  1. I always loved much of the playful relationship between Vin and Elend and nothing topped it more for me than when they finally got to dance and Elend of course immediately pulls out a book. I can only imagine how exasperated and yet amused Vin must have felt. I also loved the idea of her simple, but elegant black dress and him in his white uniform. Such a contrasting look, though there weren’t a ton of descriptive details to work with, so I took some liberties. Anyways, I wanted to do a piece involving that scene and so this was the result. Hope you all enjoy!

  3. *scoots in here after being inactive for about a decade* Hiiiii I started rereading Alloy of Law and I forgot how much I loved Cosmere. Hopefully I am back here for a bit longer now. I am all over the place in my life right now, but this was honestly one of the best places I've ever been on the internet so I need to be here more. (It also seems like this thread isn't very active anymore, I hope I'm not necroing lol) Sadly I still have not finished Oathbringer. Un-sadly I just applied for my general falconry permit, so fingers crossed that comes in soon <3 totally hasn't been feverishly checking my email every hour I'll be changing my pace this season and flying a kestrel instead of a red-tail. 4. The Tower of Nebrask stood tall above the plains, wild chalklings flowing out from its every crevice. It had stood for ages untold, and soon its master plan would be coming to fruition. Elsewhere, the survivors of a traitorous plot were devising a scheme of their own. “Where’s Caccoo Moreau?” asked Aiden. “Dead.” replied Kadal softly. “The Forgotten got to him.” “What are we going to do?” prompted Aiden. “We’ve lost so many already.” “I have a plan.” interrupted Mya. “We’re going to end this war, once and for all.” “I’ve already told you, Mya, it won’t work! We don’t have enough manpower!” yelled Kadal. “That’s where they come in…” Mya explained. Elsewhere, a group of classmates were reminiscing about their time at Armedius Academy. “It’s hard to believe it’s been this long since we’ve gotten together.” remarked Tendin Throk. “Feels like yesterday we were all fighting in the Melee.” added Vao Temer. “I still should have won that.” bitterly replied Joseph. “Matist was nearly down for the count, but then,” “Yeah, yeah, we know.” interjected Pete Gazon. They had all heard the story by this point. “Speaking of Matist, where is he?” asked Slavista. “Schmoozing it up with the bigwigs no doubt.” responded Miffed. “Jeesh, don’t they know that this is important? We’re here to remember those we’ve, we’ve...” Apla trailed off, tears welling up. Elysian put a hand on Apla’s shoulder. “We all miss them.” “Hey, let’s not all be down in the dumps! We’re here to celebrate their lives, not mope around.” complained Drake. Raising his glass, Jeeves proposed a toast. “To our good friends. May we meet again in the Master’s halls.” The remaining alumni responded with a hearty “Here, here!” Elsewhere, in the halls of Central Command, the Forgotten planned their next move. “Status report!” barked Samuel Kessen. “Thing are going according to plan.” replied Wyatt. “Isaac has dropped the hammer on the Fifth brigade, and Cole has subverted supply lines for the Sixth.” “What about our stragglers?” continued Samuel. Tory Farth fielded that question. “Don’t worry about them. Shanice has already gotten several of our operatives to monitor them.” He shook his head. “The fools plan plan to coerce an Armedius Alumni group into joining them, and then mount a desperate attack on the Tower. We’re one step ahead though, and have had Matist convert several of his classmates. With all of our sabouters, there’s no way the offensive succeeds.” “And you’re sure the conversion was successful? We’ve had too many mistakes lately. We can’t afford another.” demanded Samuel. “Of course, they were successful.” Joel replied. “Ronald was a fluke. That man never had his lid screwed on right to begin with. You haven’t had any problems with Jain, have you?” “No, of course not.” Sam broke out in a sinister smile. “How long have we waited for this? Nothing will go wrong. At long last, it is time for our revenge.” The Forgotten’s eyes glowed white. Elsewhere, a giant squid was on a mission. He plodded across the land, one thing on his mind. It was time for it to smash. The Tower was waiting. All the pieces were on the board. And now, after all these years, it was time for the game to end. Welcome to Long Game 57, The Tower of Nebrask. This is the conclusion of the 5 other Rithmatist games in this sub-forum. I'm Sart, your GM. @Ax's Boyfriend is helping me out as a co-GM. This game will be starting on July 8th, at 8:00 PM CDT. 5. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, I've been listening to the Shardcast for some time now and have decided to sign up for the forum. I'm a huge Sanderson fan, I've read (or listened to the audiobooks of) almost all of his published books, and I am still trying to understand all the Cosmere connections. My favourite series is the first Mistborn trilogy.

