  2. I was just scrolling through the list of different sections on the fourm, and... Well, I'm really lucky to be here. That was just a very familiar feeling, and this is such an awesome place. I've been scrolling through that for the past three and a half years. This has been a very good place for me to be. As I'm becoming a little more active, I'm starting to remember just how awesome it is. Thanks guys. And storms I feel like I've been here for forever. Remember when the Knights of the Cosmere were the Surgefinders? And how I had no idea what a roleplay was back then? *shiver* Dark times. I had such little knowledge of the Cosmere when OB came out, too... So, anyways, I felt like being a little sentimental. I can't wait to start talking about RoW! 5 days!!!

  3. A theory about Formless based on psychology. Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly called multiple personality syndrome) is a reaction to trauma that is intended to keep difficult memories at bay by becoming a different person. It's often theorized that this disorder affects Shallan and combines with her powers to form Veil, Radiant, and most recently Formless. Most of those with DID don't have more than three or four separate personalities. Shallan only has one more Ideal. Therefore, I think it's safe to assume, both from the Radiant Ideals perspective and from the psychology perspective that Formless is the last new personality. Because of the way DID begins, the interesting thing about those who suffer from DID is that no matter how many personalities they have, from two to twenty, there is usually a dominant personality and ALWAYS a child personality. We already have the dominant-Shallan-but we don't have the child personality from when the disorder first started (because DID almost always starts in children) Brandon Sanderson does his research, and I think he'll try to make Shallan's disorder as real as possible by making Formless the child personality. Also, what else could be the purpose of Formless? There's been a lot of debate about what usefulness Formless is supposed to have to Shallan; and really, there can't be anything useful about another personality, except that she needs to confront the child she was to move forward. And that's why I think Formless is a childhood Shallan.

  4. There are typically three Bondsmiths, and Bondsmith powers seem to tie heavily into support powers for other Radiants. We know that Dalinar, bonded to the Stormfather, can both provide Stormlight to others - and open Perpendicularities - as well as enhance Shallan's lightweaving, while still keeping it essentially as lightweaving. This, along with the idea of Urithiru's tie to the Sibling and the presence of suppression systems, and the Nightwatcher's status and abilities ... I propose the following: The Stormfather's Bondsmith - provide power and boost radiant abilities, so support by temporarily strengthening allies The Sibling's Bondsmith - suppress enemy powers and drain their strength, so support by temporarily weakening enemies The Nightwatcher's Bondsmith - "change" the powers of others, or expand their abilities in new ways, so support by temporarily altering allies and possibly enemies Does this seem like a potential set of differences that makes sense?

Condensation: Sus. Two people are tunneling on her, and two people couldn't both be wrong. 8. Elkanah / Burnt: Sus. That inactivity must have been just a mask for a devious core. 9. 10. So, Brandon has said that for this book Rysn's Interlude is from a different viewpoint, is very different and won't spoil the novel but it would be better to have read it. Relevant WoBs on the matter spoilered for leanght: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/430/#e13976 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/438/#e14257 With this information I believe that we will have a Chiri-Chiri Interlude. There's no direct evidence for this but I think it makes sense. We know it won't be from Rysn's PoV, but it will still feel like Rysn's Interlude and not some other charachter related to her( like Vstim or someone from her ship) Also we learn in Dawnshard that larkins/lanceryns were the ancient guardians. This makes me think that Chiri-Chiri is much more sentient that what I initially suppoused or even Rysn thinks. It would be Brandon's MO to surprise us with her PoV. Tl;dr Get ready to get inside the mind of a larkin I would really like this theory to come true( Chiri-Chiri fan over here), but if someone else has another idea for the PoV on Rysn's RoW Interlude I would love to hear it.

  13. Been debating this all week. Signing up as Vigor, a magical fae from another world. Inquisitors sent to investigate a meteor crash site at the outskirts of Luthadel discovered the animated suit of armor in a molten crater. Upon being captured and brought to the Lord Ruler in Kredik Shaw, the friendly giant reluctantly agreed to help end the Imperium's schism in exchange for passage through Scadrial's perpendicularity. He would do nearly anything to return home and reunite with his Seer.

