  1. Big WoB incoming! Had my fiancée ask in Fort Collins if Silverlight exists solely in the Cognitive Realm... ...and the answer is YES!

  2. Okay, full compilation of the WoBs I got at this event. Two are from me during a video chat, four are questions Lauren recorded and sent to me, and the Bavadin/Ambition RAFOs are paraphrased from my friends. Recorded/verbatim Q: Is Nalan using his original Honorblade, or did he bond a spren? A: He's using his original Honorblade. But there's an asterisk here that will come up in Oathbringer. Q: Does Silverlight exist solely in the Cognitive Realm? A: Yes. Q: Were the planets in the Threnodite System named like that in response to Ambition's demise? A: It is not a coincidence that so many of the planets have to do with songs of mourning or passing, in that system. So, you are on to something. (Note: This was kinda, sorta not helpful, since my orginal Threnody was a Shard theory was built on the WoB I got on the Calamity tour re: Threnody being named in memorial of someone.) Q: What does the Red Rip look like in the Cognitive Realm? A: So this is a RAFO, in part because I haven't revealed if there are any planets out there. (Note: Brandon totally knew where I was trying to go with this one, and he doesn't want to let us know if Yolen is part of the constellation.) Q: If a Shard were to divest itself from a planet, would the perpendicularity there disappear? A: Normally the shardpool would cease to exist, but there are circumstances that could prevent the shardpool from disappearing. Paraphrased Q: Was Bavadin nonhuman? A: RAFO. There is at least one Shard who wasn't human, but I'm not ready to reveal who was or wasn't just yet. Q: What was the name of Ambition's Vessel? A: RAFO And another from my video chat with Brandon... EDGEDANCER SPOILERS:

  3. Paraphrased from memory. In general Q&A: can Investiture be used to go faster than the speed of light? Yes, in many different ways, some much easier than others. My questions During the events of Stormlight Archive, is Yolen still populated? Yes... yes, I would say so since a letter is written to somebody on Yolen. Was Leras bonded to a being in the Cognitive Realm? You mean like a Nahel bond? Yes, or a similar mechanism. Well, you have to remember that Shards interact with the realms in a different way, so... Well, I more mean before Leras became a Vessel. Anything before then is RAFO. (and I got a card) You've mentioned before that Hoid ends up where he needs to be. Yes, and usually without knowing why. Is Chromium involved in that? Yes. Well, he's not necessarily using Chromium, but the underlying mechanic, yes.

  4. I've seen a few comments here and there but thought it would be a good idea to pull them together as a separate discussion topic. So, it's pretty clear that Ishar was blatantly lying to Nale about being able to stop the desolation by just going around slaughtering surgebinders left and right. And a few pages later: It's thus very heavily implied that he has betrayed the heralds, and may have been working for Odium for quite some time. After all, it was at his suggestion that they decided to break the Oathpact in the first place: My question is, why? Nale obviously has nearly unshakable trust in Ishar, despite massive amounts of evidence contradicting everything he said. We also know that Ishar was instrumental in the original creation of the Knights Radiant: Finally, I think it's very plausible, if not likely, that this part of the Diagram is referring to Ishar as well: I'm guessing that his betrayal happened sometime after the creation of the KR, possibly after the Recreance? But I have no idea what his reason, and what the implications for Dalinar and the Bondsmiths, could be. I encourage and welcome any and all rampant speculation on these topics.

  5. So I ended up making it to the signing (thank Harmony for the extra tickets!) Here are my questions: Q: Does Lift see Wyndle a different way than another Edgedancer would see their spren? A: Yes, but only slightly. She sees a longer vine, and slightly more, but it's not a big difference. Q: [EDGEDANCER SPOILERS]

