  1. My latest shardbearer, this time a truthwatcher riding into battle on a ryshadium. I will readily admit this was one of the hardest things I have ever drawn, horses have unusual anatomy and I have never drawn one before. I did a lot of erasing which is why parts of the image are a tad blotchy.

  2. Warning: It has been 6 months since Skyward came out, so I hope you have read it at this point (it's really good, you should read it regardless of whether I'm running a game on it). However, while the basic premise of the game is not a spoiler, particular mechanics are significant spoilers for the book. Read the rules and play the game at your own risk. The Krell were kind of sick of dealing with the humans on the face of Detritus. Certain factions wanted to back off entirely. Others just wanted to wipe out the humans on the surface and be done with the potential risk. But for now, they continued to match forces with the humans, keeping them busy, and hopefully keeping them from trying to escape and bring ruin upon the galaxy again. But the Defense Force was dealing with internal problems. Specifically, an entire cave of people had decided they didn't like how the Defense Force was run. Their children were thrown into combat to battle off the endless waves of Krell, that never seemed to stop. So the Defense force had ended up barricading off the rebellious cave. Unfortunately for them, certain members of the military were already sympathetic to the rebels, and had decided to take action against the military in order to effect change. And all the while, a cadet was busy fixing a mysterious ship, a girl who could end up becoming a threat to every human on the face of Detritus. The die were cast. And the fate of a remnant of humankind relied upon the actions of pilots in a final flight. And hopefully, that final flight would be the best one of them all. _____________ Welcome to MR35, Final Flight. There will be a 24h/24h rotation from day to night, totaling 48 hour cycles. The game will begin at 8:00PM EDT on 5/22/19, a week after LG55 has gotten off the ground. The simplified rules are in the spoiler below, the exact rules will largely depend on the number of people who sign up, and will be posted along with Day One. There are certain secrets in this game. Feel free to sign up with a call sign. As this is the final game that I will run, and might be the final thing I do in the SE community for 2 years depending on what happens, I'd like to thank you in advance for joining this game. That being said, as indicated in the rules, activity is very important. Not submitting ship requests will leave you with bad ships, and not submitting night actions will increase your probability of being court martialed, because by not submitting night actions you put the entire village and eliminators at risk of losing to a Lifebuster bomb (although there is a buffer, if a single player doesn't submit an action, everyone isn't going to lose. The Krell force should be manageable so long as at least half the village attacks Krell). Please keep that in mind. Player list: Quick Links:

  3. "I see." Shana replied without looking into his eyes. Bigger things he'd shared with Cassie. That were unimportant enough that he had the time to watch a movie, but so important that he had no time to spend five minutes talking to her. He could have told her, that he wasn't interested. That Jamie - maybe it was about her, or that unmade. But then if there really was a problem, Doc would have told them about it. Or maybe not. She was a Dustbringer, if there was a fight, she was supposed to be first row, it was why she was here, to fight for them. Hugging herself, because now she understood what was going on, what had happened. He knew of course Doc knew. He always knew. If he kept her back, if he took away her place it meant she'd failed him. For a moment she stared at him with wide eyes, then stared at the floor, unable to be here anymore she repeated, "I see." And almost fled the kitchen. @Dr. Dapper Stumbling up the stairs, they left her panting, shaking again, she paused, caught her breath and forced herself to her room and wrote a notice. Then she pushed it through the gap beneath his door into Rob's room. @I think I am here. Back in her own room she changed into a shirt and short pants to wear at night and out of habit even went so far as to brush her teeth. Her thoughts whirled around and around, nine words, it should have been so easy. "Mahad." She whispered. "I should have declined, but it was so much fun, I like to spar with Rob, he's one of the few willing to break my nose. But I should have declined. I almost killed him, because it was fun." Disgust coloured her voice black and she sat down in a corner, rested her head on her knees, her arms pulled them close to her chest. Tears ran down her face, when her thoughts again and again touched one point. "What about us? What does it mean for us?" Her spren only whirled around, slowly, uneasily. "I don't know." He whispered and came close and she hugged him tightly. "Apologizing was good. You can learn from your mistakes, that's good, but..." Mahad fell silent and she didn't add anything, but stayed where she was. Doc would throw her out, he had to. In his head she already was gone. The moment he had stopped trusting her, she was gone. Maybe her uncle would take her back, he had to. Because if he didn't, she would end up homeless. Life before Death. When had she chosen Death and destruction instead of Life and protection? Unconciously, but did it change anything? Maybe. Shana stared at the path she'd taken the first few steps on, stared at its black turns, stared and stared and stared. Fight for them, not kill her friends. "It's human to make a mistake." Mahad whispered. "I'm still here."

