  2. My latest shardbearer, this time a truthwatcher riding into battle on a ryshadium. I will readily admit this was one of the hardest things I have ever drawn, horses have unusual anatomy and I have never drawn one before. I did a lot of erasing which is why parts of the image are a tad blotchy.

  3. Avast! I have been bested. Well played, Paranoid King. You too, John203. Now that I’m out, I feel obliged to over-enthusiastically cheer for someone, whether they want me to or not. And since I’ve already gotten into the head-space of that crazy mistborn lad, I might as well root for him. So spread the news!: YEEHAW! I’m hopping on the Gemmel bandwagon. So, WOOOOOOOOO!!!!! RHYME THEIR FACES OFF, GEMGEM! Note: This doesn’t mean I won’t submit horribly difficult words that you'll be forced to rap with. You’re still going to have to rhyme with ‘marshmallow’. It fits too well with the whole ‘roasting’ theme not to submit it. But I will provide unhelpful "heartfelt" encouragement from the sidelines while you do so.

  4. Hey there everybody! I am very excited to start this forum thing. Unfortunately I understand only about a third of what I've seen so far, but that's no biggie! It can't be that hard, right? I mean, I have no experience in social media either, so this is all very new to me. BUT. I will learn. Ignorance is only a small speed bump in the highway of life, and I'm going a solid 12 mph right now, so I think I'll be good. I don't think I will be on here SUPER often, but I will do my best. After all, school is hard, and I'm one of those people who usually stays up till midnight studying. And speaking of which, I will have you know TRUTHLESS OF SHINOVAR, that I have been at school all day, and literally made my account like 17 hours ago, so give me a break. Plus you haven't even really explained to me what I'm supposed to do on here. All I know that I can do is post a "topic", change my profile picture, and give people points (although I've only half figured out that part). But it is okay. I forgive you for being hasty, and pardon you for all your sins. Including the time you dumped a bowl of spaghetti on my head (hehe that actually never happened, but no one on here knows that). Okay. I think that's all I have to say for now, so if you don't mind i'm going to go study for the next four and a half hours. Oh yea P.S., The Cosmere rocks.

  6. I was introduced to T H E C O S M E R E about a year ago by my cousin and best friend (You may know him on here as Truthless of Shinovar), and I'm excited to try out this whole forum thing! I kind of live under a rock, so this is my first time doing anything like this; I've heard of forums, but I might need help figuring out how it works. It seems kinda like a large community blog? But you know what, I'm not even quite sure I know what a blog does either, so I guess this'll be an adventure! Any who, I can't wait to find out what everyone's saying about Brandon Sanderson's books and join the party!

  9. As Snip waited for Cadoxi's response, Derin walked up to the Venture Armorer. Snip turned to him. "Didn't I tell you you could take your break? If you aren't then go help out the lad in by the coat rack. By the looks of what he's doing, he'll knock over a whole row a merchandise! You and I both know Derk that we cannot afford that in trying times like these." It was indeed true, there was man, well really a boy in a man's clothing, struggling in vain to properly hang up a suit coat.

  10. Snip watched as a large heavy set man walked up to the counter. He prepared his usual spiel about the sale on Satin and the shears, but paused when he heard what the man was saying. "Does any of your apparel have hidden pockets capable of holding a medium sized self-defense weapon?" the man finished. This was Cadoxi then. He looked him over. Basic Skaa soldier's gear, though it was well oiled. That would have to change. He could not have a man seen regularly entering his shop wearing such unfashionable drab clothing like that! Even Derick wore nicer clothes. As his thoughts turned to what would be the proper suit size and style for a guard, not too stylish as to outshine the noble, but subtle and understated, he remembered that he had a response phrase to utter, to verify that it was him. "Of course, but it will require custom measurements." @Cadmium Compounder

  11. It had been nearly a week since a deal had been struck with the fabric shop, and Cadoxi's first shipment of scissors should have been available for sale today. It was time to formally introduce himself in person to his business associate. Walking up to the shop, he saw what looked like good news. There were crowds of people on the street. It seemed like a busy day in this part of Luthadel. That was good. More people to spread the word. As he entered, he had the pleasant greeting of a few quiet shoppers spread around the store, and another person leaving with a package that appeared to carry a pair of 14-inch long obsidian Shears. Almost certainly the Omega-large. He didn't understand the purpose of that size personally. But people sure liked to buy large, so he agreed to make them. Personally, he preferred the 10-inch, Medium. The shears were all easily detachable, to be used as daggers, or atachable to be used as simple shears. Turing his attention back to the store, he noticed that there was an unusual amount of satin available for sale. Are times really that bad? Cadoxi wondered to himself. It was a good thing Cadoxi always made his own clothing out of the scrap leather at the armory. He always had leather outfits, and most of the time, his outfits could have passed for fine leather. At last, there was a break at the front counter, so he approached the man that must have been Snip. "Mighty fine shop you've got here" He began. Does any of your apparel have hidden pockets capable of holding a medium sized self-defense weapon?" That was the code phrase. As long as the man was Snip, and Snip recognized the code phrase, they would be able to more freely discuss the more...questionable... parts of their business. @Snipexe

