  1. When Kaladin wields Syl as a shardblade, his eyes glow blue. When Lift wields Wyndle as a shardrod, shardstick, shardfork, etc. her eyes glow white. During the final battle of Oathbringer it is mentioned that Szeth's eyes glow grey. These seem to correspond to each Radiant order's Gemstone: Windrunners - Sapphire, Edgedancers - Diamond, Skybreaker - Smokestone. Does this mean that Dustbringer's eyes glow red like ruby? Or possibly pink? They prefer the term Releasers, but did others give them the name Dustbringer (similar to voidbringer) because of their red eyes and propensity to destroy things?

  2. Hi! Well i know this post is pretty old, but when i saw it i said naww, did someone really cared about creating this? Stormlight is a real good series, and the idea was really good so, i tried to take it a little further. Using your game, your stats and your rules, i searched for some more accurate glyphs, and made this. Tower and king are the glyphs from dalinar's banner, squire and knight are nan and sas (nothing special), soulcaster is transformation glyph, general is some strange-named one that means "high" and scout the one that means "storm". Also, i inverted the position of attack/life stats (it really just came out like that) and give them that wooden theme that makes them look like the in-world game is supposed to look. I wanted to share it cause i loved the idea and i just had to take them higher, and once i did i didn't want them to just stay in there. This is my first post, and i'm not that good at english, so sorry for that. Hope you enjoy... and play Edit: so i just realized i made a terrible mistake, colors! i painted the cards, so if someone wants to print them, they can play easily. I would like to post the images in their original size (5cmx7cm i think) so it doesn't affect the resoultion, but i don't want to be banned away . I'm new and i don't actually know if the size (and resolution) that is shown in the post is the one that is saved when you download it, anyways if that happens just ask me for my e-mail and i'll send you the originals. Also, i will be working on some back stuff (i don't know how it's named, i'm spanish). I was thinking about something like the windrunners logo (something that everybody recognizes) but maybe i'll look a little further for something more "global" (maybe).

  3. It’s past midnight and I’m sleeping in my jeans so it’s time for Itiah’s Character Tips 201, 10 awesome tips to get your characters on track! 1. Remember the underrated. There are so many underrated powers in the Cosmere it’s insane how everyone sticks to Radiants and Mistborn. I have not yet seen an Alleyverse Nicroburst character, despite it being an awesome power. 2. Go against the odds. Who says you can’t have a legless steelrunner? There are some things you might make that make people go “that’ll be weird as, mate” (like an Atium Ferring for example) but an awesome character is one that goes against the odds. Props to Gancho’s armless Thug, it’s a real shame he hasn’t been used all that much. 3. Find the awesomeness in specialisation. Everyone wants their character to be awesome. The unfortunate thing is that too many people are using the same methods to get there (making their character OP or just have a similar power to everyone else). But specialising is the real awesome. I consider Nekorb to be somewhat awesome but does that make him OP? No. I think Alask is cool with the Shade in his soul but does that make him OP? Not really. 4. Be Creative. Joe is a 3rd Ideal Dustbringer and steel/pewter twinborn. Sound familiar? It’s because everyone does this at some point. If you want a unique character, think uniquely. Bonus points on this section go to Axelius. He has a dog character, for storms sake. 5. Mish and Mash. You will probably get a lot of ideas when making characters. The trick is to combine as many ideas of half-baked characters into one fully-complex character who encompasses what you wanted to include. I have something like 6 one-shot character ideas. I used to have more, but combining them is what ended up in characters such as Max. 6. Loss is good, but better when we see it. I dare you to go to the character sheets and count how many dead-relatives of characters there are. This is a quick and easy way of adding complexity to your character. It also works, and I’m not going against saying how someone has been through hard and hard times and that has made them tough. You know what’s better than saying how your character developed in their History section? Show us. Give them something to lose. A character who’s parents were already dead and is grizzled will had no where near the same emotional resonance as a character who’s parents we’ve seen die on-screen. Props to Silva’s portrayal of Mejin’s family. Mejin has something to lose. She did. We can see her pain. That immediately is better than saying in her History: “Has dead siblings, feels bad.” 7. Names are hard, but good. Your character is known by their name. Make sure it fits them. 8. Bold out your headings on their sheet. A cosmetic thing, but: Name: Itiah Age: As old as the sun Morals: No one exists. Characters: Rashan, Lusk Will never look as good as; Name: Itiah Age: As old as the sun Morals: No one exists. Characters: Rashan, Lusk Seriously, bolded headings makes everything flow better, look better, and overall make things better. Use them. 9. Last names are important. Even if you don’t use them that much, last names are so very helpful. What if someone wants to refer to your character in respect on their last name? (Eg. Master Sheonar, Master Mentiz) There are just a whole bunch of scenarios where irl you’d use someone’s last name. Just doing a little extra work and adding one more name would be helpful to everybody (unless it’s a part of your characters past or identity, for example, native Rosharan darkeyed don’t have last names.) 10. You’re character is not always the centre of attention. Nuff’ said. So, yeah those were Itiah’s Character Tips 202, As you can tell it’s 1 AM and I’m still in my jeans. Please use this tips unless they’re bad. Have a good night.

