Today is my birthday. I only joined about two weeks ago and i love this place. I'm so happy to be able to share something i love with other people who are incredibly passionate about it. Thanks to everyone in this forum, you make me happy.

Okay, finally done with this. I decided to go with a Shakespearian Tragedy spin on things, and I'm afraid into turned into more of Galladon moping than spending time roasting his opponents, but I guess that fits Galladon. Edit: thanks to @Paranoid King for helping me with the fonts!

1. Awesome roasts, everybody! And I look forward to reading yours, Herowannabe. 2. Ashspren, I have a suggestion. Perhaps while everyone is choosing and voting for Returned names, you could announce who is up for the next round? The last two rounds have shown that people don't tend to post their raps until the third day anyway, so there's not likely to be any overlap. It would go something like, Sunday: Returned names are submitted and next round's contestants are announced, Monday: voting for the Returned, Tuesday: New roasts get posted, Wednesday: vote on roasts.

Personally, I don’t know why so many people don’t like the idea of Adolin reviving and bonding Maya. It makes perfect sense to me, and it seems like the most likely thing that will happen with them, given the evidence in the books. Everyone quotes that WoB about it requiring the original Radiant, but 1) it’s really old (it’s from 2015 ), 2) he’s also said it’s possible in other ways, and 3) evidence in books always supersedes evidence in WoBs, and there is a lot more evidence for Adolin reviving Maya than against.

I feel like this song could fit somewhere in WoR. It fits really well for Shallan and how they have the countdown to worry about. Also, I admit to having made a Let it Go for Kelsier. She will probably be different than she once was, due to trauma if nothing else, but I don't think she will be fundamentally a different being and I think Adolin will end up as a basically-normal Edgedancer. They certainly won't be as weird as Renarin and Glys are. Most of the interesting implications will be for how they relate to each other, and how others react to them.

Yes, agree that what really matters is HOW. All Sanderson's books are in the same universe.Everything works by similar rules, I think it's obvious that both SA and Mistborn share familiar plots. Everything in Cosmere revolve around Shards. Yes, Shards, and Honor particulary, are very important for SA. I believe Honor will be reunited, but how? This is important. I'm feel utterly positive about this plot. It will open some wild, interesting possibilities for Dalinar, like: I'd like to see it. Sounds awesome.

I just really hope that Maya comes back. It would also be a huge step in getting most spren to trust humans again, since the damage that was caused by past radiants is being fixed now.

I do not believe that a human soul contains enough raw Investiture to significantly affect a being of pure Investiture, even a damaged one. I think the implications from the story and WoBs is that it would take a Nahel bond to heal her.

Hi! Welcome to the Wheel of Time reading group. Basically, we'll just be going through the series together and discussing all that juiciness. Anyone can join at any time even if you've already read it all, and feel free to comment even if you don't want to participate in the readings. AG 5: One Final Blaze of Light Hello, and welcome to the 5th Anniversary Game! This game is special for a lot of reasons. It marks 5 years that we've been a community here on the Shard, and 4 years since I signed up for my first long-form game. It's been a crazy wonderful ride, and I've loved the community that we've built here, even if I haven't been around as much recently. This game is also significant for at least one other reason: over the past few months, I've been less and less involved in the Shard and the SE Community. When I started here, I was a college student, newly married, and full of energy. Now I'm graduated, with a full-time job and two children (and another on the way), and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to carve out space and time for SE games. I have writing projects I want to get to, children I want to spend time with, and ever-increasing responsibilities. Rather than keep telling myself that I'll be coming back in a month or two and eventually drifting off into full-fledged inactivity without ever saying goodbye, I've decided to officially retire. That way, I can do it on my own terms, instead of leaving you all in the lurch. So this game is sort of my swan song, and I have chosen to have one last Shard game, to wrap everything up. Bring the whole ponderous story of Hoid and the Shards of Adonalsium (first started by @A Joe in the Bush, who will actually be co-GMing this game with me) to a thrilling and stunning conclusion. But to do that, I'll need your help. These games are long, and complicated, and incredibly fun! But they don't work very well unless everybody stays active. My completely unbiased poll for no apparent reason. Do you want Adolin to resurrect Maya and become an Edgedancer? Me personally I want him to resurrect Maya but I don't want Maya capable of a bond. A shardblade yes, a KR no. Part of my desire is to have fewer KR PoVs, and part of it is that I'd like to see some consequences attached to what happened to Maya in the first place. She can be brought back from certain doom but some things just can't be fixed, and I find magic in worlds tend to devalue consequences like that.