  8. Hello all. I've been thinking about this theory for a long time, although a few recent comments have made me decide to actually write it up. To keep things short, I'm going to quote the Coppermind article for Adonalsium and link the relevant WoBs, that way I don't have to waste any time (mine or yours) regurgitating this information. While I can't say I know everything about Yolen, I have a general understanding that the world was dying to something known as fainlife. According to Yolish lore, it is some kind of malevolent disease(?) released from the corpses of Gods that began to gradually eat away at the world. My first thought here is, what is Adonalsium doing? Why hasn't he fought it off or tried to save Yolen? I can't answer this exactly. I can theorize the entity we know as Adonalsium did not originally hold that power, and that like the Shards, it shaped him into being unable to act in any meaningful way. We already see an example of 2 conflicting Intents forcing a Vessel from acting much (Harmony), so it's possible having 16 different Intents, possibly in 8 conflicting pairs, would have the same affect on Him. On that note, I find it interesting that Frost the Dragon has a non-intervention policy. I suspect that this might be a result of a particularly strict religion that worships Adonalsium directly, and adheres to the same concept that it is their duty to let destiny run its course. Either way, this isn't the main subject I want to discuss. Back to my theory, it seems clear that the 16 original Vessels of the Shards were a group of people from across Yolen who, each for their own reasons, wanted to stop the fainlife, and that the only way they could accomplish it was by killing Adonalsium and taking the power for himself. And thus I believe that the "force that determined which way it shattered" was each Vessel's Intent in committing deicide. To emphasize my theory, let's look at the names of the Shards we know, and connect those to reasons why someone might commit deicide or want to become a god. Autonomy: Based on what we know of Bavadin, she really doesn't like people who use magic. The Kertzians on Taldain have a deep hatred for Sand Masters, and she appears to be interfering with other worlds and encouraging their inhabitants to hate those with magic, if not the Shards themselves. For example, I believe that Bavadin has hijacked Idrian Austrism, hence their recent (300 years) opposition towards Awakening and Returned. I suspect she affected Shu-Dereth in a similar way, which is the driving factor in why wants to conquer the world, and perhaps why the Dakhor Monks want to slaughter the Elantrians as well. There's also the business with Trell on Scadrial. Ultimately I think Bavadin's reason for helping Shatter Adonalsium was because she wanted to have a Cosmere autonomous from Gods, which is somewhat ironic, since she's apparently going around pretending to be them. Cultivation: We really don't know much about this Shard or Vessel, sadly, but for now I can come up with an easy answer. I suspect the original holder of Cultivation was an older woman and a mother at that. She wanted to create a stable Cosmere with her kids could grow old and live happy and comfortably. Likely this desire applied to more than just her immediate family, but all others too. I also wouldn't be surprised if she was an avid gardener, or had an love for nature. Now that I think about it, I think Shinovar being where she resides / the location of her shardpool makes a lot of sense, as it's the only place on Roshar that resembles earth (Yolen). Devotion: This ones a bit tricky, since we don't know much about Aona, either, and one would think that with the religious connotations of the word, it's hard to imagine how someone is being devoted by killing their god. Perhaps I could see that, if a previous statement about Adonalsium not being the original holder of that power, that it's a tradition of sorts for the power to be passed on, and that Aona belongs to this culture. A bit of a stretch, but the most interesting theory I can come up with. It's possible she's just reaaally devoted to Yolen, or whatever country she comes from on it, to the point that she'd kill god to save it. Not as fun an answer, though. Dominion: Skai's reason is a bit easier to figure out, if Fjordell is anything to go off of! He just wanted to dominate the Cosmere! I suspect this isn't entirely the case. Maybe he just believed that mortals should be in control of their destiny, rather than the gods (or in this case, a god). Once again, this answers a bit generic and hard to say for certain since we don't know much about Skai. I personally got a feeling he's not that bad of a guy. Endowment: Considering how magic works on Nalthis, if this theory is correct than Edgli's main reason for committing deicide would be her wanting every person to have a little bit of god's power, rather than see it all be held by a single person. Honor: Tanavast's purpose for commiting deicide being "honorable" is another one of the tougher connections for me to establish. Considering all the business with oaths, maybe he was some kind of knight that strictly abided by some kind of code that compelled him to take part in destroying Adonalsium. Like Dominion, the Honor shard makes me question this theory, although either way, it's a fun thought experiment. Odium: Easy enough, considering what we know about Rayse. He hated Adonalsium. Likely for some completely tragic reason. Maybe he grew up in a very religious culture which was one of the first to be consumed by the fainlife, and ever since, he blamed Adonalsium in particular for failing to intervene. Considering that Hoid describes him as craft, I wouldn't even be surprised if he was the one who gathered this team from the start. Preservation: Another easy one... Leras wanted to preserve the world. He liked it the way things were and didn't want anything to change. The way I just worded it makes me think he might have been one of the younger vessels, which seems to contradict how wise he seems during his appearances, but on that matter, a lot of time has passed since the Shattering. Ruin: We know that Ati wasn't a bad guy, according to Hoid (I think? Or was it WoB?), and that Ruin had corrupted him over time. I know plenty of good people who have reasonable prejudices. It's possible that he came from similar origins as Rayse, in that his homeland was consumed by the fainlife, but instead of hating god for not saving them, he just wanted to destroy the source of his pain once and for all. Ambition: Here we are at the shard we've most recently learned the name of, and also know next-to-nothing about. With a name like Ambition, it isn't hard to guess what the Vessel's reason for committing deicide would be. I suspect he wanted power, perhaps for no other reason than to have it, and this may have been a large factor in why he was the first Shard that Odium attempted to Splinter. And now for the culminating statement! We know that Hoid was at the Shattering. We also know that Hoid is not a Shard(6). I believe the reason why Hoid didn't receive a Shard is because he didn't want Adonalsium to die. I believe that Hoid was present at the Shattering because he was trying to stop it. Furthermore, I believe it's possible that Hoid's ultimate Cosmeric goal has something to do with reforging the Shards into a new Adonalsium (likely not within himself, since I doubt he wants to be a God, or believes himself capable of being a good one). Now that all my thoughts on the matter are out there, I'll go ahead and point out that I don't really have much evidence to support this. However, I would really like to ask Brandon a question like "if every original Vessels was at the Shattering, except another person was there with them other than Leras, would the other people responsible for the Shattering receive the same exact Shards while Leras replacement would take Preservation, or would he get a different Shard entirely?" It would most certainly reveal an RAFO, but I do wonder what Brandon's reaction to such a question would be (a sly smile, a laugh, etc). The idea itself is pretty wild. But I would love it if people commented with any contextual evidence that might prove or disprove it, for discussion's sake. Also, feel free to come up with other motivations for killing Adonalsium that align with these Shard's Intents.