  5. IN WHICH THINGS GET WORSE.
  6. Couple things: First: Yup, Per WOB there is a reasonable argument to be made that even Feruchemy is End Positive, since there is still a small amount of Investiture needed to facilitate moving the Investiture into and out of the metalminds. But I think that is similar to how most people are not considered Invested like a radiant or somebody with heightenings, even though all living things have some Investiture flowing to them in the form of a Spark of Life that powers their living body day to day. He says that generally the terms are only useful in comparing Metallic arts but less for the other systems. For example, there are various arguments to be made that Breaths could be End-Positive or End-negative depending on whose perspective you were talking about. Second: In a feruchemist as I understand it is not that they Bounce Back, rather there is a constant flow of Investiture between their bodies and their spiritwebs accomplishing all the normal things it takes to make a sentient being functional (eating, aging, sensing the world around it, etc), and Feruchemy allows you to fiddle with the Rates at which those flows are happening by either diverting some of the flow into a metalmind storage, or adding what is stored back into the normal Flow as an added supplement. So to use the money analogy, what you are doing is taking your daily wages of $100 per day and saving $10 each day for a week in metal-mind piggy-bank. During that week you have to live on $90 each day, but next week you have enough saved to live as if you were making $110 per day for the whole week. Or you can blow it all at once on one crazy purchase.

  8. I just nervous around other Epics. Nate’s words. Liam raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the slip. Yet another Epic. He almost chuckled. How many Epics could he meet in one day and still stay alive? Who knows… Before he could speculate Nate’s abilities, Jade’s eyes went wide. “Oh my god. Oh... oh my god,” she said, staring off behind them. Without missing a beat, Nathan grimaced. “Oh yeah. That… that looks bad.” Liam frowned. He hadn’t heard anything, no commotion to herald an accident. He was about to call out the pair for their ill-timed attempt at distraction when Kokichi spun around to look behind them, limbs spinning out like helicopter blades. Liam ducked on reflex, nearly sliding backwards. For a startled second, Liam blinked. And when he opened his eyes, Kokichi was gone. He stared at the space where the exuberant Epic had just been for a moment, then realized Jade and Nathan were gone as well. Could it have been Kokichi? The thought crossed Liam’s mind, but he shook his head. Never had they spontaneously disappeared, at least not without a cue of some sort. So, the question was, Jade or Nathan? After a moment of thought, Liam stood and gripped Nate’s shoulder. “Well, looks like you’re along for the ride. Time to find some Epics,” he said.

  9. Lee made to invite Nate-Please-Don’t-Kill-Any-Innocents-Right-Now on their epic quest of murderifcation, which Kokichi was fine with. The more the merrier, if they did say so themself, and they totally did. Unfortunately, Nate-Please-Don’t-Kill-Any-Innocents-Right-Now didn’t seem too enthusiastic about the idea. “Well, I do have some very useful skills, but... I might jeorparafizs the.. Whatever-it-is you intend to do. Oh. And ‘Nate-Please-Don’t-Kill-Any-Innocents-Right-Now’ isn’t part of my name, I just nervous around other Epics.” Other Epics? Does that mean he’s one too? Jeez. They couldn’t swing a cat around in Edmonton without wacking it into one Epic or another. What unfortunate cats. They were about to ask if ‘Nate-Please-Don’t-Kill-Any-Innocents-Right-Now’ was their father’s name, but their train of thought was interrupted by an INCRIDBLE UN SUSPiCOUS DISTACTION. ”Oh my god. Oh... oh my god,” Jade said, the ruse as paper thin as... uh, paper. ”Oh yeah. That... that looks bad,” Nathan added on. The INCRIDBLE UN SUSPiCOUS DISTACTION was incredibly suspicious. So, of course, everyone fell for it. Even people who weren’t LISTENING turned their heads. Kokichi did not simply turn their head. They turned their entire body, their VERY TOTALLY LONG legs following too. They shot out behind them, the exposed skin of the top of their making contact with Jade’s ankles at the most contrived angle possible with an improbably soft touch at the last possible moment.

