  1. Aftermath- I Will Return Bastard had long been frustrated. He had been the leader of this rebellion. He had personally shot down many pilots. But ironically, his guns just weren't strong enough. He had failed too many times to shoot down a ship, simply because they hadn't been damaged beforehand. But now, he was caught. They had finally kicked him out, depriving him of any way of overthrowing their tyranny. He sighed, and looked behind him. And there, also waiting to get on the elevator to go down into the caverns, was Steel. Except, well, he wasn't wearing handcuffs, and wasn't surrounded by guards. Steel was alone. He had no way to talk to the man, only a few feet away. But he did look at him. And met his eyes briefly. They were both from the same cavern. Bastard knew that Steel had kept his conflicts out of the situation. But he was still from Bountiful cavern, and had felt guilty fighting against the rebellion that originated from where his family lived. Steel broke the eye contact, passing where Bastard was being held. He would be taken down separately under armed guard, to be put in prison along with the rest of the dissidents. More evidence of the tyranny of Ironsides. But still, despite Steel's betrayal, Bastard respected the man. He nodded in his direction, even though he was no longer looking. Bad Wolf sat on the roof of the hangar. The krell weren't coming back. The lifebuster wasn't coming back. It was probably just a brief respite. And she missed M-Bot. Where had he gone with Doomslug? What had happened? She had been waiting there for a while, when someone else climbed up to join her. Junior. Junior didn't say anything, but also looked over the surface. It was dreadfully boring, pocketed with blast holes and rocks. "Are you going to choose a new ship?" Junior finally asked. "I don't know. I don't know that I want to. We have no leader, I lost my friend, and what for?" Bad Wolf replied despondently. "I don't know either. We'll probably be folded into a new Flight, I guess." Junior shrugged. Bad Wolf just shook her head. Junior left the roof, and Bad Wolf continued to watch. And was watching as M-Bot appeared out of nowhere just outside of the base. The ship appeared midair, and bounced on the ground several times. She gasped in shock, and then jumped off the roof. It was a long jump, but she stuck the landing well, then took off running. M-Bot was not looking good. But Bad Wolf was more than willing to fix him again. And Doomslug was inside, fluting exultantly next to a pile of blue and yellow mushrooms. Mushrooms colored like her? What in the world? But Bad Wolf didn't question it as she embraced Doomslug. Doomslug fluted awkwardly in return. Steel descended into the caverns, as Alta base disappeared above him. It would be a long while before he saw it again. But he promised himself he would return. Even if his medical procedure left him without being able to fly, he could at least be on the ground directing ships. Continuing to resist the Krell. In the crowded elevator, he held up what he had been given by Ironsides. A gold DDF pin. To remember. He smiled, and put it in his pocket. Indeed. He would be back. ___________________ The Pilots have won the game! (barely) Master Sheet Dead Doc Rebel Doc 1. Snipexe, "Scissors" Pilot, Wingmate to Joe2. Xinoehp512, "Llerk" Pilot3. 4. Night 1 - An Unfortunate Turn of Events Draff had needed to leave during the discussions over the course of the day. He couldn’t stand to be around all those people as they turned on each other, one by one. We’re supposed to be a team, he thought to himself, yet now we’re all so quick to judge every word we say, in case someone thinks we might be a rebel. Already, there had been a slight panic as several people had started to question Wilco over how he’d phrased one of his sentences. Someone had even thrown a folded up piece of green paper at him during the chaos. Eventually, the crowd calmed down, but it quickly spread to two targets, Thomas and Arr. When Draff came back to the central room, he found Arr sprawled across the ground, his face bloodied. Quickly, he ran over to check on him. Thankfully, he was still breathing and seemed to be conscious, though it looked like he’d have to be sent home soon. “Why did they do this to you?” Draff asked him. Arr coughed, struggling to catch his breath. “They thought I must’ve been a rebel, so they ganged up on me.” He paused as coughed again, this time harder, “They wouldn’t believe me, no matter how many times I told them I was innocent.” Draff sighed. He spent a little while longer questioning Arr, but he’d been beat up pretty badly and couldn’t remember exactly who had started the beating. Finally, Draff helped get Arr to the infirmary so he could be patched up and sent home. Draff had a sinking feeling that tonight could be even worse. ~ Walin(1): Ark1002 Mrake Darshall(2): Araris Valerian, Fifth Scholar Ark1002(2): Mrake Darshall, Ventyl Devotary of Spontaneity(1): Sart Ark1002 was lynched! 9. There's a trope in a lot of fantasy stories of technological stagnation. A civilization might have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years but will be using mostly the same technology for all that time. But in TWOK, we see an elderly ardent couple make a discovery about spren, and the armorsmiths of Jah Keved made those half-shard shields that can stop a Shardblade. Even with the upheaval caused by the Recreance, the fall of the Hierocracy, and various wars, the people of Roshar are discovering and inventing new things. There's a sense of progress, and I really like seeing that in a fantasy novel.

