  2. The turn is over, but the next Night won't begin quite yet - I've had a bit of a family crisis appear out of nowhere (things are okay now), and haven't been able to do rollover. The Turn will begin tomorrow instead (which is fine, as Mondays are always awkward anyway).

  3. Stoneward molds rocks into giant tube and sticks Nightblood in the top. Elsecaller soulcasts tube into metal and fuel. Dustbringer ignites fuel. Boom, rocket. Nightblood gets flung over to Braize and eats Odium. The end.

  4. I would also say a common misvisualization is that the Herdazians are Caucasian. From the description in the books, they would look like Latinos, but in the audiobooks, Lopen is read with an Australian accent. I can't argue with that, because Brandon loves how the books are read. Personally, though, when I read the books, I always imagine Herdazians with a Mexican accent like Luis from Ant-man.

  5. And the winner is... @BitBitio, with Shai! It was a very, very close round. I’m going be off the Shard for the next 6-7 days (and if I’m on, it will be limited), so I’m going to wait to start the next round of roasts. So, that concludes Round 1! Stay tuned, everyone!

  6. For the sake of not wasting all the time I put into this, I am going to post this anyway. I personally don't think it changes much, but perhaps others disagree? Ok, First thing, when reading this post, please keep in mind that I started it right after Rath's second post. So I have been working on it off and on for ~14 hours. I also wanted to post it before I went to bed, so this probably isn't quite as well put together as I originally intended it to be. I am also nervous that with how late it is, if I keep editing it, I may just make this post worse. I am also going to put my conclusions at the top of my post because... I feel like it. And am tired. I don't need good reasons if I am tired. : ) My conclusion on Ark is... He is a Jester. Except... I don't think jesters are in this game as a role. Which makes this much more difficult. Village-Ark... Just doesn't make sense to me. Avoiding questions. Attempts to draw attention away that actually draws more attention? These are all working against the village. Elim-Ark would make sense if and only if he is a thug I think. Draw as much attention to him to avoid attention being drawn to others. That way if the village decided to lynch him, it wastes an entire day for the village to do so. (or entire cycle in our case with the lack of coinshot) And I would be convinced on him being elim if Meta hadn't said, "not inactive, persay, but holding back"... But now I regret putting the conclusion at the top, as you haven't read that part yet... Sorry. Cycle 1 Ark: Snipexe replied with a counter to Ark's vote, pointing out he had no reason to vote on Snipexe. Then Fifth: Ark wrote both of these things off as a gut read in-thread, and didn't retract the vote. However, I don't understand how you can have a read (gut or otherwise) on someone who literally just posted saying they would post a little later in the day. I PMed Ark and am not happy with the answer I got as to why he chose this vote. But for the moment, I guess I can write this instance off as beginner tenancies/not having time... Devotary expressed concern over Ark during day 1. Though they did retract their vote from Ark by the end of the day. The two players that expressed concern about Ark during cycle 1, both died cycle 1. Probably a coincidence, but something that I think should be noted anyway. Cycle 2 Ark: Ark quickly joins the bandwagon on Itiah after Jondesu starts the votes and Orlok agrees. I think the reasoning behind this vote seems fine. But the timing of it is interesting. Meta had his vote on Ark, but then Gancho and Elandera both voted on him, and Meta retracted saying: I don't know exactly what to think of this as it could either be Meta pulling out of the vote, realizing that elim-Ark actually might get lynched, or it could be he was trying to imply that he was pulling out to give us the impression of the above. The part that makes me most uncertain are the words "but holding back". This really sounds to me that Meta may have been trying to set up Ark. And so far is the only significant defense I have found for Ark. (other than being a jester) Once again, Elandera said something against Ark, and got targeted... This is starting to get weird as people who speak up against Ark seem at this point keep being attacked. It would be a strange pattern for elims to have. Cycle 3 Ark: Ark, I have been told this is your 3rd game. One of which was LG49, which was nontraditional. You are annoyed out of the two games you have played you haven't gotten to be an elim? There will always be a less than 50% chance of being randomly picked to be an elim, as there will be more villagers than elims. This statement just seems weird to me. But Fifth's death breaks the cycle of people Targeting Ark dying. Cycle 4 Ark: I don't think this post means anything. Meta was pretty much going to die regardless, so elim-Ark would want to seem like a villager and vote on Meta. Village-Ark would also likely vote. The apology is just that, an apology. There is no reasoning or anything behind it. Steeldancer said this: This is one of the few posts about Ark we received confirmation on, as we got the response: However, this post doesn't do anything to address or question Steel's post. Instead, if anything, it blows off the comment and then tried to redirect attention to someone else... Now my biggest issue is that this post almost seems half-hearted to me... Steeldancer then... was killed. Though I doubt this has to do with his comment on Ark, as I posted a much more aggressive post towards Ark that same cycle. Cycle 5 Ark: A couple things: By voting early in the cycle, you avoid the appearance of joining a bandwagon. Something you have done in earlier turns. Yet by voting on Rath, someone else who has a large argument for his lynch, you would bring the attention again away from you, and to him. Asking why someone is suspicious of you, while as of that moment, having not addressed any questions directed at you truthfully, is kind of funny to me. I would think that you would want to minimize the amount of back and forth needed to clear you, and start by addressing issues already in thread. You are not suspicious of Bard? I am suspicious of anyone I do not have explicit reason to trust. There is current reason to trust Orlok and Araris, even if they don't trust each other. I personally do not think there is a similar reason to trust Bard. If I have missed something though, I would more than welcome being corrected. Lastly, I feel like you were intentionally making it difficult to get information out of you a couple hours ago. Perhaps I am wrong and you were just really busy IRL. Though if that were the case, I would have appreciated you telling me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh yeah... And does this count as being ninja'd by Rath, Fura, Ark, Orlok, and Araris? : ) This isn't quite as definitive, or probably as helpful as Orlok's analysis... But its something. I don't think I will be on much until after rollover. Though I will be able to read posts, just not post anything substantial myself.