  11. "Well, I do have some very useful skills, but... I might jeopardize the... Whatever-it-is you intend to do. Oh. And 'Please-Don't-Kill-Any-Innocents-Right-Now' isn't part of my name, I just nervous around other Epics." Jade had been trying to find words that could be taken as either slight interest or polite disinterest in Liam's proposition, but Nate's statement buried her thoughts in a rush of panic. Other Epics. He was talking about Kokichi. He had to be. They were the only obvious Epic at the table; they were who Nate would refer to when he talked about other Epics. Unless Nate had some sort of power enabling him to seek and find anyone unlucky enough to be like him, he'd have to go by sight, and his sight would tell him there were three ordinary people and one Epic engaged in tense conversation over a box of donuts. But if he did have that power…. Jade had never been one to hide one of her powers, not in the way most Epics did, anyhow; she still wasn't sure if pretending one belonged to Nathan fit the bill. But from all she'd seen, the revelation of a hidden power was never received well by the Epic's opponent. It was a common trick, but a dirty one—and whoever played it had to be mostly certain they'd win that fight. Losing to an Epic was never a desirable option, but losing to an enraged one with a personal vendetta toward you was a waking nightmare. She'd never hidden either of her powers before, but now she'd hidden them both, from two Epics, both of whom were calm now but who might decide at any moment that calmness was for losers and pick a fight. She could get herself and Nathan out of there, of course, but she wouldn't tip her hand unless she had no other choice. And for now, as little as she might like it, she had a choice. There were donuts on the table, and those donuts could become any number of things. A smoke bomb, a rubber chicken, something with no other purpose but to make noise and a lot of it—but she couldn't port it to the other side of the shop without porting herself with it, and throwing it would be far too obvious. She thought she heard a frantic skittering noise, but it seemed to come from behind her, and she needed Kokichi and Liam to look behind them if her distraction were to work. So, she opted for a more time-tested method. Her hand flew to her mouth, and she focused her gaze on the space behind Kokichi and Liam. "Oh my god. Oh…oh my god." Nathan, always good at playing along, followed her lead, contorting his face into an expression of horror and disgust. "Oh yeah. That…that looks bad." With her free hand, she found Nathan's, and clasped it beneath the table. As soon as the attention of their companions was elsewhere, she could port out of the shop.

