  2. Thank you so much to @Butt Ad Venture for tonight's writeup! --- Another day had passed, a day of bolted doors and distrust. A day where the world got a little bit closer to death. A day where hope got an inch closer to death. Lord Kelsier said hope could never die. He lied. Hope was as good as dead. Impossibly, a few people still fought. They fought, and they died. Others questioned whether it would ever end. But in the end they fought, they all fought, and they all kept hope alive. The hope compelled someone to speak up. He shared his knowledge; another said he was wrong. And...the hope got him lynched. Hope had turned on them. Kelsier was wrong. Hope killed them. Kelsier had doomed them. With hope destroying all they fought for, why did anyone still hold on? --- Night 2 has begun! The turn will end on Sunday, September 8, at 12:30 PM PDT. Amanuensis was lynched! Brooks can while streams can't. A hollow can but a hole can't. Everything may not, but all could. An allomancer can; a feruchemist can't. Windrunners can and Skybreakers can't. Mortals can't but immortals can. Galladon may go, but Raoden must tray. Nightblood may and Szeth may not. Firemoss can go and Ridgebark cannot. Death Rattles, yes. Last words, no. Truthless, yes. Slave, no. Ghostbloods, yes. The Diagram, no. The Shattered Plains, yes, Aemia, no Assassination, yes. Oathpact, no. Battles, yes. Wars, no. Chulls, yes. Chasmfiends, no. Koloss, yes. Kandra, no. 9. This is true. Though it is important to note that I only give possible interpretations, not the exact correct one. The only thing I'm fairly confident in is that it's a story of someone temporarily ascending for a specific purpose. Yellow-Gold is not the color of Odium. His color is intense Yellow-White, intense enough to burn you out. Intense enough that Voidlight straight up appears appears Stygian Blue. On only one instance does he appear as anything else - in the Vision where he gives Dalinar the Passion speech, iirc. And that instance is debatable, because it's a spiritual vision where he we know he's not being fully honest with even himself. This situation is similar to Dustbringers - there, the Red isn't caused by co-option/corruption. Similarly, the Yellow-Gold of Bondsmiths isn't indicative of Odium. It's a situation where you have two very similar colors that could point in one direction or another, and the details would dictate which way they go. The lack of a mention of intensity, and the presence of Yellow-Gold as opposed to Pale Yellow is what makes me think Bondsmiths as opposed to Odium. This is also fair, and I don't clearly explain my entire thought process for Tower -> Investiture Construct in the post itself. Once I took the Heavens and Land as allusion to the Realms (Heavens being a relation to the Spiritual, and Land being Cognitive/Physical. We don't technically know the nature of the Spiritual, yes, but what we do know makes it fair to say that it exists very differently to Shadesmar and the Physical.) The next thing would be to look at the towers, and see what they would represent. They probably aren't literal towers, so what do they allude to? And the idea that they might be trying to convey is of some endeavor that the Natan people, under Tsa, were undertaking. Something that they would be well known for, and Wit does say that in this time Natanatan was a place of great culture. This endeavor would also need to be of a kind that could be perfected by ascension - requiring the kind of knowledge of Realmatics that a Shard would instinctively have. The other thing to keep in mind is the nature of getting invested. In the Cosmere, the difference between a regular person and someone who has ascended is the difference in the magnitude of power that courses through them. Someone who is an Allomancer burning a metal, say, or a Surgebinder holding Stomrlight, is closer to the state of ascension than a normal person. True, it takes a lot more to ascend, but the fact remains that by the very virtue of having investiture coursing through them, they are closer to ascending than regular people. In other words, having investiture pushes you towards the heavens, even though you are still firmly grounded on land. What we have so far is that the Towers are an allusion to an endeavor that requires certain Realmatic knowledge which would come naturally with ascension. The fact that the Tower is what is used is indicative of the nature of the endeavor - something that approaches the domain of divinity. Combine this with the word Radiant used to describe it, which on Roshar would be a word you would use to describe anything that uses the investiture if Stormlight inherently. And the fact that "Mishim" says they were trying to impinge on her domain, that is what pushes me towards Fabrials, or some other kind of invested construct if that kind. Yes, this is longwinded, farfetched. But none of those correlations are infeasible.

  10. Hmm. That makes sense. My reasoning was that a normal Radiant has two abilities. Jasper still has only two abilities. I see your point, I just wasn't expecting additional points for zinc. It's your call and I will abide by what you decide. I just wanted to point out my thoughts. There's no limit to how many can be active at the same time. It's a fast process. It's as fast as rioting an emotion and flipping a switch. Of course if your looking to tie an emotion to something specific it would require the victim to be actively thinking about it. If the person realizes their emotions are wrong it should take the average person 15-20 minutes to break free. I've been thinking about weaknesses and think I have another one that would make using his powers much harder to use. I think it would make sense for him to need physical contact to lock emotions. With all other uses of adhesion they needed physical contact, so it makes sense. In a battle this would make him kind of useless as he has no fighting skill and most people aren't going to let you touch them. I've been trying to come up with other weaknesses, but want them to make sense to this character and have an impact on him. I don't want weaknesses that sound really bad but are easy to gloss over. I want them to affect him as a person.