  15. Yes, brandon does love his arranged marriages trope. There's a great Shardcast where I think Grey talks about these relationships a lot. I highly recommend the entire episode. It's really even-handed. I think he's grown in his ability to write nuanced relationships as he's matured himself, and the Navani/Dalinar one is demonstrative of this. Let's see what else comes out of SA. But I have to say, I have a different feel for the Laral/Roshone marriage. I do not at aall see him framing it as "positive". I think everything we have seen demonstrates that our original squeamish read of it is spot on. Rather, I think it's less "see, everything is great" and more a testament of Laral's strength and resilience. It's more about her autonomy and story than her relationship with Roshone. People choose money and security and power all the time, and women no less than men do. Laral made that choice and was content with it, making the best of it. I think it's another demonstration of allowing women some more nuance in their relationships. I read a lot of regency romance (yes, my entire personality is basically fantasy and Jane Austen fan fiction lol), and arranged marriages are common. Not in the "you MUST marry this person or else" way, but the "marriage is a contract between families, so you owe it to your family to at least consider it." And Jane Austen's entire social commentary from that time was how few options for middle class and upper class women to have stability and freedom. I think that's what we see in SA quite a bit. I do look forward to the story of how Kal's parents got together though. Could be an interesting counterpoint.

  17. Agreed - if Lirin does become a healing Radiant it's definitely Truthwatcher. He's not the touchy-feely "listen to the forgotten" type. If someone comes to him with an emotional hurt he's going to be more like, "Get over it kid, you survived! Next!!!"

  19. Its certainly one option, although I would argue that pShallan is the child persona. She tends to be the most "silly" of the three, and is the least inclined to face difficult situations. She is the personality that has changed the least since the books started and she passes many of her "adult" responsibilities to Veil and Radiant. For example, she passes the HighPrincess duties to Radiant and most of the Ghostblood stuff to Veil. In contrast, pShallan is the one that goes back to her brothers (she even talks about wanting to run to Adolin because she doesn't like being the adult in the room). She also is the one who wants "adult" approval from Mraize as a father figure. I would argue that Formless is the protector personality. It may be non-verbal or have limited vocabulary. It may be masculine. I believe it is the primal drive to survive and is only allowed out when all other coping mechanisms (which have been divided between the alters) have failed. The alters fear it because it is instinctive rather than logical and it cannot be reasoned with. It also may be the alter that killed her mother, and killed Tyn, suggesting it is capable of very extreme acts . Arguably, it may have been bleeding through when Shallan killed her father *if* we assume that her feeling "cold" (usually during very stressful moments) is a sense phenomenon of Formless stirring (eg like a psychic sensation she describes as cold because she has no better mental descriptor of losing control over it). She needs this part of her personality - we all have it, but it is scary to her because it lacks the context of the rest of her personality. It is a useful part of her personality because it is her protector. If we assume it is a protector personality, then it makes sense that she would fear it, I am less certain that she would fear it if it were a child persona, even with the memories being a problem. She could have attached those memories to Formless if it was the only one among them able to contain those memories because it has lower intelligence/understading.

  20. After seeing this thread I remembered something that happened in Oathbringer chapter 68. That was the one where Hoid had that long talk with Shallan in the Kholinar tavern. Remember how the bartender guy brought them both out some food? The food was described to be a cremling. Hoid didn't eat it, which was stressed as a point a lot more than it seemed like it needed to be. The book says that Hoid didn't even seem interested in the food, and waved off any questions about why he wasn't eating. I... think I know why now.

