  1. They had time. They had to have time. “Lemonelon is clearly guilty here,” DeTess said. “We should expel them, and then we can figure out what to do from there.” “Yeah, that sounds great. Let’s lynch Lemonelon.” Wonko said. DeTess glanced at Wonko. There seemed to be something slightly… off about him. He tried to use his Tineye abilities to figure it out… no, DeTess must have just been paranoid. One by one, they agreed Lemonelon had to be expelled, despite his protestations. Finally, they reached Abstrusity. They looked torn, looking at Lemonelon. "You're sure you're not one of the Thugs?" "Yes. Would I lie to you?" Lemonelon talked slowly, as if any sudden movements might spook Abstrusity into calling for his expulsion. Abstrusity looked around, indecision clear on their face. "What do the rest of you all think?" DeTess opened his mouth to make his case, to remind Abstrusity of why Lemonelon was suspicious, but he never got the chance. "You have to vote according to what you think is right." Elkanah said. "Yeah. It's your choice, at the end of the day." Wonko added, smiling. "Don't let any of the rest of us sway who you want to vote for." Abstrusity paused. "OK. I think we should expel Coda." Wonko's smile widened. "You know, that's a good choice. Let's expel Coda." Coda looked around. "Wait, what? Lemonelon's clearly the guilty one here, why are we -" Elkanah grabbed Coda by the nape of his clothing. "I've heard enough from this Thug. Let's get rid of him." With that, he physically picked up Coda from the back of his clothing, and, despite Coda's flailing attempts to get free, easily walked with him out the front door of the school, returning a moment later wiping his hands clean. "Now, I think there's one more thing to get to." There was a stillness in the room as Wonko walked up to DeTess. Elkanah slowly walked around the edge of the room, watching DeTess like a cat watches a mouse. Sart and Abstrusity stood still, seemingly frozen by the sudden change in fortune. "You've caused a lot of trouble for us, you know." Wonko said. This entire time, the smile had never slipped from his face. "You nearly had us, right there at the end. You nearly took from us that which we rightfully deserved." Wonko kept talking, and Elkanah kept walking around the room - it was getting harder and harder for DeTess to keep an eye on both of them at once. "It was you, then? You murdered El, and Straw, and all those others?" Wonko smiled. "Of course not. You did. Or at least, that's the story that the headmaster will hear. We're simply doing our civic duty in making sure that you couldn't hurt any more of us poor students." "But, you don't have any actual ability as a Tineye, do you? That's why you needed to cheat your way in." Wonko smiled. "Not yet. But on behalf of my comrades, I'd like to thank you for your sacrifice." DeTess looked confused at him for a moment. Wait... where was Elkanah? Even as she had the thought, she felt the dagger go straight through her chest. No, not quite a dagger... a spike, of some kind. As she slowly collapsed, she felt it... draining her, as her abilities as a Tineye seemed to get absorbed into the Spike. "A steel spike, for absorbing Tineye abilities. You should be honoured. So far as we know, you may be the one of the first people since the Ascendance to have had this ritual performed on you. Just know that your powers, your beautiful abilities, will not go to waste. I'll be sure to use them very well." That's all DeTess saw before she lost consciousness. Wonko pulled out the Spike and ramming it through his own chest. Throughout the process, he had never stopped smiling. Coda was expelled! They were a Tineye Student. Vote Count: Lemonelon(3): DeTess, Elandera, Coda Coda(4): Abstrusity, Lemonelon, Wonko, Elkanah Elandera(1): Sart With that, the Elims have won the game! 2. Ahhh... GG everyone! Sorry if my inexperience made it difficult. Lots of fun though! Glad I could at least come up with a creative term. Mundric hurried out into the rain, the water beating down on his precious hat, crumpled beyond repair. His business was in ruins, his life more so. He wished for a simpler time. A time long ago, when his ancestor, Mundric, had been the chief hat merchant of House Hasting. He remembered that time, and the way it had ended, in a story passed down through generations...

  6. So I'm rereading Mistborn Era 1 and I'm just continually impressed by Brandon's forethought in his writing. One of my favorite examples of this: A connection between a conversation Vin and Sazed have in The Final Empire and The Epigraphs written by Sazed in The Hero of Ages. In the Final Empire Vin tells Sazed she'd like for him not to mention her in his recording of the events set in motion by Kelsier and his crew; he tells her that he may need to, but will do his best to respect her privacy. I think this really shows itself in a subtle way in The Hero of Ages epigraphs by Sazed. Vin goes unmentioned in the epigraphs until the very end and even then, Sazed begins speaking about her without mentioning her by name. It isn't until the very last chapter's epigraph when she is named in his writing. The clever way Brandon used that in order to explain how Vin's earring was a spike ties directly into a fairly minor conversation in book one and to me that is just a fascinating writting style. It wasnt until rereading the series for a third time that I picked up on such a subtle thing... but it just goes to show how much gosh darn thought Brandon puts into his writing!! So that's my favorite little foreshadowing tidbit from Brandon's books! What's yours?!