  14. Hello! This is my first character Name: Cyna Jing Physical Characteristics: About 5’2, scrawny, pretty weak. She has short black hair and often wears a beat-up brown jacket with little rocks or slips of paper in the pockets that she rubs when nervous. Investiture: Misting, can burn tin Skills: She’s flexible, can run really fast and really far, and good at climbing. Has an excellent memory and can remember and apply concepts easily. Equipment: Vials of tin Weakness: She’s physically weak. She can’t cope with change very well- she adheres to a specific routine, and any changes in it can lead to her thoughts spiraling rapidly. She’s easily overwhelmed. Family: A mother, a father, a younger sister Home Planet: Scadrial Backstory: When she was a child, her family fled Luthadel after the assassination of the Lord Ruler, when the instability started. She was raised in a quiet forest, trained to burn tin, and stumbled upon an entrance to the Alleyverse one day. Guild: Unaffiliated Psyche: Paranoid, guarded, curious Personality: Always analyzing a situation before jumping into it, cautious, loves to learn (on a related note, she wants to find the answers but she’s too afraid to actually go out there and find them), methodical Appearance: [The artistically inclined are welcome to include an illustration of their character.] Theme Song: ??? Fighting Style: She’d prefer not to engage in a fight. Usually, she bolts at the first sign of a threat, but if she must fight, she’s on the defense, evading attacks and trying to find an opening to get out.

  16. Zane crept around in the alleyways of Luthadel, following his God's directions. "Where am I even going?" Stop asking questions. Just follow the directions and wait patiently. Zane eventually came upon a small closed off area, which was only led into by alleys. He waited there, as instructed. Burning tin, he heard the clear steps of another individual approaching. He didn't see much of the person, as they were underneath a cloak. But he did see two spikes in his hands. Were those duralumin? He began to react, but then he felt God's will to not move, so he did not. The individual moved swiftly then, with Zane unable to move, and stabbed themselves and Zane with spikes. Zane lost something in that moment. Who was he? Where was he? Then, awareness returned. But he was looking at his body from inside the cloaked one's body. He began to panic. What was this? Where were his powers? You are too recognizable. I need your skills, but not with that face. You now can move quietly, and my new servant will kill. But... his powers. They were gone! You can aquire new ones. Simply find some mistings, and I will grant you their powers. His panic was now in full swing. How would Vin know this was him? Would she even love him anymore? What would she think if the person now in his body, using his powers, didn't know who she was? What if she went back to Elend? Vin does my work. Be at peace. Elend will not survive, and you will be returned to your proper body at the end of this. Trembling, Zane explored his new body. Did he have any powers? He wasn't sure, whoever this was hadn't been carrying metals. He would need to find some to find out. Otherwise, he would apparently need to hunt some mistings like God had told him to. But, there were advantages to having an unknown face. They would not know him for who he was, now. He could work death from the shadows, unknown to any of the people of Luthadel. All thanks to Duralumin, a metal Vin had revealed to him so long ago. He looked over to where his body had been, and it was long gone. He ached for the loss of the lines of steel and iron, but God had promised him he would regain those at the end of this. And God did not lie. Panic averted, he began to whistle. It appeared this body was a decent singer, although from the voice tone it was a bass, not Zane's tenor. But that would do fine for now. He would take out his remaining anxieties on his victims. "Where to next, God?"

  18. Snip showed Cadoxi to the door, and said, maybe a little too loudly, “I’m glad you’re happy with your suit, we’ll send it over as soon as possible.” Once the man left, he began to clean up the store. The sun was beginning to set, and his store didn’t serve the kind of patrons who were likely to be out after dark. Especially not in times like these. He folded up the satin, checking carefully moths, and was pleased to note that they had made some good sales. That was good. Maybe he would finally be able to import some velvet from the Eastern Dominance. Rumor had it that there the fabric market was alive and well out there. What he would do to get some velvet in a time like this. Someone knocked on the door, and he started. A customer? At this time? Walking to the door, he saw the young boy from early, holding a message. He grabbed the message, gave the boy another boxing, and read it. It was in the affirmative, and listed a time for them to come. It was before Cadoxi would make his next shipment. He opened the door again, looking for the boy. He was gone. By the ash, he would need to deliver a note to Cadoxi, but how? Suddenly he turned to Dal. No, too risky. The lad was a hard worker, and good with the fabric, but a little too nosy for his own good. He sighed, then turned to his assistant. “Sorry about making you run the shop for so long, you know how it is with these guardsmen. How did everything go?” @xinoehp512