  9. Ok I just got back from my long drive. I didn't get audio of the questions, but I wrote down some notes right afterword. Me: Is ReLuur's spike made of Atium? Cut out some stuff, he started to answer thinking I said Lord Ruler, but I stopped him Brandon: hesitated a for a second RAFO. You get a card though. It's not that big of a spoiler, but the answer would bring up questions that are. Me: Are the Svrakiss cognitive shadows? Brandon: RAFO. But you expected that. Me: If you tapped blank Identity in an area, would you develop the area's accent? Note: Sanderson interpreted this question as blanking identity. Also, I don't think tapping blank identity is a thing, so it was not a great question. Brandon: It's part of what you need. You need to both blank your Identity and tap Connection to get the accent. Me: If Shai had a gold shadow, and she used one of her Essence Stamps, would her gold shadow change to reflect her new self? Brandon: Yes, because she is changing her soul so the gold shadow changes. @Rasarr I liked your question so I asked it here: Me: If you were on Roshar, and tapped Connection, would you be unable to use Scadrial magic? Brandon: No, but that's a good question. You would not be able to use Selish magic though, because that is dependent on location. Me: Did Demoux achieve immortality by manipulating his Connection age? Brandon: Demoux uses the same method as most of the Seventeenth Shard. That method slows aging by a lot, but doesn't stop it completely.

  11. Listen to Kaymyth, Quiver. She speaks the truth. And, contrary to the popular view, change doesn't happen all at once because a Katniss Everdeen or a Harry Potter suddenly show up on the scene and get the rest of the world's heroes to stop twiddling their thumbs and get to work. There are all kinds of small motions toward change leading up to the Big Moments that we don't see. A changed mind here, a bill passed there. Every movement toward change counts. The Harrys and the Katnisses might get all the media attention, but if it weren't for the no-names in the Ministry or the Districts, they'd be nothing more than a footnote in a history book. You're not insignificant. Individuals make all the difference in the world.

