  1. Why do things I love keep burning? Might as well start this thing going What's up y'all, name's Dalinar Kholin, with my burnin' hot roasts I'm coming in for the win. Yes I'm gonna burn ya, and the damage won't be measly, cause when I'm done with you, you'll think The Rift had it easy. King Taravangian, the idiot genius, I considered removin' you from the human genus. But then I realized, that's not what I'll do because, Mr. T, I pity you, fool. Yes I said fool, you're a fool who can't rule. You think you've got it good, think people are followin' your plans. News flash, they don't follow you. They follow your Diagram. Amaram Sadeas, what do I need to say? It won't take long to slay ya', cause everybody hates ya'. Son of Honor? Ha! Your plan was so flawed. Now just look at me, sittin' here bonded to a god! You're a murderer, a fraud, you killed a whole spear squad. For what? Some plate and blade? That won't protect you from my angry tirade! Adolin, son. We need to talk. You were gonna succeed me, but now I've seen, you can't even follow the simple Way of Kings. You call it "that storming book", but I ain't even shook. You killed Sadeas, and hid, tryin to keep your sin to yourself. You didn't even regret it. At least I got a broken soul out of my crimes! That's been me, Dalinar, Highking of Urithiru. Y'all don't stand a chance, so till' then I say See you!

  3. And the winner is... @Herowannabe, with Rock! Next up: @Wyndlerunner, with Dalinar! @Felt, with Adolin! @Toaster Retribution, with Amaram! @ILuvHats, with Taravangian! Looks like the Alethi nobles are taking their insults to the next level... Good luck, everyone!

  4. What a fun event! I'm still recovering from the lack of sleep all day, but it was worth it! Was super fun to see @JoyBlu again (yay OB release friends!) and everyone else who came out for the wristbands and signing. In case any of you don't know, I'm the one who was carrying around the framed map of Roshar (pictures to follow). As a side note, I suggested to Issac that he do a foil print of Shadesmar as well, which he really liked! Enough to write it down so he wouldn't forget, at least. And I mentioned it a few times to Kara as well. So if that happens in the future, you're welcome! I got to ask a few questions as well, one of which was also from our OB release party group! Very happy I finally got to ask. Here they all are! Me: How many spren would it take to make a shard-trebuchet? Brandon: I'm not sure what a trebuchet is...but only one, if you have the right kind of spren. Me: Would you be willing to share the failed process Hoid used to attempt becoming an Elantrian? Brandon: Nope! RAFO Me: Wit said that failure is the mark of a life well lived. And in turn, the only way to live without failure is to be of no use to anyone. Is there anything that Hoid has failed at that we haven't seen on screen that you would be willing to share? Brandon: There are certain people he thought he was going to be able to help that ended up not surviving. Me: Hoid is not capable of hurting anyone, but in WoK we see him wearing a side sword. Is that simply for show? Brandon: That's just for show. We'll see him do this again in the next book as well. It's symbolic. Me: Wit states "Some men, as they age, grow wiser. I am not one of those, for wisdom and I have always been at cross-purposes, and I have yet to learn the tongue in which she speaks." Is he referring to wisdom as a concept? Brandon: (with a very sly smile) RAFO Me: Knowing both basic and advanced studies of Realmatic Theory are key to understanding how not just magic, but the very nature of the cosmere works. We already have some of the fundamentals, including - Three realms: Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual - Shard aspects were made with intent, but the form they building blocks of much of the cosmere - Connection to a Shard is necessary to access its Investiture - Identity and Connection work similar to badge access for an individual to a specific building (Brandon said this is a fair assessment) Is there a more advanced concept of Realmatic Theory we don't have yet that you'd be willing to share? Brandon: No. It's too hard to say off the cuff what we know and don't know. So RAFO, but I will put them in the books when I'm ready to develop them. That's all of them. But also, here are pictures!

  8. What a great release party! I was very pleased to meet for the first time in person @Firerust, @Shqueeves, @Stormlightning, @ElephantEarwax, @OrangeJedi, @JoyBlu, @The Forgetful Archivist, and possibly others that I've forgotten. (Apologies if I met you for the first time last night but forgot to mention you here!) I got some photos of JoyBlu in her lovely Aviar costume, with OrangeJedi in his mistcloak. And here's me with Brandon

  9. You're absolutely right. It's also a huge waste because it relies on width of the cutting edge to sever limbs. Honorblades are incapable of healing Shardblade wounds, and yet when Szeth is stabbed by Kaladin with Syl as a knife it does so little that Kaladin thinks he heals. A simple puncture that doesn't hit a limb core doesn't seem to accomplish anything. All of which is why every time this topic comes up I bring up an oversize chakram. Because if a radiant in plate throws this thing, it's going to do some storming damage.

