  1. Now all we have to do is get some cosmere mangas or light novels written, and then we’ll get our anime . In all seriousness, Japan’s entertainment industry is too insular for anything like this to happen. The success of webtoon anime adaptations like Tower of God could pave the way for an anime industry that draws more on foreign stories, but it could still be decades before western fiction begins to merge with Japan’s fiction. We can always wish though.

  2. As a Returned, Blushweaver is very different from regular beings. Physically, Returned are stronger, faster, and embody physical perfection. Because of her divine status, Blushweaver is much more than a regular human. She is godlike, and that’s how people treat her. Consequently, her perspective is also very different from normal beings. To her, humans are average, and rarely deserve special attention. Perhaps Elhokar can be forceful and adept sometimes. Perhaps he is very similar to Lightsong in certain ways. But there’s one thing he lacks: He’s not a Returned. To Blushweaver, Elhokar doesn’t deserve any kind of attention or help, even if he is a king. In Warbreaker, she treats Siri with little respect, even before Siri and Lightsong become friends. This shows that she has little to no regard for royalty. For all she cares, Elhokar is a toy and a tool to get what she wants. Even if they did fall in love, their ways are too different to make either happy. Suppose they did like each other. Suppose, something outrageous happens and they completely fall in love. There are two options now: Elhokar can come to live in the Court of Gods, or Blushweaver can come live in Alethkar. Elhokar can show strength sometimes, but deep down he has an intense paranoi that would only increase in a place like the Court of Gods. Being somewhere where he is regarded as puny, among gods who could squish him if they wanted, would dramatically increase his fear. He would never be able to shake this intense anxiety, and as a result he would never be able to really be happy. In Blushweaver’s case, living anywhere else would be dull, boring, and not worth her time. In the Court of Gods, she can eat anything she wants, do anything she wants, and all whenever she wants it. Even if Elhokar had enough time and resources to find a way for her to stay alive on Roshar, the Alethi Court would be nothing like how she is used to living. Elhokar would likely give her whatever she wants, but the speed, the ease in which she gets it could never match the Court of Gods. And, the way she is treated would drastically change. She would be revered as a queen, but not a god. The Alethi have their own religion, completely separate from what Blushweaver is used to. Maybe she would be astounding. Maybe she would seem divine. But to them, she’s still no god. Even if she loved Elhokar, she would never tolerate living in this way. So, even if Blushweaver somehow went against her nature, her upbringing, and everything she has learned and fell for Elhokar, being with him still wouldn’t make her happy. Elhokar could very likely fall in love with her, but at what cost? Neither are alike enough to have a normal, healthy relationship, and trying to live in the other’s situation would only make their own worse. In conclusion, Blushweaver and Elhokar could never be able to have lasting happiness together.

  3. Elhokar can be forceful if he chooses to be. We see him changing to be more forceful with Dalinar when he chooses to take his expedition. Blushweaver would find him interesting, as I believe part of the reason she was attracted to Lightsong was the fact that he wasn’t great at politics at the beginning, yet had to learn fast. Elhokar would certainly be attracted to Blushweaver because of her ambition and form, as she is a beautiful woman. If Blushweaver had to leave the Court of the Gods, I do believe that Elhokar would use all the researchers he has at his disposal to find a way to keep her alive and eventually discover that he can use Stormlight to help her. Blushweaver would certainly be a great match for the Alethi court, and she could help guide Elhokar through it until he learns his way. He wouldn’t be content with his wife leading everything, as it isn’t the Alethi way, so he would try to learn his way around politics by watching her. I believe Blushweaver finds change interesting and attracting, and Elhokar would certainly be in the process of change. Let's go @Karger! Sorry I wasn’t on yesterday. Storms, I love debating.