  4. This isn't a particularly new theory, but my husband and I noticed something interesting on our most recent reread of Words of Radiance. (Spoilers will follow) I've seen it postulated before that Shallan's father may have been influenced by an Unmade. We see a hint of this when Hoid (as the messenger) tells Shallan as a child that the things she (and her family) fights aren't entirely natural. In the "No More Weakness" flashback, after Lin Davar beats the maid, he says something that stood out to us: While, at first glance, this seems like typical abuser mentality, it jumped out at us when we realized this is exactly the attitude Odium tried to get Dalinar to embrace when he almost made him his Champion. Odium wanted Dalinar to attribute his evil deeds to mere passion, to the interference of The Thrill. Dalinar narrowly escapes this trap by taking personal responsibility for his actions and accepting them so he can grow. Lin Davar seems to be an example of the opposite-- he decides his rage isn't his fault and that he just needs to be able to express it. He dodges personal responsibility, attributing his deeds to the influence of passion and the doing of others. While this could be just human nature, the combination of Hoid's warning and the similarity to Dalinar's encounter with Odium (who seems to thrive off people "giving him their pain" and passion) makes me wonder if this is further proof of an Unmade influencing the Davar house. Does anyone have thoughts on that, or has anyone noticed further connections to suggest that? There was alot of weirdness in that household-- Jushu's tendency towards excess, Wikim's towards depression and suicide, and Balat's for cruelty and destruction, for example (on a side note, makes you wonder if Balat might even end up as a Dustbringer eventually).

  9. Alright everyone, welcome to the Semi-Final round of the Tournament of Champions! Congrats to our semi-finalists, who have proved their mettle in the last round by taking on the role of a character not their own! (Don't worry, for the rest of the Tournament you will be representing the character you signed up to represent) Entering the semi-final rounds we have: @I think I am here. representing Yomen Myself, representing Galladon @Paranoid King, representing Gemmel and @Silva, representing Yokska Thank you to all who have participated in this tournament so far, including: @hoiditthroughthegrapevine, @Zath, @Gray to, @Archer, @Felt, @AonEne, @Toaster Retribution, @Sorana, @Ark1002, @Kidpen, @John203, and @ILuvHats (hopefully I got everyone. If not, I'm sorry!). Before we begin the semi-final round, we have one last task for all of you. The twist for the semi-finals is going to be that each contestant will have a list of words that they are required to use and rhyme with in their roasts. We are calling on you- all of the previous contestants in the tournament- to offer up suggestions for required words. FYI the goal is to encourage and challenge the contestants creativity- not to try to trap them with words that can't be rhymed with. As such, any words deemed too difficult to rhyme with (eg: orange, purple, etc) as well as any inappropriate words will be rejected. You may offer as many suggestions as you'd like, though no guarantees that all of them will be used. We will try to use at least one suggested word from each person though. Here's the link. We'll give you 2 days to submit your suggestions and then we'll begin the semi-final round!

