  3. The Stormfather knew. That doesn't mean he shared it. He was most likely bonded at the time seeing as pattern says he "survived." I don't see any way that the current spren can be as in the dark as they currently are unless the spren were complicit. After all... If the spren disagreed and didn't want the Recreance to happen, they could have just left.

  4. The reveal still seems like it was only a partial reveal in my opinion. The recreance was fueled by information that had been "discovered" multiple times in the past, only this time Honor raved about them destroying Roshar instead of providing moral support. Even then, I think they would have held out... But then they lobotomized a species and cemented their view of themselves as the monsters Honor had just promised that they were. When the spren encouraged the recreance, as I belive they did, well... Hard not to agree things have to stop. There's a lot of discussion about it in this thread.

  5. A picture I found on pinterest and thought it fit me well. I'd love to be a sorceress, and Sorana is the name of my eldest (still living and active) rp character and while she doesn't look at all like the woman in the picture, the expression and the strength of the woman are just like her. So I decided to use the picture for the shard. It's a pleasure to participate! Then I'll take the girl.

  13. The current working title is "Song of Changes." As it's a listener/singer focused book, it being titled after the listener songs is not surprising and somewhat expected. The listener songs are their books, as they were a culture with an oral history. I'm still partial to "Song of Secrets" but I think it's either going to stay with the working title or a new song.

  14. The first oath is so vague to be almost meaningless. You can make those words mean whatever you want them to. We're given an interpretation in book precisely to make things like Malata seem impossible. But the Skybreakers as a whole don't follow that interpretation. Life before Death: enjoy life because you're going to die? Preserve life cause death is inevitable? Harvest life to serve death? Strength before weakness: Be strong for others? Be strong at all costs? Journey before Destination: the journey is more important? The journey most be suffered through to get where you're going? You can make the first oath mean damnation near anything you want it to. The words may be the same, but they are not the same oath.

  15. A maybe-relevant WoB: I think the Dawnshards are Cultivation's equivalent of the Honorblades. We've been told that Soulcasters come from Aimia, which gives off a Cultivation-y vibe to my mind, so I would suggest a pairing like [Honorblades - Shardblades :: Dawnshards - Soulcasters], possibly.

  18. Sebarial's carefree nature as opposed to Dalinar and Jasnah's is certainly a reason why they disdain him, but I think there's more to it than that. Sadeas could be quite irrelevant as well, and they didn't disdain him for that reason. Quirks not withstanding, both Dalinar and Jasnah are the very embodiment of everything Alethi society thinks a man and a woman are supposed to be, while Sebarial...isn't. I've always thought their disdain for him had some root in that. That's also why I hope he isn't secretly a Ghostblood, even though that would be a good twist. It's nice to have Sebarial around as a self-assured contrast to the usual Alethi temperament.

  19. I dont know if this has been suggested before, and I doubt it will come true, but I will just throw it out there: Mistborn Era 3 will contain the hunt for a Mistborn serial killer. What if that killer is Kelsier? We know that Kelsier is somewhat of a psychopath, we know that he will be featured in Era 3, we can assume that he has an agenda, and that his actions wont necessarily be good ones. Kelsier always had the potential to become an antagonist/villain. What if he has become one, in Era 3?

  21. Just as an aside remember Kaladin mentions that he believes the Recreance didn’t happen all at once but more of a slow crumbling of the foundation of confidence in the Radiants. And he continues to explain that the power is derived from that confidence in their oaths. Not anything solid or stable, just chaotic human will/belief/confidence. Dalinar’s vision was created. Might not have been the literal truth. (Not aimed at anyone in particular just something to note that might have impact).

  25. Lanrielis' eyes grew wide at seeing the giant sandwich. This place is amazing! "What sort of work is there around here? I could use some funding again. The trip here was not cheap. I'm pretty sure the guy ripped me off a bit, but oh well." She shrugged broad shoulders. "At least I'm here."