  11. Hello ^^ I am a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson and even if I didn't read all the books yet, I bought them all and they wait in the queue. I read Elantris and Mistborn (first trilogy) so far. I must say that Mistborn quickly became my obsession and now, when I am reading the last book of the trilogy, I talk only about it xD Nice to meet you all!

  17. Hi all, I was thinking about how when someone dies in the cosmere, their souls passes to the CR and from there to the beyond. Does this mechanic apply to people who die by a shardblade? If I understand correctly shardblades sever souls, so, is this soul able to go to the CR and the beyond? Additionally, Nightblood functions differently, it (he?) consumes and destroys the investiture of one handling him unsheathed, and eventually consumes the life force (soul?) of the person and kills him. Is this soul also able to pass to the beyond? Thanks!

  18. Dim light from the setting sun fell on a group of men and women sitting around a table. A few of them spoke in hushed but urgent tones. The air was thick with nervous tension. A tall woman, who seemed to be leading the discussion, was unaffected. She pressed forward, demanding the attention of everyone in the room. A small man in the corner fidgeted with a gold ring on his finger. Light glinted off the “You can’t possibly-” he began to say. “Yes, I can,” the woman responded. She stared at him, a hardened determination clear in her expression. “They are weak. Now is the perfect time.” --- Raucous laughter filled the Great Hall. The emperor smiled as he looked across the gathering of arbiters. Members of each of the eighty factions were there. Despite most of their arguments against the practices of the Heritage faction, they all loved a good feast. “Aren’t we missing someone?” asked the head arbiter. “Hmm?” The emperor had developed quite a talent for ignoring the droning of the head arbiter. The man liked to hear himself talk, even if no one else was listening. “The Glory Faction seems to be missing. At least, their leaders.” “Ignore them. They’re simply jealous of how far we’ve come.” Welcome to MR37/AN6: An Empire is Falling! It takes place in the Rose Empire prior to the events of The Emperor’s Soul. This will be an anonymous, blackout game. Most game-relevant rules will not be revealed except to those to whom they apply. See the following for those rules that will be revealed to everyone. 22. Hey HawkedUp, thanks so much for reading and commenting. I got here in the end! Yes, I accept this, and have punched up both interviews, especially M's. Thank you. I take your point on this. I think it's a tricky one. I easily could have called this 2049 (oops, that's taken), and--probably apart from the settlement of other planets--I don't think the change with respect to the level of tech would raise any eyebrows. Likely, it would make some of the reference and languages sit better. I'm going to take a note on this, because it's an over-arching question of style and approach to the trilogy as a whole. It's a good point, but not an easy one. This is awesome. Very pleased I accept this point, and have tried to address some of these issues. I think the edited version is better, without being transformed into a driving narrative. People do respond differently to it. This is NOT a criticism, but it seems some people are more patient with the plot. This said, the story has come on a lot (it used to be much slower, believe it or not), and I'm indebted to RE for keeping pushing me to up the stakes. I will keep going. Thanks for raising this. Fair point. I think I've fixed this, in that I've made Q and M more active in places. And while they still are being detained, are trying more actively to benefit from the situation and pursue their investigation, I hope. The sheriff is always going to have most control, but I think it reads better now. Thank you! Ooft! Well... I can't say too much about that other than mission accomplished, I guess... Don't even think about it. Here's me replying 12 days later!! I really appreciate the comments and have a long way to go in submitting, so timescale is by no means critical. Great comments once again. Thanks so much.

  25. Hoid's stories - especially ones that have lightweaving involved - have almost always been allusions, though we don't know which specific events he's alluding to all the time. It's sort of a prerogative to the illusary capabilities of Lightweaving and the nature of lies - art needs truth, but it also needs to interpret it. All of his stories would be anchored in (or reflective of) something true and relevant. All he does is bring it forth, and let his audience draw what meaning from it they may. There's just enough creativity involved for it to be a lie, and yet there is always truth somewhere in it. Now, the conclusions I'm drawing from the story - those can be wrong. But the story is based on something though - and it seems hard to accept the literal involvement of the moons themselves.