  16. @Herowannabe Now I can't unsee it! Ironically enough, if Stormlight was animated I'd actually prefer Jack De Sena (Callum's VA, Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender) to voice Adolin, since he's clearly already mastered the role of cheesy older brother. Hm...I'd say Soren I guess. I should clarify that when you say "redemption arc," I see as "joining the Dragaang proper by the end of the show," and I think that'd work best for Soren. Claudia...as much as I love her and want to see her redeemed, I feel like her road is far more complicated, and she's bound to become a darker more complex character first. I definitely don't, but I think I understand why some people do. I just find her...not flat, sot to say; I can't nail down a really good arc for her in the future. For most other characters, I have an idea/theory of where they could go in future seasons. Rayla is FAR harder to predict, with the best things I can come up with are her dealing with the fact that not all elves are innocent in this war and want it to end (an arc I'm almost certain we'll see in Season 3 or 4), and maybe something to do with her parents (maybe Viren turned them into coins; maybe the elves actually covered up whatever happened by saying her parents were cowards; maybe something else happened). Overall I really like the show (it's one of my favorite shows out there right now) and I can't wait for Season 3.

  17. The obvious ones: Yo mama so stable, we call her Preservation. Yo mama so loving, we call her Devotion. Yo mama so rich, she makes Dominion jealous. Yo mama so giving, she gives investiture to Endowment. Yo mama so ambitious, Rayse thought Uli Da had survived. A little less obvious: Yo mama so careful, she keeps her Nightblood sheath in a Nightblood sheath sheath. Yo mama so persuasive, Breeze learned Soothing from her.

  19. Hello, everyone! I just recently finished The Stormlight Archive, and I’m on to the Mistborn Trilogy. I love discussing lore and meanings behind things in the books I read, so I was thrilled to find this forum! I typically find an author that I like and then read a lot of their work (my last author was Stephen King), so I’m psyched to see that there are so many Brandon Sanderson books to choose from. I actually read Way of Kings and Words of Radiance for the first time a few years ago, but when I recently rediscovered the series by hearing that Oathbringer was out, I obviously had to reread the first two as well. I must say, rereading those books was almost more fun because I got to see all of the foreshadowing that I had previously missed. So anyway, I look forward to contributing to discussing and theorizing with all of you about these books! Any recommendations about what to read after Mistborn would be greatly appreciated!

  21. Grey nodded as the man put his hand down. The same thing happened to him quite often. Forgetting questions was simply the worst. Turning, he watched the Stranger silently for a time. He had worked with him on a project once. Well, more like worked for him. His lab had been working on repairing the quantum tunnels to Alleys 1152 and 77734, when their work had been commandeered for another purpose. He still didn't know what they had been truly doing, but what he had seen, what he had had nightmares about, made the accident that resulted in his face look like a mere walk in the park. He pulled on his hat strings. That had been nearly 30 years ago, he doubted the man remembered him now. He hoped that he did not. He quietly walked to near to the wall, and just before alley-traveling back to the labs stopped. Internally sighing, he whispered into the Stranger's mind, "If you happen to need access to my labs particular set of skills, just let me know. Please try not to drive everyone insane again though." Hopefully the whisper into his mind would be enough to remind the Stranger of his identity. If not, then all the better. With that, he Alley-travelled back to 192.

  22. On this same subject, is it a logical conclusion that Dai-Gonarthis, The Black Fisher, might be the Unmade in question considering this quote from the death rattles? We have a good idea how the most of other Unmade operate, and none of the others really make sense. They all seem to take something inherent to humans and try to twist it, amplify it, or imitate it in a perverse way. We already have a good idea what Yelig-Nar, Ashertmarn, Moelach, Nergaoul, Re-Shaphir, and Sja-Anat do (of these, Sja-Anat seems a possible candidate but it seems unlikely since Shallan doesn't remember corrupted spren). Ba-Ado-Mishram seems to have something to do with granting Voidlight, so that one seems unlikely as well. Sure, it could be, Chemoarish, The Dustmother, but the name doesn't seem to infer the sorts of things happening in the Davar household. An Unmade that feeds off and amplifies emotions surrounding sorrow, however (if Dai-Gonarthis is really the 9th Unmade), would have a hey-day in a home like House Davar where misery ran rampant. We don't have enough information yet, but by process of elimination, it seems a possibility.