  26. I think that's very likely. Iirc Rlain mentions her, Thude and Varanis by name. Seems like he is (or was ) part of their friends group. Which I think is really great and definitely not a coincidence. I really hope the next book has Rlain as one of the main characters, maybe he gets the interlude novella, or the format that Moash's chapters were in in OB. Personally I'm very excited about everything Listener related. Also he could help with this: About Eshonai's flashbacks, I'm curious as to how they will reveal any incredible things about her, I don't really think they could be as shocking as Dalinar's or Shallan's. Rather I think their main purpose is to complement Venli's character arc. Eshonai is, best I can tell, kind of the archetype of the Willshapers and Venli constantly compares herself to her sister. I think their dynamic thought their lives, and that contrast, could be very interesting when it's read together with post OB Venli.

  27. Perhaps it has something to do with the Truthwatcher qualities “Learned and Giving” as you put it. We know according to Hessi that Ba-Ado-Mishram was said to be “keen of mind”, “a highprincess” among the enemy and apparently their commander. To me this speaks a high level of intelligence that may exceed other Unmade. Starting off topic for a second, there was a theory that the Unmade with hyphens in their name are more intelligent than those that don’t (Re-Shephir and Sja-Anat being more intelligent than Neragoul and Ashertman, who seem more like the embodiment of forces (the Thrill, indulgence etc.)) Following this theory, it’s possible Ba-Ado-Mishram was extremely intelligent, even among the Unmade. This Intelligence seems to fit with the logical Truthwatcher attribute of “Learned”. The other attribute “giving”, seems to fit even better, since Ba-Ado-Mishram is a giver of voidlight among the Parshmen. So it’s apparent that she is also Learned and Giving just like the Truthwatchers, but in similar fashion to Re-Shephir’s ‘creation and curiosity” to Shallan’s, the values are wrong and twisted. Just as the Truthwatcher’s give knowledge and Progression, Ba-Ado-Mishram does the same, spreading knowledge of tactics and giving Voidlight to the Parshmen. Maybe Ba-Ado could identify with a quality in these Truthwatcher’s (in similar vein to Re-Shephir identifying with Shallan’s creations and curiosity). Maybe what draws Ba-Ado in, attracts it in is this “giving” quality? When someone wants to spread their knowledge, spread their power around to everyone (Progression) for the greater good, maybe Ba-Ado can identify with that. Maybe this giving quality of her’s could be because Odium “gave” her the most? As in most Intelligence, most power (if she can single-handedly Power the Parsh’s forms of power).

  28. If it follows the Surgebinding chart (the double eye), and it should, then it would be a circular gradiant, with the upper most and lower most (or central depending on the depiction) orders in those roles. Bondsmiths closest to Honor, with stonewards and Windrunners a step below, then Skybreakers and Willshapers. The Cultivation side has Truthwatchers central, with Edgedancers and Lightweavers a step out followed by Elsecallers and Dustbringer. As to the rest... I don't think the oaths will fall on a neat spectrum the way you wish. Lightweavers as an example, are definitely on the Cultivation side. And their freedom from any real proscribed code of conduct allows them to fit in any philosophical paradigm they wish, so long as they're honest with themselves.

  34. I agree with a lot of what @Mandamon says. I do like the idea, and also felt like it found its footing fairly late. However, I didn't get much emotion out of this story. I think technically from a writing standpoint it's one of your best, and I also agree that the jail scene was the best part of the story, but I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I've had trouble putting my finger on exactly why I don't care... I think it's multiple things and so nothing really stands out. For instance, I just don't care about M, or her rages. We're told about her rages, using that word, and we don't get a lot of context for why she feels rage. Some of that might be to keep up the is she/isn't she mystery, but I feel like that maybe that mystery is less important than understanding the POV character. I also feel like maybe some of the sensory details about the anger are off? Like, she says she's angry, that she has rage, but we're not given a lot of the, like, body language? distracting effects? of having so much emotion.... I feel like maybe the story is leaning too hard on the words "anger" and "rage" to convey the depth of what M is feeling and not really showing as much as I want it to? I also feel like just maybe I don't know enough about the weres or the world in general in the beginning to be worried about M, like @aeromancer mentioned. I feel like I don't have the setting down before the rising actions start and that just, like, shifts everything else off kilter. With E, I feel like sort of the story is presuming more out of the relationship the readers have with him than is warranted from what the text actually shows. At the beginning, he's just a plot point, a nosy neighbor who calls the cops and sets the real meat of the story into action. The end, though, I feel like treats E like he was an equal character with M almost, and tries to rehabilitate or at least evoke sympathy for him. I think there's just not enough framework in the text to have me even register E as a character, must less interact with him to the point of feeling sympathy for his predicament with some heretofore unknown nephew. I just have one grammar issue, and that's "Perspective students were lined up " -- it's "prospective," unless she's talking about how the line of students seems to recede in the distance (and it should probably be "prospective test-takers," now that I think about it, if they are already students trying to take placement exams...) anyway, it is well done and I don't think it should be scrapped. It just needs a bit of work is all.

