Some more (low effort) memes in the cosmere. I have too much time in my hands. I finished reading Elantris today: Couple of memes from Roshar since I intend on diving back there soon: And couple from Mistborn Era 2 since I just love Wax and Steris: I wonder if Brandon has something against writing wedding ceremonies that don't get ruined? The weddings that go through without too much hassle are skipped instead of fully written out (like Adolin and Shallan's) or the characters get married without an actual proper ceremony (Vin and Elend, Wax and Steris' second attempt).5 likes

"Quietus, we need to talk." Epoch looked impatient. He usually did, which was darkly amusing, considering his power. Calamity had a good sense of humor. "Yes?" "The grocery store." "What? I have no idea what you're talking about." "The grocery store down the street. I can hear the screaming all the way over here." "Screaming does not always mean I had something to do with it." "Plus, I can see what you did to them." "I'm sure there are lots of epics that would tie civilians up with their own tendons." "...and the store just exploded." "That sounds like a you problem." Epoch glared at him. "Why?" "Some jerk took the last box of coco puffs." "What?" "It was a vile act of rebellion against our rule." "If you keep on doing this, there will be consequences." "See, that's what I told them."5 likes

Okay, given that it's that time of year, I have another SA parody to present to you, but not written by me. This piece was written by my younger brother, who had to write a very specific parody of the song "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" for a school assignment. He knew that I had written some Cosmere parodies, and asked me for advice; while the general idea came from me, most of the work is his. Edit: He has read SA, all the way through. When you see this (the image... Not sure where it'll go) and immediately think of Wayne... When someone recognizes your Mistborn book and you whisper "There's always another secret" and slide sneakily away while grinning like a maniac. When you're studying WWI and you wonder how it would've been different if they had soulcasters. When you don't even realize "soulcasters" isn't a word until Google tells you so. When you make all your passwords Cosmere-related. My last one was L!feBe4D3ath (I'm not using it anymore, which is why I'm posting it here...)3 likes

Prediction: M-Bot's obsession with mushrooms is the Vin's Earring of the Skyward series. A seemingly unimportant (yet frequently mentioned!) bit of characterization, which eventually turns out to be a massive clue hiding in plain sight the whole time. We're supposed to accept that a software glitch led M-Bot to misinterpret the command "lay low and take stock" as "obsessively catalog the local mushroom species", but I bet that's just his attempt to rationalize a behavior which, prior to his memory loss, originally had some other motivation. I'm looking forward to a future revelation being followed by M-Bot saying something like "Why are you all acting so surprised? Glitchy humans. I told you it was important to understand fungus biology way back when we first met..." Further more tentative prediction: some kind of human/fungal symbiosis is the source of cyto abilities (hence why understanding the mushrooms is important). We have nothing concrete so far about where these powers come from. Gran-Gran -> Chaser -> Spensa makes it seem hereditary, but that's never explicitly confirmed, and in Defending Elysium this seemed more like some kind of scientific research (bioengineered?) discovery. After Spensa figures this out, she'll be able to share these powers with her entire flight. Also, it would be hilarious if Brandon really did write a story in which mind expanding powers are gained by eating the right kind of mushroom :-)2 likes

K so hopefully nobody else has talked about this, (I'm not about to go looking through all of the posts about Elhokar in OB), because I don't want to look stupid. Anyways, I read the Stormlight Archive for the first time this last summer, and after reading all of Brandon's cosmere works, (+Skyward, Rithmatist, etc.), I decided to re-read Stormlight to better participate on here. While reading today, I found this, said by Elhokar... That description sounds an awful lot like pattern when Shallan first sees him in her drawings...If I'm right it means even before Elhokar starting to speak the oaths in OB, (even before any stuff with Wit or whatever that was I don't remember), we had foreshadowing/evidence in PART 4 of WoK, that Elhokar could become a Lightweaver. I really hope no one else has found this and I'm not waaaaaaaay late.2 likes
-
Sorry, you're late Yeah, Elhokar was seeing Cryptics that far back, as foreshadowing that he was on the Lightweaver path. Very cool spotting, nonetheless!2 likes
-
Gaz sees them too. In his viewpoint scenes in WoK he's always glancing at things out of the corner of his eyes just like Elhokar does. Also, the presence of Syl (not Kaladin himself as Elhokar thinks) drives off the Cryptic(s) and Elhokar stops hearing the Cryptic voices2 likes