  22. Luthadel was not a very nice place to dwell in during the twilight hours. Homeless skaa hid in alleyways, the mist roamed the darker areas of the streets, and ash mixed with dust to blow throughout the city. The red ethereal glow of the sun as it sank made the atmosphere of the streets dark and dim. In all this, the Inquisitor watched. The Inquisitor was the perfect servant: Threatening. Imposing. Perfectly obedient. The Lord Ruler was very pleased in his creations, especially the Inquisitors. And this Inquisitor was on a specific mission. He had been told of the situation. A skaa had rebelled in the fields, fleeing from his working duty and running. He had switly been caught by the Lord Ruler’s mercenaries. The Final Empire could have no deserters. The skaa had refused to work. And so the perfect intimidation was sent forth: The Inquisitor. Normally a simple thing such as a stubborn skaa wouldn’t cause the Lord Ruler to take such measures, but the matter was… unique tonight. The Inquisitor approached the field he had been designated to go, and entered a small structure set up to the side, where the skaa was being kept. The Inquisitor had hoped to find the skaa alone and secure, but instead found the skaa- who was tied securely around a chair- surrounded by Obligators. Three of them. As expected. The Inquisitor growled, a low sound in his throat. The Obligators were the Lord Ruler’s lesser servants, those not created with power or metal, but purley human. They were inferior and believed themselves to be superior, a trait that was more than irritating. The lead Obligator smiled. “Greetings, O Spiked One.” The title sounded mocking coming from the Obligator’s mouth. “Were you coming to apprehend the prisoner? As you can see, the Canton of Orthodoxy has already taken care of the situation. You may depart.” The Obligator nearly smirked, and the Inquisitor grew more vapid with every word, though he had been warned of the possibility. The Inquisitor spoke in his gravely scratchy voice. “I can see that, Obligator. I will be on my way.” The Inquisitor turned, but reached in his cloak and grasped the handles of two glass daggers. As he exited the building, he casually flicked his hand backwards and flung the weapons. He didn’t need to look back to know their marks. One flew straight towards the lead Obligator and sunk true, piercing his heart and killing him instantly. The other stabbed straight through the skaa rebel’s eye. After all, the Final Empire could have no deserters. The other two Obligators present gasped at the sudden appearance of death in the small room, and quickly stood to flee, surly to inform the other Canton members of the occurrence. But that was perfectly fine. The Inquisitors and Obligators had never been friends, and their struggle for ultimate control over the doings of the Imperium had never been more prevalent. It had only been a matter of time before the struggle broke into something more. That time was now. The Inquisitor smiled, and whispered to himself, “Let the war begin.” He pushed a coin onto the ground and flung himself up into the night, up towards the spindly towers of Kredik Shaw. 24. Beware, Wax & Wayne (particularly Bands of Mourning) spoilers below. As I reread the passage where Rysn interacts with the mural/Dawnshard, I couldn't shake the sense that we'd read about something similar before. Near the beginning of Bands of Mourning, we learn that a kandra named ReLuur had been searching for the mythical bands and returned to Elendel with a number of pictures documenting his search. Among the images were the following: A mural depicting a room with a central dais. On the dais is a pedestal, and set upon the pedestal was a pair of bracers made of delicate, curling metal, shaped in spirals (a depiction of what they thought were the Bands of Mourning) A picture of a large metal plate set into a wall and inscribed with a strange script. Neither Wax nor any of the kandra present recognize the script Another shot of the strange language A picture of a statue that resembled the Lord Ruler, bearing a long spear Another shot of the mural, more detailed, which depicted bracers with many different metals twining together Another image, of a different mural, depicting a man standing atop a peak, hands raised above him and a glowing spear hovering there, just beyond his touch. A corpse slumped at his feet. The face of the man in the mosaic had eyes upturned and lips parted as if in awe at what he held. He wore the bracers on his arms. We learn toward the end of the book that the pictures were taken at the Sovereign's Temple. Wax sees the same murals and the statue. (There's no mention in the later scene of whether the metal plate is also present, but it seems a fairly safe assumption). What's more we learn some new information about the pedestal in the temple - specifically that it features, prominently, the colors red and gold. The temple also features a number of booby traps and decoys. We learn that the real Bands of Mourning are not the bracers but a spearhead hidden in the statute's spear. And it is at least heavily implied that the mural depicting a person is likely Kelsier, and not the Lord Ruler. So if you're playing Dawnshard connections bingo we've got: fancy murals located in hard-to-reach places featuring the colors red and gold; protected by decoys and booby traps; featuring strange languages not recognized by our main characters; hidden powerful magic objects; and murals that are associated with characters who have heard commands in their minds (CHANGE for Rysn, and SURVIVE for Kelsier) Could be nothing. But it's Brandon so it could also be something. Is this perhaps evidence that our old pal Kel has maybe been involved with a Dawnshard at some point as well? Lastly, not sure how this fits in, if at all, but there was another prominent shout-out to the red/gold color scheme back in Alloy of Law. Here's the scene in the epilogue when Miles is executed: Anyway, just wanted to put this out there because it seems like a significant number of similarities.