  13. The titles of the books so far have corresponded with titles of books in-universe. The Series title, Stormlight Archive, is similar and actually tells us about the series as a whole. The Stormlight Archive, otherwise known as the gem library, is a massive information storage device and the books(gems) contained with in are the story of Roshar. The Archive is the back up for Human/Rosharian society. What ever is happening next, most likely at the end of the first five book cycle, will be cause for the archive to be used in some way that goes beyond what we have seen so far. It is possible that the Archive is a way/holds instruction for Dalinar's Radiants to get off world if things go down hill in the fight against Odium. It is noted in the books that Urithiru has alien architecture. It is not from an another planet, but it is the societal escape pod that the humans or the Heralds build in case they lost the war against the Singers. I think the archive originated as a instruction manual for the operation of the city. The reason that the walls look like they have gemstones is that they do. The gemstones in the walls act as a way for the city to not fall apart when it lifts off. It is a structural integrity/life support/defense system/computer system that spreads through out the whole of Urithiru. We know that some of the Heralds were not born on Roshar, I am willing to bet Kelek is the one who built it, possibly before he became a herald. I am also willing to bet that it is based on the design of the floating cities of Ashyn. Given that the city is possibly a ship it would explain why the Oathgates are all centered at Urithiru. The Oathgates are not for trade, they are to allow the human population to escape when Odium decides to commit genocide against the humans and end the fight once and for all. That is why they can operate with only one shardholder and why they have to be unlocked at each of the gates instead of from Urithiru. Additionally, that explains why they are so large and also why the control room can transport on its own. I am willing to bet that the Oathpact and whatever else that holds Odium back was in response to Odium preparing to wipe out humans once and for all. Which is why the Heralds made the pact with Honor and Urithiru was not used. Just like the origin of shardblades was lost, so was the origin and true purpose of Urithiru. The Radiants started using it as a base because it was isolated and the life support systems functioned enough so as to allow humans to live there. Even the old Radiants did not know exactly what they where living in. When the Alethi find the tunnel leading out of the basement and into the surrounding mountains, that is not an escape route, that is an exhaust port for what ever engine allows the city to fly. The gem column is probably a part of the engine/reactor that lifts/sustains the city. The unmade was somehow feeding off of that, which is why it was in the basement attached to the gem pillar. I think the Sibling might be some sort of Spren based AI, which is why it is crucial for the functioning of the city. The pillar, the lifts, and the gemstones in the walls remind me of Atlantis from Stargate: Atlantis. Down to the life support that functions without the city being active. I also think that Ash may be responsible for all of the current problems on Roshar. That story that Hoid tells Shallan about the girl who climbed the wall is about Ash leaving the ship/base of the humans when they landed and been given Shinovar. The light that came in was Stormlight, which might have allowed the humans to regain control of their Surgebinding like powers and is why the Singers went to war with the humans. The Singers did not want to see their world destroyed, so they decided to wipe out the humans, that hatred of the humans is what led Odium to taking their side and creating the Fused. The war must have destroyed the human ship, which is why Kelek built Urithiru as a way for the humans to escape. It is also why the Cryptics, which are tied to constants of the universe, bonded the Lightweavers and require them to say Truths instead of Ideals. It is because the Truths are meant to restore what was lost instead of build something new like the rest of the Radiant orders. The Lightweavers are also the key to running Urithiru because their truths restore, which is why Shallan was able to remove the Midnight Mother from the gem column because she is tied to the city by virtue of her order that reflects Ash the Herald. I know this sounds very far fetched, but think about all the information we have so far. The archive is not just an archive, it is an investure powered computer. That is what ties all of this together.

  15. "... Out of the ordinary, flash your brights. Okay?" Liam finished, walking a bit further and into an alley, ostensibly the location of his van. Nate turned to get into his car, then thought better and went to the trunk first. Opening the spare tire compartment, he removed a black and red armored vest, took off his jacket and put the vest on, then returned his jacket to his shoulders. "... Offer much protection, but the mags are worth it. Neither will really matter if I go Bloodlight, but they might keep me stable." He took bracers of the same style and purpose from it and put them on, sliding each sleeve up to strap them to his forearms, fingers sliding neatly through holes at the first knuckle. "... Hope I don't need these," he was saying. "Knee guards? No, they don't go well over jeans, might pinch." With more time, he would have put them on underneath, or changed into better pants for it, but just then he was in a hurry. "Ready," he confirmed to himself, closing the trunk and walking to the driver door. He unlocked it and climbed in, then started the Saab, which let out a beautiful purring sound. A van pulled out of the alley Liam had gone into. Looking through the window, Nate saw that it was Liam driving, and he put his foot on the accelerator to follow him. It would be a few minutes before he realized there was another van following him.

  16. Nicroburst was walking down the street with Blindside when all of a sudden three figures appeared in front of them. The one directly in front of them gestured, and the thing in front of her fell to the ground again. The woman folded her arms. "I can do a lot worse than that, if you don't explain why we're here instead of the place I picked." Nicroburst looked at the sky and let out a loud groan. "Of course, not one, not two, but three in one day. And if you count them individually, it's what, 8? First an ambush, then the sky blacks out, then I just have to be noble and help someone up, and they turn out to be a sparking perception Epic who gives me a headache, and then, when I finally get a handle on things, a pair of Epics appear from thin air and start a fight! Oh, and the whole thing happens to be on my sparking birthday!"

