  6. I think it's time to give my GM thoughts on this game. First off, body hopping has never been used to this degree, so I was entering uncharted territory in terms of mechanics. There were a lot of things I expected to happen, like strong spirits booting out normal spirits, that never actually happened. Meanwhile, interactions I didn't even realize existed, like the fact that the murderer of a person receives their phone, and thereby all their PMs, decided the game. First, I was a bit disappointed in the number of people who actually body hopped. I very specifically designed the game so that everything you needed to win was outside of the initial bodies, other than a student in each team in order to start each team off with a backpack, to utilize as they saw fit. Team 4 definitely made the most detailed analysis and plans during day one, and that benefited them a lot during the game, as they were the ones utilizing their hops, they found a police officer and a pickpocket fairly early on, as well as both students I hadn't started off in a team. If they had utilized these backpacks better to not leave all their items in one bag, it is likely they would have won. If I were to run this again, I would probably change the activity rules to you have to submit an action, and not make voting an activity thing. Too many people would vote, and not take actions. That really hurt their teams. On the one hand, the fact that Sart managed to bring his team to a win in two turns seems a bit unfair, but at the same time, he managed to pick the EXACT right people to kill. There was no way I would have predicted such an accurate outcome. Sometimes powerful roles just manage to get used in the exact right way. I think having 2 police officers and 2 pickpockets was fair, even though one of the pickpockets got lynched (providing everyone who lynched them with absolutely no items. lol) I was a bit worried that I had to keep stream-lining the body hopping mechanic, but honestly there was no way I could have known to make those rule clarifications until I had started the game. Some things just need to be played to see how they work. Another thing I might change if I were to run this again is the phone mechanic. The phone mechanic is a really interesting one, especially in conjunction with the body hopping mechanic. It is very high maintenance though, and in a quick fix, it might have been a better idea to leave documents open, even if the phone mechanic is a bit more true to the story it sources from. If you didn't realize, I also had a dud account in there. Scarlet Octopus was an account that no one could hop into, with the identity of having a "strong will." Several people tried to hop into them, but no one bothered to kill them to learn why they couldn't hop into them. I even gave a special PM text when you failed to hop into Scarlet Octopus. It was things like that, and all the funny items and their hilarious descriptions, that I was hoping would make a suitable reward for hopping bodies. And indeed, those who did hop had the best chances of winning. Sart won because he hopped. GreenRover's hopping was the only reason that Team 1 ended up with 9 items, despite Melon Dingo being killed. And Alvron was the most dangerous person in the game because of his hopping. I designed it to work like that, so I'm not surprised that teams with lower hopping rates didn't do as well. So, would I recommend this mechanic again? The great thing about this body hopping mechanic is that it can fit into many different formats. You could probably run a vanilla SE game, just with the body hopping as the base mechanic. I thought about making a "capture the flag" set of rules, before I settled on a scavenger hunt through the given bodies as the rule set I wanted to use. Faction games, serial killers, all sorts of things could be enhanced and made a bit more interesting through the body hopping mechanic. To any future GMs who attempt to use a mass body hopping mechanic like I did, I give several tips: 1. Keep the game small and limited in terms of players, unless you have good reason for it to be otherwise. I specifically needed 16 players for 4 teams. You could probably run a smaller game than that. The more players you have, the less you can rely on activity, and the less available bodies there are to hop into. 2. Keep the game simple, unless you know what you're getting into. I don't think this game was overly complicated, but still it involved a lot of work. I made the "send actions in real account PMs" rule on my own, in order to help organize things between bodies and players. Body hopping takes any other mechanic, and makes it tenfold harder to keep track of. Which is where tip 3 comes in. 3. Keep good track of everything. Seriously, the spreadsheet was my only hope for keeping track of everything. As I mentioned before, Droughtbringer really helped me out with that. If you try and keep track of things in your head, like I tried to do with the phones, you will make mistakes. 4. Make sure there are good incentives to body hop. I had lots of incentives, but most of them were hidden in all the empty bodies, meaning people who didn't hop never saw them. But those who did hop, usually would find a good reason to hop again, or find a great body and just hang out there. 5. Define exactly how much information you want there to be on the account when the next player comes in. I decided I wanted to leave as little information as possible, and therefore only said "this account has been updated" when items were added or taken from an account, or something like that. I also said no sending actions in on your anonymous account. For a different game, you might want there to be more information on an anonymous account; but just make sure you know exactly what you want from it. 6. Make sure hopping doesn't make everything insanely difficult, but also create limitations. For example, I set the limit of hops to 3, meaning a player could see a maximum of 4 bodies in the game. With the goal of acquiring 17 out of 40 total items, this seemed pretty reasonable. The backpacks were another way of achieving this. Most people started off with a single item, which in a single turn they could pass and then hop. People who ended up with more than one item could fight over backpacks in order to be able to transfer their loot for a single action, while those without backpacks would have to take the multiple actions required to pass all their items. If you could pass all your items for a single action, there would have been no limitation on anything, and it would have broken the game, taking all risk out of it. No backpacks would have made the game last forever. So keep that in mind, that actions become more complicated with the hopping mechanic, and that the rules need to make sure that while still challenging, the game doesn't make it impossible to take the actions needed to win. 7. Finally, make the game tie into the body hopping somehow. This is kind of like 4, but on a more rule based level, rather than just an incentive. If you create a vanilla SE game with body hopping, add just a bit of flavor to make the body hopping integral to the game. Perhaps you could just make it so that if a body is lynched, the player in the body is lynched as well, rather than what I did. Or maybe you could create a hydra situation, where another player could hijack an account, so that 2 people would be in it- and be affected by what happened to that body- at the same time. Or make it so a single player would have to manage multiple accounts at once. I'm kind of just brainstorming here, but make it so that the body hopping enhances the game, rather than just being there. You could also have more limited body hopping roles, rather than having a mass body hopping frenzy like in this game. One idea that just came to my head is a Singer based game, with Fused elims hopping into accounts and taking over. Could be interesting. I quite enjoyed running this game, particularly in the last couple of cycles when everything started going a bit nuts, despite the significant amount of work it took to keep running. The phone mechanic might be cool to try in a non-body hopping game, as it is a really interesting way of PM spying and communication. It does have its limitations; once you remove an account from a PM, you can't add it back in, and the GM needs to make the PM so that they can kick people out and invite people at will. Thankfully that never caused any problems during the game, but if you're trying that, be aware of that. I hope everyone also enjoyed the game, and the various jokes I had in the items and writeups, including referencing Droughtbringer in NYC (if you didn't know, he's leaving in a month to serve a mission there), and a pro-squid protest sign that I know someone ended up with. The game was naturally balanced, so that was nice, other than Team 4 getting most of the experienced and active players based on RNG. I hope to see this mechanic used again in different ways in the future. And I think that's all I have to say. I'll probably end up running a Spren game in the near future, so keep an eye out for SE's first foray into the cities of Shadesmar. After that, I have a vague idea of running what will probably be an MR based on Skyward, although I'll have some work to do on that, all before I leave on my mission in June. Gotta make these last few months of SE count.