  23. So I think we can mostly all agree that if anyone's going to "pass" Kaladin in Oath progression, it's going to be Teft and not Lopen (the comic relief, who wouldn't fit well into such a serious role) or some other bridgeman without proper foreshadowing -- honestly I felt that Teft swearing his third Ideal when I had no idea he was even on his second to be rather jarring and something I'd hope not to see happen again. It's an interesting theory, but I don't see it happening for two reasons: 1) The armor-granting Oath has been super-hyped.by this point. People were anticipating it as far back as WoR and the teasing during OB is real. For narrative reasons, it almost has to be a big, awesome, plot-significant moment, and I just don't think Teft or any bridgeman other than maybe Rock has been built to nearly the required level. If one of them were suddenly promoted to one of the "main" characters for book 4, it would be possible; but such a promotion doesn't seem likely. 2) Kaladin's development. His inability to say the fourth Oath was a major plot point in OB. You can't just...brush aside his struggle by having another Windrunner beat him to it. Well, given enough setup of course you could, but so far that setup appears to be lacking. We suspect the next Ideal is hard for Windrunners in general and not just Kaladin in particular, so having someone else breeze by would be weird. The only way I could really see another Windrunner beating Kaladin to the next Ideal without major setup next book is if Kaladin explicitly rejects the Fourth Ideal -- if he decides that the Ideal is just not compatible with his own value system and that he will not swear it, resigning himself to be a third-Ideal Radiant henceforth. Then of course others would pass him, and it might be an interesting story to see Kaladin struggle to lead and/or protect those who have passed him by. But I'd be rather surprised to see the story take this direction.

  24. Hi everyone, I'm a new member to the forum, and relatively new to the Cosmere in general. (I read Elantris a while ago, and I'm about 150 pages into The Way of Kings. Haven't gotten to Mistborn yet.) I've been writing for a couple of years, and have had a few short stories published. I've also got an idea for something that could be a novella or novel, but that's not even really in the outlining stage yet. I'm looking forward to reading everyone's work and getting feedback on mine.

  28. I am extremely annoyed with Rhaegal's fate. There's no way those ballistae could have possibly been that accurate from that distance against a moving target to hit him even once, let alone the three bolts that brought him down. And that's before you even consider the fact that they were mounted on constantly-in-motion ships, not good, solid ground.

  29. I for one am thankful for this thread, sometimes I feel old, I was here well before the idea of the Allyverse was conceived. I always thought I would outlast it (not going to lie, I kind of have a vision of me sitting in a shared throne surveying the smoldering wreckage of everything) but now I doubt. I have a feeling that it is here to stay. I used to be an Assassin in Technicolor, I then left for the DA and passed out cookies in the intro threads. But things changed the DOCI was formed, infiltration was the name of the game and I was into it, it was sometimes then when I met Riker Synclair (now Mraize) he had formed a new guild and I was the first to join. Soon I was a member of the DA, the LA, the GBs and several other small guilds. I remember the first war and the sense of confusion when The Potato infiltrated TUBA and I was exiled from the DA, I engineered several plots to kill Archer as the Righthand of the Ghostbloods. I was a force to be reckoned with, I had a network of spies and at the hight of my power, I was elected mayor. But then I stopped, I stopped trying, I wasn't a fan of the direction the Alleyverse was headed so I simply stopped participating. There was a time where evryone knew my name but that age has passed. I was TFA and this is my eulegy.

  33. His dad was either absent or alcoholic for most of his childhood and adolescence and his mom is dead. Clearly the epitome of a normal, happy life.He has major self-esteem issues that are coming increasingly to the forefront as of Oathbringer. He's only a shallow character if you read on a surface level and don't read deeper. And any character is 'shallow" if you only look at the surface layer. That's part of the reason I like him, he looks like the stereotypical self-confident jock, but he really isn't. Regardless, this is getting a little off topic for this thread, there's other threads to discuss Adolin's character in general.