  12. I will admit, I love the fact that no one seems evil enough to lynch me on D1, hopefully the elims won’t decide to murder me, because that would be unfortunate . Anyways, after reading through these post for the last 20 minutes I am very confused, but I think I have a somewhat accurate summary of what has happened so far. Aman and Fith were both suspicious of eachother, but then after some explaining from both parties, they came to a half agreement Lumgol thinks Aman is suspicious considering how defensive he seemed, but Aman said he felt calm, though to me wouldn’t that be what an elim would say? Random poke votes, and Mrakes vote on Ark1002 using RNG Okay, so this is my beginniner analyst. If I’ve gotten anything wrong tell me, but from my understanding these are the things we are looking at to try an find who the Elims are. EDIT My brother has read my post and said, “It’s not really giving your thoughts on anything,” So I’ve deicided to do that. Right now, I don’t really have any big suspicions on anybody. My vote on Ark is more just of a poke vote, though after reading Lumgols post about Aman, I have a 2/10 suspicion rating on him. Mostly, because of him saying that he felt calm, which could easily be a ploy, but besides that he hasn’t done much to make me suspicious of him, which is why I’ve given him a low suspicion rating or SR.

  15. I honestly think it's one of the most fascinating things in Stormlight. I can't even begin to consider where it'll end up going. I keep thinking "What if this is part of the plan, is this actually a deviation or was it planned all along", it's great. Could Cultivation have had a part in Taravangian creating the Diagram? Is Taravangian working with Odium a major part that will lead to Odium's downfall? Is the Diagram even finding a path to stopping Odium? Is it a path towards Odium's victory? This is why I shouldn't think about complicated things at two in the morning.

  19. Yay for Pride & Pride Stories :). I just found out my ten year high school reunion is on Pride in my city - hoping I can catch both - thankfully I should be able to fit the Parade in at least. As a funny story - in my first Pride Parade, years ago, my friends and I decided to walk in it with multi-colored shirts stating "We are just Froot Loops in a world full of Cheerios". It was the year before the parade really got big in the city, so there was still more people walking than watching, and most people just walked because it was fun. Somehow, my friends and I ended up near the front of the parade, and on the cover of the local newspaper. My grandma (who I had only recently come out to) brought it out at dinner, excited I was "in the paper" even though I wasn't even mentioned by name and it was a total fluke, haha. Hope everyone enjoys the month :).

  20. Lizanne nodded thoughtfully and then turned around, towards the hut. The eye was here. It was hunting her. It was coming closer and closer, hidden from her view, but it was there. She almost hastened, when she started to limp towards the door, her leg hurting, but her fear of the eye spruning her on. They had to give it a try. They had to. Otherwise she would die, the eye would eat her, it would control her. Her heart beat a fast rhythm in her chest, fast than her steps, as fast as she wished she could go. Survive. There was no other option, but to survive. The hut. When she was inside, the eye maybe would stay outside of it, she would be safe from it's view, if only for a few minutes. Every heartbeat out of its glance was a good one. Ignoring the horses she lifted a hand and knocked on the door, her eyes darting behind her, above her, next to her. Nothing. But it was here, she knew it. It was following her, reaching for her. If only they would open the door soon. Maybe they could fight it, maybe they knew who it was. @Voidus