  7. Looking at Ahu’s ramblings led me to connect the Unmade to the Heralds breaking as others have and while I was writing this it clicked that the Everstorm could be 10th Unmade created from the 10th Herald breaking. OR should I say E-Vers-Torm?!?! I hid the passage above for length. It is Jezrien rambling to Dalinar in the flashback. What’s he talking about? I know the very end he is referencing the Fused torturing him. But the beginning is about the Unmade and the middle fits the Unmade since they are ancient spren, better than the Fused who are cognitive shadows of Singers. “We let them in” They let the Fused OUT, doesn’t seem right. “We attracted them” How many times have we heard ”attracting a spren” used in SA? ”Befriended them” eh, restating the last thing doesn’t tell us much. “You open yourself up to it and you pay the price” - open up to a bond like with a Spren? ”They ripped my brain out” This has to be the Fused. Is there more of a connection between the Unmade and the Heralds than previously thought? I know there is the theory that one was created when each of the nine Heralds broke their first time. I was skeptical of it, where is the 10th now that Taln broke? But Jezrien seems to be lumping them in with the start and cause of all the problems. What if the Unmade were previously the Dawnshards and were bonded to Heralds to help with the Oathpact? The breaking of the Heralds damaged these spren and allowed Odium to Unmake them. “We were made, then Unmade” Sja-Anat to Shallan CH. 84 The Unmade weren’t always as they are now and the change was a destructive one. People make oaths. The Heralds “bent” their Oaths according to the Stormfather OB ch. 38. One oath Unmade per Herald. “A champion could work well for you but it is uncertain. ... And without the Dawnshards” tWoK Ch. 75 Honor seems to imply the Dawnshards were helpful against Odium in the past, but won’t be available. “Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind all creatures mortal and voidish, he crawled up the steps made for Heralds ten strides tall apiece toward the grand temple above.” tWoK Ch . 36 A Dawnshard that was “known to” as in had already proven it can bind creatures including voidish. It proved this when it helped with binding the Fused for the Oathpact. “One Dawnshard is different from all the rest” -WoB https://wob.coppermind.net/events/226/#e4824 One is different cause it’s the one Odium wasn’t able to corrupt. He got 9 out of 10. “That matches the vision Dalinar saw, though some reports mention ten Unmade”.- OB Ch 77 There are 10 Dawnshards 9 of which have been Unmade leading to the 9 or 10 confusion. But if Taln broke shouldn’t there be a 10th now? Yes, it’s the Everstorm. Unmade we’ve seen are all corrupted / co-opted black or red investiture. The Everstorm clouds are black and it’s lightning is red. Its not spelled E-Vers-Torm like a proper Unmade, but that would give the game away. Possible that Everstorm is what it used to be called before Odium modded it. Which is why Tanavast and the Stormfather already knew its name before it came. Tanavast calls it that in the visions.