  7. Something fishy is going on here... We've been told that the Orders that form the Knights Radiant are all a blend of Honor and Cultivation. Some lean more toward Honor, others Cultivation, but a blend nonetheless. But I'm beginning to see a pattern along the more Cultivation based orders. We have two instances where a bond was formed with actual children, Lift and Shallan. Our normal Truthwatcher, Stump, ran an orphanage and our other Edgedancer candidate, Ym, made shoes for children. I think these instances are indicative of a larger pattern. I think Cultivation prefers kids and nurturers and looks for people like that for her Knight candidates. If we are to believe Jasnah's childhood troubles were related to an attempt by spren to recruit her then we have yet another example. Renarin and Elkohar don't fit the pattern sure, but of those 2 Renarin is a special case and won't play by many of the rules. Elkohar is an exception in that not everyone Cultivation agents pick will meet the criteria. But I see it strange that while Honor's Knights are mostly fully formed people with issues, but most certainly are at the point in life where they can form an oath and hold it, Cultivation people are those that either can potentially grow into their oaths or people who help others grow. Could we be getting some clues into the shark's nature? Thoughts?

  11. There's this one moment in TFE where Kelsier and Sazed are talking about religion and Kelsier's like "I should start one of those". The first time I read it I thought nothing of it, but in every re-read I think "I see that foreshadowing, you can't fool me Brandon". There was also moment where Kelsier asks Sazed how religions had so much power even after their leader died, and Sazed tells him that the leader's death actually caused a rise in strength (is that the right word?) for many religions, and I don't know how I didn't pick up on that the first time. Brandon's foreshadowing is seriously so good.

  12. Mundric nervously donned his ball cloak. He checked all the hooks were in place, with the release mechanism just inside his collar. He wondered what would come of the ball tonight. Straightening his signature triple-tier top hat, his personal invention made just three days ago, he started jogging towards the residence of House Tekiel. Not the traditional method of conveyance, to be sure, but it wasn't far from his residence and athleticism, as everyone knew, was one of the Seven Fundamental Tenets of the Hatsman. Far be it from him to eschew established tradition. He hoped to find some publicity for his new book: Above the Spikes: An Inquisitor's Guide to Hatwear at the ball, but considering the fashion sense of most attendees, he doubted it. The fashions of this time were uninteresting in his opinion. He just hoped his descendants would fare well, get a good education at a prestigious school, maybe even be Allomancers, or try to.

  13. Mundric hung his head. What use were principles in a den of liars and cheaters who’d do anything to take what was not theirs? They hadn’t even bought a hat. The great torment filled him. It wrapped his mind like a shroud of nettles, piercing him with the deepest fear a man could feel - the torment of uncertainty. He stepped out from his improvised shop, and drew a small aluminum top hat from his case. The edges were sharp. He was going to find the one who’d orchestrated this, and make them pay. Not the soulless thugs, no. Whatever demented schoolmaster that could lie to so many, about the purpose of the very school and set them at each other’s throats... He was the one to go after. —— Right from the get-go, the lack of resistance to a vote on Lemonelon is worrying. My suspicions are all over the place. Every suspicion seems to be wrong, but I’m more worried about Coda than Lemon. It’s all so unclear.

  16. So I've been thinking about the 'sun' in Shadesmar and the clouds trail towards it... It was just a thought, but could this point be where Adonalsium was shattered? I think this because it may have been an explosion of sorts which could be the cause of the clouds expanding outward from that point. I don't have any facts to support this, I was just wondering what you all thought of this?

  19. @Ookla the Partitioner Just a note of clarification. I think all three of your critiques here basically pick up on Z quoting Christian faith. So even though you are explaining your work (in the forum, though not in the book), because the reader picks up on this as Christian faith, then that's how it will be perceived, no matter what you intend. That's the reason for these critiques. I think @Lightbearer had some really good points about the strawman arguments that were introduced and how they can be adjusted. In any case, there needs to be a lot more buildup. I think rather than any of us being disdainful of the story you are trying to tell, we are attempting to give you our reactions, which would likely be the same reactions a multitude of readers would have if this were to be published. The fact that our reactions are more visceral is because this story touches on a nerve that is prevalent in our society, and thus needs to be approached with caution. It's great to write about and explore these concepts (and that's a big benefit of SFF in general) but on the other hand, it's also important to pay attention to how they are received, and if the response you think you will get is not the one you are getting, then you may need to look at the core concept of your story again.