  4. I have been thinking a lot recently about the future of the Cosmere, 20-30 or so real-life years from now when we are deep into Era 4 Mistborn, Space Age Cosmere type stuff. The most interesting thing to me being, what are some of the future implications of the magic that we see right now, and how will the magic / tech we see right now evolve in the future? Allow me to explain. - The Ones Above from Sixth of the Dusk as an example of an obscured technology/application of magic. In Sixth, the Ones Above traveled to the planet through interstellar space - this is already unusual for the Cosmere as we know it, as far as worldhopping goes. We then see this unidentified civilization or group use technology to achieve magic-centric results (In this case, a translation device that can also search for Aviar.) -This is it could be a variety of planets - For example, this could be fabrial technology from Roshar, or an evolution of the medallion tech from Scadrial, or it could be a pure technology invention from somewhere like Taldain. ([1] [2]) What we do know, is that the Ones Above are in fact a group we have met before. ([1] [2] [3]) - Breaths from Nalthis can be used to give objects sentience, even objects that were never alive in the first place (the classic example of Nightblood, a Type IV Awakened entity.) This could, as others have postulated, lead to the creation of a computer that is truly alive. How would an Awakened computer differ from an AI construct, physically, spiritually, and in the cognitive realm? - Stormlight Archive occurs relatively early in the timeline of the Cosmere, and we know from this wob that "It's technically possible to make [shardblades] from other magic systems). We have demonstrable evidence of this in the case of the shardblades of Nalthian origin, but this is a good indication of other things as well. Could a Seon, perhaps, become a shardblade? (Hint: the answer appears to be yes (wob)). - We haven't even started on the Sleepless, who are "not confined to Roshar" ([1] [2]) and "will have a major role in Era 4" (3). My theory for them is that the Sleepless will be used as some sort of instantaneous communication network in the physical realm, for spaceships and such. If that theory holds true, I think it lends support that the Ones Above are, in fact, Rosharan. So, I want to hear your theories on what seemingly innocuous thing in the Cosmere will have bigger implications in the Space Age Era. Put on your aluminum foil hat and just start typing. Thanks for reading!

  5. Hey everyone, I’ve been visiting the forums here for several years but I just decided to sign up and try to be active in the community that has formed around my favorite author. I started into the cosmere with the mistborn series and have sense devoured everything Brandon has written, reading everything several times actually. My favorite book though is The Way Of Kings, though I really enjoy Mistborn series two as well, rereading those right now actually. Once those are done I’m going back through the stormlight archive in preparation for November!

  6. Honestly, at the rate the CGI is improving, we probably only need to wait 10 years for a "live action" version of the Cosmere that doesn't even require real actors. All they need is Andy Serkis in a mocap suit playing all of the characters himself. On the animated front, I've never liked Japanese animation. Something about it just doesn't work for me. If they wanted to try something like the Batman animated movies, I would be on board (though I would still prefer live), but I don't wanna see Vin with little hearts floating out of her eyes when she looks at Elend.

  7. We know that Oathgates of Shinovar doesn't come up on a map. It could mean the Shin places and even capital of the country are kept out of the records intentionally. Or it could be that they don't have a standing fixed Oathgate. We know Oathgate Sprens are contained in gemstones. So the Shin may be using the gemstones to construct the Oathgate at convenience . Maybe they are a nomadic people. We know that before Szeth was declared Truthless they asked the "Spirit of Stones". That could be the Oathgate spren. Who confirmed Radiants are not back in Urithiru as their sibling "Sibling" ( Spren of Stone) is still sleeping. If the Shin stones are asked even now, they might still say Knight Radiants are not back as the Sibling is still slumbering. This could be the reason they refuse to join the Coalition of Dalinar. So physically going there might be the key. The Shin seeing a Radiant. Which Szeth can deliver for Dalinar. This is more proof of Sibling being 'siblings among gemstones of Oathgates and Urithiru'.

  9. Here comes Lord Silberfarben. Look at him, walking in the street as if it will somehow raise and protect him from all dangers. Don't let their name fool you, Lord is not a title but their first name, meaning 'naive' in some lost language. No one knows if the name somehow affected him magically, as all names have meanings, or if simply other people's expectations have defined his life. Whichever one, he stands at the entrance to the mighty University and wills its gates to open for him. of course, they don't, even the university can't afford to have self-opening doors. He does not break his nonchalance and pushes the wooden doors wide open. And of course, since the university does not have one gate, but many leading into different buildings, he stumbles into the archives. "Hmm," He says as he looks around, "I want to sign up for learning in this fine academy! Where do I do that?"