Now presenting, from the sick and twisted minds of @Jaywalk and @Scintil: Pangolin and Panny: A Friendship for the Ages. The air sounded with a loud clang as the creature fell to the ground. “Does anyone else want some of this?” Pangolin asked. The others backed away slowly, then climbed back up the cliff they had come down. “As I thought.” Pangolin continued happily down the trail he’d picked earlier. He checked his timepiece. Quarter ‘till eleven. He’d make it. “Did you really have to hit it so hard?” Caveat asked. “I’d say it was necessary. They would’ve eaten us, after all,” Pangolin replied. Caveat shook his head, then walked away. Pangolin watched him go, slightly miffed at the old beggar’s negativity. Whatever, he thought as Caveat began to climb back up the cliff’s face. “At least we have each other, Panny.” The frying pan did not respond. “Panny? PANNY! Stay with me, brother!” As many people will have likely guessed by now, Pangolin was not quite right in the head. As for Panny, the frying pan...well, you can’t get much saner than he can, can you? “Do not fear, cousin Pangolin,” Panny said. “I shall not abandon thee. Now come, we must purge the rest of the creatures from the village.” “Hurrah,” cheered Pangolin. They set off, giving Caveat one last mean glance before he was out of sight, then jumped onto the large rock near the road. Pangolin patted it’s hindquarters and it purred to life, rumbling onto the path and towards the village. “Hey, Panny, does it hurt when I use you?” Pangolin asked. “I think not, Pangolin. It feels quite nice to end the hosts of evil beings.” “Oh, okay then. I’ll be sure to hit the creatures of the village really hard.” Panny smiled. Well, that’s what Pangolin saw, anyway. A short time later they arrived at the village gates to find it under attack. Pangolin hopped off the rock and checked the time again: 11:02. He was late. The Calibri were very punctual creatures. That was evident by the gnashing of teeth and swiping of claws that Pangolin and Panny encountered as they entered. Panny laughed as Pangolin blocked each blow, and so did Pangolin. The Calibri were slightly disturbed by this. “Hey Pang?” the rock called. “You gonna be long? I’ll be late to my date tonight if I don’t leave soon.” “Why,” Panny said, “I think you should let the good stone go, Pangolin.” “Are you sure, Panny?” “Quite.” “Oh, all right. Mister Rockface?” “That’s not my--” “You’re free to go. Panny and I can take care of the villagers. They shouldn’t be too hard to get rid of.” Rockface left, and before the echoes of Pang’s words deadened, he wadded them up and threw them at a nearby creature. It died instantly as they burned through its face. “Hey,” Panny said, “I’m not words. You must use me for this!” “How right you are, Panny,” Pang said as he brought the frying pan down on a villager. Oh well, he thought, she’s the one that got in the way. The battle raged on as Pangolin and Panny killed every creature in sight. Luckily, Panny’s handle was rubber, so Pang wasn’t burned by it like everything he hit. Accidental or not. As Pang got another good smack, he accidentally hit a wooden beam, that promptly started on fire, screaming. “Oh, good heavens,” Panny said, accent growing very, very thick. Pangolin repeatedly smacked his pan against the wooden beam, whose pain had grown so much that it had a face. A Calibri peeked inside. And then it ran away, oh so very disturbed by what it saw. The screams of the beam--and Pangolin and Panny’s laughing--continued to grow agonizingly louder. After a good half-hour of beating the poor beam, Pangolin grew bored. The villagers had all left along with the Calibri, fleeing hand in hand. They would go on to create an entirely new breed of creature together. “Are you satisfied?” the beam asked. “I believe I am, good sir,” said Panny, and Pangolin nodded. “Shall we go, Master Pangolin, my liege?” “Of course,” Pangolin said. “Mr. Beamface, would you like to join us as we crash the date of Mister Rockface?” And so, they walked off into the sunset? No, that was the fire they’d started. THE END?

Could someone use "Breath" on all of the Old Kings (Gavilar) and servants that have been Soulcast into stone on Roshar to create their own army of Stone Lifeless?

I like Adolin as he is now, he is already one of the few main characters without any kind of powers, and it feels somewhat refreshing. Also i don't want his struggle of trying to be useful for the kingdom to be resolved with a (sort of) Deux ex Machina of getting powers. I want it to be resolved with him dealing with it, he was used to always being stronger and in control because of his set of shards and not having powers has made him more down to earth and a lot more mature.

@galendo You see, I just don’t agree at all that Eshonai would’ve even got to experience any of those scenes instead of Venli if she had lived. Ulim knew that Eshonai was rebelling. I think it’s highly likely that, if she’d been found alive, she either would’ve been killed or just forced to accept a Fused. And if Timbre did repel the Fused from taking Eshonai, I think Odium would’ve just had one of the Fused kill her at that point. If the Fused were so willing to put so much effort into finding a single Cryptic in Kholinar to prevent a Radiant, I doubt Odium would let Eshonai, who he had to know was already resisting him, live as a Radiant. With Venli, Odium wouldn’t even believe at that point that she could/would turn at the point where Eshonai’s corpse was found since she literally did everything in her power to bring about the Everstorm. And Odium isn’t all-knowing; he probably knew that Eshonai was resisting him, but I doubt he could tell that there was a budding Radiant bond at that point. Eshonai had only just recently begun to attract Timbre, and hadn’t even sworn the First Ideal. So I don’t think he knew that Timbre was gonna end up bonding Venli because he didn’t even know that Timbre had transitioned into the Physical Realm in order to bond Eshonai and would therefore be more able to bond Venli. Plus, I’m sure Odium doesn’t see Venli as being able to attract any Radiant spren, so isn’t worried about that. If none of that convinces you, then you have every right to believe that Eshonai would’ve been better fitted for Venli’s role in the story. Personally, I think Eshonai would’ve fallen too easily into being the Radiant and that story would’ve been far more boring. And Brandon did do a general outline of the entire series before he started writing it. While he’s been willing to change minor things, such as the importance of Adolin, I doubt he’d completely swap two characters the book before.