  36. Well, we know that the main reason Hoid gave Wax the coppermind at the end of BoM is because Kelsier doesn't want the fact that he's alive and "up to something" getting around. My current theory, given that Brandon has repeatedly said that what Kelsier's been up to won't really be revealed until Era 3 (and that Kelsier will play an important role in Era 3), is that after Kelsier figured out how to staple himself back into the physical realm and become a fullborn, he wanted to get off-world. Everything we see in Secret History reinforces that Kelsier has a compulsive need to discover the "next secret" and wants to become more Cosmere aware, and presumably get revenge on Hoid too. Given his inability to worldhop through the Cognitive realm, he probably realized at some point that technological advances are his best bet. We see in Era 2 that Sazed doesn't want Northern Scadrians to get complacent, and he's worried that he's held back their technological progress by giving them too easy a life in the Basin, so I think Kelsier is doing what he can to accelerate that timeline - which is why he helped out the southern Scadrians. The Southern Scadrians, unlike those in the basin, have lived brutally difficult lives since Sazed accidentally killed off most of them in the Catacendre, and been forced to adapt and evolve for over 300 years. Kelsier probably came to the same logical conclusion as Sazed (that struggle leads to evolution), and/or remembers enough from when he saw into the future through Preservation, and when he ascended, that he knew the Southern Scadrians were the most likely to create these technological advances that would allow him to get off-world through the physical realm.

  38. In complete contrast to everyone else here, I'm going to just quote my theory on the Diagram because I think Cultivation is absolutely responsible for it, even if it was T alone. And it sure as hell isn't what Taravangian thinks. I don't believe that for a moment. The Diagram has been absolutely accurate up to this point. It's "failures" have steered events precisely. Szeth's slaughter of world leaders created the ground on which the coalition was built. The release of information to undermine the coalition lead directly to Dalinar's desperate situation and rejection of Odium during the battle of Thaylen city which in turn led to the meeting with Odium where he read those words. Taravangian on the day of the Diagram laid out this plan to steer his less intelligent self (and even on genius days, he's still far less intelligent) by the nose to follow the true plan he had on that day. That plan did not exist outside of his head. Odium is aware of everything that is in the Diagram, and to have written down the plan would mean to expose it to scrutiny. The goals of the Diagram are not, and have never been what Taravangian believes. This is not about saving a remnant. This is not capitulation. This is about positioning himself where he can do the most to undermine Odium directly. He is now a "servant" of Odium, ruling one of the most powerful nations on Roshar. Odium believes him to be loyal out of necessity, because Taravangian himself believes that. Which is the entire point. He is a trusted tool of the enemy. It's in that "capacity" that he'll be able to do what needs to be done. Or as @RShara likes to put it. "T is a plant" The Diagram has done everything according to plan.

  40. I agree, I think that would be a super interesting arc for Kaladin - thats why I wouldn't mind seeing him be surpassed by Teft, for example. I think this is a great idea - and we know from Brandon's recent reading that Lirin will be a part of the book! It would be terrible if The Lopen were the one to pass Kaladin... I like The Lopen, in small doses, but that would just be ridiculous. Other than Teft, I think the main options might be Skar or Drehy - they managed to save Elhokar's son and get everyone out of Kolinar, can't have been easy. I imagine they are now more than ready for spren of their own.

And maybe some rubber corners on rough edges for the kids. Skybreaker: "On what legal basis?" Dustbringer: "If there was no playground. There would be nothing to repaint. *insert beaming smile here* " Edgedancer: Slides all around the playground while painting the mayors name all around so that people don't forget who initiated it. Truthwatcher: Would see in the future that one of the other orders would repaint the playground. Then stay very far away from it given the outcome of the repainting. Lightweaver: Would lie about agreeing on repainting the park. Then stealing the paint canisters to create his/her own personal artform. Then lie about stealing the paint canisters. Elsecaller: "Why?" Willshaper: Would agree to paint the playground. Then end up playing on the playground. Finally wandering somewhere else forgetting about the entire thing. Stoneward: Would agree to paint the playground. Start painting. Then stubbornly won't stop painting as "it isn't good enough". Bondsmith: Make the mayor repaint the playground himself/herself.