  27. “Wait, so that’s what a Writer can do?” I asked, slightly happy another first-person character had joined. “Summon their characters?” But that was the problem. I hadn’t written any characters. I was a existential-crisis detective here to solve a murder, I had never written any character. So did that mean I was a character? Wait, but what if I wrote something! Quickly I took out my dtetcive handbook and scrawled something on the beige pages. Character: Meta-character Personality: Umm, we’ll just say he’s smart, and strong and stuff. Weaknesses: a character Backstory: written by me. I focused on the thing I had just wrote, channeling the power and suddenly Meta-character appeared I front of me. I hadn’t put any description into his appearance so it constantly was changing to what everyone thought of him, similar to mine. I waved, and Meta-character waved back. “Wait, so you’re my character, right?” Meta-character nodded. “Yeah, I’m your character, but you are also someone else’s character, which means you just created the first character who’s now got a character. You literally created a meta-character. Hence, me. Meta-character.” My mind was spinning. It was Writer-ception. Did that mean there were multiple levels of reality? I was a Writer now I could summon characters, but I was a character. But I was as also written in first person! So who was I? Did I even exist? My existential crisis I was so known for began to happen, my appearance flickering in and of of reality.

  33. With regards to the "three surges with one overlapping" idea, I would also like to add that it doesn't seem too unreasonable to say that the shared surge would also be much more Stormlight-efficient, especially so at higher Ideals (or Truths). Since you have two bonds growing deeper with two Spren that both grant the "same power" (the same surge), you could use both bonds to 'conduct' (not sure if that's a good term) the Stormlight to the desired effect of the Surge. For instance, say... A... DustBreaker (so edgy) would have two spren both granting Division. I feel like they could become very powerful with that Surge in less time if they were able to swear Oaths to both orders at roughly the same time (or one after another with a fairly short interval, or what have you). Another big thing with double-bonding Spren: Two (living) Shardblades! That means a Radiant like that could (maybe) do something like a Bow and Arrow, with one Spren being the Bow, and one being the Arrow that is launched (since 1 Spren can't split into multiple pieces to be a bow and arrow at the same time). And of course, the obvious badassery of dual-wielding full-sized Blades.

The Lesser Skyeel, as well as the Greater, display sexual dimorphism in which the sexes appear different. The Lesser Skyeel female and the young are both camouflaged to maximize survival, while the male is fancy to get a date. Instead of an eel, the lesser skyeel is based on lauch fish and a bit of gold fish for derpy look. It is 26cm long, the size of a wooden soup ladle.

This here veers into some serious artistic licenses, lol! I split the official skyeel description into two - the moray look for the Greater, and the color and pattern for the Common. As I mentioned before, it started as one skyeel, but then I went berserk and made three species. The Lesser Skyeel is comparatively smaller than the other two, but still about the size of a Blue Jay. ... I probably should have included the size chart in this upload too, huh? It'll come with the Greater Skyeel batch. So whereas the Common Skyeel is the equivalent of a seagull or petrel, the Lesser Skyeel is the equivalent of a backyard bird, such as the Blue Jay or the Northern Cardinal, or sparrows. ... aw I should've designed a 'bird feeder'. Too late. As such a small species, their color and pattern need to blend in with the environment well. Without illustrating the environment, I used a collage of what I think Rosharan landscape is based on to help with this part.

  40. Ironically enough Lift IS that storming pure (since she gets nauseous around Nightblood) and breathes (belches) Stormlight to heal people. Anyways I saw this crempost on Reddits r/Stormlight_Archive this morning and had to share it:

  43. Disclaimer: I did not make this. I take no credit. My cousin showed it to me and I saw it wasn't on the Shard, so I posted it.

  44. The biggest thing it shared with Alcatraz was the evil librarians. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Talent. The dream started out with me, my cousin, and my brother separated from our relatives. I don't remember how. The three of us performed an epic infiltration of a library, most of which I have forgotten. My cousin and brother were captured; however, I managed to escape. After that I went to a store, where I bought a few items that I don't remember and a bike without handlebars or a front wheel. For whatever reason, I didn't notice the bike was dysfunctional until after I had left the store. I dumped it outside. After that I went to infiltrate another library, which had a tiny store at the front of the building. I bought a rope there, a rope being the last thing I needed for one scheme(the unknown items from the first store contributed to the scheme as well). I have no idea what the scheme was, but I think it was what allowed me to infiltrate the library in the first place. I eventually reached a richly dressed room. There was a girl with a key(I think I found her in the room, but I can't be sure) to a vault which was in the room. Apparently inside the vault was some sort of refuge for members of the royal line(of which she was one of the last). She opened the vault and we went inside. I don't remember anything else up until a point where the girl had been captured by a rich-looking man with black hair, who may or may not have been her father or uncle. At some time after that, the man with black hair entered the vault. After that I had to find the key again. I also remember a Lego Star Wars III sequence where me and my brother played as clone troopers in the inside-the-vault environment, I'm not sure if that was when the man entered the vault or after I found the key and entered it. So the notable influences in this dream: -Alcatraz -Narnia -Lego Star Wars III

  45. You're all wrong. Kelsier should be played by Steve Buscemi, Vin by Miley Cyrus , and Sazed by Samuel L. Jackson. And clearly the only person fit to play the Lord Ruler is the adorable, doe-eyed Tobey Maguire.