  10. Pretty much. Which is why I am looking forward to Szeth's continuing evolving character. Lol sorry. Enjoy reading them! No problem. it happens. So I started, but unfortunately have lagged, looking at every quote associated with Amaram to give him a thorough over look like I did to Jasnah. Amaram is a glory hound. He tried to convince Dalinar to leave behind Sebarial and the other highprince, so just Dalinar, Amaram and Dalinar's men could go off to the center of the Shattered Plains for glory. Dalinar said how they should be beyond such vainglory. Dalinar wasn't sure he would have any other Highprinces to back him up at all, but if you know a military leader lied to you, stole from you, and killed men under his command in the past to further his own goals, would you trust him to lead your own men? For myself, I most certainly would not. So I would out him before leaving, to minimize the potential sabotage he could do to my excursion in retaliation. But that at least is just me. So I do believe Dalinar would have done it around that time regardless, but since Kaladin returned, he did it the way he did. So although not the quote I thought, it does still answer your question: Words of Radiance page 709 "He had just enough Light to free himself from the mo9untains and land in a village in the foothills. They often set out spheres for him there as an offering, considering him some kind of god. He would feed upon that Light, and it would let him go farther distance until he found another city and more stormlight." This was the scene where Szeth hung out at Urithiru Brandon tends to focus heavily on world building and thinks of this stuff in advance. The chasmfiends are a prime example of this. Insects and crustaceans cannot get larger than they are due to the inverse square law. Their own body would crush them from the weight. So in order for chasmfiends to still be a thing, Brandon had Roshar have lower than what we know of on earth gravity. But he didn't stop there because the reduced gravity would still result in the chasmfiend crushing their own body. It isn't enough by itself. Which is why he came up with the ecosystem having natural fauna have natural bonds with various spren. The spren the chasmfiend is bonded to, and hangs around it, cause it to be lighter, and thereby exist. Roshar also has a higher oxygen content which scientists theorize would allow for larger insectoid life forms which we do see on Roshar. The is one of the big reasons a lot of people do love Brandon's writing. Because he does account for these things. Or at least to the best of his ability. For instance soulcasting is mass conservative unless certain situations where it is not. Not sure if you know what I mean by that, so if you would like me to explain, let me know! As to deus-ex, with all due respect, I do feel you are not using that term correctly. It originated during greek tragedies, because the play would put the protagonist in such a horrible situation that there was no way the person could come back from that. The writers wanting the audience in some situations to still have "a happy ending", would insert a literal god, who would take pity on the protagonists plight, snap their fingers, and "fix everything". This is a problem because the god insert had no foreshadowing, no reason, and took away agency from the protagonist. It also removed any means of drama, because you would know that no matter how bad things got, it could just be "fixed". So it became known as a literary device for whenever something has not been explained, foreshadowed, or makes sense in the world it is in, occurs for no discernible reason. Soulcasting comes up repeatedly throughout the novels. It is explained at length. It was a very real cost to those using the fabrials. It is a rare relic and it is employed as such. The ardentia regulates and restricts it extensively. The fact that Jasnah has one is seen as a great heresy, danger, and she has to fight off people trying to rob her of it constantly. It is discussed in the novels how the highstorms and soulcasting create a great military dilemma. Do you go for the high ground to lay siege to a city, risking your army getting wrecked in a highstorm, or do you go for cover, but lose the advantage? Siege warfare is not something you can wait out. Between highstorms battering your troops, and soulcasters keeping a city supplied despite loss of access to their farm land, generals have to find someway to cope. This is further expounded upon in Oathbringer, but there are plenty of mentions of it in Way of Kings and Words of Radiance. Just like it is constantly mentioned how those in the stormlands live their lives by the storm. Sloping buildings, and the materials they are built with. Purelake functions completely different due to their experience. Shin act even "stranger". As an aside, another literary device that is tossed around a lot is Chekov's Gun. I am not sure if you heard of that or not, but that is when something is mentioned, and then forgotten. So if the writer makes a point to mention a gun. Describe the gun and call the reader's attention to the gun, then the gun had better matter or fire at some point, otherwise it is just wasted page space.