  8. Hi! I started reading Sanderson's books after learning that he would be completing the Wheel of Time-series by Robert Jordan. I really love those books, and thought Brandon did a tremendous job of finishing it! While waiting for The Gathering Storm, I started on the Mistborn trilogy, and it completely blew my mind! The magic system in these books are awesome, and I like the fact that there are limitations to them (run out of metal = no power). Then came The Stormlight Archive and I was just as hooked. I've been having a dry spell concerning book-reading, but I recently discovered that he released a continuation of the Mistborn-series, and during the last month I've read Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self, Bands of Mourning, Skyward, Steelheart, Firefight, Calamity and Mistborn: Secret History. Sparks, I've been missing out! Anyway, can't wait for the next installment in the Stormlight Archive! And I see I still have a lot of catching up to do concerning his other books. See ya around, Slontzes!

  15. Update: Pledge Manager is live. https://craftygames.pledgemanager.com/projects/mistborn-metal-dice/participate/ Update: Pledge Manager will be opening soon, and if you missed the Kickstarter, you will get one last chance to hop on board. UPDATE: Kickstarter link. UPDATE: Relevant portion from the latest Crafty Games newsletter. Sixteen base metals, atium, lerasium, malatium, and harmonium, I have to assume, although I have yet to go die-by-die and attempt to identify each metal. That harmonium sure is shiny. If anyone's gonna be at GenCon, try to grab a pic of this dice tray. ORIGINAL POST: Crafty Games, the makers of various Mistborn gaming paraphernalia, had an update in their latest newsletter about an upcoming Kickstarter. There is no published Kickstarter yet (I'll add a link when it happens), but for now, I've copied the relevant portion of the update below: I had just managed to get my hands on the Kickstarter exclusives I missed from the first round of dice; I don't know if that's good timing or bad on my part, since it looks like those (and more) will be a part of the standard offerings. I'm curious what the stretch goals will look like. (There must be a reason they're doing a Kickstarter campaign, after all.) How large will the new dice packs start, how much could they expand to, and will any be Kickstarter exclusives? However they do it, it will be nice to see if they can get all the acrylics to match this time; with the existing print runs, the five "exclusive" dice are noticeably lighter than the ten "standard" dice. For sure, the symbols aren't in the same orientation (some have a 2 on the face below the bottom of the symbol, some have a 4), and I'm not sure if they even have the same handedness. None of which affect functionality, but little details like that bother people like me. (Or maybe just me.) Metal dice will be interesting. They said they're pouring, not machining, which surprises me a little bit. I expect they'll be more pricey, and the mockups look like there will be two kinds. The collector in me would like to get every possible combination of metals and symbols, but that might get too pricey. There are a lot of symbols: 24 Allomancy (16 + atium + malatium + lerasium + harmonium + 4 that are only used for the alphabet [that I'm sure are some deeply buried secret]), 18 Feruchemy (16 + atium + lerasium), and then 23 Allomancy from Era 2 (everything but harmonium). If each of those are in acrylic and two metals, that makes a whopping 195 dice. And we can always hold out hope we'll get additional symbols, like the Era 2 harmonium or even (dare I say) trellium, if Dragonsteel is generous with Crafty to get some good stretch goals. If they do make this many, and I hunker down and get them all, I may start thinking of a way to display them. So it's not a bunch of dice sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Maybe I make a frame and put them on my wall to collect dust, and then can pull them down if I ever need an obscene amount of dice.