  10. This story has been bouncing around as my mind since a Discord discussion on the motivations of Ati and Leras in taking up the shards they did. Since we don't know much about their original ascensions, I had to take some creative license, but I hope you guys enjoy. "I will take Ruin." The setting sun glinted in Ati's red hair. "Perhaps I can contain it's power, at least for a time, and prevent its destructive potential from being realized." The others remained silent as Ati stepped forward, hands outstretched to take in the power. Leras felt unable to speak, paralyzed, though his heart was racing in his chest. This is happening too quickly. Some of the others were already gone, racing off into the Cosmere with their newfound divinity, no doubt setting out to find a position of advantage from which to fortify themselves from attack by the others. No, no, no. This can't be happening. Ati was the best of them. His kindness and laughter had saved Leras in his darkest moments. This was not supposed to be that way. He could see the logic in Ati's sacrifice, of course. Though Uli Da, Rayse, and Bavadin had already departed with their shards moments before, and those remaining would count themselves lucky that none of them had taken Ruin as their own, Leras was not sure who he would trust with that kind of power. Edgli, cautious as ever, continued to watch, no doubt calculating which of the sixteen was most likely to renege on their pact the quickest. The logic did not make it any easier to accept that Ati the person was gone, and what remained of him would live the rest of his eons of existence in a constant struggle to contain the power he had claimed. I have to do something. Leras's eyes darted between the impassive faces of his remaining companions. Why weren't any of them doing something to stop this? They don't care. All they see is their own chance to ascend; their own piece of godhood. I have to protect him. Please, Ati, don't leave me. "Chin up, Leras," Ati smiled, meeting Leras's eyes as the black mist continued to wind its way around his body. "Surely there are worse things to fear than becoming a dark god of destruction." As he finished speaking, Ati's form seemed to evaporate as it was consumed by the black mist. His human self was burned away by the god-like power he now held, leaving only divinity behind. "ATI!!!!" Leras stumbled forward into the space Ati had occupied only moments before. A light sprung up, seemingly in response to his shout. It was a white mist, contrasting the black one that had consumed Ati. In horror, Leras watched as the mists began to envelop him. His entire body began to burn as if his veins were being set alight beneath his skin. A thousand pleasures and pains assaulted him at once, and his back arched in simultaneous torment and ecstasy as the power consumed him. I will save Ati. I will Preserve him. As his body dissolved, Leras shot off, knowing Ati would have tried to get as far as possible to avoid causing any unintended harm. Already, he could feel his mind expanding much as his body had. Time and space seemed to lose meaning. He reached out into the beyond, grasping at millions of possible futures, understanding them in an instant. Why am I chasing him? Leras pushed forward, locating the futures in which he and Ati were together, and willed himself to that place, passing over whole solar systems in an instant. "Leras? What are you doing here? My power it. . . it burns. You . . ." Leras received the impression of Ati, as he remembered him, reaching out with a hand. Leras reached out his own power eagerly, seeking to envelop Ati in his embrace. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH" They screamed in unison, and the echoes of their cries seemed to reverberate through the very fabric of the Cosmere. Leras recoiled from Ati, slowly regaining his senses as the intense pain faded. "What, what was that?" "I don't know." Leras examined his own power more closely. Mingling his power with Ati's had felt explosive, like a volcano erupting under a frozen lake. Despite the pain of the experience, part of Leras seemed to call out to record it perfectly in his memory, to preserve it for all time. Preservation. It sensed my desire to preserve Ati, and accepted me as its Vessel. "Our powers, it appears, are in conflict. Ruin and Preservation: we are opposites. Our powers will not mingle easily. " "Yes." Leras could sense, rather than hear, the hesitation in Ati's voice as he considered the new knowledge. Leras mentally cursed Adonalsium. How was it that he had ended up with the one Shard that would prevent him from remaining close to Ati? Already he could feel himself drifting away from Ati, pulled by his own power away from its opposite. No! Desperate, Leras again reached into the beyond, searching for a future in which he and Ati could remain together. His power seemed to navigate through the unmeasurable expanse of possibility easily, appearing eager to find futures where current circumstances were preserved. "Leras?" "Got it! Our powers may not mingle easily, but we can use them together. I've seen it. Ati, together, we can create anything. We could form entire worlds out of the abyss if we wanted." As he spoke, Leras felt his power seeming shrink into itself, as if resiling from the thought of so much change. "Neither of us can alone, of course, but together. . ." "No, Leras. I have made up my mind. We must abide by our pact, remember? I will find some dark corner of the Cosmere, and find a way to keep myself there, so that my power cannot harm anyone." "But you don't have to only destroy Ati, together we can create." "Leras, this is my burden to bear. Leave, and find a planet to protect. If we do as you say, your plan will only lead to the destruction of all we have made, and likely you as well." Unbidden, a vision of the future Ati spoke of came into view, a world consumed by fire and ash. And yet, that was not all Leras saw. I can preserve them. "Ati, friend, if you must destroy one day, would it not be better to ruin something we ourselves have created? That way, the rest of the Cosmere may be preserved. Our powers will counteract each other for a time, and perhaps delay the events you fear." Or prevent them completely. Though the thought of misleading Ati twisted his heart, the power Leras held seemed to pulse eagerly at the thought of having an entire world to preserve against destruction. "Leras. . . I can't. I cannot bear the thought of killing you. I will only ask once more. Leave this place. If I destroy you I may never forgive myself." If you destroy at all, you will never forgive yourself. And I would rather see the Cosmere consumed by your power then spend eons apart from you. "I am resolute, Ati, you will not convince me. Give this a chance, and we can create something beautiful together. Our powers will balance each other. You can force things to evolve and change, and my power will protect what we create from complete annihilation." It took further negotiation, but eventually, a deal was struck. Together, Ati and Leras stretched out until they found an empty system, and there they pulled a planet from the void and set about creating life there. Ati, already succumbing to influence of his power, secured the promise that one day Leras would allow him to destroy that which they created. Leras agreed, and with a heavy heart began to plan the betrayal of the person he loved most. Dimly, he saw one future where mists, black and white, intertwined, becoming something greater.