  17. They weren't outside the shop. That had been Jade's goal. Not a flashy one, not a terribly ambitious one—and that was the point. Just port outside the shop, somewhere out back, and hightail it to the nearest place offering relative privacy so they could determine what to do next. Jade would have argued to leave the city; she wasn't sure what Nathan would have wanted to do, but it probably wouldn't have involved staying near the shop. She stood on a street, one that hadn't weathered Calamity well, if the cracks and potholes were anything to go by. To one side, a tree-lined street, the branches overgrown and tangled up with each other, forming a haphazard canopy over driveways and rooftops. To the other, a stadium. The sports team it hosted was probably long defunct, the audience who watched them long gone, but the stadium still stood beside her. So did Kokichi. They didn't stand, technically speaking; whatever weird dance move Jade had only caught a glimpse of had sent them into an awkward sprawling position, and that was the position they'd ported in. Kokichi was there. They'd known, they'd apparently been one of the only people in the shop who had guessed what Jade was about to do, and they'd tagged along on purpose. Jade's first thought was for some sort of weapon, but the mere idea of holding a gun or a baseball bat turned her stomach, and it was too late for subtlety anyway. Somehow, Kokichi had guessed what she was and pretending otherwise was pointless—and possibly deadly now, if Kokichi had planned to exploit her powers, or to do something to her, or to Nathan. Kokichi was already starting to their feet, complicating Jade's original idea, but she went with it anyway. A puddle of cooking oil appeared beneath their shoes, spreading outward about two feet as the topmost surface of the asphalt was transformed to the slick substance, the second layer becoming smooth concrete. Jade folded her arms. "I can do a lot worse than that, if you don't explain why we're here instead of the place I picked."

  19. "I... Well... Yeah, that seems as good an idea as any. Plus you'll be safer—physically, aside from some pain—If I'm there. No telling what he can do." Liam gave him a funny look. The stammering made it difficult to understand the man sometimes. Something about his powers? "What's with-" Nate muttered "... Oh. I meant Nathan, not Ko... kichi, was it? Nathan seemed suspicious." “Nathan?” Liam considered it. “He could be the Epic of the two, or Jade is, or both. And I’m sure Kokichi will be fine.” A smile crossed his face as he thought about what might be going on wherever they were. He couldn’t fathom exactly what Kokichi might do, but it would be ridiculous. And likely very inhibiting for their captors. Liam grabbed a doughnut from the neglected box on his way towards the exit. Now, where could they be, he wondered. Kokichi must have some sort of effect on the teleporter… somewhere thematically-appropriate… “Hey Nate, know of anything… peculiar or important happening in town? Or maybe something to do with Karabiner?”

He didn't want to kill someone by mistake, but if he was hit then the guns would be virtually the same within his power-range.

  23. Nightblood is weird, it completely Annihalates it's target in All Three Realms, and then if Im not mistaken absorbes all the converted Investiture. By comparison shardblades damage the Soul, but there is enough left that it can still be healed by F-Gold, Regrowth surge etc, so presumably Odium can consciously restore them. Nightblood prevents that because it Eats ALL the pieces. As I understand it (though it is debated) all planets are going to have fairly unique Cognitive Realms, influenced largely by the population's collective expectation/image of it. Thus Roshar has a Gem theme, while Metals glow and act as a window/gate to the Spiritual Realm on Scadrial. Strongly debated, no resolution. Based on Harmony, it seems unlikely to me that you'd be able to maintain any sort of balance with that many competing Intents, especially at ten. There are arguments that certain combinations might work better together than others and make it possible. On the other hand, once you have several already, adding another is going to cause less and less upset. So if you could get to 10, Id think the next 6 would be easier that the last, but I wouldnt bet on anyone in particular being able to pull it off (other than that obvious dude).

