  3. Calderis already covered what people of merchant level or nobility would do. Hire someone to do it. Regarding farmers, darkeyed women wear safe gloves. So they would still be able to do the work. Actually they would be extra chaste as they would probably wear gloves on both hands given the work lol. As said, the lower strata is less restricted in the use of safe hands. Gloves are allowed. edit: for example, Kaladin's mother Hesina uses a gloved hand when chipping away at the crem on the roof of their home. Using a hammer and chisel to chip away is rather labor intensive, and requires two hands.

  4. Unlike my aprils fools post yesterday, this is not a prank. There seems to be some amount of support behind getting a separate website for the Alleyverse RP. And we are trying to find out if this is a plausible thing to make happen. Please vote above so that we can see if this is an idea that people would actually support, in addition post below to suggest any features or concepts that you would like to have introduced on the site. Also post why you voted for what you did. I also want to provide a warning that this still may not happen. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are trying to see if this is something that is worth pursuing.

  5. Hi, Just to start off I want to say that I am an avid reader..gluttonous even. While my title may lead you to believe I have read all of Brandon's books I will admit, a little shamefully, that I have not. That being said, I have read a lot of his works and I could never name a favorite author when asked until I read "The Way of Kings." I pretty much fell head over heels in love with his writing from then on. I actually had not even heard of Brandon, again to my own shame, until he took on the final books of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. I had been reading Jordan's books and waiting for them to finish when he sadly passed away. One of the worst things a reader can ever go through is not having a story finished or it being finished poorly - not to diminish the loss of a great writer like Jordan which saddened my heart - so I was immediately skeptical when I heard that Brandon Sanderson was going to finish his books but also hopeful that he could do it well and finally draw the series to a good close. He far exceeded my expectations in "The Gathering Storm" and "Towers of Midnight", and so belatedly I decided to read his most recently published book at that time "The Way of Kings." I was instantly awed by Brandon's unique and original content. His worlds were fascinating, characters engrossing, and his use and approach to magic utterly unique. I knew I had stumbled upon a writer with a lot of depth which can be hard to come by in the overpopulated world of fantasy writers. As I began his "Mistborn" series he became the writer to which I began comparing all others to. There are some of his books I havent read yet, The Rithmatist, Warbreaker, White Sand series, Infinity Blade series, Unfettered series, Alcatraz series, Dreamer, and some of his novellas . I have read Mistborn Series, Stormlight Archives, The Recokners Series (which really made me appreciate Brandon's versatility as a writer) Elantris, The Emperors Soul, Perfect State, Snapshot, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, and Skyward. I'm currently reading "Legion - The many lives of Steven Leeds." You may wonder why I havent read all of his books and yet say he is my favorite author but its just because I am a bit of a reading junkie. I really love reading, and really, really, REALLY love fantasy. Authors like Melissa McPhail (one of my favorite female authors), Jeff Wheeler, Tad William's (his Otherland series is in my top 3), Diana Wynne Jones (so love her), Christopher Paolini, Sara J Maas, Charlie N. Holmberg, Shae Ford, Michael G. Manning, James Islington....and so many more. So yeah I have a problem but there are worse addictions to have than reading right? So here I am, breaking away from reading to visit with other fans of Brandon and I'm also here to glean wisdom because I am also an aspiring novelist...I just have to learn to put the books down and focus. Look forward to getting to know everyone!

  6. None taken, and thanks for your feedback. Nothing is decided yet, that's why we want to collect feedback for a while first, I'm doing some initial investigation as well. If it's particularly low maintenance I might even be able to set something up as a showcase, people can explore it for a bit and then if we don't like it we can just continue to use the Shard. I would like people to give it a try if we received wide spread community agreement for it, but I understand if people can't. I struggle for time already as well from time to time. So yeah, no pressure for people if you're not in favour of this, we would only implement it if we thought the benefits outweigh the demerits so it's not something we'd get upset about if people disagree.