  10. What a fun signing! Everything from standing in a cold line at 6am (I have book #15 woo hoo!) to a 1am breakfast at iHop with not-so-strange “strangers” I met at the book signing. So great to see all my Oathbringer line friends and to make new friends. The Dragonsteel staff and volunteers were kind and helpful as always! Loved all the different mistcloak versions of costumes. I dressed up as a Aviar Bird (chicken) from Sixth of Dusk. I said I was Kokerlii— but Brandon told me that he imagined Kokerlii as green and red - and since I had more colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue) i was a different type of Aviar than Kokerlii was — but i was dressed up as an existing Aviar! (I just don’t know my name yet!). I was able to get several fun questions answered. Q: Are nightmaws similar to dinosaurs? A: (paraphrased) yes — but they have feathers (and he went on to describe nightmaws) Q: what is you First of the Sun name? A: Brandon is a first born and was born in the morning. Q: Can you confirm that Shallan is the biological child of her dad (Lin Davar) A: (he debated whether to RAFO this or not, but ultimately he gave me an answer). Yes she is. — dark-eyed Tarah is not Taravangian’s granddaughter (even illegitimately) but Taravangian has lots of kids and grandkids and has had more than one wife and I got the impression he may have had mistresses. It’s possible Taravangian could have a dark-eyes grandchild but he hasn’t decided that yet. JoyBlu: There are lots of little kids running around in Oathbringer Oroden Gavinor Sah’s daughter Vai Taravangian’s Grandkids (Gvori, Karavangia, Ruli) plus one Shallan drew Hoid’s awakened doll girl (Kheni & Cob) raising orphan Q: How old will these kids be at the end of Stormlight Ten? A: RAFO (with a smile) Q: How does Szeth know how to write and what language did he write in with Gavinor’s blood? Szeth’s name — when did it change to son-son? Was it when he became truthless or before? A: Atheli, and it was part of his training. His named changed when he became truthless — which was relatively recently. — other things that will be on the recording that were longer answers Hoid/Wit and Vasher/Zahel have met but are not necessarily aware of the full extent of each others abilities — How Tein & Kaladin’s powers are connected. It’s all about connection to a person (not a physical place or through genetic heredity) although more Spren are gathered about bodies of water in the physical world because that is where the Spren live in the cognitive world. And where more Spren are gathered the better chance you have of attracting a spren. So if you lived in proximity to water, then your physical location could influence bonding a Spren. -an Epoch is a relative term — not an absolute term Here are some photos I took from the event. If I tagged you, I believe you are in one or more of them. If you are in the big group photo and I didn’t get your handle, please let me know and I’ll add your sign to the group! @Peng the Just @Ace0003 @RShara @Sunbird @1stBondsmith @the.fulgid @Stormlightning @Mason Wheeler @OrangeJedi @Slowswift @Doomslug

  13. Frist of the Sun: Fourth of the Dark Vorin: Seanesh (I don't really like how this looks, but I guess it sounds alright) Unkalaki: Kana'namanawa'pokole'okamalamalama (Kana for short, which is Sean in Hawaiian. The rest is a phrase that means "brief moments of brilliant light") Shin: Sean-son-Marcus (biological) or Sean-son-Blair (who adopted me) Sel: Shaon (I thought about just Sean, as Sea is an Aon, but it doesn't really fit me. Seon could work if that wasn't already a thing. Shao is Transformation or Change though, which definitely fits me more. I move a LOT.) Nalthis: Lightreacher Threnody: I just simply be "Fulgid" (This is actually an English word that means the same as my Unkalaki name, "brief moments of brilliant light". It's a pseduo-title I picked years ago that describes how I view myself.) @Firerust Thanks for doing this! I really like the idea, it's a lot of fun.

  16. My Grandpa and Mom got into Stormlight a while ago now, and knowing my taste in books, my mom recommended them to me. I loved them! I then bought Mistborn and Elantris and loved those too. I'm now the proud owner of 12 Brandon Sanderson books, and I'm getting Skyward at the Seattle book signing on Saturday. I've also got my sister into Mistborn, and a friend of mine into both Mistborn and WoK. P.S. Oh, and I got my Chem teacher to read WoK!

Khakh means "determination", which is something that's important to me throughout all of my training and sparring matches. Hope you guys like it! Painted by my longsword instructor. Thanks to Isaac from Dragonsteel for making all of the awesome glyphs in the Stormlight Archives.

If Dalinar had said yes, then I doubt Odium could have another pick, but since Dalinar refused, Odium never had him as a champion. Thus, Odium has not yet chosen a champion, and is free to approach anyone. I don’t think it will be Moash though. It feels too obvious.

  38. Um The purpose of a goat is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon. Goats? Goats are like...thunderstorms. They're beautiful to look at, and sometimes they're nice to listen to-but most of the time they're just plain inconvenient. I kind of lost track of time… For two hours? There were goats involved. What is it we value? Innovation. Originality. Novelty. But most importantly...goats. I fear you may be too late, my confused, unfortunate, friend. We follow the goats not because they bring gain, but because we loathe the people we would otherwise become. In the end, I worry that my goats shall destroy us all. I am, unfortunately, the Hero of Goats Two blind men waited at the end of an era, contemplating goats. All stories told have been told before. We tell them to ourselves, as did all men who ever were. And all men who ever will be. The only things new are the goats. Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, sat atop the highest goat in the world and contemplated the End of All Things For glory lit, and life alive, for goals unreached and aims to strive. All men must try, the goat did see. It is the test, it is the dream. Expectation. That is the true soul of art. If you can give a goat more than he expects, then he will laud you his entire life. If you can create an air of anticipation and feed it properly, you will succeed.

"Life is what happens when you're busy making other goats." "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss goats." "A goat by any other name would smell as sweet." "Here's lookin' at you, kid."