  11. Right. So, rereading the docs, I feel as though I should clarify a few things: -I did not lynch Fura because of the Seeker false-claim. I did so because of the analysis I posted in-thread. -My gambits were basically designed to get better reads on people, and I mostly claimed Smoker to have a consistent fallback. I claimed Thug to Aman in the end in hopes of getting the Kandra, and to mislead him if he was evil. -Stick, I’d like to again congratulate you on your play. -My focus on Devotary at the end of D6 was both due to Araris’ flip, and because I felt I was being set up for a mislynch when Devotary claimed the Hazekiller. -My analysis actually wasn’t awful this game. I just need to re-learn a distrust of Aman, and that if I find a player suspicious C2 for working with a known Eliminator (Snip), I should look further into that instead of dropping it and hunting elsewhere. I was kind of thrown by the end of the game because everyone seemed suspicious, and I couldn’t sort through it all coherently despite doing more and more analysing and rereading the thread (which was responsible for my brief suspicions of Lum and Ventyl). -Thanks to Striker and Maill for running this, and putting up with my disfocused ramblings.

  12. I find myself agreeing with many of the sentiments laid out in this thread, but one thing I want to add is how grateful I am to have gotten the chance to get to know so many players. In the past I haven't really interacted much with Fifth, Devotary, Fura, or Lum, but I really enjoyed seeing them play and conversing with them outside of the thread! I managed to even learn a few new things about Araris, who I've always imagined as an ephemeral shadow in the vague shape of a pooh bear. And, of course, I want to praise Ventyl again for being the legend that he is. Such a welcome addition to our crew and I really hope to see him in more games! (Also sorry for betraying you and everything you and Magestar should exchange stories some day). ED1T: Oh, and of course, thanks for your hard work Stick, Snip and Coop! Without you three we wouldn't have been able to win the game! ED2T: And especially thank @Snipexefor this glorious piece of art! Make sure to upvote his next post you see if you like it!

  15. As Vin and Elend passed into the Beyond, they heard the soul of Ruin--Ati---screaming at them. "You fools! I was the only thing preventing you from suffering an even WORSE catastrophe! You will rue the day that Ruin ended..." ... [After Odium uses Ruin's contribution to Nightblood to free himself.] Kaladalinadolinar raised Cultivation's Drop for the last time, merging it with Odium's Drop, and Honor's. Rayse felt himself being sealed inside all three crystals. Waves of strange power emanated from him. One shot off towards the reddened stars. "You fools!" Odium screamed, disappearing into the Beyond. "I was the only thing stopping..." But his words vanished with him. ... [After Autonomy eats Cultivation.] Loudness Idaho sent the army of Shades against the Last Avatar. Raoden the XVIIth donned his Elantrian armor, which transformed him into a living building Spiritually tethered to the great city. Together, they broke through the spell Bavadin had cast on the Avatar's mind. The lost, innocent girl's soul slipped out of the poisoned silence inside Autonomy and her Shard. The Shades touched the Avatar's shell. Howling, Bavadin withered into nothingness. As she dissolved, she screamed, "You fools! Without me, you cannot stop the return of..." But her rage gurgled into oblivion. ... [After Hoid the Dark splits off Hoid.] Only the blazing mystery of the Final Gem sustained them as the Shard of Apocalypse inflamed the might of Hoid the Dark. Hoid the Light shuddered, trying to hold back the ultimate doomsday of the worlds. Lift the XVIIth laughed. "Guess I'll have to do it," she said strangely. Then she jumped into the heart of light's darkness. Suddenly, Hoid the Dark began transforming into long, writhing strands, of pressed rice and wheat. Lift the XVIIth consumed the strands, using their implicit Stormlight to shatter the Shard of Apocalypse. As his evil collapsed like a nova, Hoid the Dark screamed. "You fools! Now, Adonalsium will..." THE END?

