must be refined" is referring to on the Hemalurgic table?

  31. Shardblades cut in the Physical and Spiritual Realms because they are literally the bodies of spren. The Spiritual Realm is the realm of Investiture, Connection, and Identity, while the Physical Realm is the realm of Matter and Energy, and the Cognitive is the realm of minds, souls, and perceptions. Spren bridge all three realms. Their spark of life and their bodies comes from the Spiritual, their minds are sprung from the thoughts of humans, and through human thought and the Nahel bond they manifest in the Physical as godmetal. This is not a mistake, as we see godmetal first described in Mistborn as created "from the body of the Shard themself" which is significant in a theory I'm building. This is why when Shardblades cut, they attack the soul directly, in the Spiritual Realm. All the surges work on similar principles. Gravitation. Adhesion. Cohesion. Soulcasting. They are all direct manipulations of Physical processes by manipulating the Cognitive and Spiritual components of objects and beings, fueled by the Investiture that leaks from the Spiritual to the Physical via the Shardic perpendicularities. Hemalurgy works on similar principles to this, using base-16 metals to attack the Spiritweb and steal components, with Ruin's Investiture fueling the interaction. Allomancy works on principles closer to the Dor on Sel. The Investiture of Preservation enters the Physical Realm to exert change, using the metals being burned to determine the effect the power has. If the main types of Invested Arts we see now are either based on affecting the Spiritweb or Directing Shardic Power, Feruchemy sits closely in the middle. Feruchemy allows one to use Investiture to manipulate and twist their own spiritweb in a series of ways. I believe that Identity and Investiture when pertaining to spiritwebs describe two different parts of a spiritweb. I don't think it's Identity that allows a spren's body to cut in the Spiritual, but rather that because a Spren exists as living Investiture, and therefore is innately from the Spiritual Realm, the damage it does is direct to a spiritweb. You might use Connection/Identity shenanigans to speed up the recovery of a spren, but we won't know until the interaction between Adolin and Maya is properly explained. What I don't like about the Quicksilver scenario is that it requires a heavy amount of plot-power in Quicksilver. Quicksilver to do these things must have the aim of Waxillium, the competency of Kelsier, the virtue of Adolin, and the knowledge of Jasnah as well as the planning and foresight that could only come from being the direct servant of a Shard. If we're going to go that route, I could write a similar story about Heln the Edgedancer who under the direction of Cultivation did a bunch of Rosharan-magic hacking and teamed up with Kalak to go to Scadrial and steal the Bands of Mourning to open a perpendicularity on Scadrial and trap Odium in the Scadrian system. While mechanically I can jump through the mental hoops required to make it work mechanically, how likely is it to happen without a ton of plot-armor and authorial manipulations?

  32. Somewhere it's mentioned that Odium is god's divine hatred without the other Intents to give it context. This sounds terrifying. I've always thought that ANY of the Intents without the others to give context is just as terrifying. I believe that's the whole point.

  33. I don't think we can look at every little interaction as foreshadowing. This was character development, pure and simple. It showed that had Taravangian made different choices, he could have found himself on Dalinar's side. We are supposed to be seeing the possibilities had T not locked himself away on his "dumb" days and relied entirely on "smart" days to make all decisions. If I remember right, this quote was Taravangian reacting to Dalinar saying that even T's genius day could be wrong (which it often was, particularly since no one is smart enough to correctly interpret everything he wrote that day). "Dumb" T reacted with tears and saying he hopes so. Even if Dalinar does become a tool of Odium, I don't see this line as being foreshadowing of that. Now, if they both die while grappling, definitely.

  34. I expect Moash will find his own humanity again at some point before he dies. And to many, that qualifies as "redemption arc" or at least an attempted one. So If you consider that a redemption arc, then yes, I expect one. I expect him to realize how he's lied to himself and hurt people he loves, but I don't expect full-hero from him. Could it happen? Yeah, and that would probably make people who like to simplify things dislike it simply because it's a trope, but I care more that it's written well, and I'm confident Brandon would do it well if he chose that path. As much as I love to hate Moash and think he's a great bad guy and would cheer if he died ugly, I wouldn't mind a Sanderson-strength redemption arc at all. Like others have said, it's a big theme of the series that no one is beyond hope, and Moash would certainly strike something thought-provoking and probably deeply troubling to some people--but it's not good philosophy if it doesn't make some people uncomfortable! But this is kinda like how in WoR/OB Shallan thought about some passing attraction to Kal and visa versa a bit, and people called it a love triangle. To me it was just normal, believable considering-your-options humanity, but since then I've noticed that people like to simplify stuff in order to bash on it, like tropes are inherently cheap, and I'd expect that same thing to happen for Moash if he did anything marginally good. But I think Brandon could make it so he earned it fairly and open-minded folks would be on board.

  38. That's pretty much the ideal life. Granted. You get all the chocolate you want for the rest of your life. Want some hot chocolate? Done, it appears in front of you with your favorite mug. A bar of dark chocolate or milk chocolate? No problem, a generously sized bar of the brand of your preference materializes itself in front of you. These things will happen whenever you so much as think about chocolate. However, you also crave for chocolate more than usual, for the rest of your life. You wish to eat it pretty much at all times, and while it doesn't affect your eating habits, and you can stop eating it whenever you want, that doesn't stop it from appearing out of nowhere whenever you think about it. It falls on your keyboard when you use your computer, on your work table whenever you need to do anything, on your hot soup when you try to eat normally, on your hand when you're in a place where food is not allowed. Have fun trying to live normally, I'm sure you'll figure it out. I wish for a mansion full of secret passages.

  42. I was thinking that the story of Fleet was actually about Honor versus Odium. Fleet represents Honor and the storm represents Odium Odium killed Honor, but Honor's death appears to have stopped him (based on the letters epigraph about Odium being contained) The interesting thing to note is that this happened at Shinovar, which is where we know the Honor blades are being kept. After dying, Fleet's soul rises up and roams around the world. This is eerily similar to the Stormfather. Anyone else see the coincidence? Maybe this story was not about Kaladin as Wit says it is, or maybe Kaladin is destined to do something similar to what Honor did to keep Odium contained. Not really a theory, but just something that crossed my mind