  18. More complicated is pretty much a no. As to shards I'd like to see (because as we've discussed I think arrows would be fairly pointless) is a chakram. You take a chakram that is as relatively oversized as shardblades are and you get a bladed ring roughly 2-4 feet in diameter. A shardplate assisted throw would mow through anything in its path burning out eyes and deadening limbs, and then you just summon it back and repeat. Chakram is best ranged shard, in my opinion. Edit: autocorrect is stupid...

She keeps quipping and being interested when confronted by a chasmfiend. That can not be health. Adolin's making her unafraid is can only be used in regard to the fact that she feels she can be genuine with him something I see as good for both their relationship and Shallan herself.

  24. I did ramble some post game thoughts in the elim doc, but I'll reiterate them here. First off, I really do feel terrible about being inactive, the combination of school and running a fairly intense QF at the same time as this game really hurt my activity. Second, what a fascinating mechanic. The medallions being passed around was really interesting, so you never quite knew what you were dealing with. The medallions might need a bit of tweaking for future reruns, but it was an original and interesting idea. Having 5 elims was indeed a bit OP, as I said. I also regretted asking for the kill on Mailliw, as it totally slaughtered village discussion. Having inactive players made the ending a bit easier than it really should have been. Inactivity kind of plagued this game a bit, and yeah, I guess it is kind of life. Despite that, thanks for running this game! A most interesting way of using medallions in an SE game. Hope it gets used again in the future.

  26. Thanks to Kidpen for running the game! I loved the passing medallion mechanic! I think it gave everyone a chance to have a fun ability at least once in the game. Though I realize that was also a ton of work on the GM, especially without a co-GM. Great job! Despite the hiccups, it still worked out well in the end. I think there were a few under-utilized ones, such as cadmium. I think a longer time would be helpful for making that more used and a little more dangerous to hammer with. In general, it's definitely something I'd like to see more of in future games. Congratulations to the elim team. I will say, however, the general level of activity among the elims did make it a bit more difficult to find them. But life happens. It was still a great game!

  27. Ouch... My current suspicions were Devotary, Snipexe, Drought, and Steel in that Order. I was so convinced Itiah was village as Roadwalker seemed to try to inadvertently lynch him... I suppose that was truly inadvertent? Lol. Well, even if the number of elims was a bit many, I think the elims won already anyway. The elims played very well, and while Dev, Maill and I got a bit suspicious of some of them, we would have needed to lynch all of them in a row, and Devotary was my highest suspicion... So I likely would have turned on her first and doomed the village anyway. Perhaps if there were only three we would have had a chance during this day turn, especially as Devotary was targeted with the kill, but even then I am quite unsure. I apologize for my inactivity over these past crucial days... I was in the middle of my robotics event... However on the upside, my team did win the event. : ) (Our first ever competition win). If any of you are interested (especially the people with FIRST experience,) this is my team's result page: https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/3574 I am at work right now, but will read through the elim and spec doc later today/tomorrow. I typically say something again after reading those. : ) And Thank you to Kidpen, for running a fun game with new mechanics. I think they were a bit confusing to figure out how to use effectively at first, but if this game was run again, I know I could do a much better job at it. : )

  29. 1) I guess so? Additional opinions might be nice, but it seems logical to me. 2) That's an interesting can of worms, and something that would probably need a bit of debate. Personal opinion combined with some justifications, I'd say we'd have a bit of artistic license here and say that gender equality is a lot better than medieval Europe, and woman can have jobs too, although it would probably depend on the culture as well, with some cultures being better at this than others. Here we have the benefit of a navy trade kingdom, which means that other cultural influences (like gender equality) would spread more easily, and a lot of sailors and merchants would mean that their wives would manage finances and shops a lot, which would probably make them a lot more independent, and things like female gods would help as well. On the other hand, I think some degree of bias would still exist, and a lot of things would also depend on which job a woman has, with certain ones probably being more acceptable. 3) I don't think so. Natural magic might work though, through your character being somewhat renowned for their abilities, and gaining a supernatural ability to heal people, though I'm not sure how likely this would be for a journeyman. Another possibility would be for them to use healing herbs, which would be less effective (probably) than Ritual-based healing magic, but would require less study and be much less expensive, since you don't need Investure crystals. For this, Innate magic might help identify these herbs and their abilities, as well as (possibly) see a person's ailments. Edit: Different topic, but do we have a specific region or style in mind for local names? It would kind of make sense for people from the same region to have similarly styled names.