  16. Hello everyone! Just checking in for an intro as I officially join the forums. Been a fan of Sanderson's works for about 4 years now, starting with Mistborn. Was lucky enough to meet him recently during the Skyward tour at the Tattered Cover bookstore. I am a hobbyist artist and just recently finished a Mistborn piece based on the original trilogy that I'll be sharing shortly and will hopefully have some other pieces from Mistborn (both Era 1 and Era 2) and Stormlight in the near future.

  17. Well played, folks. Village, I think we had our good moments, even if we never lynched any evils Shout out to Sart for blocking the elim's first serious attack (not biased at all by the fact that it was specifically saving me, no siree) and to Fura for sending a really good infodump PM before dying (even if I carried it with me to the grave not long after). If nothing else, we had one of the better dead docs Also, sorry Ark. Kandra!Aonar, you did good. Even in the dead doc you had us stumped for quite some time. I'm also quite impressed that you got people to buy a coinshot claim, even with role analysis in this game being of questionable value. Elims, what a beautiful execution. This is really the kind of defeat that makes me want to try again all the more. And lastly a big thanks to our GMs. Keeping these things running smoothly is a lot of work.

"Getting underground shouldn't be an issue with spatial manipulation, as long as we have a rough area to aim for." She smiled. "And I," she said, "should be able to take care of the searching." She lifted her hand, and slowly touched the table with her index finger, and a small wave of black bugs spread out from it. The backs of some of them opened up, revealing eyes.