  42. For me, it was definitely Elhokar. I gasped out loud. He was just beginning to become likeable and competent. On top of that, he died at the hands of Moash, who he'd barely escaped just a few months earlier. He was about 3 words away from saving himself. And, most appallingly, Kaladin, who had been an unstoppable force mere moments ago, suddenly came down with a nervous breakdown and just sat there and watched! Finally, his son was just snatched away again and the entire city fell. It was a perfect storm of horribleness.

  45. Some time ago I've put together a timeline of books. I've decided to translate it to English and post it with sources, so I went and searched for the WoBs to put them in the timeline. I haven't found all of those I was using at the time (see the end of this post) but I've also found some I haven't seen before, so... profit? Enjoy. Order of series: Dragonsteel White Sand Elantris Mistborn First Era Warbreaker Stormlight Archive (first pentalogy) Mistborn Second Era Stormlight Archive (second pentalogy) Mistborn Third Era Mistborn Fourth Era ------------------------------------------- Order of the books: (Entries not bolded have not been released yet) Dragonsteel White Sand (before Elantris) Elantris & Hope of Elantris (long before Mistborn First Era, but not thousands of years) Emperor’s Soul (technology didn’t change since Elantris so probably not much more than decades #2) Eleventh Metal The Final Empire Well of Ascension Hero of Ages (341 years before Alloy of Law) Warbreaker (closer than farther to Way of Kings) (between HoA and WoK #1 #2 #3) Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell (in the latter part of timeline but before Way Of Kings: #1 #2, and FAQ – if it’s correct – says it’s after Warbreaker) Nightblood (we don’t know whether it’s after Shadows for Silence..., but it’s before Stormlight Archive) Way of Kings (happens 300ish years after Hero Of Ages) Words of Radiance Edgedancer Oathbringer Stormlight Archive, book four (Rhythm of War) Stormlight Archive, book five (about 15 years before Stormlight 6 but the gap may as well be 10 or 20 years #1 #2 #3 #4) Alloy of Law (341 years after Hero Of Ages)(it’s after Stormlight 5 but we don’t know if it’s before Stormlight 6. It could also be after Stormlight 7.) Shadows of Self (year after Alloy of Law) Bands of Mourning (half a year after Shadows of Self) Lost Metal Stormlight Archive, book six (about 15 years after Stormlight 5) Stormlight Archive, book seven Stormlight Archive, book eight Stormlight Archive, book nine Stormlight Archive, book ten Mistborn Third Era (modern times, around 80s)(probably roughly about 50 years after Second Era) Sixth of the Dusk (just before Mistborn Fourth Era #1) Mistborn Fourth Era (sci-fi) ------------------------------------------- WoBs I cannot find now but I'm sure they exist since when I was putting together this timeline I was strictly going off only WoBs: the gap between Stormlight 5 and 6 could be 20 years (specifically 20 years, 10 and 15 I have sourced already) Warbreaker being closer than farther to Way of Kings

  46. It's finished! Or, as finished as it will get for a while. I printed a physical copy to give to Brandon at Boskone, and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. I wish that I had been able to put more illustrations in it, but there simply wasn't time. I am inordinately fond of my Thaylen eyebrows illustration, though. I feel like it really captures the spirit of the mashup. I'm also quite pleased with the Unkalaki tongue twisters. If only I had figured out a way to stick "Airsick lowlanders!" in somewhere. Anyway, here is the book! (Spoilered for size) I hope you like it! I also had some partial drafts for Stormlight versions of other Seuss books that I didn't make the cut for inclusion. So there may eventually be a sequel or improved draft that includes The Bitter Battle Book (about the war on the shattered plains) and a version of Green Eggs and Ham ("Amaram, Lord Amaram, I do not like the Diagram").