  7. Okay so I saw a few of the Explain a Film Plot badly things earlier and thought they were funny, so I decided to do them for the cosmere books. I think some of them are funny, so I decided to share them. Hopefully it'll at least get a few laughs. If anyone has any more or any different ones, please post them. Spoilers for the cosmere, obviously. I'll label each one just in case though. The Final Empire: Well of Ascension: Hero of Ages: Alloy of Law: Shadows of Self: Bands of Morning: Warbreaker: Elantris: I couldn't think of any for Stormlight, hopefully someone else can [EDIT by Moderator: This topic originally was solely cosmere but has moved beyond that, so I moved this to Entertainment Discussion.]

  8. Me and my brother were talking about the Lord Ruler and how much foresight and effort it would have been to build the storage caches. Caning all that food, hiding it in caves, and repeating every few years. All the time keeping it secret from everyone but the workers.... At which point my brother asked in a confused voice: "the Lord Ruler didn't do it all himself?" "No" l said, now confused myself. "You thought the Lord Ruler, god emperor of the Final Empire, was canning food in his basement?" " Well... I thought that was why he looked so tired in book one. " Now I can't get the image of the Lord Ruler stocking shelves in a Wal-Mart uniform out of my head

I.ve been a bad fan and really haven`t posted in a wile, but I was on a search for a new style. This is my first Kaladin piece, not how I imagined it honestly, but his story fitted the mood of the image and the style I wanted to try. So here it is, a really sad moment of our protagonist's life. He might not me be my favorite character from the pack, but I sure understand what made him what he is and I respect that!

  10. DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO SEE BUT NOT HAVE SEEN CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD, FOR THERE WILL BE BIG SPOILERS. Credence being Albus Dumbledore's brother is the single most ridiculous, illogical thing I have ever heard. The movie was already mehh by itself, but that "plot twist"? It's another Cursed Child again. According to the Harry Potter wiki, who got its source from Ezra Miller, the actor of Credence Barebone is 18 in the first Fantastic Beast Film, and so Credence is probably born in 1907-1908. Albus Dumbledore, on the other hand, was born in 1881. His mother, Kendra Dumbledore, died soon after Albus graduated from Hogwarts, so about 17-18 years old. That would place the year around 1899. 1899, 1908. It's entirely impossible for Credence to be Albus Dumbledore's younger brother. His father? Well, he was locked up in Azkaban around 1890. I doubt he would have a child in Azkaban, and if he does had one...well, even the strongest wizards die in the presence of dementors. But if thats truly is the case, I'm out. At best, Credence is a dumbledore relative, a cousin perhaps. Or maybe grindelwald just lied to him. Though the phoenix family legend thing just leans towards Credence being a dumbledore.