  26. Aftermath Lafay was scared out of his mind. He was new, having only started working as a police officer a week or so before the rebel attacks started. Then, to top it all off, it turns out there were rebels hiding among them. If that wasn't enough, the revelation sent everyone on the force into a frenzy, and they were willing to kill each other because they thought someone was a rebel. He'd tried his best to Soothe everyone, but he wasn't that strong of a Soother anyway. Plus, without access to the outside world, he had started running out of vials of brass and needed to conserve them. Though, he thought he was onto something. With Sindale being killed, and Serdig being someone who had advocated for killing her several times, Lafay was certain that Serdig must be a rebel. As he was searching through Serdig's room, he heard footsteps coming down the hall. Quickly, he put everything in the room back to place, and ran out as quick as he could. On his way out, he bumped into Stick. "Oh, hey Stick," he said, "sorry for bumping into you!" He tried to walk around her, then felt a sharp pang in his side. It took him a second to notice that she was holding a gun in her hand, which was pressed against his side. He panicked, attempting to Soothe her, but he didn't have much brass reserves in him, so it burned out pretty quick. The last thing he saw was a barrel of a gun pointed at his head. ~ Stick walked through the halls, Coop trailing behind her. Once she'd killed Lafay, it had been pretty easy to disarm and subdue the rest of the police officers in the station. She reached the main door, and opened it up, letting in several rebels who had been watching the station and waiting for the signal of a gunshot. They quickly ran into the station, and she gave them orders to find Draff immediately. He'd disappeared at some point, and she didn't want him messing things up. With the police force mostly dead or trapped in the station, the city fell very quickly to the rebels. Both sides had few casualties, since the police quickly realized they didn't stand a chance against the rebels and surrendered. They held a public execution in the center of the Field of Rebirth for all the city officials who had neglected all of the common people of the city and the rest of the Elendel Basin during their rise to power. Finally, all people would be free from their tyranny. As the sun set over the city of Elendel, many began to wonder if this was the dawn of a new, glorious era. Or the beginning of the end. May Discord reign. ~ Ventyl was killed! They were a Police Soother! The Rebels have won! I'll admit, technically the rebels do not outnumber the police. However, there is no way the village could've won at this point, not unless one of the elims goes inactive. So I figured we should probably just end the game here. Player List: Here's all the links: Spec Doc Rebel Doc Kandra Doc Master Spreadsheet Master Rules ~ Okay, now for my thoughts on things. First, I'd like to thank everyone for being apart of this game, whether it was as a player, a spectator, or a moderator. I was honestly so nervous about running this game, considering it was my first, and you guys made this experience absolutely amazing for me. I wasn't sure how this game would go, and was honestly very worried people wouldn't like it, but I'm so glad that didn't happen. I'm actually almost getting a little teary eyed now that it's over. It's just been such an amazing experience, and I'm really sad that it's over now. I'd like to thank @Mailliw73 for being an amazing co-GM. Without him, this game wouldn't have been as crazily balanced role-wise as it was (more on that later), and I would've actually gone crazy trying to deal with running everything on my own. He definitely was able to help keep me on track when I kept trying to change rules because I noticed problems that were only in my head. Also, huge thanks to @Alvron for being the IM and giving some great advice when Maill and I needed it! Now, congratulations to @Amanuensis @_Stick_ @xinoehp512 @Snipexe and @Coop772 for winning. You guys played an amazing elim game, and if it weren't for @Aonar getting some lucky (or unlucky) shots off on a couple of you, you guys probably would've won this game ages ago. Plus, it was awesome seeing you guys plot things out in the elim doc. And the jokes in there were pretty great. Speaking of Aonar, I guess I should probably reveal the Kandra mechanics for those who don't go through the master rules: Plus, if they didn't have a spike in at the time they were scanned, they got scanned as vanilla since Kandra was technically a faction. Also, I'm sorry @Ax's Boyfriend that you got lynched D1. I was definitely hoping you'd be able to get some use out of the MB role, considering I didn't add a Coinshot at all. Alas, the Gods of Luck and Chance really seemed to want you dead. Huge shout out to @Fifth Scholar @Devotary of Spontaneity @MrakeDarshall and @Furamirionind for all the amazing analysis (though most of Fura's was mostly in the spec doc). Even if you guys were often pretty wrong, your analysis was awesome and is the kind of stuff I aspire to be able to do someday! Thank you so much @Young Bard and @Coop772 for pinch hitting for @Walin and Snip! Even though neither of you got to do very much, it was greatly appreciated! Also, gotta love the fact that my brother @Ventyl managed to break the Tineye role in his first game by making a group PM with literally everyone. XD I wish I could give shout outs to everyone, but I'm kind of running out of time, so I'm just gonna thank everyone else for playing and making this game awesome! @Lumgol @Araris Valerian @Rathmaskal @Sart @Straw I'll post more of my thoughts on stuff later, but I should probably just go ahead and post this now.

  27. A stormlight chess set. Might be better later on in the series so we have more representatives of each order but the windrunners or stonewards could be the pawns (due to their numbers, not a commentary on the order), Could make the bondsmiths the King and or Queen (depending on who steps up later). Elsecaller and WIllshaper could be each knight. Bishop could be skybreaker and windrunner or dustbringer. Rook could be edgedancer and dustbringer or windrunner. Having trouble thinking of where the lightweavers and truthwatchers should go.