  12. Night 3: Blood and Steel His guilt was assured, they felt, when he pulled a knife on them. Of course, most people would do something like that when accused of being a murderer in these circumstances. But why did he have a weapon in the first place? In a word, it was shifty. Or at least, he seemed shifty right now, regardless of his actual personality. But in an environment such as this, where paranoia ran rampant over more reasonable emotions, it was enough for people to make their minds up. And having a weapon pulled on you will tend to colour your judgement. Action was needed. That much everyone was starting to agree on, and they were starting to look for suspicious behaviour. And who was more suspicious right now than the guy with a knife? They accused him, and he denied it. But of course he would deny it, anyone would deny it in these circumstances. The knife was old and damaged, but he gave them a look that dared them all to approach him. No-one did, no-one wanted to be the first to face him and the weapon that he had found. For while his defeat was assured, who knew how many he could wound seriously before that knife gave up? But his position was not a perfect defence. From behind, Quintus grabbed a loose tile off the fireplace and struck him on the back of the head. Nightspud hit the floor, and they used the opportunity to string him up, hoping to put an end to the insanity that had trapped them here. With his death, they thought, this accursed place would free them so they could return to their lives. Unfortunately, they were wrong. Nightspud (Assassin in Burgundy) was an Explorer with a [Brittle] Knife and a Bead of Lerasium! Night falls. PMs may now be sent again. The Turn will end at 9PM GMT on Friday 2nd. 17. The time is here. There is an anniversary edition of the first Mistborn book, in gorgeous leatherbound, and it's going on sale tonight, December 1st, at midnight EST. That's just over six hours away. It does have a hefty price tag, like the Elantris leatherbound, at $100. But I will say that the Elantris leatherbound was spectacular, and its first printing went out of stock rapidly. If you're interested, don't delay. Note that these Mistborn leatherbounds will not be guaranteed for a Christmas delivery, due to Brandon's tour schedule and tour delays. There's awesome stuff in the Mistborn leatherbound. Let Kara from Dragonsteel Entertainment explain: Speaking of the Final Empire art, it is spectacular. You can also buy a poster of it, which I am absolutely doing right now. It has a fantastic style to it, and is simply gorgeous. It actually has a date on it, 1021, which is the first time canonically in the Final Empire time period that we explicitly have a date on something. (1021, by the way, is three years before the end of The Well of Ascension.) Also, it canonizes locations mentioned The Eleventh Metal, and in in the Mistborn Adventure Game, and if I'm not mistaken, it includes brand-new locations on the imperial map. Maybe I missed things in the Mistborn Adventure Game, but I absolutely do not recall Lekal City in the Southern Dominance, for one. I'm pretty sure this is brand-new Final Empire lore. And that makes me unreasonably excited. Maybe these places are mentioned in some of the Mistborn Adventure Game supplements, though, but I can't find references to them. Feel free to zoom in on this poster and post your thoughts, because I'd love to hear them. Okay, I'm going to shut up about Final Empire geography now, because there's also some fantastic pieces of art from Arcanum Unbounded that you can buy. There's the star map of the cosmere, which were the endsheets for Arcanum Unbounded, and there are beautiful, colorized versions of each star system, too. The colorized versions are truly incredible, so at least click the link and zoom in on them.

Cause if there's no big cosmic bar by which we're measured, then the little things count more. (You are never bothering, for you are our Quiver and we likes you.)

  22. Existentialism is the best kind of angst. It leads to all sorts of questions like "What am I even doing with my life," and "Am I wasting my time." Questions like "Who do I even bother with stuff," since 'stuff' isn't going to get done anyway. Or trying to make full scale mental essays on "What have I done wrong today," and not seeing any real way that the future is going to change or be better. This is why I end up chasing comic books and fantasy and role-playing so much. Escapist fiction, yeah, but those are genres which place an emphasis on human life having an intrinsically high value, and sometimes, I feel like I...really don't. (And, add "Am I bothering (people on) the Shard with my whining," to concerns now...)

  25. Well it is my first post and i've looked and couldnt find anyone who wrote about it but correct me if its already have been theorised. It is known from a WoB(that i dont remember where) that Hoid uses Feruchemy to be where he needs to be although he doesnt actually know. I belive Hoid draws fortune to get lucky and happen to be where he needs to be. There is a quote from mistborn Secret History part 5, 2nd chapter "you always jump at stories, Alonoe. not every coincidence is a sign someone drawing upon fortune" and it sounds very similar to what hoid does that he just happends to be around major events around the cosmere.

  26. I've heard that winters in Japan and surrounding areas can be really brutal, even by the standards of someone who lives in Utah--an area that deals with a lot of snow in winter and rarely cancels anything for snow. My advice: make sure you have some boots or tall-ish shoes that won't let snow leak in the tops if you're walking through snow several inches deep. If it's icy, don't go outside in shoes without good grippy tread on the bottom, or it'll be much harder to avoid slipping and falling. The total number of layers you'll want to wear will probably depend on just how cold it gets, but I'd recommend bringing a somewhat lighter jacket for moderately chilly temps and so you can use different combinations of layers with your heavier jackets/coats for flexibility to deal with different temps on different days. You'll most likely want a scarf, and something to keep your head and ears warm as well--a knit beanie or some earmuffs or a fuzzy hat with earflaps. Edit: oh, I just thought of something else! Cold air doesn't hold moisture as well as warm air, so your hands or lips may get dry and chapped, especially if there's a lot of wind. Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) will help your skin not dry out so fast--it works for both your hands and your lips, or chapstick/lip balm can also help your lips.