  22. Laurelai stumbled into the alleyway at last, her hair hung, clinging to the sides of her head and water dripped both from it and from the Alethi dress that she'd been wearing. She bent over briefly in pain before coughing up a large volume of water. Cursed underwater Alleys. Why did they ever think those would be a good idea? She scanned her surroundings briefly, managing to pick out Lita quickly enough. But her partner in conversation was a little more of a surprise. The familiar bowler hat and suit, Mac had joined them in the alley. Why is Mac here? Checking up on us? Did we mess anything up? Miss something? She gave a small deferential nod towards Mac, frowning a little as the motion sent another stream of water down her face. "Sorry, hit Alley U-347 on the way." She explained, gesturing towards her soaked form. "I'll just be a moment." She closed her eyes, concentrating for a moment. Recent history like that was relatively easy to change, especially something like the path she'd taken to get here, she didn't even need different motivations, just a different chance. Her hair returned to its previous well-groomed appearance, her clothes dried and smoothed out, and the droplets of water vanished from her skin.

  23. My opinion on D1 lynches is fairly settled, true—except in extreme cases, I’ll value discussion over the lives of villagers, including my own; I’m unaware if you’ve played games with me before when I do this, but I tend to be okay with mislynches on me if the discussion and reads surrounding the lynch and my death are more productive than a pursuit of a suspicion of mine who I’m not certain is an elim; if they’re not, discussion is further wasted and there’s a major unresolved point of conflict. I don’t know how much of that made sense, but in essence this might amount to a difference in playstyle or preferences. While I’ll acknowledge that, it doesn’t particularly reduce my suspicion of you. As for your next three paragraphs, I basically agree completely with what you’re saying here, and recognise that I maybe (probably) misinterpreted your statement; however, I’d like to briefly defend at least some bandwagon votes—for instance, if a player presents a compelling argument, and another person follows their argument but adds “I disagree with part X of your analysis, but quote Y from this Player is another reason to find them suspicious,” or something along those lines, that’s fine as it still adds to discussion despite bandwagoning. Even players who do simply sheep still help more than by not voting at all because it’s easier to track who they’re sheeping and why. So bandwagon votes are a little more acceptable in my view. That said, original analysis should always be encouraged. My apologies as to how that statement came off; it wasn’t my intent, but in my defence I’ve participated in enough discussion on the value of D1 lynching as to be slightly weary on the whole topic. Perhaps it’s because it seems like circular discussion which simply exists for its own sake, or because the constant debate is not changing my views, but discussion on this sort of thing always seems to me like an elaborate digression which gives players an excuse to comment on something which is generally NAI and not related to the actual business of finding Eliminators. Anyone who brings it up, therefore, makes me slightly suspicious, but your explanation as to why you did so is reasonable, so you get a pass. An increased emphasis on the alignment flip was more implicit from your qualification that The idea here is that if people don’t have a genuine reason to vote, the D1 lynch should be abstained from because friendly fire is the main risk; hence, the killing and alignment flip are the most important products of a D1 lynch. Conversely, I see the lack of discussion generated by a no-lynch as more harmful than the friendly fire that a lynch can sometimes create, and therefore the greater risk; again, an emphasis on discussion and analysis over alignment flips and death, which seems to be your main focus. We are of a similar mind, I’d agree, but certainly not the same; indeed, it’s in this paragraph in which I take the largest issue from your stance on the D1 lynch. You say that So my issue with this is that I agree with you. The more a player is alive, the more chances they have to slip, the more we get a clearer picture of their alignment, etc. You’re correct. But they only need to create the kind of content which is worth analysing if they know that there’s a credible threat to them in the form of a lynch. The lynch, as you point out in your next paragraph, is wonderful at catching Eliminators. But it’s also a bludgeon, usable for prodding people into giving their opinions on other players and to pressure those players we find to be suspicious or quiet; however, this important function is scrapped if a predetermination is made that we shouldn’t lynch. Without retaining the ability and the threat of a kill, the village is unable to force Eliminators and indolent villagers into the sort of analysable discussions that eventually allow us to lynch them. Therefore, keeping them around longer, as you propose, doesn’t necessarily increase the amount of “quality” content which a suspicious player puts out, and simply gives the Eliminators more time to determine who should die (rather than the village), without really helping the village along in their quest. Re: friendly fire, I agree that nobody really appreciates dying, but death is ultimately what advances the game for both villagers and Eliminators (after all, we signed up for a game which explicitly promises that we’d get the chance to kill our friends ). Without lynching today, we would grant the Eliminators (and the judgement of any vigilante villagers) the only say in who is to die. That’s less fair to the killed villagers than a lynch in which they may participate and give reasons and arguments for why they should be allowed to live. I do understand your philosophy here, and your aversion to what you believe is an uninformed risk. But a D2 lynch without a D1 lynch discussion and result is just as uninformed as the regular D1 lynch, and only serves to set back discussion. And while every villager lynched does put the Eliminators closer to victory, the only way we kill and catch Eliminators is via the lynch (or by vigilantes, but they’re less predictable and not something most of the village can participate in). Our method of killing does put villagers at risk, but it’s also the only way to accomplish our win condition; therefore, sometimes we pay the price which a mislynch exacts. My apologies if I seem callous, but the risk you speak of is part of SE and never really goes away. As for my views on Devotary and Rath? I initially suspected Devotary for what seems in hindsight to be nothing more than misunderstood/messy phrasing (perhaps here you’d draw an analogy ), but have since moved my read back up to neutral with perhaps a slight elim tilt. She’s not said or done much to earn my trust, and my initial suspicion of her comments is kind of lingering. I’m not entirely sure why people are pursuing Rath for the role-madness comment—based on the last few LGs, it seems a fair assumption to make, though on the off-chance he’s both wrong and village he did paint a target on his back. As with Devotary, however, I’ve seen little which makes me trust him, and would probably like more analysis on players from him (though that goes for pretty much everybody).

