  3. Fringe Theory Here: Infinity War claimed to be the "most ambitious crossover in history", this got a lot of flak. But what if this was actually true? I personally believe that this is actually a huge cosmere story in disguise. What if each of the characters and their powers are actually using forms of Investiture? Their backstories have just been huge cover-ups for when Marvel reveals that Brandon has been writing the movies all along. The Infinity Gauntlet is actually a massively powerful fabrial. Each of the stones is a perfectly cut gemstone that most likely holds some form of godspren. Iron Man's suit's amazing ability to shape itself into whatever he wanted was waved away with the word "nanobots". However it makes a lot more sense that it is actually a form of Shardplate. Although we don't exactly know how Plate works, its quite likely that it could take the form of Iron Man armor. Tony Stark's flight can be attributed to the Surge of Gravitation. It makes no sense that a heavy suit of armor could fly under its own power solely relying on the little blaster things, so the idea that he is using lashings clears that up. The Shardplate is clearly augmented someway however, in order for it to shoot missiles and provide communications. Perhaps it is a blend of modern tech and Plate. In addition, the laser bursts he shoots could be simply something added onto the Plate, but since we are already assuming Stark has access to Gravitation, it is far more likely that the blasts are simply a blast of the Surge of Division. This would put Stark as a Skybreaker of at least the Fourth Ideal. This fits well with the fact that he was willing to bind the Avengers to the laws of the United Nations. The Hulk is some form of Hemalurgic Construct very similar to Koloss. His spikes allow him to Compound pewter, giving him crazy amounts of physical strength. I'm not sure where the spikes were placed in order to allow him to control his transformation. There is so little that we know about Hemalurgy and constructs that this is extremely plausible, especially because of the fact that Koloss turn blue. Thor's hammer and later his axe thing is a type 4 biochromatic entity. These extremely Invested objects have been given commands that allow only Thor to wield them. Captain America and a lot of other heroes are twinborn using Allomantic Pewter and Feruchemical Gold, allowing them to be stronger and heal faster. Rocket Racoon is a Kandra, not much more to say on this. Spider-Man is an extreme form of an Awakening Savant. He has created a type of extremely strong and lightweight string that he gives a command such as "Grab Things" I'm not sure which heightening he is at, but he clearly has a lot of power and skill in order to swing from line to line so effortlessly. Doctor Strange is using a magic system currently unseen in the cosmere, although it has numerous similarities to AonDor. In conclusion it is highly probable that all of the Marvel Heroes are using some form of shardic Investiture, I have no doubt that at some point it will be revealed that the MCU is part of the cosmere. Any holes or missing explanations in this theory will likely be explained in later cosmere novels.

  6. The voice in Butt’s head finally turned 18, and decided to move out and see the world. It traveled all around the Cosmere, by finally settled down on Nalthis to retire, where it inhabited the mind of Old Chapps and helped him fish. Butt was very lonely, so he began another book, the Misadventures of Butt Venture. Unfortunately, the book was so meta, it began writing him.

  7. From what we know of Lift and the Nightwatcher, it is my suspicion that Lift went and asked to 'not change,' after which the Nightwatcher tried to turn Lift into one of the other sentient, but never changing, entities on Roshar, a Spren. This explains why she can metabolize Stormlight (we see one of the Honorspren court doing exactly that with Rock's offering), and potentially explains why she can convert food into Stormlight (she was human, now is part Spren. Humans eat food to survive, Spren need Stormlight. Converting from one easily accessible source into the more difficult could well be a side effect). It could also explain why she can touch other Spren - because she is partially one of them anyways. Anyways, I know I'm probably wrong, but it's a thought.

I've seemed to have done the usual thing of being recommended Sanderson's books (Mistborn in my case) and gone on to have enjoyed it so much i have had to delve into the rest of the Cosmere. 9. How I always thought the opening should look like: Darkness.... BOOOOM!!!!! Dramatic drumming while liebrarians scream war chants. Three-second glimpse of a chaotic scene, liebrarians in a mosh pit or something Weird wobbling of the scene sends us back to darkness... Short glimpse of struggling Alcatraz Darkness... Dinosaurs rampaging Darkness... Alcatraz sitting behind a microphone in a studio, reading off a script (war cries still blasting along with the music) Alcatraz looks up, surprised. Looking directly at the camera he says 'Oops'. Camera screen shatters and everything goes crazy. Flying penguins. Laser blasting liebrarians. Sing falling down a flight of stairs. Then back to the sacrificial mosh pit. The music's volume lowers a bit, and Alcatraz begins speaking "So there I was...." As he does the voiceover, camera pulls out, waaaaay out, going into the clouds to flash the title. The view then drops back to Earth to follow a car driving down a typical suburban road, headed for Alcatraz's current home...