  25. Hi everyone! Eric with 17th Shard here, and I'm here to talk to you about Rhythm of War, by Brandon Sanderson, the fourth novel in The Stormlight Archive. This review is completely spoiler free! There will be no spoilers for the preview chapters, or other cosmere stuff, so if you haven't read anything about Rhythm of War, this won't have any information other than some non-spoilery info Brandon has discussed about the structure of the book. Of course, all of us at 17th Shard are mega-fans, so you can take us with a grain of salt that, yeah, we really like Brandon books and his writing style. But if we didn't like a thing, we'd tell you, and that'd hold some weight. So, in this review, these are my opinions here, but you'll hear from all our other staff members about the book soon enough, too! If you'd prefer to watch a video instead, check out our video review! So let's talk about Rhythm of War! This book is the longest of the Stormlight books, even longer than Oathbringer! Overall, this works really well. I didn't think Oathbringer had fluff, but this book is even leaner. It's just that the world of Roshar is so big, and the number of characters is so big, that there's a lot to do in this. Plus, stuff happens! A lot of stuff happens in this book, and it will really surprise you in many ways. Rhythm of War has some absolutely killer moments. There will be joy. There will be a lot of pain and suffering, too. I think a lot of people will tear up on more than a few occasions. Character Character is a massive focus in Rhythm of War, moreso than Words of Radiance and Oathbringer. This book is a character study for several of our characters, and the character moments are the best moments in the entire novel. Mental health and struggling with mental health takes center stage in the book, and it personally affected me more than it has in the series. As someone who struggles with depression, this book spoke to me fantastically. Now, this might be controversial in the book, because the mental health stuff could be hard to read for some. It gets deep, and it gets dark, darker than Brandon has taken characters before. That might turn you off of the book. And there may be readers who don't find characters dealing with their mental health to be important, and yeah, this book might not be for you. I think it was done really well, I think it really spoke to me, and I think mental health is always a good thing to thoroughly explore in books to continue to destigmatize it. There are tons of characters in The Stormlight Archive, and as always, Brandon has to juggle a lot of different characters and plotlines. I've always felt Brandon deals with this well, with some characters getting less in some books but more in the next, and that continues in Rhythm of War. It focuses on the right characters for the book, but we still see from all of our main gang of protagonists, and they are all important. There is a main character who gets less viewpoints than others, but there is another character who really comes into their own here, which was lovely. There are new characters, too. One new character is one I can't wait to talk to you about, because they really steal the show. We also see more viewpoints of characters we didn't see as much as we should have before, and it's lovely to see more from these more minor characters be fleshed out. Plot I can't really tell you too much about the plot, honestly. But this book doesn't go where you'd expect. After Oathbringer I didn't really know where the story would go, but... I didn't quite expect this, I don't think you'll expect it either! It is really cool and awesome, as you'd expect from Brandon. There are three groups of characters and after Part One they do split up. Some of these interweave a bit, others don't. It's more that Way of Kings vibe, where in that book, we had Shallan in Parts One and Three and Dalinar/Adolin in Parts Two and Four. Rhythm of War is like that in many way with its three groups, and only one of the groups is in all five parts, with the other two alternating after Part One. But each plotline is engaging, and they all get extremely intense. This book will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat. Now, The Way of Kings is not my favorite Stormlight book. Words of Radiance and Oathbringer had plot structures I more preferred, and the endings of those books, where absolutely everything comes together, man... that just really speaks to me, and I love that so much. Rhythm of War has a great Brandon Avalanche. The highs are REALLY high, but it's not going to be like the ending of Oathbringer where everything comes together. So I liked the ending less so than Words of Radiance and Oathbringer, but I know there are people who