  30. Indy took another twinkie from a small pile as she responded, apparently she was from the area a while ago at least, which explained the house and why her accent was a little different from most of the others. But still doesn't explain why she decided to try talking to an Epic. Megan finished her own snack, almost choking on a few crumbs that got stuck in her throat. But after a small fit of coughing she recovered enough to answer. "Oregon. Portland" She said, a touch of anger creeping back into her voice. "Right in the middle of all the turf wars, just managed to get out in time before everything really blew up." Hopefully, the city took all those Slontzes with it when it exploded. She thought with satisfaction, taking a moment to enjoy the mental image of Nighthound and Lightwards both screaming as the museum erupted in a ball of flames around them. Then again, they were both High Epics right? So they're probably still stalking the ruins of the city trying to figure out who gets to rule the ashes. Then she realized the second question Indy had asked. Her hair? She toyed absently with a loose strand for a moment, noting the silky sheen that it had regained that morning. "I don't know about a supermodel, but it was a lot worse this morning. I met this weird Epic, he... I don't know really, but suddenly it was like this again. All clean and nice. Not tangled." For a moment she considered tracking Kokichi down again, they had been really helpful. Maybe not exactly awe-inspiring as Epics go, but if they could keep doing that trick then she'd keep them around just for that if nothing else.

  32. Now The Epic in front of her fumbled the catch, froze the plastic-wrapped Hostess treat in midair, and grabbed it, opening and eating it. Powers over wind, perhaps? That wouldn't account for how it just stopped though. Her face visibly relaxed as she swallowed, and she looked towards Karina curiously. MV frowned briefly, then asked, "So, Indy. You from around here?" Karina shrugged. "Kind of? I haven't been here in years, but I was raised here, yes." Karina opened up another package, and nibbled one of the cakes inside. Karina had forgotten how good Twinkies tasted, wolfing down the two of them. damnation, wish I had more of these - oh wait, I do. She sat down on the stairs and dumped out the rest of the golden-yellow cake packages on the floor. There were seven left. I should probably save some of these for later... Eventually, Karina decided to just eat one more, and she reached out to grab another one. Her gaze turned to the girl in front of her first, looking more closely this time. California? Maybe Oregon? Karina asked, "So, where do you come from?" She frowned. "And why does your hair look like a supermodel's?"

  33. Awesome! Same story here! Although I don’t really put in the time like want to be/should be... it’s funny how with all the roleplay here, you can really tell the difference between the aspiring writers and... those who are not aspiring writers. There’s just a love for the scene thst you can really feel whenever they post y’know? anyhow... The nightwatcher cracks a grin. “Finally, It’s you. I’ve been waiting so long.” She closes her eyes and tilts her head to feel the sun on her face. “It has been done. Thank you Zath. You’ve saved us all.” Above her head, the sky cracks, blue and white light spilling out of the seams that stitch the world together. A deep rumbling emenates from the ground, from the plants, from the air itself as the earth takes a deep sigh of relief. You stare up in wonder as the light intensifies, and as the cracks spread. Other colors join the blue and white—green, red, black, yellow—the full spectrum of light and energy joins in and bathes the earth in warmth. The nightwatcher begins to laugh. Beginning a low chuckle, it quickly becomes a mad, hysterical laugh. She points to the East, at the horizon line of the mountains and sky. “Look!” A golden light seems to concentrate... first a pinprick, then a flame, then a star. It shines with terrible power and destruction. “He cannot possibly stand against the Collective! It’s over! It’s finally over!” The golden light concentrates from a star back into a tiny point, before blazing across the sky in a single, powerful beam. It flies overhead, consuming everything and threatening with all the rage and hatred of divinity. Just as you’re nearly convinced you’re doomed to be consumed, the beam impacts against the sky itself, pressing against the cacophany of colors. They contest for a few, precious, breathtaking moments. If you haven’t figured it out before you’ve now realized you are witnessing history on an infinite scale. The golden light falters, then fades, before being blasted back by a brutal unleashing of raw power. When your vision returns to you, the harsh golden light is gone, utterly destroyed. Standing above you in the air dozens of beings radiating light of all colors survey their newly-reclaimed home. They cry out in unison, their voices gentle, yet piercing, drowning out all noise and enveloping continents. “WE ARE THE COLLECTIVE. YOUR GODS HAVE FAILED YOU. WE WILL SAVE YOU. CEASE YOUR WARS. CEASE YOUR STRIFE. PROGRESS, GROWTH, AND PEACE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR YOU. THE WAR IS OVER. THERE WILL BE PEACE. FOR ALL TIME AND ALWAYS.” The Nightwatcher smiles at you again. “Thank you. Your bane is that you’ll have garlic breath for the rest of your life.”