  12. Okay, I’m not just referring specifically to Ranette, although since Sanderson set her up as someone who researches ways to better kill allomancers, and as one herself, she certainly has less of an excuse. In Alloy of Law, Ranette provided Wax with specialized “Hazekiller” rounds, as well as a gun specifically designed to incorporate them in addition to conventional rounds. For Coinshots, she added a ceramic tip resistant to Pushes or Pulls. For Tineyes she essentially made a noisy bullet. For Thugs, she went all out with her genius and simply added more powder to conventional rounds, essentially creating a +P magnum round. I can live with her solutions to deal with coinshots and tineyes, but her solution to thugs is atrocious considering the fact that all you would need to do is craft a slug or buckshot out of slightly off pewter. One of the biggest dangers to allomancers is trying to burn metal that isn’t quite up to allomantic standards. Try burning steel with a bit too much or a bit too little carbon and you can get sick. Too much silver in your electrum? You might die. Thugs don’t have bullet proof skin, one of the dangers Thugs face is continuing the fight too long because they don’t recognize how wounded they are or how much blood they’ve lost. Pump some pewter in them with a bit too much lead in i and you’ve got a thug about to drop mid flair because he just burned poison. There are various WOB out there confirming allomancers can burn metals in their body that they haven’t eaten through the mouth. In fact, for years Vin was surviving off of the built up metals collecting in her bloodstream. Allomancers also don’t seem to be able to tell a metal is slightly off until they’ve burned it, a hit pewter burner would have to immediately stop burning the second they were hit with an bad pewter round which would be difficult given that 1. Pewter burners instinctively burn when they’ve been injured, even when unconscious, and 2. They wouldn’t even recognize the off-brand pewter until it’s too late, especially in the heat of battle. This technique would be especially useful against a double gold Bloodmaker like Miles. As Brandon has explained, compounding has less to do with one metallic art directly fueling the other than a general short circuiting of the spiritweb. By burning a filled metalmind with allomancy, you aren’t actually burning or tapping the attribute you stored inside, instead you’re tricking allomancy into thinking that the metal you’re burning is spirit-coded to whatever attribute the feruchemical attribute identifies itself as. The power you’re getting out of it isn’t the same power that you put in. It’s like using your debit card but tricking the merchant into using the card number to someone else’s card. Why is this important? A double gold Bloodmaker burning a gold metalmind (such as when in the actual act of compounding) will automatically start burning any off-gold buckshot introduced into their system first. If the Bloodmaker is burning gold, he won’t be unable to burn any feruchemically charged gold until he either expels or burns up the non-metal mind gold because metalminds are invested and therefore slightly harder to metabolize, as can be inferred here. KAYMYTH OK, so in the signing line, I asked the question about chromium vs a Compounder with both invested and uninvested metals in both their stomach and piercings. BRANDON SANDERSON 1) Yes, the piercings will get burned off. (I bet that seeing that happen would look downright weird.) 2) The noninvested metals go before the invested ones. He said that because invested metals are harder to effect, it takes a little extra time and effort to get them to burn off. So a Leecher trying to clean out a Compounder would have to get a good grip and hang on for a few seconds. 3) Chromium burns about as quickly as duralumin, so if you're trying to burn off a lot of metals, it is possible to run out of chromium before your target is clean. This would probably only be an issue when dealing with larger pieces (like jewelry) rather than your standard metal-flakes-in-the-stomach deal. Could the Bloodmaker simply tap his metalmind to heal? Sure, but he wouldn’t be able to compound until he extracted the faulty gold, and there’s a chance that the bloodmaker’s body might instinctively try to clear the wounds of debris by metabolizing the bad gold due to the bloodmaker’s personal identity including the allomantic ability to burn gold. Is it a perfect strategy? No, but it would allow you to more quickly wear down a double gold twinborn like Miles and give him plenty of grief. This concept isn't just for bloodmakers and thugs, you could apply this to a number of any other allomantically inclined targets. widespread birdshot might not pack a punch, but it will embed itself below the skin, and is hard to dodge.