thought this was the best Stormlight book, with the best ending. I think it may come down to how character focused you are. I'm more plot based, so I liked it a bit less, but I think this structure is done better than it was in The Way of Kings. There's a ton of awesome here and it's really cool. I quite enjoyed the plot and the ending, it's just the different plot structure Brandon went for here was not as in line to my personal preference. You may well be different! I do want to say, though, that where the book is meant to have a big impact, Rhythm of War absolutely executes incredibly. There was a moment that confirmed something I figured, but the way it was portrayed makes it easily one of the best and memorable scenes in the book. When there's suffering, you feel it, and when there's a "hell yeah" moment, it's just the best. Probably one of the weaker parts is the flashbacks. There are both Eshonai and Venli flashbacks, and it's cool, but it's nothing as impactful as Dalinar's flashbacks were. But I mean, Dalinar's were so good and so impactful for the main story, and we just can't have every flashback sequence be as awesome as those. But if I had to get a criticism, it may be these flashbacks. They are fine, but not incredible. This book has a one year time jump from the end of Oathbringer, which is different for the series thus far. All the other books have happened immediately after the previous novel. So how'd this go with this one? The time jump worked pretty well for me. I felt like we've gotten enough hints of what happened in the interim that it was fine. The time jump allowed the world and characters to progress, and sets the stage for the real action that's happening in this book, and I think made the plot better. Lore and Worldbuilding Let's talk about the lore and worldbuilding of the book. Every Stormlight book has tons of worldbuilding. Remember Oathbringer, where it widened the world so much? Rhythm of War expands things way further than I ever could have imagined. I don't think you'll expect where the book ends up, because some of the things we learn are so crazy, I don't know how you'd guess them. The door is open for so many more things by the end of this book. It's insane. We are all going to have so much to talk about once you're all done with this. I didn't think a Stormlight book could expand the world more than Oathbringer did, but this one sure as storms does. The connections to the greater cosmere increase in this book, even more than Oathbringer had. This might be controversial. Brandon has said in some comments on the Part One chapters (which you can read for free) that Brandon is phasing things more to "things are intersecting more in the cosmere" now, which is a bit different than how he's done things before. It's hard for me to comment on this effectively, because I am so deep into the cosmere books, but I don't think references to other cosmere books ruin your enjoyment of Stormlight if you are a Stormlight-only reader. It's more, "hey, there are some things that are mysteries in world to our characters, but you can learn more by reading some other books if you want." It is less subtle here, so I do think pretty soon Stormlight-only readers may want to start reading the other books. That said, if you're already deep in the cosmere, all of this is JUICY! It is so, so good. Final Thoughts Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There are some of the best moments in the series here. Its very character based, but also expands on the lore a lot. It's just for me, I like the ending of Oathbringer so much, and though the Sanderlanche is awesome as you'd expect, I just like the Oathbringer and Words of Radiance style of book more. So for me, Rhythm of War is not my favorite Stormlight book, but I think it's really excellent! I imagine this will be a lot of people's favorite, of the four books. Maybe the worst part of the book is just the wait till book five. If you didn't know, The Stormlight Archive is ten books but split into two five book arcs, and Brandon has always said book five will have a big climax for our cast of the first half. After Rhythm of War, yeah, I really need book five now, please! But of course, I want book five to be as good as can be, and I can only imagine what it's like going through this massive 470k book for several drafts. I understand Brandon needs a bit of a break from Stormlight, and I do want Skyward sequel and that final Wax and Wayne book. So I'll wait! This book has tons to tide people over to through the wait for book five. And for the cosmere fandom, there's going to be plenty to talk about. We'll definitely have spoilery reactions on our podcast, Shardcast, and I can't wait to talk to you about it all!