  11. Hello guys! I'm leaving the Alleyverse now, (maybe not necessarily the Shard) So the reason I'm leaving is because Alleyverse RP just isn't fun anymore, I don't know exactly when this happened, but it just straight up became stressful because I'm a weird guy. Like being excited when I woke up and then literally actually shaking as I check the responses because I'm both nervous and excited at what might've happened, and that was extremely draining. Sometimes I was unable to find the motivation to do anything else. Sometimes too when I find out that some character died, I'd get real stressed out because, like I said before, I'm weird. I took a short break by just posting when needed, and then I came back just a few days ago because I felt like I wanted to come back, when I did, it felt both exciting and nerve wracking again, and I just fell into a pit of exhaustion. But, to be clear I don't regret the experiences I had here, they were genuinely fun to have and I met one of my closest friends because of this, so for that I'm very thankful! So now, here are my characters that are up for adoption! Check also their actual character sheets in the character thread for more info. (uhh, first come, first serve though, I guess?) once you decide to take a character, just @Cyanic me! I'll be PMing the adopters with certain non-known facts and backstories for the characters that they chose, but please feel free to tweak and change these characters to your liking! I would say to not kill them/let them die, but I can't really police that, so do whatever you want c: Deras (my first character, I created him because no one's made a Lifeless character yet. Later on, I planned to make him a sort of slayer, like an expy of Doom Slayer): Araha (I originally intended for this character to be adopted by my friend but she told me to give her a standard adoption. Araha is one of my most well developed characters, so please play her as well as you can!) adopted by @Badadah: Kera (my newest character, and she just completed a certain arc with @xinoehp512 it's not too long, and you should check out the Einladung Hospital thread, but by far she's my character with the least amount of secrets, btw @xinoehp512 if you see this, you don't need to PM me what I asked about anymore XD you can PM the adopter if they ask for it though): And that's all of em! I really wanna thank you guys once again for the fun times and experiences! Good bye, and have a great day! o7

  17. This took place in the epic trilogy called "The Hunger Names," which was a spinoff of the Hunger Games, but this name makes sense because the breadmunks wanted equal names. So there.

  19. So I've already connected with Argent on this, but just for general interest: yes, I did get audio of the signing line. I didn't get the general Q&A, but there really weren't many questions of Cosmere import in that anyway—mostly writing questions and a few basic Cosmere ones (can you tell us a random Ideal/are there dragons in the Cosmere).

  23. I don't know that that one is completely shot down. The human pilot has to be cytonic for it to work, and doomslug could hypothetically be for when/if a pilot is not cytonic. That being said, I don't think it's very likely.

  24. I can confirm that that is a wicked powerful character. I can still think of ways that solace could easily kill it, and Mac too, but it would be mountains ahead of the other characters in power level. I do agree with archer that the motivation may be misplaced. Mraize did design solace to be able to be beaten, he’s designed to be a villain that the hero’s have to team up with to beat. Hellbent has a whole lot of backstory showing how he got to this point. Mac is really powerful because of the amount of augmentations that he can give himself through hemalurgy, and his association with the DA, both of which have been well established. In addition, none of these people abuse their characters power. Mac doesn’t go on killing sprees and control other people’s characters, even though he probably could. Hellbent the same, when he RP’s fights and interactions he doesn’t instantly wreck everyone, even though he could, and mraize is supposed to be strong enough to have a team take him down.

Also, there's a guy in my band who has mostly black hair... with streaks of blond. And he wears glasses. I swear, if Renarin played bass clarinet, I would freak out every time I saw this guy. Also, I'm taking a class where we get to cast rings, and mine's gonna have the Willshaper glyph on it.

The first one I had was that old black and white one (like @Sorana) and I mostly played Pokemon Gen1 (a lot) especcially on our skiing holiday since I had other people to trade and fight with then =). But I also played the newer games and really loved Golden Sun. Since my fiance has a lot of nintendo consoles (from an old atari, over n64 to Wii, we have al lot of them at home; and a lot of old games) I have played many games since we have been together. like The Legend of Zelda (from the original over ocarina of Time to Skyward Sword (sadly we don't own a switch (yet) so no BotW) or Castlevania.

  34. Well, another possibility is Dalinar. He is technically bonded to the largest piece of Honor and Odium seemed to recognize him when he opened the perpendicularly. And given the amount of power invested by Honor and Cultivation in Roshar, I find it likely that this might be the Shard he is talking about.