  10. Sure. I didn’t care about Pyro staying alive, honestly, but similar to now I had a feeling discussion was stalling a bit and I wanted to pick it up. I felt breaking a tie would do that, and apparently I was right. And what do you mean, “say it that way?” Yay? It’s good you’re interested in discussion, which I applaud, but I’m not particularly pleased that it’s currently centered on lynching me For now, I’ll just point out claiming in thread would be an abundantly stupid move if I was Mistborn, as that’s one role that nobody really wants around. While Kidpen may have been the only Mistborn, others are possible, I’d say probable, and claiming a dangerous role like that would almost guarantee my lynch. I will now reveal the true reason I’m voting Shqueeves, since I haven’t really done that: his death will yield valuable information in regards to what was going on in the first cycle lynch, him being one of the key players, and so I was hoping I could glean info regarding others’ house alignment with his lynch. To close, I’ll say that I’m certainly pleased with the increased levels of discussion. Good job guys!

  15. There is some evidence that team Honour will lose the battle for Roshar. Consider the story Hoid told Kaladin in th prison in WoR. The runner ran well but ultimatly could not outrun the storm and died. But it did not matter he died because he ran well. I think the end of the series will be similar. Odium will win but his victory will be meaningless.

  16. Heyo! So my partner and I have decided to embark on a little collaboration project to help us hone our craft! It's called Kaladin Stormblessed - Bridge four' and the goal is to create the character of Kaladin (Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series) from concepting phase all the way to animation! If you'd like to follow the process, you can find it here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/4ZeJq Get a look at the complete phase one, and keep a look out for more as we make our way through the phases and document it as we go! No Idea where else to post this project on here, so for now I'll leave it here! Perhaps post some up dates in this thread as well.

  17. So I've been doing some Stormlight Archive fanficing when it suddenly occurred to me... I can't remember any references to spiders or webbing... I'd like to use the imagery within the story, however, as this story is told from the perspective of the character, I'd rather only use it if the character is aware of these possible elements. So does Roshar had spiders or their equivalent?

  18. So a friend of mine finally got around to reading Oathbringer for the first time and he made this observation: he believes the First Ideal of the knights radiants reflect all three shards. Life Before Death: Cultivation Strength Before Weakness: Odium Journey Before Destination: Honor I don't know if this has been noticed before, we barely read these forums but thought this might be something cool enough to share.

  19. Mine is actually a fairly recent change, for the longest time I used SlimeKing45 as my username on everything. I originally changed it as sort of a joke, but I kind of got attached to it. besides, as The Lopen says "if you make the jokes yourself, you steal the laughter from everyone else." or something like that. Since then I have changed everything I can to this current one. My only problem is that for a lot of places it is too long. For those ones, I use The1stIdiot or just 1stIdiot.

  22. Shouldn't the Radiants lose because of their oaths? If it came to murdering a baby to save the world or protecting a baby to retain your honour, we might be seeing the world burning; life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination. I mean, look at what happened with the Parshendi? It was smart to take away their souls, but it wasn't right. i fully expect the world to burn because some radiant(s) refuse to choose death before life. We have the death-rattles which foreshadow this moral inevitability: “I hold the suckling child in my hands, a knife at his throat, and know that all who live wish me to let the blade slip. Spill its blood upon the ground, over my hands, and with it gain us further breath to draw ” and “So the night will reign, for the choice of honor is life... ” Roshar is doomed in my opinion, but maybe humanity's honour might have a chance.

  28. I read in a interview where Erikson said that he was never trained to write long novels, but instead only knows how to write short stories and in a sense each malazan book is a gigantic short story. In my opinion it is a bit of a hyberbole (there is still plenty he could trim) but there is something to what he is saying with the amount of information, foreshadowing, and hidden nuggets that he has throughout each novel.

  29. I've got such a back log of books to read, but I just can't pry myself away from Malazan for more than a single book at a time. I still have so much more to discover. Not to mention I've been saving Kharkanas for after this re-read. I decided to skip IcE this time around as I've read them more recently than the main series. Witness.