  19. I’d like to quickly interject that I’m absolutely loving the RP from all of you, but especially what @xinoehp512, @Snipexe and @Cadmium Compounder are doing and the story they’re building. Also shoutouts to @Mailliw73, @Arraenae and @Lumgol for the considerable RP they’ve put out. You are all deserving of upvotes Also, as this game will start in three days’ time (72-ish hours), if you’re still on the fence about joining, please make a decision within that time. In particular, anyone who played LG41 and wants a second chance to avenge their defeat is more than welcome to join (thinking especially of @Sart, @MrakeDarshall and @manukos as the co-GM). Thanks to everyone that’s signed up already, and I hope to get this going in three days or so.

  20. Hi all, Been reading on here for a while now but never got around to saying hello. I've read pretty much everything Cosmere, including White Sand (prose) and Aether of Night, although not Dragonsteel Prime (if anyone knows where I can read a copy, I'd be much obliged). I'm basically just hanging in there until the next book, reading theories and the like. Glad I finally got around to introducing myself.

  24. Only Lord Renaux brought this ball any semblance of propriety. The idiot Hadrian had invited anyone on Elend's new Assembly, which included skaa! How undignified. Luckily, none had yet gathered the nerve to ask her to dance with them. She quickly burned zinc to Riot their shyness anytime one began to look or wander in her direction. So maybe it wasn't so much luck as it was ability. Another distinguishing trait that supported the Ministry's doctrine of superiority over skaa: they had no Allomancy. Oh there were stories of skaa Mistborn, but there were also stories of blue flowers. Ridiculous! Laila sat at her table by herself, wishing the Lord Ruler had been able to grace this ball with his presence. There was a lack of men these days in the courts, the fool Elend being the latest fop. But the Lord Ruler! If only there were more like him. Laila would have to sate herself with the dregs of the nobility that was left. Maybe one of these fools deserved more credit than she gave them. She made sure to Riot the emotions of any possibly promising noble man to make him more likely to seek her company. Maybe the ball wouldn't be a complete waste of an evening.

  29. This exactly. If a VA passes away, quits, or something else happens where they need to get a replacement, its a lot easier to do when you hear a voice rather than hear a voice AND see a face. As others have mentioned, actions scenes also work better too animated in this case. Animation can give a certain amount of...weightlessness/limitlessness to the action that most live actions shows can't. For example, the fight scenes in Star Wars: The Clone Wars are some of the most impressive stuff in the entire franchise, but very few (if at all any) of them would translate well to live action. The same can be said for Kaladin's fights with Szeth, or Szeth's training as a Skybreaker or Szeth during the end of Oathbringer...basically all the fights with Szeth... A more extreme reaction would be the bending in Avatar: The Last Airbender versus the Movie That Which Will Not Be Named. Second is fan art. I've noticed that animation gets a lot more fan art than most live action shows. Or at least the cartoons I've checked out. Fan art is a great way to spread the series, and while Tumblr is a ghost-town, Twitter and Reddit are still going strong. If fan art spreads far enough in twitter, it'll get more people to check out the show faster. This is not to say that live action shows don't have fan art. They do and it's great; but larger portion of it seems to come from portraits of characters rather than fan-inspired events and drawn memes.* Third is the believability of the world (or whatever the phrase is you're thinking of that I can't at the moment). Roshar is a very, VERY strange place. It's strange in terms of fantasy, it's strange in terms of the Cosmere, and it'll be even stranger on screen. So in a place where we're asking a lot of our audience (who may be primed for more of a gritty, down-to-earth Game of Thrones type of show), I think animating the world would help take the burden off the audience. Cartoons are weird after all, and can do weird things in them. It wouldn't be too much to question the multicolored hair or the giant swords in a cartoon. But in live action? The critics and glasses-pushers would come out swinging. Or so I fear. Overall I think that Stormlight should be animated because it saves everyone a lot of trouble overcoming that first step and potential VA disasters down the line. *fan art can also lead to giant amounts of shipping and Shipping Wars if not unchecked, and those can get UGLY.