  39. So, after finishing the book, one pertinent question sticks in my mind. Why didn't the Acclivity Rings have their own ejection systems? We know that the Rings are the limiting factor on the Defiant's ability to field forces, as they have large numbers of fighters apparently grounded do to lack of parts, and manpower can't be the issue as they haven't actually implemented conscription. So preserving the rings is paramount, but having pilots die trying to regain control of failing ships is a bad way of doing it, as they usually fail, which seems to mean the ring is usually lost. Egro, a system which mechanically preserves some fraction of the Rings is highly describable, but absent. We know it's possible to eject from a fighter, when they bother to do it, and a human is a lot squishier than a disc of rocks, so it's not as if it can't be done. Obviously, if the ring gets shot out from under you, there's nothing to be done, but this is intended to solve for the various other cases where literally any other system has failed catastrophically. The most basic form of such an arrangement would be as follows. The Acclivity Ring is mounted on a slab on the ventral side of the Fighter, in its customary location. This slab is flush with with hull, but connected to the rest of the ship by a series of heavy fixtures rigged with pyrotechnic fasteners. The power and control buses for the Acclivity Rings are routed along these, with their own pyrotechnic severing devices. Pyrotechnic fasteners are a proven and reliable technology in the modern era, and can be build to handle the massive structural loading the fixings holding the various stages of a chemical rocket together, so there shouldn't be an issue there. This might require the ship to be designed, or re-designed, around the system, but the Rings are important enough for that to be worthwhile. This slab mounts the hinges that hold the ring, and the servomotors (presumably) used to position it. The purpose of the slab is to provide a easy unit that can be ejected wholesale with the ring on it, and to provide a housing for the recovery equipment. Unless the ring is several times denser than the hull material, the geometry of the arrangement means that the center of gravity will be far from the ring and inside the slab. This is desirable, as it means the whole unit will orient to either be sideways or to with the ring up in free-fall. This can be manipulated by weighting, and either works. The function is as follows. The pilot ejects, and the Ring Ejection System triggers automatically. The explosive bolts blow, and the Ring/slab unit is blown off the falling fighter. After a few seconds to re-orient, solid-rocket boosters fire to blow the ring clear of the combat zone. This step is optional, but it makes it harder for the xeno scum to chase down the Ring, which they may or may not be inclined to do. Once the SRBs cut out, the slab launches a series of streamers to increase drag and begin slowing down the slab as it falls. This cancels the lateral velocity of the SRBs and slows the fall. At this point, the Ring descends, possibly deploying a drogue shoot at some point. It may or may not also deploy a regular parachute - all this depends on the velocity profile, which depends on a lot of other factors. Landing, is facilitated by inflatable impact cushion, of the sort presently used to land larger payloads on Mars. This gives a lot more flexibility in terms of acceptable surface velocity, and increases the odds of a safe landing for the Acclivity Ring. After a delay to allow the Krell to retreat, a radio beacon activates for recovery. Thoughts? Discussion on other aspects of the technology of the setting?

  44. Been meaning to ask this for a while - from a cursory search I have not found WoBs on this and did not see any relevant topics when occaisonally perusing the forums, so the question is thus: Based on the drawings of the various planetary systems provided in AU (see the art), is there any correlation between a Shard being Shattered within the system and presence of asteroid belts? We have 6 systems: in both the Taldain and the Scadrian systems, the Shards are whole (as far as we know) and they lack asteroid belts; in the Selish and Roshar systems, we have Shards being Shattered in-system and we have asteroid belts. In the Threnodite systm, Ambition was mortally wounded, but killed/died elsewhere - and there are no asteroid belts. Finally, the odd-ball - the Drominad System - asteroid belt present... we also know that the perpendicularity there is extremely dangerous, and that, likely, unplesant events unfolded there - could it be that one of the Shards got Shattered there? (Or Adolnasium, unlikely as that is?) (There were also comet belts in the Scadrian and Selish systems - could it be they indicate Shards changing Vessels? Would be neat to get a hint about the fate of Sel that way; however, I feel we have too little info and datapoints to speculate ont this particular point.)

  45. Hello I have been lurking around for some time now and this topic finally made me write something. There were actually a quite a few clues that Melhi is Sophie in the text of the novella: 1 In Sophie’s backstory she was a rebel anarchist who snuck to a high science state to get weapons, - Melphie uses giant robots. 2 The way she addressed Kai was Emperor man and kiddo, Melphie in the flashback called him “Fantasy man”, and later refers to him as a child. 3 Sophie’s main motivation was rebellion against Vode and their manipulation, what enraged Melphie in their first meeting was being called puppet of the vode. Last words we hear from Melphie are: “. . . part of me that rebels against . . . will go forward . . . not . . . their puppet . . .” This fits perfectly with Sophie’s personality as we knew it. 4 Then there is their first meeting in the flashback where Melphie talked through his robot emissary he says in that scene that : “I am Liveborn like you,” Melhi said, looking me up and down. “This is merely one of the forms I use.” And in the last chapter Kai’s aide said: That woman was just like the emissary we met in the Border State—a fabrication controlled from afar, only this time created to be indistinguishable from a human being.” After this Vode calling Melphie a she was just a final confirmation.