NO WAY! I'm exactly the same! In all seriousness, I think it would be a cool idea, but it would not be a competition. At the moment I think that Mac could be the most powerful member of the alleyverse, (Considering that voidus is currently trapped, once voidus gets out Mac is dead). I suggested it mostly in jest, but if you want to give it a go, I would be willing to.2 likes

So i have a Question, So I've only read the first three of the Mistborn books and i dont know if this is answered in another book or not. Why was Mare not used to create a spike? Why did she get sent to the pits when the lord ruler knew she was a misting. that was the whole point in hunting down the mistings was to use them to create spikes. is this just a huge plot hole? Thanks.2 likes

*mind instantly goes to the Alleyverse* The only way to have a party that lasts for more than five minutes without conflict in the Alleyverse is to not have a party.2 likes

Klasten smiled. The waved the axe, as if he were cutting through an invisible body. Then he realized what he was doing could very easily be taken the wrong way, so he just put the tool back in his bag and uncomfortably shuffled his feet. He pointed at Damaya and gave her a thumbs up. What she said, he wanted to say. Sometimes being the strong but silent type had its drawbacks. A pebble fell on his head. He looked up to dee where it had come from, just in time for another to hit him square in the forehead. I get it, I get, he muttered in his thoughts. With one last apologetic glance towards Araha, he turned his back on here and began awkwardly continuing to walk down the tunnel, hoping his face had turned invisible by now so they couldn't see him blushing.2 likes

Hello and greetings from TUBA! Though originally created to gather intelligence on and stop the Dark Alley, we now give people of the Alleyverse a non-Hemalurgic alternative for baked goods. Our mission statement is to help and generally do good in the city, with various charity initiatives to this effect. We are essentially a bakery and general charity/help organization (with possibly a surprising amount of fighters - we've held our own in city attacks before). TUBA is a very public guild, with a main location in the Alleycity and other locations and businesses established most places. You can walk into the main building and join or be hired fairly easily. OOC, please ping AonEne or another active member to set something up that works for you! Our Discord server is very dead and honestly there's no reason to join it anymore, but I'll leave the link up anyway: https://discord.gg/k4uJwdy Storm's original RP from this post in 2018: See the Guild Thread for our current sheet.1 like

So, this is my first attempt a writing a SA fic. Please excuse bad language, English is not my native tongue. Also, this (and following chapters, there will be at least one more) is mostly me having fun with the characters and not to be taken all too seriously. It involves Adolin doing for Maya what we all want him to do, Adolin meeting Kaladin's family, some fun and maybe some vague Kaladin/Adolin undertones even though I don't actually ship them. You can also read it on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17042888/chapters/40070771?view_adult=true (There's currently a not-so-revised version online, will update it later) Well, uh, have fun. And, of course, this contains Oathbringer spoilers. (With spoiler tags to not use too much space.)1 like

My preferred method for comparing superheroes/characters/magicians is to do two mental matchups. The first is the standard test where you pit them against enemies and try and guess how many they could defeat. The second is a test where the subject is dropped in the desolate wilderness and told to survive for as long as they can. That way the people with the power to create, not just destroy, get their time to shine. To be clear, I'm not recommending we use this system. It's only good for theoretical comparisons when you get bored.1 like

I can do better. I have exactly zero leads as to who the traitor(s) are. But, I would like to hear more from @Ookla the Libre He does frequent the Shard, but hasn't stopped by SE in the last little bit. Therefore, I expect him to not have many comments regarding the game, but a quick read-through and thoughts on the read-through would be good. Perhaps your unique experiences are enough to help catch someone that the rest of us overlooked Ookla the Libre(gancho) Consider this the equivalent of a D1 poke vote, except somewhat late in the cycle.1 like

Saw it on Saturday. Loved this film too! I'm torn as to whether this is the best Spider-Man film, but I'll put it in the top 10 best Superhero movies in the past 5-6 years for sure! That being said, Into the Spider-Verse is totally unique and groundbreaking in terms of what we can now do with Legacy characters and trippy, fun superhero stories. This year has been the Year of the Spider overall.1 like

Wait a second... @Ookla the Meeker , your Era 3 character has wire Proficiency, os he can use wires or threads as weapons. One of the major setbacks of this is that the attack range is determined by the length of the actual thread. However, when you have threads like The Longest Thread (Misadventures), then you're basically unstoppable!!!1 like

One day, Kokichi and Doctor Funtimes met up. Calamity was too busy to notice. A week later, he glanced down at what they had done. He promptly burned the world, making sure there was absolutely no remnant of it anywhere and restarting from the beginning.1 like