  7. How the ten orders get arrested: Windrunner: Tries to “save” someone from getting injured on a hike, so they kidnap them to prevent them from going on the hike in the first place. Skybreaker: Arrests themselves for accidentally littering. Edgedancer: Steals from the rich to give to the poor (read: forgotten). Elsecaller: Gets arrested for conducting illegal experiments on random passerby. Truthwatcher: Somehow manages to wander into a top secret government facility. Willshaper: Tries new “experiences” like robbing a bank and random heists. Stoneward: Was just standing in the middle of a construction site and would not move. Didn’t say anything, just stood there. Birds even landed on them. Dustbringer: Has committed practically every single crime. Especially arson. Their most recent one was blowing up random buildings. Lightweaver: Gets arrested for impersonating the president. No one knows how long they were doing it or where the real president actually is. Bondsmith: Tries to take over the world so he can “unite” all of the countries together.

  8. Probably Harmony's books, honestly. It's the best explanation, as, once Harmony picked up Preservation, he would have seen the history of the power, same as Vin, including Kell pick it up (which, if Vin had looked, she could probably have seen it as well), plus seeing Ruin having messed with everything and talked to Kell, meaning he got a double-dose.

  10. Seriously, even in upper lighteyes situations where you have things that run along lines where gender roles actually do matter, with the running of camps being divided duties... A same sex couple would do the exact same thing that Elhokar or Dalinar did without their wives present. Use people sworn to them who are of the correct gender for the task required... Which means between those couples, and single landed lighteyes, there will always be openings for people who need aid from the gender their team lacks. I'm sure similar but different situations would arise for Darkeyed people as well. It's going to be at most an inconvenience, not a life changing impediment. That's reserved for cultures that are actually bigoted against this type of relationship.

  13. This part I actually disagree with. Spren attitudes towards the blades vary greatly. Syl and Pattern, both see them poorly, but even pattern reached the reasoning that people aren't using the corpses of spren maliciously (to the spren). Ico has a pragmatic view and says he understands why people do it, and, was just bothered by Adolin calling Maya a "friend" For the Highspren, pragmatism and order seem to be all. If the blades are available, what reason would they have to not see them used? If they view it on a basis of rules/laws, why would there be any rules against using something that was never supposed to exist to begin with? I think the assumption that all spren view blades as abhorrent, or that that feeling means they would not employ them, is premature.

If not, I am happy to post my own. I also apologize for not being responsive here. It is lent in the Catholic Church, and I am a member there, and thus have chosen to abstain from using internet on my free time, which leads to a minimal amount of Sharding for a while. I can make an exception for the Raps though, if needed :-)

  20. Ok, so a bit of thought. There are 23 players, 24 if you count me. This means we have... probably like 5 spammers, maybe? 6 seems a few too many, although it is possible. Granted, 6 might be more likely if the other eliminator roles are as powerful as having a free anonymous account. But then again, they also have a convert... so I'd say 5 or 6 eliminators out of 23/24 people. That's quite a few, especially in a game as confusing and as low information as this one. We already hold an advantage due to the fact that the spammers don't know any abilities of ours, except for mine, as things stand right now. Someone has already mentioned the importance of being very careful about revealing the specific abilities we have in PMs. I probably would not have revealed my ability either if I had known that this account would be cleared as village. I might have waited until day 2 or 3 to reveal it. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Obviously, part of the reason this account cannot have PMs with others is to prevent it from becoming a hub of village information, and to prevent mayoring. There's also some significant risk involved in any kind of player claiming on my part, as it would probably only be a matter of time before I either got killed or converted. I hesitate to suggest that people should attempt to figure out who I am, and then PM their roles and abilities to my true account, as that could easily backfire if you guess the wrong person and share role with a spammer. I also hesitate to give any hints to my true identity, for risk of the spammers attacking me in a similar way. So for now, I think just keeping me as a trust individual should be fine. If my account is a true risk of being lynched, I will use this account in conjunction with my true account in order to prove my identity. Oh, and a quick thing: If you have a role, make sure you use it. With 5 or 6 spammers, we cannot afford to not use our abilities, even with the very real possibility that the spammer abilities will cause it to backfire on us. We have too much to gain. Make sure you use your ability intelligently and smartly, don't just use it at random. Try to figure out clever ways of using them, as we cannot suggest ways of using your abilities. It's pretty much up to you and your creativity and diligence.