  13. We've all taken jabs at trying to figure out what the Sibling may be about. The Community's Take General consensus is that there's three Shards on Roshar, and three Bondsmiths, so if the Stormfather, the Nightwatcher, and the Sibling are the three Bondsmith spren (which they are), then the Stormfather corresponds to Honor (which he does), the Nightwatcher to Cultivation (which "she" does), and the Sibling either corresponds to Odium, or is a mix in between Honor and Cultivation. For obvious reasons, it wouldn't make sense for the Sibling to be associated with Odium and still be a part of Surgebinding, so we tend to lean towards the "mix between Honor and Cultivation" more. Another general thing we tend to believe about the Sibling is that they are tied to Urithiru in some way, and may power even power the city. And the last well believed fact about the Sibling is that they are intricately tied to Stone. I know Calderis has a theory on why the Nightwatcher might be stone instead, but that's his to discuss. I'm gonna try and offer a different take on some of these points, and provide additional context to others. Whose magic is Surgebinding? The question asks it all. There's some fuzziness with what happened on Ashyn, but from what we know, the specific powerset of Radiant Surgebinding was first seen in the Honorblades. This implies that the exact specifics, at least, were first defined by Honor. If you look at the Heralds, we have 5 Male Heralds and 5 Female Heralds - a near perfect divide, with all the Male Heralds bunched up around what seems to be the Honor-half of the chart, whereas the Female Heralds bunched up around the Cultivation-half. Then we have spren copying Honorblades. This fact alone makes things very fuzzy. On one side, the spren are... essentially on a spectrum of Honor and Cultivation, with some spren having more Honor and others having more Cultivation. Yet others, like the Stormfather and Nightwatcher, are almost guaranteed to be nearly a 100% one or the other. But the pattern breaks a little if you try and match the spren to the Heralds. By association, a.) Windrunners, Skybreakers, Willshapers, Stonewards and Bondsmiths should be closer to Honor, whereas b.) Dustbringers, Edgedancers, Truthwatchers, Lightweavers and Elsecallers should lean towards Cultivation. And this works, until you look at the Bondsmiths. The Nightwatcher, who should practically be all Cultivation, is a Bondsmith spren, meaning that in Surgebinding, Cultivation is technically more present than Honor. This is despite Brandon telling us on atleast one occasion that the original Knights Radiants were focused more on Honor and his spren (which, depending on how you read it, could and couldn't conflict with Cultivation's presence in the magic). There's a third way of dividing the system too. You could theoretically say that Surgebinding is of both Shards because a.) All Radiants speak Oaths, which come from Honor, and b.) All Radiants have to grow over a total of five Oaths, which evokes the presence of Cultivation I'm going to put forth the idea that there is a third element here, but let's hold these two in mind, for now. When in doubt, stare at the Surgebinding Chart. When most people think of what the Surgebinding Chart tells us, they tend to think that all it tells us is that there are 10 orders, 10 Surges, and that each order gets 2 Surges, and that each Surge is shared between two orders, in a cyclic pattern. Usually, we tend to think that all the extra connections don't matter, and that they're there just for fluff. But, @Master_Moridinfound something interesting. The extra connections start making somewhat more sense once you pull in the Soulcasting Essences. Here's the full graph, and because not all of you are maniacs who have it by heart, I've gone forth and labeled it too: (it is definitely interesting that the whole thing looks like a gemstone) Smoke, for example, is connected to Fire, Wind, and Oil. Stone connects to metal, crystal (both come from the ground), water (crem), and flesh/meat/sinew (don't ask). They don't all immediately fall in place, because we think there's more weight to these connections in a metaphorical or philosophical sense, and there are also some thematic Order connections that we're wondering about. The Actual Theory However, an interesting thing happens when we zoom in on the Bondsmiths. Usually, when we think of the Bondsmiths, we think that they have two surges (Adhesion and Tension), and are adjacent to Windrunners (by Adhesion), and Stonewards (by Tension). Which is fine, except in the full chart, Bondsmiths don't have two, but three adjacent Orders: The Stormfather tells Dalinar that his is the power of Connection, so I can see why "Sinew" or "Flesh/Meat" could be associated with his order. But the interesting thing is the three (yep, three) essences they connect to - Wind, Stone, and Pulp/Wood/Plant Matter. I could sit here and establish a line of reasoning from the Essences to the three Bondsmith spren, but it's pretty simple from here on out. The Eila Stele mentions three Gods, of Wind, Spren and Stone. The Wind can pretty easily be attributed to the Stormfather, both because wind, and because his relation to Honorspren and the Windrunners. The Nightwatcher, by the virtue of color green, her home-base of the Valley and connection to Cultivation as "her heir", and indirectly through an excerpt from Rhythm of War, can associate with the Truthwatchers, the essence of Pulp/Wood/Plant Matter, and the "God of spren" from the Eila Stele. This leaves the Sibling, and Stone. So yes, I'm establishing a harder line of reasoning for why the Sibling should associate with Stone. But far more importantly, this establishes the Sibling and the Nightwatcher as being to the Stonewards and Truthwatchers what the Stormfather is to the Windrunners. And for more importantly, this can tell us a little bit more about the Sibling. Earlier, I established two components in Radiant Surgebinding: Oaths from Honor, and Growth from Cultivation. Which works, until you consider that Radiance actually has three elements - the third is that all Radiants are also completely dependent on Stormlight, which is responsible for the literal radiance in Radiance. And even before the death of Honor, the Stormfather is disproportionally more important than any other spren to Surgebinding, as he is the source of all Stormlight. So my theory: All three Bondsmith-spren are intricately tied to Radiance itself. a.) The Stormfather provides Stormlight, representing Honor's Power in Surgebinding b.) The Nightwatcher should be tied to Growth, representing Cultivation's association with Growth in Surgebinding c.) The Sibling should be the spren closely tied to Oaths themselves, representing Honor's association with Oaths in Surgebinding And this works on multiple levels. See, Stone being associated with the very concept of Oaths makes perfect sense - Stone is hard, and it weathers Storms but it doesn't break. An Oath, on a world where Honor resides, is this... abstract thing that must never be broken, and must weather all adversity. Perhaps this is also where the Oathstone of Truthless comes from culturally, and may have ties to Shin veneration of Stone. Another potential way this works is if you look at Stonewards and their attributes - Dependable and Resourceful. It also works if you look at Taln, who was the only one of the Heralds by Aharietam to have never bent his Oath and let the Singers pass. One thing that this implies is that out of the three Bondsmith, both the Stormfather and the Sibling are of Honor, and the Nightwatcher is of Cultivation. Another thing this implies is the reason why the Sibling may have gone to sleep, at least from a narrative perspective. We have two things we know about this: Oaths are about perception and belief - a Knight Radiant and their spren must believe in them and they mean what the KR and spren believe they should. From the Gem archive, we have at least one excerpt which says that the Knights Radiant may have been questioning their own worthiness (perhaps soon after Honor "raved" at them), and that this might be tied to something happening to the Sibling. The Stormfather mentions that "you" (which I read as the humans) "have hurt them enough" What I'm trying to get at, here, is that if the Sibling is... somehow intricately tied to the Oaths and the keeping of Oaths (Stone), then it makes complete sense that the mass breaking of Oaths at the Recreance was not pleasant for them. This means that as Radiants start speaking Oaths, the Sibling may start re-awakening. And if the Sibling is similarly tied to Urithiru, then the Sibling's re-awakening may be intricately tied to the re-awakening of Urithiru. This may be what the blob for RoW may be alluding to. In conclusion, here's the structure I'm implying: I want to dig into what I think this implies for the magic of Roshar in general here (including Voidbinding), but this is already too long, so for now this is it.