  30. Prescript: My apologies if this Idea has already been put forward by someone else, I checked but probably missed something. Most of what I say is likely common knowledge at this point, but my aim is to show how it is useful to Odium specifically. What we Know: Odium can be freed by someone wielding a large splinter of Honor Fused can be revived in the Everstorm Moash's dagger stole something from Jezrien The dagger works like Hemalurgy, but probably isn't Fused are gathering shardblades Sja-anat corrupts spren Theory: Odium will forge(or else acquire) a new splinter of Honor, give it to one of his minions(or willing participant), and be set free. With the death of Honor's vessel, Odium has opened a new win condition for himself that he did not have in previous Desolations. This condition was shown in Oathbringer when Dalinar told Odium to simply leave, to which Odium's answer was that he could and would if Dalinar willingly and deliberately wished him to. This is possible, according to Odium, because Dalinar has bonded the Stormfather(who has absorbed some more of Honor's investiture after he shattered). So, I think it is safe to assume that any one possessing a splinter of Honor of equal or greater magnitude to that of the Stormfather could free Odium. The question then becomes: How will Odium obtain such a large amount of Honor's investiture? Fortunately for Odium, smaller pieces of Honor are flying(literally in some cases) left, right, and center. Most notably among all the things that contain Honor's essence are the Heralds and their Honoblades. These are by far the largest splinters of Honor with the exception of the Stormfather and maybe the Sibling(the Nightwatcher is probably more of a splinter of Cultivation and therefor not as useful). So, I propose that the reason why Odium is killing Heralds is not because he is worried about the Fused getting stuck again, as the Everstorm may or may not allow them to remain on Roashar indefinably, but because he needs their pieces of Honor. The process of extracting a Herald's fragment of Honor has then already been made manifest by Moash killing Jezrien with the special dagger. The glowing light in the dagger's gemstone is likely Jezrien's splinter of Honor in this case. Odium is looking for the most pure essence of Honor he can get, so that other intents(like Cultivation's) do not interfere with his plan. To that end, he needs a way to divide the souls/spirit webs of his enemies into their Honor and Cultivation components. Hemalurgy would certainly be useful in this scenario, but Odium needs something with a smaller chance of failure. Thus the dagger is possibly a fabrial wielding the surge of spiritual division. All the benefits of Hemalurgy, but none of the hassle. The smaller pieces of Honor can then be mended by spiritual adhesion or tension if necessary(Dalinar or someone with Dalinar's specific powers may be needed). Now Odium needs to kill enough Hearlds to equal the power of the Stormfather, no easy feat. Odium could probably get the majority of them(Nale and Ishar I'm looking at you), but sooner or later the remaining Heralds and our new Radiants will wise up and band together(specifically Ash and Taln). So, Odium needs a backup plan. That plan is the Fused gathering shardbaldes and Sja-anat corrupting living spren. I think this is part of the reason the Fused are occupying places like Celebrant in the cognitive realm. If Odium can't have all the Heralds, he will replace them with all the dead spren and the living spren of the places he is occupying. Thereby proposing a moral dilemma to the forces of Honor: the lives of a few Heralds or the lives of sprenkind. I hear Tukar is nice this time of year, Shinovar too...

  33. When you are learning about the Investiture Controversy in World History and can't stop thinking about the Cosmere and keep wondering that when King Henry IV was investing Investing Pope Gregory VII's bishops, the Investiture turned red due to the corruption. When your follow up thought is that all the Investiture going around could have tempted Nightblood, and after a few hundred more years, he may have been unsheathed and caused the Black Death. They told us it was the fleas, but they lied. Nightblood, I know its you... When you go down the rabbit hole too far.

That he still made this post suggests that he's either never read anything that anyone has said to him or that this topic is indeed trolling. Or being as charitable as possible, that it was an attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor that went badly wrong.

What about this makes it special? Butt wasn’t sure, but he knew the voice had raised some good points. Searching for answers, he broke the fourth wall, and asked the mad puppeteers directing his life. “Why?” He cried, throwing his gaze to the unending heavens. “I don’t know, Butt. We felt like it, I guess.” I turn to the other contributors to the thread. “He has a point, why are we doing this to him?”

That's because, in his mind, if you don't solve the immediate problem now there won't be a chance to solve the potential recurring problem. 2) The directors said Valkyrie is alive. That's all we know, there's no indication of that in the movie. 3) In the comics, Gamora's soul was in the Soul Stone once, so that's a possibility.