  24. Well, the rules were obviously put out before the exact number of players could be determined. So... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what do you mean? While I think it's sometimes fine to have a no-lynch in QFs and stuff where the games move quicker, I think they're actually quite helpful in LGs. Especially in hindsight in the later stages of the game. I tend not to use many emojis on the Shard because it changes the /:Ps to that overly joyous weird smiley thing. I've seen some people try and cheat that by using alternatives such as =P (joe) and : P (Fura), but even those don't come close to the power of a normal /:P (ignoring the slash). So instead, I only use /:Ps at the end of sentences so that it kinda merges with the full-stop like this.:P I do sometimes also use but to me it has a different meaning than /:P does. /:P makes stuff sound a little less serious and lighthearted (so I tend to use it a lot on discord/docs) whereas is more like "HAHAH NICE" I hope you understand. nvm my question above From what you're suggesting, we're likely to get a lynch anyway. Just not a very solid one. Which...might be useful now that I think about it. If the votes are close enough and the elims have vote manip they might feel the need to use it to prevent a teammate from getting lynched. D1 they probably don't know any anybody's roles aside from their own, so it's not like they'd prefer to lynch one villager over another. So if they use it at all, we can probably infer that it was done to save a teammate. But then again, now that I've mentioned it this can turn into an IKYK. Whatever. XD *Takes note. Just cuz you generally get a good idea of who you can trust as the game progresses.:P Nice. I will probably cast a vote soon, but for now I'll just note that this Fifth and Aman interaction seems interesting. My gut says it's almost certainly not a w/w interaction. Probably town/town, w/t or t/w.