  14. The disconnect I think you guys are running into here is that 'asexual' doesn't mean 'incapable of reproduction'. It's vaguely possible that Brandon was using the word that way, but given the way he talks about Herdazians and Horneaters being more likely to be asexual, I don't think he was. So those two WoBs don't actually contradict each other. But I think Asmodeus' original point stands; their instincts are calibrated in a way that means that without the Highstorms, they probably wouldn't reproduce frequently enough to maintain the race.

  16. That’s a fair point. I do believe he intends to release it, but I understand his reasons for not releasing it. He doesn’t feel that it’s done. That’s okay. I’d rather read a completed book in 5 years than a so-so one now. And personally, I don’t feel the same longing to read the last one that others do. Oh, sure, I’d love to read it, and I’d buy it as soon as I could. However, personally I find both the books amazing enough as they are to be worth reading, as long as you can handle partial cliffhangers. There is an argument to be made that it is a testament to his success as an author that people still love his work as much as they do even though he has not released the last book. He’s a person too, and it’s unfair to him to say that he needs to release it now. I agree with you that his attitude is a problem. I don’t see that as any reason to not read the books. I definitely see the argument that if he hasn’t released the 3rd book, why read the first two. I don’t agree with that personally, but others may have other feelings. Mods, if you think this is off topic, feel free to remove.

Elhokar is only a fledgling Lightweaver, something foreign to Nalthis and slightly taboo in his own world. Is Blushweaver's jealousy before or after Siri meets Lightsong? She is a god, higher than royalty.

Vasher and potentially some the priests do. Like Lightsong? He is probably wealthy enough to afford the fifth heightening(being King has perks). Lightsong is dead. Because Blushweaver is not an idiotic selfish megalomaniac? Lack of political skill is not the same as lack of wisdom. Elhokar did demonstrate some and could have learned more given time. Elhokar does not subscribe to the toxic masculinity of the alethi court. That does not mean he is not strong. And a Lightweaver? The annotations say that her actions are motivated by jealousy. She feels threatened by royalty. That indicates that to some degree she respects it. I don't find paranoid living in a castle or leading a personality cult particularly healthy. A relationship that requires work, compromise, and commitment on the other hand...