  28. My creative writing juices have finally kicked back in! ...you know, now that NaNo is almost over. I have zero chance of hitting 50k, but at least I have momentum now. This means that once I finish the zero draft of Riding the Storm, I will go back and finish the final revision of Swift as Steel. Then I can start putting it up while I dive into the zero drafts for the rest of Eva's story, then rewrite Riding the Storm and send it off to alpha and beta readers. Some of this order may be subject to change; there's the possibility that I may push through and write the zero drafts of the short story bridge between books 2 and 3, and then book 3 as well, so that I have all of the big events sitting in front of me. My timeline needs a serious standardizing, so I might need to have the full story in zero draft form before that final tightening draft of the first book.

  30. Hi. I just read the Way of Kings for the fifth time, looking up info about the cosmere as I went. I thought of a theory about the ending scene and joined to better search the forum to see if someone else has already proposed it. Any suggestions on where I should start? It has to do with where Talenel's Honorblade went. I'm sure it's been talked about somewhere.

  31. I've been in the cinema to see Moana yesterday (really awesome film, BTW), and after I returned home, I stumbled upon the "Bavadin has invented entire pantheons of gods" WoB from Reddit, and somehow those two ideas mixed in my head. In other words: You know you're a Sanderfan when you spend the entire afternoon thinking about Disney-style Cosmere musical, where each Shard has their own song. I think Bavadin's would have her show up as all the gods she's been puppeting over the ages, "fanning out from behind her"-style.

  33. Brandon says Worldhoppers undergo some form of "time dilation" that slows down their aging. Speculation: Though Worldhoppers travel through the Cognitive Realm, maybe they still benefit from time's relativity. There are Physical Realm distances between planets, and the Cosmere's physical "laws" are our own, plus magic. It takes Demoux a short time to travel from Scadrial to Roshar through the CR, but the planets may be light years distant. Demoux would have been long dead had he remained on Scadrial. Think Planet of the Apes, except that the space travel was through the CR, not space itself. Does this explanation make sense?

  38. Would there be any benefit to trying to match the Roshar Shadesmar map with the new AU star chart? If we align Expanse of Vapors with Scadrial on the AU star chart, then work our way clockwise through the planets with close proximity to Roshar the next planet we come to is Nalthis which aligns with the next Expanse on the Roshar map (Vibrance). Going counterclockwise from Scadrial/Vapors, we would get Broken Sky paired with Taldain which also seems to fit for reasons others have already stated. Leaving us with Expanse of Densities to be paired with either Braize, Ashyn, or Sel. For this, I think Braize & Ashyn can fit for expanse of densities as WW described earlier: This would leave Sel as the odd one out. One possibility is that it is one of the Densities in the Expanse of Densities, but I think it's more likely not to be represented on the Shadesmar map. Perhaps as a result of the issues caused by the splittering, but it could be due to Sel's close proximity to Nalthis. You may have to travel through vibrance/nalthis to get to Sel's CR from Roshar-Shadesmar, similar to how Massachusetts is near Maine but you have to travel 20miles through New Hampshire to get there.

  39. Well, hm. Let's work through the potential causes for the afterimages real quick: The afterimages are a byproduct of Szeth dying and being brought back to life. This is a distinct possibility, and might very well be the answer. We've yet to see any other character go through this scenario, and I can't think of any particular counter-argument, so I'd rank this as 50% likely, though it's not the theory I want to happen. The afterimages are a manifestation of the powers Szeth is developing from bonding with Nightblood. We've already seen examples in the story of proto-Radiants using their powers unintentionally (I.E. Kaladin Lashing arrows to the bridge he's carrying). I can see this working the same way; that the afterimages are a part of the powers Szeth is developing, and this is a way to foreshadow them. Like the first bullet, I can't think of any particular counter-argument, but I'm also biased because I want this theory to be the case, because an assassin capable of making real or fake clones of himself could be very fun to read. I rank this at 40% likely. The afterimages are a result of Szeth being unsure of himself. As cool as this idea is, I don't think it's the cause, simply because a ton of people have this problem in the real world. Sure, maybe not a lot have it as bad as Szeth, but I'm sure Lift would have noticed this sort of thing at least once before during her travels. I'd put this explanation at 10% likely, as a result.