  29. First off, does anyone know the name of the game that I don't think that the name was mentioned at any point. Secondly, I made a game! It's based off of a game that was played in Oathbringer, and other than who was playing it, it has no spoilers. Anyways, I based it off of playing cards down next to each other (esp. wooden cards). The battlefield starts with 4 cards laid out in a 2x2 pattern, with each player having 2 squires. The rest of the cards are placed in your hand (your barracks), giving each player 10 cards. Starting with the first player, each player alternates placing cards down adjacent to an already placed card. Each card has an health value and an attack value. If the health value of the card is less than or equal to the combined attack of all enemy cards touching it (diagonally adjacent is not touching), then you flip that card face down, capturing it. The game ends when either both players run out of cards, one player loses all their cards on the field, or one player loses their king. If it's one of the last 2, then the player whose cards were captured loses, otherwise the player with the most uncaptured cards on the field wins. The Cards: (5x) Squire: 3 Health, 1 Attack (2x) Knight: 5 Health, 2 Attack (1x) Tower: 8 Health, 3 Attack (1x) Scout: 3 Health, 1 Attack, You may reposition this card to any legal space after you place your card. (1x) Soulcaster: 3 Health, 1 Attack, Before you place a card, you may soulcast: Pick an adjacent enemy, if you have that card in your hand, you remove the opponent's card from the game and replace it with your card of the same rank. (1x) General: 6 Health, 3 Attack, All adjacent allies gain +1 Attack while the general is uncaptured. (1x) King: 10 Health, 5 Attack, This card is immune to the soulcaster, If this card is captured, you lose. Note: All the glyphs were created using the alphabet in one of the pictures in book 3.

I’m new here, but I have a car.” Liam was about to ask if he needed a ride and was pleased to have his question answered. Nate then mumbled something, but Liam didn’t catch it. Liam walked outside, leading Nate along. “Well, you can follow my van then,” he said over his shoulder. The way Nate’s voice peaked when he mentioned Karabiner intrigued him, but he let it slide. He could get around to possibly interrogating him after they found Kokichi. They crossed the street, and Liam walked to the alley where the van was parked. He turned to Nate, hand on the door. “If you happen to see anything out of the ordinary, flash your brights. Okay?”

  35. I think it far more likely that she'll be able to give them the same information as all of the other heralds would, and tell them about what the Dawnshards were, the fall of Ashyn... All of it. But that that information isn't going to help them at all. The Dawnshards are lost and/or changed. Honor's death makes certain historic thing infeasible. Etc. Etc. Her not knowing doesn't make sense. Her knowledge being worthless does.

  37. We call LARP "improvisational theater with focus on teamwork and creativity". Helps when someons asks what you have done the weekend and you don't want to answer: I've been fighting orcs and killing demons. In my experience there are always people tend to react bad to that hobby, especially at work. But to really answer your question: which fandom are you talking about? Or if you don't want to talk about it, can you at least sum up what you are doing there? Principally "teamwork" could work, or maybe "creativity" as well. "Research"? And then construct something like "network" or "group" around and you should end up with an alright description. It really depends on how much you want to soften what you are doing and who you are talking to. @Ooktapus The Fierce

  40. Don't worry, that's just a sign you want more! It's longer than any of his other non-Cosmere books: Steelheart was roughly 318 pages in the hardcover, Calamity was 410. Skyward is a tiny bit over 500. I think it's just the mix of 1) we had the pre-released chapters, so it's less of the actual book we read. And 2) the last book we had by Sanderson was over 1200 pages long. Skyward is a little over of 1/3 of that, and not nearly as dense. Honestly, since we're getting 4 of these books instead of the usual trilogy* I'd say we have plenty of time for more story. *I mark this down because recently it seems like his trilogies have been running away from him...

  43. You know you bring up a separate point that I hadn't really considered before. Jasnah is a heretic and so is Dalinar. And the ruler is the head of the Vorin church as well as state. There is going to be some serious, high sparrow level religious upheaval to deal with...until now I was too caught up with screaming "slay Jasnah slay" @Ruinationday Rainer--great edits! I love it when people do the hard thinking for me. YAS. And I could actually see Vivenna warming to Szeth. If Szeth and Rlain are allowed to spend too much time together, Roshar might actually implode into a black hole of silent, existential isolationism Vivenneth? No no I've got it--Szezure. Lopen would have the perfect explaination for why their union should sound like a medical condition

  44. I think shipping Syl and Kaladin is a complete reach and is kind of a disservice to the radiant-spren relationship that BS has cultivated between them. This is not a romantic relationship at all and feels far more like a father and child or just plain platonic. Even when she was "human sized" in Shadesmar there was no indication that there was any sort of attraction between them. Shipping them seems wrong. There is still ample opportunity for BS to introduce new Radiants and characters that will be more suited for Kaladin than Shallan or Laral, and bringing back Tarah is a real possibility since he included a glimpse of their time together.