  34. Does Trell have to be only one shard? I could see a scenario where one of Autonomy's Avatars absorbed a piece of Ambition for example, in which case the red color of the haze attacking Scadrial would make more sense, since it would be investiture of mixed origins. I'm generally on board with the idea that Trell is in some form Autonomy since we have the WoB saying that what we've named Trellium is from a Shard we know, but I think theres something more to Trell than that.

When you would like to provide in book references and WoB to back up your assertions then I will take your arguments seriously. Till then, this reads as a strawman argument all over.

  38. Dude in middle school threw a copy of Mistborn at me and it hit me on the head. Picked it up and ran because it was his book and it was revenge. Read it. Instantly hooked. Never gave the book back.

  40. In which I attempted to complete a full month of Inktober, and failed. *Inktober is a fun project for artists where you do an ink drawing every day for the month of October based on a list of prompts. I don't know what the image limit is per post. I'll put some more up another day. Also note, I'm not trying to toot my own horn at all, I just have been dealing with some motivation issues and sometimes making myself accountable for finishing a project - however belated - can help with that.

  41. "No response." Sienna looked at him. "Figures. I need a vantage point." Enigma-2 replied. "Climb a tree?" His ghost suggested. Enigma-2 shook his head. "Remember that hill where we killed that fallen captian not to long ago? That'll be good enough." He started off at a jog headed due north. There weren't any enemies, which concerned him. He kept his hand cannon handy and kept running. He reached the hill and shot a flare. He turned to his ghost. "That might have not been the wisest idea." "You think?" Was the reply. He check his ammunition in his cannon and his rifle. He could hear the sounds of the fallen approaching. "Make a final call." "If anyone can hear this we are a lone hunter guardian. Please respond. Over?"

  42. Mwahaha, all according to plan... Is what I wish I could say. Seriously, I got super lucky. After not doing much of anything for three cycles, I jumped into a body with a gun. By a weird set of coincidences, I thought Dingo was Kangaroo's murderer, and so I killed them. And then, because I split Dingo's phones with Tuatara, I learned he was the other killer, and killed him to get the rest of the loot. I didn't think that would win me the game! Heck, I thought he was going to shoot me, and only shot him so all of our items would be redistributed. Everyone else was making these super intricate plans, but I just got lucky with both of my kills. Also, I'm pretty sure Azure Mouse's phone was cursed. Day 1: Azure Mouse gets lynched, and the phone goes to Sage Kangaroo. Day 2: The phone lies dormant, lulling Sage Kangaroo into inactivity. Day 3: The phone mind controls Sage Kangaroo, forcing him to pass it to Melon Dingo. To cover its tracks, it has Chartreuse Penguin kill Sage Kangaroo. Day 4: Amethyst Scorpion calls the phone, and mistakes the call's recipient for Sage Kangaroo's murderer. In retaliation, Amethyst Scorpion shoots Melon Dingo. At the same time, the phone beckons the Gods of Luck and Chaos, and makes Cream Tuatara kill Melon Dingo. Day 5: The cursed phone is picked up by Cream Tuatara, which lets Amethyst Scorpion know of his identity. Amethyst Scorpion kills Cream Tuatara to get the rest of Melon Dingo's loot. The phone now lies dormant in my possession. I shudder at what might happen to me.

  46. The story is about the human-listener relations. The people in the girl's village believe that the wall is there to keep something out. When the girl climbs the wall and looks at the other side and sees the stairs she learns that the wall is designed to keep something in. So the people in the village who believe themselves to be the potential victims of whatever's living on the other side are actually the dangerous beings that need to be kept away from the other side. I believe the "wall" is a metaphor for the mountains separating Shinovar from the rest of Roshar. So, the village people are the people from Ashyn, supposed to remain on the Shin side of the mountains who shield the listeners from human invasion. I see it as foreshadowing to the big "humans are the true Voidbringers but have no idea" revelation in OB.