  28. The Lord ruler has access to his full power and all metals including atium. Szeth has access to a large amount of stormlight, plus access to all of the surges granted by swallowing yelig-nar. Like the fused, he has access to large amounts of voidlight provided by ba-ado-mishram. He has nightblood, and let's assume that he also gets ahold of a set of shardplate. He has had time to master all of his surges. Given this unlikely, but very possible scenario in which szeth acquires yelig-nar and shardplate, I honestly think that Szeth stands a fair chance against TLR. From stormlight/voidlight he has healing nearly on the level of gold compounding, and the benefits of pewter, plus the boost of the shardplate on top of that. TLR will have to hit him repeatedly to break his shardplate and even do damage. He can counteract the atium with lightweaving to produce an effect similar to what happened when 2 allomancers burning atium face off. This could also serve to make it difficult for TLR to tell where szeth actually is. He can transport himself into the cognitive realm if he needs to avoid an attack by TLR, and could probably reappear behind/next to him. He can soulcast, potentially even soulcasting the air around TLR to stone or something like that which would probably cause TLR to expend a lot of his power to escape either through compounding pewter or tapping weight. And of course if he actually manages to touch TLR, he can harm him in a variety of ways, such as burning him to a crisp with division (though he can probably heal from this a few times at least), lashing him into space (WoB has confirmed this is possible, let's see how long his gold can keep him alive in 1° Kelvin temperatures), or of course just scratching him with nightblood. I highly doubt gold compounding could heal him from that. He can manipulate the matter surrounding him, etc through surges like a bondsmith or a stonewarden. His flight makes him more mobile than TLR. The main thing I see TLR has going for him in this matchup is his feruchemical speed, not sure how szeth could counteract that, but it would still take TLR quite a few hits to harm him. He could potentially soothe/riot him, but szeth had shown that he can fight effectively while in great emotional distress (weeping as he easily slaughters soldiers and shardbearers).

  31. I don't think people's beliefs affect the power of a Shard. A Shard's power is investiture, and that is, as far as we've seen, a set amount for each Shard, divided up evenly among the 16 at the Shattering. At most, acting in a way that aligns you to the intent of that Shard makes it easier for that Shard to influence you, or ties you more closely to that Shard. The latter being not particularly important unless you're trying to take up the power of that Shard or trying to attract the attention of it/its Splinters/etc or something along those lines.

  34. Szeth is Jasnah's age, so it's more like twenty or so I'd assume. Okay so - humans on Ashyn were not Surgebinding. Ashyn had its own magic system that follows completely different rules. Ashyn blew up because Odium managed to convince a few people to put a series of events in play that would further his plans. And, Ashyn's current magic system has users be able to use magic when they're sick, implying a morbid sort of proto-Nahel bond, and likely a bond based magic system existed before they made the floor lava. The Fused become insane because they died a lot. Specifically, I think this is because of their routine being killed by Shardblades which messes with their Spiritweb, but that's just a theory. What we do know is that Fused dying over and over again makes them insane. So, I don't think it's overuse of the magic

  35. Yeah ... there is an argument by some moral/ethical perspectives for killing Elhokar being defensible, at least given the situation as of Words of Radiance. One can argue the legitimacy of the Alethi monarchy in the first place; Elhokar just inherited it from Gavilar, who got it by conquest rather than any kind of consent of the governed. (Of course, if you go back far enough, every place was conquered from somebody...) But turning to Odium's side and killing Jezrien, that's clearly over the line into real evil. (And anyway, by the time Elhokar actually got killed, he'd realized his failings and took steps to resolve them, by giving higher authority to Dalinar... So even there...)

  38. Got mine too. I'm on a model making and sculpture panel (I do art sculpture, not model sculpture or cosplay sculpture so...), a post apocalyptic panel, a craft panel, and a gender panel. I feel qualified for one of those. One. Should be a ride!

  41. Shallan has the fate of the world on her mind. Excuse her for not being interested in the army around her. Sadeas is abnormally aggressive even for himself throughout both books. His disregaurd of Kaladin comes through good old prejudice that clouds his judgement. He did not actually think Adolin would be a subordinate he was likely just trying to rile him up and get him to do something stupid. Sadeas was foolish to rely on Adolin's restraint but even Adolin himself was surprised by his own reaction.

  42. It's up on his reddit! Loving the sound of the progress he's made. A book more in line with Way of Kings than WoR/OB sounds great! He's also starting to think a 2020 release may be possible. Personally I'd be ecstatic for that, but I'm more than prepared for 2021 if he needs the time.