  26. I'll admit, I think you came into my posts with your opinion already settled, and thus glossed over some details / made some incorrect assumptions. Like your first sentence, for example. This is what you said. And this is what I said. It seems that when I said "if people have a genuine reason to vote," you took that to mean "if you don't have a genuine reason to vote, don't." I think the first question you should be asking is what kind of votes constitute as genuine. Examples include Mrake's vote on Rath for the role-madness assumption, or even your vote on me (despite me personally thinking its silly). What matters in your case is that you're providing reasoning and making an argument. Which makes non-genuine votes something like poke votes, which I expressed my opinion on already, or bandwagon votes, where players don't think for themselves and instead sheep others. Let's keep in mind that in the very last game I played, I was barely paying attention at all and hadn't been in a game of SE for at least half a year if not longer, and yet I managed to vote on an eliminator almost immediately because they didn't vote genuinely. I noticed they poke voted the very last player not to post (me) toward the end of the first day, and that there was no real energy or teeth behind it, which suggested to me that the player wasn't interested in solving the game at all. Drive to solve, honestly, is probably the biggest indication of villagerness to me. If I see that people are putting real effort into their posts, in analyzing other players and forming arguments, than I'm more willing to believe they're village aligned. It is very difficult to craft that sort of thing as an eliminator, or at the very least to do it without any tells or evil intent bleeding through, which means if I see it, I'm going to put you into the "contemplate later" pile and focus more on the people who aren't doing anything to help the village. Also, as for this statement... Considering I've been out of the SE loop for a very long time and have no clue how more than half the players stand on these kinds of topics... then yes, I'm going to bring it up, because how can I play if I don't know the people I'm playing with? I just reread my posts and I can't find a point where I stated "the main value we garner from the lynch is the alignment flip." I do believe the most relevant statements I made to this subject were. This is almost exactly the same thing as... We are of the same mind, Fifth, which is why I think your vote is a bit silly. We both right here agree it's the discussion we need. And in my honest opinion, killing any player who only had a single turn of this game to interact with others, village or eliminator, net's the village practically nothing. The longer a person lives, the more they communicate with others, the more clues are left behind, the more chance they have to prove themselves, and in turn, the more time other people have to judge this player and make their opinions known. On the subject of friendly fire, ever since my participation in the MU Championships, I have consistently done my best to only vote on eliminators. Although I haven't kept track of the specifics, I know that my rate of success is pretty dang high. I'm not saying this to toot my own horn. I'm saying this so you understand my mindset. Every innocent life is precious. Sure this might just be a game, but that's the way I see it. Although it's a risk people sign up for, who honestly enjoys dying? I know I don't. And because I'm a naturally empathetic person, I have issues killing other people. "Do only onto others what you want done to yourself," right? While there's no hard feelings between factions (we're just doing our job), I still take this philosophy into account with every post I write and every action I take. Not to mention the fact that every villager we lynch diminishes our power and gives the eliminators a better chance to win. It's not about me being unwilling to accept risks. I just am unwilling to accept bad or uninformed risks. And most of the time, D1 lynches are exactly that. For what it's worth, this is most certainly a tunnel. Yourself and Mrake have proven yourselves enough to get sent to the probably-village, "contemplate later" pile. Even if you're on the wrong track (and that this particular track has made me your target), I can see you're wandering around in search of tracks. Not to mention you dove head first into one of the more controversial ones. More often than not, eliminators prefer the easy lynches this early. ED1T: Now can you tell me about your opinion on Devotary and Rath?

He saw the last Krell chasing Topsy, so who could have hit him? He accelerated to Mag-4, and then quickly decelerated while pulling the nose upwards. The grav caps flared in protest. The ship shuddered as another destructer blast took off his own destructers. He kept decelerating until the nose of the ship reached 65° relative to the ground. He felt himself losing control of the ship as it reached Mag-0.25. Then he rolled left, pointing the nose back down at the ground and accelerated. Once he felt the contol again, he pulled up. He saw Bastard's ship behind him, having fired those shots. Having found the final traitor, Junior fired his destructers at the traitor. Nothing happened. Not being able to do anything to attack Bastard, Junior flew to the Hanger as fast as he could, where the rest of his flight had gone to report what he had learned. Once Junior arrived, he saw Bastard had beaten him. Looking around himself, he saw Bastard, Bad Wolf, and Topsy-Turvy. The last surviving members of the flight. One Pilot One Pilot who had her own ship One Mechanic And finally, one Traitor. It seemed so obvious now. The reason no one came forward to lead, the reason no one had claimed the Flight Leader position, was because one was never assigned in the first place. Junior looked back at his friends with a sad smile. One filled with the relief of survival and victory, yet the sadness of remembering all his fallen flight-mates. "We never needed a squad leader in the first place. We all are our squad leaders." "Speaking of which, I still don't think we have a flight name!"