  22. Granted, you now have the magical ability to control the temperature of your socks. However, your friends notice your magical ability. "Why are you socks always so toasty and warm, Brightness?" They'll ask you. You will be forced to answer: "Magic?" After which, your frightened friends will go to the authorities, who will fear that you will try to take over the world with your magical sock-ing abilities, and then they will try to see if you weigh less than a duck. Seeing that you are indeed heavier than a duck , they will release you. However, their suspicions will hound you for the rest of your life. You will miss out on scholarship opportunities, job promotions, and even prune juice samples at the retirement home. Now you see what consequences a, seemingly, insignificant boon can have... I wish I could magically change my clothes without having to take them off.

  24. Brandon's not going to include the word "kill" in the title. And since it's Szeth, the W probably stands for wind, though obviously not certain. It's probably going to be Knight of the Wind, or Keeper of the Wind, or something like that. Or maybe it stands for World. Dunno. Though I do like Knot of Woes, but have no idea what that might refer to. Another cool name would be Kname of the Wind, with a silent K. Sounds like a neat book, somebody should write that.

  25. Are you saying that Dalinar offers Odium the chance to leave even if he loses the contest of champions? Otherwise the deal is the same as it would be anyways, so Odium would have no extra motivation to fight.

  26. Okay, when this is all said and done, Withy is definitely getting some disciplinary action. FT formed a giant screen out of pure Narration, so that the other Characters, Authors, Narrators, ghanderflaffles, Hermitcraft participants etc. could watch the proceedings from a safe distance. All good and noble citizens of TLT viewed the screen with bated breath. Their attention focused on the limp, lifeless form of Sophie.

The three Realms predate the Shattering and there's no reason to think that Adonalsium was any different from everything else in the Cosmere vis a vis existing in all three, given that he was the source of all the Investiture that makes up the Cosmere. PS, just saw your custom title, very nice. 俺もスティックです。

  28. Uneasily Temeria looked around. There was only the alley, nothing else. Nothing apart from the shadows that seemed to move, as if they were waiting for her to take a wrong step. Or to stay here alone. Ice cold fear grabbed her heart and she swallowed. Alone. Here. No, it wasn't an option. She could deal with something corporal, something she could use her sword to hack apart. But this - this was something completely differet. She couldn't fight a shadow. The question of the one who had greeted her was no real question, although she supposed she should be glad that she didn't take her hair and drag her away. Somehow she felt as if they were able to do that. "He did leave a message." She finally replied, her voice shaking slightly. Her eyes flickered over to the one with the tail. They were quiet, but that only meant that she wouldn't hear them before they sunk their knife in her chest. She had to be careful. The question hovered in the air between them, while she groped for words, tried to come up with something that was useful and at the same time hid her fear at being left along in this place. And her fear at going somewhere else but back to the boarding house. She could take the spren and run. The only question was where. In the end there was no alternative and she stepped slightly to the side when it seemed as if something was moving towards her. Her eyes. It had to be her eyes, they were playing tricks on her mind. "And yes, I've got some time on my hands. I came here to bring this news and if it is relevant to your superior then I will gladly talk to him." There. That sounded as if she actually knew what she was doing.

If you lose an arm or something , unless a returned dies go you, U won't get it back. 5H does however grant you agelessness. That's something GC can never do and even atium compounding can do at extremely high cost and decreasing returns . GC and 5H would complement each other to make you truly immortal

  39. I think that's the point of the interludes though. There's one interlude character that shows up in all the parts who is more connected to the rest of the characters, but the other interludes are used as small views into the rest of the world, since there's no time to address them during the main narrative. It's a chance for Brandon to show off the world he created. Other interludes, such as Geranid (the two ardents doing spren research), Ellista, Puuli, Ishikk (from the Purelake) are all mostly disconnected from the rest of the book, except for worldwide events or vague references. In that way, this particular interlude is not so different. So this interlude is both a closure for one part of Tien's story, and maybe a introduction of the (awesome) Herdazian general, so we won't be too surprised if he shows back up (I hope he comes back, I liked him).