  26. I just want to raise awareness to the celebrities that have died this year, and to remember and honor them. 2020 has been a terrible year, and many people have died. Alex Trebek-Jeopardy Host. He died of cancer. Elsa Raven-Actress in Titanic and Back to the Future. Eddie Van Halen-Guitarist, he died of cancer. Chadwick Boseman-Actor in Black panther. He also died of cancer. Ruth Bader Ginsburg-Supreme Court Justice. She died of cancer. Kobe Bryant-NBA star. These are just a few of many, many Celebrities that have died in 2020 alone. We should also remember everyone who has been killed fighting cancer. And the Covid-nurses and doctors. Thank you so much for everything you have done for this country. You are amazing. They finish up the snacks with a flourish. "When was the meeting? With all the dif Epics? Cuz that's what I was doing last, and I probs had some twizzlers or some nonsense like that on me then. Then things were like, boom, bam, bleh and bleh and bam again, and then boooooom. So now I'm here."

  29. I really enjoyed Rysn's development in this book. I know she doesn't get a really big arc, but still I think it was pretty cool. The thing I appreciated the most was Brandon writing ways in which characters are really important and accomplish great things whithout having to be super powerfull fighters. Usually in fantasy we see the spotlight taken by great warrior heroes, fighters, rogues... In this book we got to see Rysn saving the day by being really intelligent and demonstrating a great level of empathy and understanding. Neither a big fight for climax, nor great explosions of power which would make the problems go away... Narratively, a great way to keep the sleepless as big of a thread as they are (if you have them against you), and making a damn good resolution on the end! I would like to hear your opinions on this same topic, since it was what I most enjoyed from the novella (well, also getting to know more about dawnshards and the shattering, of course, but there will be enough discussions on these matters anyway)

  32. I don't think it can be Nikli (or the dawnshard) because either of those *would* spoil dawnshard, and specifically Nikli's would probably be too disconnected from Rysn to feel like a Rysn interlude like Brandon says it'll still be. I didn't think of it before, but I think OP is correct. After reading dawnshard, it's pretty obvious the larkin/lanceryn were a lot more intelligent than would be apparent from an animal, however if you think about the rest of Roshar, it's not really that abnormal. For example, Ryshadium are considered a lot more intelligent than normal horses. Even the reshi moving island greatshells (forget the name) have cognition, even in Dawnshard it provides the information to Rysn to visit aimia, indicating it is sentient and aware of abstracts. We even see it a bit with the chasmfiend hunting kaladin and shallan, where it pulls back to wait for them to exit the crevice to ambush them, though this is actually bit of a poor example. At any rate, the thing in common with all of these is their ability/need to bond spren to sustain their lifecycle. The greatshells all bond spren to sustain themselves at their immense size, even ryshadium are bonded to a spren and I believe it is a factor in their intelligence, so it's just further evidence that larkin are (probably) intelligent species as well.

  33. It was wise of Brandon to pander to the "my girlfriend who appears childlike is in fact a 5000 year old vampire spren" community.

  35. When you're late to online class because you stayed up till 1 am reading Dawnshard. I'm only like 60% through the book because I have to do my homework every day before I can read, but I legit panicked this morning because I accidentally slept in and missed like 30 minutes of math class I feel like this is incredibly ironic because Monday this week I also posted here saying that my mom was mad at me because I planned to read Dawnshard at 1 am on a school night. I woke up on time on Tuesday... but today didn't work as well.

  39. Sigzil is mentioned, along with Kaladin and Teft, as having said the traditional "I legit hate this person" form of the Third Oath, and I wonder who exactly aroused his ire. "Storm it, I gave them the Voidbringer Attack Evacuation Forms, not a single one of them is in formation, they're not even fully packed-- serve them right if I just left them there for the Fused... *sigh* No, I must rescue even those who didn't bother to read Section 32(b)..." *icy glyphs* THESE WORDS ARE ACCEPTED.

  40. To be fair, life kinda sucks for everyone in SA. lol They're all suffering. Pool Kal just has clinical depression on top of the whole apocalypse thing. ;-) But I think Moash won't kill his parent(s)--my pie in the sky guess is that Kal will swear his 4th ideal when he accepts his father's choice to sacrifice himself for his family, but that his mother and his brother survive and then as Moash turns to Kal, his plate will protect him. It's possible that Brandon will grant Kal a reprieve by making Lirin an edgedancer or some such, paralleling the major "failure" Kal feels by seeing Elhokar murdered as he was speaking the first ideal, by letting Lirin finish it and survive.

  42. If I’m honest, I saw the Chouta stand infiltration from a mile away. The fact that the Fused were going to get into Urithiru by hiding in Chouta stands was pretty well foreshadowed in the previews. I was not expecting the tax evasion plot line though, and the redemption of Leshwi and Lezian into happy Chouta salespeople. Good subversion from Brandon, I think. What were y’all’s thoughts on that?