  21. In the spirit of this, I will reveal a few things. Conversions will not work on me, as suspected, they will only work on my true identity. If I am killed, the spammers will unfortunately find that I will rise again as a new anonymous account for my true identity to wield. I will not, unless extreme circumstances require it, reveal my identity to anyone. So, spammers, feel free to waste your conversion and your kill on this account.

  22. I was looking at these two diagrams and noticed something I hadn't seen before. It was easiest to see when switching between tabs on the same browser on these pages: https://coppermind.net/w/images/TWoK_Rear_Endsheet.jpg and https://coppermind.net/w/images/TWoK_Front_Endsheet.jpg. The symbols for the surges (the little circles) have their left sides identical, while their right sides are vertically flipped versions. The surgebinding one they're symmetrical left and right, but the voidbinding one is based on the same symbol, but instead of being symmetrical, the right half is a 180 degree rotation. Symmetry is important on Roshar. I've never heard anyone talk about it (though I'm sure it's out there), but I think that symmetry is meant to represent the making and keeping of oaths. I think these voidbinding symbols where the second half is the first half flipped on its head might be meant to represent the breaking of oaths. Oddly though the symbols corresponding to the symbols for the Orders of Radiants (the big circles) remain symmetrical right and left, though they have very different styles to their surgebinding equivalents. Maybe because they keep different kinds of oaths? I'm also wondering who the woman on the outside is, where it has the heralds on the surgebinding one. I wonder if she might be one of the unmade. Sja-anat? Ba-Ado-Mishram? I don't know.

  26. I would like to propose the Wandering Merchant Exception. The Wandering Merchant Exception has the following clauses: A player posting for the first time in the thread "Nomic - A Forum Game" [hereafter referred to as the Thread] is considered a "Wandering Merchant." After their first post, a player must not post at all in the Thread for no less than 24 hours or until two new pages have been added since that player posted previously. A player is only considered a Wandering Merchant for that singular post; any subsequent posts by that player in the Thread will remove the Wandering Merchant modifier if they do not meet the spacing requirements. Wandering Merchants are exempt from punishments or restrictions exacted by rules. This prevents new players from immediately becoming invalidated. Attempts to infringe on the speech, expression, or influence of a Wandering Merchant by any player is rendered null and void. Wandering Merchants have the ability to grant Side Quests to a specific player. Wandering Merchants have a limit of one Side Quest per post. Side Quests award the chosen player an amount of Eggs upon completion. As follow-up, I would like to propose the Wandering Merchant Neutrality Act. Wandering Merchants are unable to call UNO or attempt to punish any other player while a Wandering Merchant.

  29. Depending on the features I'd say. I'm mainly concerned with the increased difficulty in getting new members, even if we're allowed to advertise it on the shard. On the other hand, having more space to grow would be nice as well. Edit: Also, how difficult would it be to move over threads, as well as the pm conversations? Because if we can't there's a chance we'll end up doing part of the alleyverse on the Shard and part of it on the new website.

  39. Interesting theories. I’ve had similar thoughts. A couple problems though. You got the surges for the different orders mixed up. Bondsmiths don’t have division. Division belongs to skybreakers and dustbringers. The second issue is that the circles with half the symbol flipped represent surges, not orders of knights. I've been thinking that Renarin may have the voidbinding version of illumination but the surgebinding version of progression (regrowth). Not positive on that though.

  40. Here's my opinion. It's day one. We don't have solid suspicions. Banning an inactive, especially one that is lurking, is a better idea than banning an active person who, by probability will most likely be a villager. It'll give us some information, and helps to encourage activity. Then, day 2, we'll have more posts and analysis to work with, and we can make a more informed lynch on more active individuals.

  42. Sorry, I've been busy selling suspicious products online. Huh, I'm confirmed "eliminator" (which, that's just... a whole other level of confusing). That's both a blessing and a curse. Probably won't be lynched, but this account will be an easy target for the true spammers. And just because I'm confirmed eliminator, doesn't mean I don't love to spread misdirection and chaos. I will refrain from sharing any connections I may share with other players, to preserve my safety. As for thoughts on the actual game... I have some vague thoughts, but more suspicious scams need to be pulled off! I'll share some more congealed ideas later.