  40. Hm. I'd guess that normal KR's cannot. Secret History and Hero of Ages Spoilers: That being said, I personally believe that Szeth is bonding with Nightblood to become something akin to a Knights Radiant, but he will become one unlike any of the prexisting orders. I think that the proto-Skybreakers asking if he's going to fly with them is because they're assuming he can too, since he is one of Nale's apprentices. That or they're taunting him because they know he no longer can. Either way, since Szeth is bonding something entirely different than a Highspren, I don't believe he will be able to use the Gravitation Surge, or any other Surge, for that matter. I believe he will develop abilities unlike any that have been seen on Roshar before. On that note, whether or not Szeth is going to have to speak Oaths to further his bond with Nightblood, I can't say for certain. I actually doubt it, to be honest, though it would be a fun thought experiment to come up with Oaths that pertain to Nightblood. I think that Szeth is going to end up adhering to the same Command that Nightblood was given; in other words, is going to adopt the purpose of "destroying evil." This is a part of the reason why I think Szeth will end up being the one who ends up defeating Odium, or at least, play a pivotal role in his defeat. Despite me rooting for Kaladin pulling through (mostly because I love Syl and don't want her to die), I do think it'd be a better story if Kaladin proved the Stormfather right by succumbing to his Hatred, thus becoming Odium's Champion, rather than Honor's. If one of the two halves ended with Kaladin and Szeth fighting again, and this time their roles reversed with Szeth ending up the victor, I would be pretty satisfied, honestly. Back to the Afterimages. I disagree with them not being associated with Nightblood. I believe they're a part of the powers that Szeth is developing because of the bond he's forming with the sentient sword. I think that maybe as Szeth's bond gets stronger, he will be able to control these afterimages, either to create illusionary clones or even physical clones outright, to aid him future battles.

  41. ok die is weird and scary. ok that Silverlight would be probably build on "sea" (solid in the Cognitive)...But imagine someone who drowns there and He finds himself in a fully and alien city filled of worldhoppers who see him and bet on his countdown from the Beyond

  42. Yeah, I was online when you voted against me (but that was 2 AM in my country so I went to sleep). And as JUQ wrote I tried to draw votes. But then happened "Great Ookla vote invasion" I'm not expected that. So that's why I not retract my vote.(and cause I was little bit confused by Wyrm's post: " I'm not counting this vote unless I am informed of who posted it. You were warned. " (that was said about Stink's vote cause stink was Ookla the Bard as I remember), of course latter Wyrm added that Stink's vote will be count (but I didn't saw it). If u will ask me why I was against lynch. I was against it cause I thought that 2-3 elims not enough to find them by random lynch or get some information from lynch. Here I'm. Some questions? Waste on you? Why you so sure that it's gonna be waste Nothing to blame. I'm too gonna throw vote on you if there will be need for me. But you don't looks suspicios to me. If you want to know whom I suspected it was Elenion. But you know that suspicions like mehh... not very good reasoned or just taken out of context. That's what he writes on the first day: That looks like that he think's that is a good idea do some lynch on the first day. And he do it. He throws his vote on phattemer.( yeah u can say that's poke vote to make phatt more active or make some disсussion, but there already Rae's vote on phatt, so the only meaning in this vote to lynch him(phatt I mean)). That what he says on the day 2: So he agreed with Jondesu.(but Jondesu was against lynch).(Yeah there reasons why he changed he's opinion on that lynch " there were no suspicious vote swings or information leaks"). Then: Okay he was unable to retract his vote. But still "Playstyle this game" not looks like very good reason for lynch.(but okay my vote looks not much better). That's just my opinion... and i have nothing more to say. I'll put my vote later.

  43. Nine. Nalan initially discarded his too. There is a WoB that states one of the Honorblades was retrieved after the Oathpact was (partially) broken.