  21. Hello! I am robust_jojo and I'm new to Brandon Sanderson's works and fantasy in general. During the lockdown, I've had a lot of time to read so I've challenged myself to read all of the Cosmere. I am currently reading Way of Kings (the first book in the Stormlight Archive, of course) and would like someone to read along with or at least someone to discuss with. I read at about 100 to 200 pages a day pace but am willing to slow down or to speed up. I've also read The Final Empire (the first book in the Mistborn series) and will definitely re-read if anyone is up to that. Thanks!

  24. Renarin's situation isn't exactly helpful in determining things like this due to the nature of his Bond. He very well might have different rules than a normal Truthwatcher. Also, I'm not sure I understand what you mean about him swearing three ideals between the arena and OB. He had been carving on the walls about the Everstorm well before the Arena, so it's likely he swore at least the Second ideal by the end of WoR. Whether he swore the Third offscreen somewhere in the beginning of OB, I can't say. But I don't see that as an impossibility, these books are long, Brandon can't fit everything in them.

  25. See, my strategy is to just linger around the Sanderson books in a library, and eventually you'll find someone who picks up The Way of Kings, looks over at you and says "Funny how this thing seems shorter after Oathbringer." And that's how I met @Firerust, who is the reason I'm on the Shard.

  29. First of all, I am not very knowledgeable about Shards in general, I have pondered here and there. We know that once the 16 Shards after being picked up, made a kind of agreement to 1. 2 shards shouldn't settle in one system. 2. Shards will keep away from each other. There could be more agreements but I'm not aware. So we know of many breaches to the agreement above from what we have read in Mistborn and Stormlight series, also on smaller other works. So to the main topic. We know Shards Honor and Cultivation settled on the Rosharan System which has 3 planets. Ashyn, Braize and Roshar. This system was already in place as it was made by ADO. So my question. Did Honor and Cultivation go settle in Roshar from the start? My theory is that no. Maybe Cultivation was in Ashyn and Honor was in Braize. Roshar itself was already made by ADO and had life there as maybe crem. Maybe a young sentient life. But mostly it was stone. So to continue my theory we can imagine the Shards as their vessels or Avatar. Cultivation was in Ashyn. Hers is the surges. Then Odium came looking and Cultivation knew she wasn't powerful enough to fight against him alone causing her to panic and flee. But then Honor agreed to help fleeing Cultivation by trying to hold off Odium so that she can shelter in Roshar. But Honor got wounded but managed to trap Odium in Braize thus leaving Ashyn completely under the influence of Odium. This later caused the destruction of Ashyn once Odium became God there alone. Meanwhile Cultivation induced a lot of Investiture by her presence in Roshar. Later joined by a weakened and deteriorating Honor. They then mutually agreed to keep fighting Odium together with Honor making sure that he doesn't die in vain using his remaining power to set up various precautions against Odium namely Sprens, Unity (Spren of Roshar maybe), Oathpact, Oathgate, Honor's Perpendicularity, Heralds etc. The Sprens started copying their gods and started doing themselves creating the Knights Radiant. Until Odium started getting powerful enough to corrupt Roshar's magic system causing loss of Investiture and killing Honor finally. Personally I think with Cultivation' future sight she is playing the longer game of waiting than Odium who is like ADD hyper active, who eventhough has future sight is just using it for short term gains. Cultivation is in it for much longer. Sorry about the rambling.

  30. It's a good theory, but unfortunately contradicted by several WoBs: Also, for some reason I don't claim to understand, Honor didn't believe he broke the original agreement:

Prior to being Truthless Szeth was someone special. We don't know much more. Maybe? I personally thought it was the same as Wayne not being able to use guns(just a form of PTSD) but it could be.

  32. I’m not so sure I love the idea of Vin and Elend coming back. I mean, at the end of Secret History Brandon talks about the dangerous trope of character resurrection. I agree with him that Kelsier had more of a story, but Vin and Elend? Honestly, it seemed like their story arcs were done. Alright, here are a few theories, in order of stupidness, lowest to highest: Spook is still living. Kelsier talks to him at the end of Secret History about working together to “find another string,” or something like that. Wouldn’t it also make sense that Spook gets something out of the deal? At some point, Marsh becomes a Worldhopper. I’ll go so far as to say that he’ll be seen in places other than Mistborn eras 3 and 4 in the future... I’m excited for that one. Alright, here’s the crazy one: Lift and Wayne meet somehow, (maybe with Kelsier) and they start a Worldhopping gang. This is the one I’m most excited about. Lift and Wayne, guys. Come on! EDIT: also, Yolen has/had a base-16 number system (shattering of adonalsium, etc. We’ve heard so much about the importance of the number 16 in Mistborn it seems a waste not to have at least one planet with a base-16 number system, giving more credence to the number.)