I think at some point in the past I knew that the shard censors swear words, but I basically completely forgot that until now. And now I’m curious to know what all the replacement words are, so I’m going to try out every obscenity I know. If the censorship misses any, I’ll edit my post. Hi, I am new here, and am definitely not an evil librarian.

Detran finally finished his quiet chanting in the back of the Dakhor monks, being careful not to attract attention the whole time. Unsheathing his sword, he slunk towards his target: the young Awakener with the thousand breaths. With a single slice, he slit Mahz's throat, who fell to the ground. Feeling the immense power flow through him, he repressed the urge to immediately push it towards his power, instead keeping it in reserve. There wouldn't be much time, but he would have to gain as much Investiture through sacrifice as possible. It would take an immense amount to take control of the creature that could rival Voidus in power-even if the Alleystorm does behave as expected and enhance the power.

The magic on Ashyn came from the over-spill of the Shards on Roshar, but there was not one on Ashyn itself.

Relevant WoB: I remembered all the WoBs saying you can use Breaths to surgebind, but I couldn’t recall any explicitly saying the opposite was also true. Obviously stormlight fulfills the weekly requirement for Returned, but that doesn’t mean you can Awaken with it. Turns out you’re more knowledgeable than me though, @king of nowhere .

Ahh, @Lord Meeker. I shall not mourn and weep as I am sure that your ramen was not worldshattering. It was not made with the silken threads from the mystical Ruterain Ramen Tree; caressed with the steamy broth steeped in spices only found in the far off reaches on the sand dunes of Trermaien. And it most definitely didn't have tender meat harvested on the night of the concurrence of the Glitter moons marinated in the salty, spiciness that is tasty gloriousness. Check, check. Pffhhhttttt! @Archer Ok got it!

Wow Ron, just look at Drake Marshall go! He's really putting that Ballintain to good use. Indeed. Just look at those beautiful lines of Vigor, slicing through Matist Rist's final line of defenses. I think he might be a favorite to win this, but what's this? Jeeves has attacked him from behind. Drake is out of the game! Oh my, we were not expecting that turn of events. And now Jeeves is out as well! That's the price to pay for devoting everything to attacking. Snip is learning that lesson the hard way. He was able to take out Amil last round, but that left him exposed. He's down for the count. And with that, only eight Rithmatists remain. Who will take home the win? The Midnight Front comes to mind with regards to soul selling to demons. It's quite good and book 2 comes out this month. And yay Stonewielder!

It would be easiest for the person who broke it to do it like what happened with Kaladin and Syl, because they had a prior connection with the spren. But Brandon has hinted that it might be possible for another person to do it and something does seem to be happening with Adolin and Maya.

That's good to hear. I would not proclaim your allegiance so loudly, as there are several Liebrarians around here who will not appreciate it. Welcome to the shard! Can I offer you one of the DA's signature slightly tainted cookies? What books have you read? What characters are your favorite? Are you a person who joined as soon as they found out about this, or are you a lurker who has been observing us for months? Here's some friendly advice about the shard. I would stay away from sub forums about books you haven't read, as they are rife with spoilers. If you enjoy RP, then I recommend the alleyverse. The Cosmere Discussion area is a good place to propose theories you have, or just want to talk about the cosmere. All of the links in my signature are worth checking out, and have fun on the shard!

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of High Prince Dalinar the Blackthorn? I thought not. It's not a story the Radiants would tell you. It's a Singer legend. Dalinar was a High Prince of the Alethi, so powerful and so angry he could use the thrill to defeat opponents with shardplate and shardblade... He had such a mastery of the thrill that he could keep the family he cared about from dying. The thrill is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his family, which eventually, of course, he did. It's ironic he could protect his wife from others, but not himself.

I assumed Archer was trying to advertise the DA. Did you not read it? I appreciated it.

Agree with most of the posters here. While he will likely be overpowered, he is limited by his inability to do harm. And given the spread of things like hemalurgy and unkeyed metal minds, it won't be that impossible to imagine a situation in which he's not particularly op compared to everyone else. That said, way too early to speculate on era 4. For all we know, SA ends with the creation of a super shard that is a combination of multiple of the 16. Or some other force grows in numbers to combat him. He is after all only one man however op. You have to imagine him against the rest of the cosmetic will still be a heavily disadvantaged fight given he can't do damage and he's still limited to being finite.