  44. Update to the OP here, in light of the AU Essays and some new WoBs: This has been evidence that Trell has to be connected to one of the Shards we've been made aware of to this point in the game. This WoB was before AU was released, so that limited this to Devotion, Dominion, or Honor (unlikely as they've been splintered), Odium or Cultivation (unlikely as they're stuck in Roshar), Preservation/Ruin/Harmony (impossible, as Harmony did not know where this shard came from), or Autonomy, the shard of the Taldain system. We didn't know anything else about Autonomy at the time of this WoB, other than the name of its Vessel, Bavadin. We now can confirm that Autonomy has been engaged in off-world interference with other planets. This supports the idea that Bleeder's motives were influenced by Autonomy, as they were focused on freeing people on Scadrial from oppression. Miles and Suit were involved with a mysterious organization known as The Set, which had a cult-like following of Trell, some kind of demigod that was directing their steps (as evidenced by the Red Eyed Immortals in BoM). So Autonomy has influenced various peoples on various planets via religious pantheons - this leads me to believe (as have others) that the Trell we read about in Mistborn Era 1 may not necessarily be the same Trell we see in Mistborn Era 2, that perhaps something has hijacked this belief system as a way of manipulation/influence on Scadrial that doesn't stand out too much from accepted (or at least recognized) religions there. This fits with the idea that Bavadin has often appeared with many different personas for various purposes over time. This begs the question, why would Autonomy be so engaged in off-world interference, which seems to be in direct opposition with its shardic intent of autonomy? Updated Theory Proposition The Red-Eyed Immortals on Scadrial are of Autonomy, which is not only interfering with the people there, but is doing so with the intentions of making Harmony believe it is Odium doing the interfering. Why do this? Isn't it a roundabout way of interfering on another planet? Yes, but Autonomy has interfered in such a way in the past to create entire pantheons of religious gods on a planet while being the only man/woman behind every mask. Autonomy is acting in self-preservation for its own long-term autonomy - dual/fused shards pose a risk of being more powerful and Odium poses a risk of desiring to be the only shard left unsplintered in the cosmere. First, yes this WoB could be an example of Brandon being Brandon and feeding us a vague answer to a vague question. HOWEVER, if it isn't that, then it would stand to reason that Autonomy, who wouldn't want any fused/combined shards from existing to challenge its own power, would want to help an enemy with a bloodlust and willingness to attack other shards. Even if you don't buy into the idea of Devotion and Dominion being fused together into the fused shard Unity, their Vessels were possibly involved romantically and could be viewed as a unified threat (i.e. the power of two shards) that could risk opposition to Autonomy and challenge Odium's place of dominance in cosmere. After all, The Letter from Hoid doesn't just call out Rayse/Odium: Why would Hoid have a grudge against Rayse AND Bavadin? Sure, there could be two separate grudges for completely different and unrelated reasons, however Hoid refers to his grudge (SINGULAR) against two individuals - the Vessels of Odium and Autonomy. These two (possibly) have targeted planets with two shards that could be working together before (Sel: Dominion/Devotion; Roshar: Honor/Cultivation), why would the pattern be any different now? Autonomy could be baiting Harmony into a conflict with Odium by mimicking Odium's presence (i.e. "red eyes," the death rattle-esk words of Miles, etc). Trick the bully into fighting your fights so they're weaker when the time finally comes for you to fight them (which I believe Odium would do to Autonomy eventually - no way he'd let Autonomy alone). I know that's a lot, but that's my working theory for now! Whew! I was feeling a high after reading through the Tower sequence near the end of TWoK, but I think I just drained myself of all my Stormlight! :-P Let me know what you think!

  45. Brandon just posted a really cool breakdown of immortality in the cosmere on reddit. The most interesting bit of it for me is this though: Heralds are a type of Cognitive shadow. This makes intuitive sense to me, as they're killed repeatedly so there must be some method by which they continue to live, but I thought it was very interesting.

  46. When you ask about it, would you mind asking about my theory of Awakening and pointillism with regard to why objects turn grey? (Because grey is a color. So this confuses me.) I'd love to go to Hoboken for the signing, but I literally just gave birth (4.5 hours ago) and will probably not be up for the trip... So if you could ask this I would be really grateful. (I have no idea when he will be anywhere near NY again, otherwise I wouldn't ask. Usually he's too far to travel to.)