  31. It seems like there's been a number of cases of this happening again, so just to reiterate: Please do not use intro threads as a platform purely to recruit people to the RP. If the entire goal of your post is simply to try to get someone into the RP then you shouldn't be posting it there. If you make a post genuinely welcoming someone and happen to mention the existence of RPs that's fine, but if your post comprises of 90% an attempt to recruit someone into the RP and just the word 'welcome' at the top of it then I'd say the motives there are pretty clearly not in line with what the intro threads are actually about.

  35. Yesterday Sanderson was quite active over on Reddit, and answered many questions on a variety of topics. Including the amount of Shin spread throughout Roshar (more than I thought) But, one bit of news I am excited about is this bit on new Novellas in the Stormlight Archive First, what Sanderson said he was writing on his Germany trip, and the question afterward: Sanderson: “I suppose I shouldn't be coy, as there aren't many stories this could be. Yes, it's a sequel to Sixth of the Dusk. I've spoken about wanting to do one. Unfortunately, I only had time to get a little ways into it. I suspect I'll pick it back up on the flight to Spain in July. And if I don't finish it then, I have another long haul flight in October to visit France then Israel. It's generally hard to do Stormlight on flights like that; the books are too intricate, and the distractions too multitudinous. But novellas tend to work, so we'll see if I can get this one done on these trips.” The question from ArgentSun: “Huh, it (sic) had assumed Rock's or Rysn's novella would be your airplane project. I guess taking a break from Stormlight by doing more Stormlight doesn't really work. Can you share your current plan for these two too?” And the response: “Still hoping to do both of them sometime this year, but we'll see. I would hate for Edgedancer to be the only X.5 novella for Stormlight. Feels more right if I can get those, and the Lopen one happening between books one and two, done some day soon. The Rock one kind of needs to happen, so we'll see. I need to get back on schedule with the main book first, though. That takes precedence over all of these smaller projects.” A question from Hermit: “This may be too much to ask. For Rock's, is this a prequel in his homeland? Post Oathbringer, coming to terms with his actions? Something different all together maybe.. I find either very exciting.” And the response: ”It is post Oathbringer, involving him returning to his homeland.” So! Three new novellas at some point. 1. Lopen, between WoK and WoR. 2. Rock, after Oathbringer but before Rhythm ( Super hype!!!) 3. Rysn, no more info on this one. I would love it to be between Oathbringer and Rhythm as well Also, it sounded to me like the first one written will be Rock’s novella. King Rock?

  37. Tels walked back from his pillaging and looting, weighed down by spheres, coins, clips, and other kinds of currency. He let out a whistle as he approached the giant building, where the force field had seemed to splitter out and die, like an old man taking his last breaths. This was the home of PlasmaCore, the guys everybody wanted to stop. So, without further ado, he stepped inside, and went looking for PlasmaCore members to take out. @anybody/group that wants another guy on the team to help take down PlasmaCore

  39. Here's a new (kind of strange) character. It's sort of two characters. One is the actual character and the second is the identity used when outside of the alleys. Note: They aren't simply pretending to be weaker outside the alleys, their noted powers are all they've got access to when the Sudiov nerfs are in effect. Note 2: There are some inconsistencies with her, including a few things about her abilities that don't function how Epic abilities should function. These are there on purpose, read the spoilered part at the end for the reason why.

  41. How do you know that he wanted to portray it as evil? I think what you're coming across is that you expected it to be evil, because that's the trope, and he subverted your expectations. So he didn't forget, he did it intentionally. We have a couple of WoBs about Shu-Dereth. They're pretty interesting, but they don't mention anything about it being evil: https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?tags=shu-dereth

  44. Sometime this year he says. That's a lot of writing to do for a single year. When does he sleep? I'm mostly excited about the ones for Rock and Rysn. Especially Rysn. I've spent three books wishing she had more page time. But by the look of things, by the time this series is finished I'll need an entire bookshelf exclusively for Stormlight.