  34. The movie ended and Ben went upstairs to his room, yawning. He laid down and quickly fell asleep, not bothering to change into pajamas. He started dreaming. His first thought was that it was rather odd he was dreaming. He almost never dreamed. All he could see in any direction was blackness, an infinite deepness that hurt his eyes. After a while he began to get anxious. He held up his hands, to check and see if he had begun to sweat. Except he didn’t have any hands. He tried to scream, but apparently he didn’t have a mouth either. He was just nothing floating in nothingness. It seemed to stay like that for hours, unchanging and unshifting. But after a while he saw a small light in the distance. He quickly moved towards it - he had no idea how - and it slowly grew larger. The point of light slowly resolved into a person. It was Shana. She was standing, staring directly ahead. A shadowy figure stood behind her, a dark blade held in its hands. It was ever slow slowly bringing it towards her back, towards her spine. It looked like it was a video being played in slow motion. He tried to speak to her, to warn her, but no words would come out. He reached for her to push her out of the way, but was dismayed to find that he still didn’t have an arm. He was forced to simply sit there and watch her death slowly come closer, unable to do anything, to save her, not even able to scream in frustration.

  37. For expense, I'll just point out that animators and animation isn't cheap, either. I'm all for animation, personally, but that's not a guarantee that it will be cost savings. However, that doesn't matter to me as much as... Genndy Tartakovsky, director of many animated shows, including The Clone Wars. This is the man I want adapting my favorite fantasy novels into animated TV Shows and movies. Another great opportunity in animation is the ability to have voice actors that don't match their character like (Tartakovsky's) Samurai Jack who is voiced by Phil Lamarr, or in Aaron McGruder's The Boondocks where both Huey and Riley Freeman (young boys) are voiced by Regina King (woman). But, until we see a big-budget animated show actually enter the mainstream and do well, we're going to see nothing but GoT clones. It will take a real sea-change to get this off the ground, or a trailblazer to show it can be done.

  43. Started some preliminary work on a story concept I had years ago and only recently thought "this could be a great children's book series" The story is about pirates in a world that's mainly islands and water so traveling by boat is the only way to get between islands (none are big enough to allow airports to be a thing so aircraft will never be built here since it would be an impractical use of resources). Each book is planned to have a flashback showing how each crew member came to be part of this team. Each of these people are planned to have a backstory that's going to make it where they just can't stay on their home island whether it's because of LGBT reasons, abuse, not considered masculine/feminine enough by their society's standards, needing a second chance or even wanting to see the world. I'm still working out who all the crew members will be, since I need to look up ship roles though the captain is a bit loose with that, but I do have about a dozen planned with the captain and first mate having their backstory figured out first since they're brother and sister (she'd be captain but pirate society is very backwards about inclusion and a woman captain would've been considered going too far by their standards) but their story will not be in the first book. Another thing about this society is that the people aren't exactly human. Appearance wise they look half human half animal. For example the captain is a monkeyman which is a human but everything from the waist down, forearms and ears look more monkey like. Some other species are more extensive depending on the species (like chameleonmen have the eyes and horns of a chameleon) but as a rule that's the basic appearance for all the people. Pretty much I want these books to be about inclusion and how it's okay to be different, even if there's only one person willing to give you a chance since the captain gives each of his crew members due respect and will not tolerate any hate directed at them. Hopefully the writing of these goes good.

  44. How dare you sir! You have offend me! Since nobody else is defending Hufflepuff, I will take up the burden. Do not worry, brothers and sisters. I will educate these plebians about the true power of house Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff is the greatest house, because it values traits that actually foster a community, whereas the other houses ideals create division and strife. Loyalty, dedication, hard work, and fair play are the what Hufflepuffs exemplify, and these ideals lend themselves to acceptance and fairness. Hufflepuff are normal, decent people, and let's face it: normal people are boring. But they also don't create conflict like we see in the other houses, especially Gryffindor and Slytherin. They're so antithetical they are almost always fighting. And instead of working together they are always working against each other. Then you see Ravenclaw. The problem with Ravenclaw is that the house traits say nothing about how to interact with other people. Ravenclaws could be spiteful mean people, or they could be kind. It could go either way, and valuing intelligence often leads to arrogance and condescension towards people who may not be book smart. The way I see it, Hufflepuffs are the mediators, the people who just want everyone to get along. They may make for boring characters (though I'd argue Rowling just didn't take the effort to portray them as more interesting), and people from different houses may make for a better story. But if Harry Potter were real life, I know damnation well which house I'd want everybody to be in. Cause conflict and strife may make for interesting reads, but I'd rather have a normal life, where everybody is just decent to one another and there's no storming hate.