  47. Not my story, but one relayed via a youtube channel I follow which I found entertaining. So this guy decided to run a DnD 5th edition game, and he decided to play it as a spoof of Lord of the Rings. The concept was that the party was going to have the mystical anklet of the Dark Lord Archaeopteryx, and had to take it to the far end of the world to sell it to an inter dimensional pawn shop. As part of that, he made up his version of the Silmarillion mythology, which I found entertaining, which is what I'm talking about now. So, his concept was that, at the beginning of time, the great God Particularis was the conductor of the orchestra that sung the world into creation. The Great Evil was a god called Widfa. As I say, it's based on the Silmarillion. If you aren't familiar with it, the concept for the Silmarillion mythology is that the God of the LotR verse (Eru) gathered the Valar and had them sing the world into creation. During the song, one of the Valar, Melkor, made changes and tried to do his own thing, causing a lot of discord and strife in the choir. Melkor went on to become the OG Dark Lord, and Sauron's boss, Morgoth. Widfa had a... slightly different motive. He got lost. The orchestra was singing off of a score sheet meant to summon all of creation into being. With that in mind, it was quite long; infinite, in fact. Which made it really bad when Widfa lost his place. Suddenly, he had no idea where the rest of the group was, what page they were supposed to be on, or what he was supposed to be playing. A bad situation to begin with, but he also happened to be playing an important instrument. So he started trying to fake it, by pretending to play. ...Except, that doesn't exactly fly when your boss is the All-Knowing God, so Particularis kept honing in on Widfa and telling him to start playing louder. At which point Widfa just starts playing random notes, hoping that maybe he's at the right place with the rest of the group, and he never is. According to the DM, Widfa's bad music is the cause for discord and disharmony in the world, and eventually, it gets so bad that Particularis banishes Widfa from his chair and makes him sit in the back to play the triangle... and Widfa still can't do that right, so every now and again, small disturbances and unrest in the world happen because Widfa doesn't know when to chime in properly. I found the idea entertaining.

  48. The other day, I was thinking about how cool it would be if Coinshots and Lurchers were Feruchemists. Then I started thinking about the final details... Rough draft done by my sister via pencil, final draft done by me with MediBang and a Wacom Intuous Tablet.

  49. I have no doubt that a Scadrian, or anyone from any world for that matter, could become a Surgebinder. I'm saying that I think it would take some serious planning on their part to get it done, similar to the preparation required to use AonDor on another planet. I've seen the quote you mentioned before, and like I said, the process outlined there requires a lot of preparation and work (and I think might be overly complicated, I'm virtually certain that there are simpler ways to become a Surgebinder than the one outlined in the quote). I don't think its just as easy as someone from another planet simply acting in accordance with the spren's ideals. As Djarskublar so rightly mentioned, one of the reasons Hemalurgy is notable because it can be used by anyone, anywhere in the cosmere. This indicates that universal ability access to a magic system is uncommon. Is it possible that any worldhopper can stroll over to Roshar, act honorable and pick up a spren? Absolutely! I think that Surgebinding is a system that very possibly is open to use by people from other planets. Is this definitely the case? Absolutely not. It's possible that some preexisting connection to Honor or Cultivation is required as well. We don't know. I would like to point out though, that in the unlikely circumstance that a spren was attempting to bond with Vivenna, the situation would likely be further complicated by the fact that she probably has at least some additional Breath on her (which may not necessarily be evident, see Hoid's use of perfect pitch with no mention of odd colors on Kaladin's part). Investiture interferes with Investiture. That is just one more reason that Vivenna would be unlikely to bond with a spren by accident. If she were to want to become a Surgebinder for some reason, she would not be displaying the confusion that the Stump shows upon being confronted with her Radiant abilities. Lets move past this argument for a moment though, because we could go round and round on it and I think we are neglecting a larger issue. We have a tendency here to jump at shadows a lot of times. This reminds me a lot of when it came out that the constellations on Sel are in the form of Aons. Many people jumped at that, assuming that this had some deep magical implications, when in reality it was just as simple as people looking at the stars and correlating them to something important within their culture. Lets take a step back from the question about the possibility of a Nalthian bonding a spren and look at the evidence. I think we should approach this really rationally, which some people here have already started doing. What indicates that the Stump is Vivenna? Does she behave or speak similarly? Is she described similarly? Does she have any indication of a mysterious past? Any hints at her being royalty, perhaps a mention of her hair color changing? As far as I recall from my reading there is none of that, although I welcome someone to present any evidence. Taking another step back, what evidence is there that the Stump is from Nalthis? The single piece of evidence that has been presented is the use by children at her orphanage of painted stones in playing games. This is not a bad hint, Brandon often drops small hints, but typically there is more evidence once you begin to dig into its implications. Does the Stump even seem like a person that would teach children a game? Is there anything else that even hints remotely at a Nalthis connection? Not from anything that I saw, (although again, I welcome further evidence). So the question becomes, what is likely? Is it likely that the Stump is secretly a Nalthian princess, teaching children games from her home planet that accidentally bonds with a spren? Or is Lift's explanation more likely? I apologize if I come across as a buzzkill, but the answer needn't be a worldhopper with a secret identity every time something that seems odd an coincidental. I think we need to be more rigorous in our theorizing. Sometimes a pebble is just a pebble.