But other Heralds gave up the blades and gave up the Oathpact in turn their Oaths to Honor was betrayed. This in turn made Honor change but there is still hope in the case of Taln as he upheld the Oathpact honourably and now he is back. If his Honorblade is returned to him then he will gain awareness and won't be a rambling madman. Honor changing is also mentioned as reason for Sibling slumbering. I think the Heralds were also entrusted with the keeping of Oathgates gemstones. Knights Radiant were a byproduct of spren copying what Honor did. It wasn't Honor's intention to create Knight Radiants. His plan include just Heralds and men. When they say Honor is dead . What does it actually mean. I think Honor is only present in the Physical Realm now. He was present in the Cognitive Realm before but I think he got pushed out due to some action that required a lot of Investiture. He realised his original plan wasn't working. The Heralds were bringing Desolations more easily by succumbing to torture more easily than before. Also humans were loosing more technology and culture with each passing desolations. So he had to do something to ensure victory to humans. The strategic importance of Urithiru as a command center cannot be stressed. Whomsoever controls Urithiru controls Roshar. So Honor created Urithiru with the help of Cultivation. Honor was already heavily invested in Roshar. This action further lessens his power and pushes him to the Physical Realm and into his biggest Spren. This is the reason in the Cognitive Realm highstorm is very light. The act of making Urithiru also weakened Cultivation. But she is at present like Dominion and Devotion. Confined to cognitive realm I guess. As in she can hurt Odium if he comes to the Physical Realm and tries to hurt the vessel of Honor. Hence the reason Odium fled as soon as Dalinar opened the perpendicularity.

  38. Two in one here, both via the use of an "allomantic grenade" stored with duralumin allomancy. The first one requires the use of the grenade (used by anyone) and a mistborn (or a person who can burn both duralumin & another metal, possibly via hemalurgy). First, the mistborn burns duralumin. Second, the person hurls the allomantic grenade. Third, the moment the grenade detonates, the person also burns the other metal. Did they just duralumin their duralumin? Double-duralumin their other metal? What would that even do? In retrospect I realize you didn't need a grenade just a Nicrosil burner. Silly me. The second one could also be via nicrosil misting, but I think a grenade would be cooler. Picture yourself as a steel misting, just hopping along on boxings, when suddenly you're soaring thousands of feet into the air, and you realize that you've run out of metals! With a well-timed duralumin touch/grenade, anyone could launch a steelrunner skyhigh, without any means of breaking their fall. This makes me want a special Pokemon episode where team rocket members become mistborns and somone does this to them, so that way they can go "blasting off again... ping"

  43. I got a WoB at the Chicago signing for Skyward that is very relevant to this theory so I thought I'd bump it. I definitely think this gives my ideas more weight. While it doesnt touch on my conjectures about the Heralds, I believe this shores up the foundation of evidence that those were built on. I'll admit that there is an argument to be made that my wording was too loose and that one could still believe the counter arguments proposed in this thread, but I think this is as close to an outright answer on the topic as I could have gotten without baiting a RAFO. What do you guys think? Does this WoB sway you to think I'm right when coupled with the evidence I presented in the OP, or do you guys hold other beliefs on these voices? Feel free to voice your opinion, poke holes, or add ideas since the last round of discussion on this thread!

  44. Hello all, I have invested some stake in the idea that Cusicesh the Protector is the third Sibling, referred to as a sleeping "they" by the Stormfather in Oathbringer. The Stormfather refuses to divulge more information than their existence and their relation to himself and the Nightwatcher. Cusicesh is described in Interlude I-5 of the Way of Kings as a spren of great size (over 100 feet tall) with four arms and a body with a deep blue center. It* rises out of the ocean at the same time every day (7:46am, though I won't pretend to know what that means,) and looks toward the Origin for the full ten minutes of its "performance". While doing so, it rapidly changes between human faces--male and female. Axies cannot tell if there are any repetitions of the faces shown. People who have watched Cusicesh have reported feeling drained afterwards. From Oathbringer's exploration of the Cognitive Realm, there is mention of a link between humanity and the spren. If the Sibling is "sleeping" as the Stormfather said, I believe they would still need to sustain that interaction with humanity. So, everyday, Cusicesh wakes up from its pseudo-hibernation, drains some energy from onlookers to sustain itself, and looks toward the Origin with longing, bearing the faces of those it bonded with in the past, then goes back to sleep. *Though I believe Cusicesh to be the Sibling in question, my belief does not constitute as evidence for sentience in said spren, so I will use the pronouns given to me from the book for Cusicesh until I am proven correct or other pronouns are given.
