So, this is no drawing, because I can't draw. Therefore it basically has nothing to do with the Inktober, and the last thing I want to is steal the attention from all of our great artists. Still, when I drove home today there was a song in the radio, and I found myself changing the lyrics to fit all of you. What I am trying to say is thank you. For being here, for giving the Alleyverse it's soul. For giving me a place where I can just be for a while. You are great, never let yourself being told different, or think that you aren't worth everything this world can offer you.

Wow, all of these drawings are so good! Here’s mine, the thought process was that spikes give you power, so the word ‘power’ is made of spikes, and that this would fit. Obviously I didn’t know power was already a prompt , I guess I’ll think of something else when that day arrives .

Nice to meet y'all! I kind of did things backwards here. Read every single Cosmere work, met the mighty BrandoSando at DragonCon 2019, got to ask some fun questions I had rumbling around in my head, and THEN found out about this whole awesome community! This was almost posted in the bad news thread, but my luck turned around and so I’m here! Today, arriving at school I checked my grades like normal. As and Bs, like normal. A single late assignment, like normal. What wasn’t normal was a failing grade in French. I....may have overreacted. I really don’t like getting bad grades and my parents put lots of pressure on me. So I’m going through all my classes feeling anxious. Then I go to French, last class of the day, and she reveals that she put in all of our grades wrong. So that’s awesome. Even better, she gave us all an extra credit point on the assignment! Oh, and I did amazingly on a really difficult Chemistry test!

Has anyone else wondered how the heck Lopen lost his arm? My theory is that he fought the "pig" in Herdaz that appears in one of the interludes of... Oathbringer? I think? Anyway, that was the most reasonable theory me and my friend came up with, most of which had to do with him secretly being the king of Herdaz. Oh yeah, and how did he get into the bridge crews in the first place?

It's definitely possible to use, but significantly more limited than some are describing (here and elsewhere), and there are going to be limits. Basically you could pull off anything you could yourself do entirely in your head, without benefit of writing anything down for notes or calculations. Well, that changes the landscape, i was definitely stuck in the bullet-time speed of thought side, but if it also includes Intuitive Leaps, that's does open up a lot of additional capability. Thanks! That leads me to several other questions: How long can you burn Zinc before you would need to also tap/Compound F-Bronze to restore your mind? If Zinc burns calories at an increased rate, it would follow that your brain would also need rest at the same increased rate. What are the limits of these Intuitive Leaps? Is it still limited by your own knowledge and just represent a sort of sub-consciou data-based statistical analysis (Im thinking Dune Mentats, here) or is there a Fortune/Spiritual Realm mechanic going on here where you are actually peaking into the Cosmic Truth of the Spiritual realm the way Atium works.

I don't think so. I think what Dalinar was seeing was the same thing as the two ardents in that interlude about flamespren, where they're measuring the size of them and it keeps changing to what they expect. Dalinar perceives those spren a certain way, and the power of that perception is apparently enough for them to conform.

Isaac is doing an AMA on reddit, and I got confirmation that this overlay of the Elendel Basin over the Final Empire map was pretty close, size and location-wise. It's crazy thinking of how many people must have died and how little ground has been resettled since then! If I remember correctly, the population of Elendel is in the low millions somewhere, and the population of TFE was in the 100 million range. So we're talking a 90% loss of life. And pretty close to that for land, it seems.

Her being emotionally traumatized to the point of being senseless does not equal her being stuck in the Physical Realm. I'm not saying she was or she wasn't. I'm saying there's no proof that she was stuck in the PR. It's possible that some particular types of Radiant deaths can strand the spren in the PR, but I really doubt that most spren get stranded after their Knight dies. Let's just agree to disagree.

Spren consider losing their minds to be dying. And without being bonded to a person, they lose their sapience. And Brandon said that the Radiant dying doesn't damage the spren. Ergo, Radiant dying doesn't strand them in the PR without a bondmate.

That's so tough because I've had my mind blown by pretty much everything he's written. That being said, it would probably have to be The Way of Kings. It was my first Sanderson book and Kaladin is such an incredible character. Close second would have to be Hero of Ages because HOW DO YOU FIT THAT MANY MASTERFULLY FORESHADOWED PLOT TWISTS IN THE LAST QUARTER OF A BOOK.

I once posed this objection as well, and had this WoB thrown back at me: So you get not only the speed-of-thought bit, but also the boost to making intuitive links and leaps between thoughts/ideas. It does not turn you into Ken Jennings in the sense that you would suddenly have a wealth of trivia knowledge you didn't have before - rather, the speed at which Jennings can see two separate hints in a clue and put them together, combined with what he knows, to get the solution, far more rapidly than someone else with the same information might ever do. (Note that Brandon was once roommates with Ken in college, so this "I knew all that but would never be able to piece it together in a buzzer-beating situation" is a little bit of a personal frame of reference he is putting out there!)

I think it was said that Wax is only the second steel/iron twinborn recorded. If twinborn combinations are restricted to be within the same quadrant, I feel like steel/iron would be a lot more common, especially because Allomantic steel is one of the most common misting powers.

I have noticed that Shallan was able to use pattern as a blade after only having sworn the 1st ideal. This is odd to me all the other orders need to have sworn the 3rd ideal to use the spren as a blade but Shallan was able to use patter to kill her mother and I was wondering if anyone knew why?

@RShara what? I thought killing her father was her first truth and she used pattern to kill Tyn shortly after telling pattern that she killed her father her second truth was that she killed her mother.

fair enough. but I have also heard that Shallan had some involvement with Sja-anat at a young age is it possible that her influence allowed Shallan to use pattern too soon

I like all of these ideas because I feel like Urithiru kinda fell short I think when they get the pillar at the heart of Urithiru working a lot of cool things will start popping up.

Or it could mean that Trell could take control of her because Sazed didn't know of the metal she was using and harmony couldn't affect the metal as much as a normal spike.