  43. PLEASE NO ROW SPOILERS TLDR; The Sleepless caused the Scouring to protect the Dawnshard. Dawnshard revealed many things about topics long debated. But one event that I thought would get explained to us in this book but wasn’t stands out to me. The Scouring of Aimia. I thought we would get answers as to who/what caused the event that left the islands of Aimia lifeless. The only nugget of information we get on the event is a story told by Nikli while he is still hiding his true nature. So this whole story told by Nikli has to be taken with a grain of salt as at the time he was lying to Rysn about his true nature, but I feel in this instance he has no reason to lie, and the emotion he shows at recounting the story supports that. My theory is that it wasn’t invaders or treasure hunters who destroyed the fabrials that supported life on Aimia, but the Sleepless themselves. It is quite clear that they will go to extreme lengths to protect the Dawnshard. I believe that at some point (personally I think this was when the Larkin died out and the sleepless took over protection of the Dawnshard) they decided that a whole population of people living on the island above the Dawnshard was too much of a risk, so they forced the inhabitants off the island by sabotaging the fabrials. I also think that maybe the sleepless spread rumours of a terrible ‘Scouring’ to make the event sound a lot more catastrophic than it was to further keep people away from the place. Nikli’s strong emotion when talking about it could be because he is sad about what happened there, or it could be similar to Taravangian’s sorrow whenever he speaks of the terrible things he has done. Maybe the Sleepless also encouraged attacks on Aimia to further isolate the place and scatter the populace? Or maybe they drew the attackers there by accident? Or maybe those are lies to augment the tragedy myth surrounding the place? I am not sure. Obviously this theory has lots of holes (most of the rest of Nikli’s story doesn’t really line up with this but as I said, he isn’t really the most trustworthy of characters at that point) but it was just something I was thinking about so I thought I would open it up for discussion. Thanks for reading. And please don’t put any RoW spoilers in the replies, I haven’t read the previews.

  45. Well since my pm habits are coming up... Pms! Silber- asked who they would kill tonight if they could choose- No response Supreme- asked their thoughts on Elkanah - No response Wind- Asked how they felt about the HI reveal of mist - No response Vapor- asked about a couple people. Response concerning Connie Danex- Asked about thoughts on Elk and who they thought elims would get rid of - Responses gotten Whysper- talked about the lower actives and more. Incorrect guesses were made. Whysper fun to talk to- highly recommended Araris- asked about suspicions and thoughts on particular players as well as a more detailed explanation as why I had initial sus. I think they’re fine now. Some good responses- also recommend as good conversation Mist- Oh boy this was a fun one. Asked bout what they've been up to. TJ- Sigh. Rip. I asked their thoughts on elk. On elim roles they had a theory they thought it was possible the surgebinder might be elim as the other was village. Chatted about whysper a little too. TJ was paranoid of whysper but that was because he did trust her. Also was sure that there likely was an evil hemalurgist when I brought that up. Thinks we’re close to LyLo. As far as actual suspicions he was feeling clueless. The people who talk seem trustworthy and those who don’t there's nothing to go off of. Connie- Asked about their sus on Vapor, had some conversation, indeed did say what they said I did, Asked about hemalurgisty stuffs.- very cautious, understandably, but plenty responses Books- asked who they’d kill if they had a free kill- they voted for two quieter players cause of the inactive elim theory. So yeah, the thing I asked most often was what people thought of Elk- was trying to get an idea of where elk sat with people. Pinch-hitting is a challenge y'all. I'm still trying to work out some things. I asked about the talky players the post- I always tend to be paranoid of the talky trusted folks. Been bitten by a wolf in sheeps clothing too many times. So TJ was one of the people I brought up a number of times. By the end of the night, I was assured that I was really just being paranoid. So. It sucks that they did get killed. Bleh especially with the timing of some of my conversations. Part of me worries about the conversation with danex around that he did believe that TJ would be someone worth targeting. (this is a question I use to get an idea of what people think is and isn't important, its also just an easy thing to try get a response to-a lot of these questions are more just easy little things people are fine responding to. The first cycle of all the pms is more testing the water to see who does and doesn't respond) Feel free to ask me any more questions. Obviously, this is a vague summary not a detailed explanation of everything I said to people. PM safety and all that. Privacy. Need to know basis stuffs.

  48. I got it! Everyone sends an envelope with a death hornet to the person they vote on. The death hornet's have a hive mind, and will only attack the person they have the surest victory against, which will be the person with the most mailed death hornets. Make sure you include that in the writeup, Mat.
