  1. The wizened, weathered man was strolling down the street, a smile on his face. Eyes gleaming, he knocked on the door of the nearest inn, looking for a vacant room. Surprisingly enough, someone actually opened the door for him, looking surprised at their own actions. Jumae was used to it by now, after all, he did have some special talents. The innkeeper turned towards him, teeth gleaming, and started to ask about what he could be doing at such a late time before Jumae interrupted him. “Why does everything in this storming city gleam?” The Innkeeper shut his mouth, hiding his gleaming teeth from everyone in the room, but it wasn’t enough. One of the customers had gleaming hair, which Jumae took quick notice of. So it was at that moment that everyone in the Inn got even more confused, when everything became monochrome. Jumae had his finger pointed up in the air, the only colour in the room an orb around his cuticle, going from red to blue to yellow to no other colours, as there were only three Pokemon GO Teams (side-note, watch out for my Pokemon QF coming soon!). “Now nothing shall gleam in this despairing night!” Jumae exclaimed, reminding everyone that even though the colour had seemingly drained out of reality, there was still sound. Instantly, everyone clamoured to have their thoughts heard. “But Hearthstone needs it’s colour to fully appeal to it’s audience!” The Innkeeper cried out. “But my gleaming hair! That took 3 months of Dove™” the customer with the previously-gleaming hair screamed. “Hey! Who turned the lights off!” Some poor deaf guy screamed out, unable to hear Jumae’s points of wisdom. Jumae only laughed, or cackled if you thought he was evil. This was only the beginning of what would happen in ‘The Godless City’, and he knew that there was much more to come, he could feel it in his fingers and his toes. With a final flourish, he pointed at the Innkeeper and bellowed out… “MAKE SURE JOE KNOWS MY CHARACTER NAME IS JUMAE AND NOT STINK!”

  2. I think a little much is being applied to this quote. I take it this way: " Ruin said. “Stay back? I’m all around you—the air (wind erodes, air pollution damages your lungs, etc) you pretend to breathe, the ground (earthquakes destroy cities, landslides bury, even insects and animals within the earth erode ruin and destroy) beneath your feet. I’m in that knife (cuts up things into smaller pieces, ends lives) and in your very soul (all beings on scadrial are made up of preservation and ruin, as well as Kelsier is shown to be very "ruinous" in his killing of the nobility and bringing down the lord ruler's reign). How exactly am I to ‘stay back’?”" So it is basically Ruin inflated ego Ati talking about how powerful and pervasive Ruin is. Just like his convo with Vin in the original trilogy. He is saying ruin is in all things. It is a natural step in the order of the cosmere. Running away from ruin is as likely as trying to run away from yourself. It is everywhere, all the time. It is in the air you breath, the ground you walk on, any of your possessions and you yourself. So how exactly is he to stay back?

  3. Atop the once gleaming walls of Elantris, a man with skin the color of mahogany and long, flowing locks of snow-white hair wept openly into the sleeve of his billowy robe, its golden sheen hardly radiant in the pallid moonlight. "Aona! Aona! Wherefore art thou, Aona!" he yelled between the sobs that wracked his chest, throat raw and voice cracking with strain. An echo resounded back, reminding him of the poor reflection of his former self he had become. A Vessel he may be, but ever since the day she left him, he was surely an empty one. Even before he held Honor, Tanavast was an honorable man. His honor then was a gentle thing, not yet twisted by Sorrow and Hatred. He was never much of a fighter, though he thought himself as chivalrous as a knight. The kind of man who would hold a door for a stranger and expect nothing in return, or buy a beggar a drink and offer his ear to hear his woes. For anything more he was often too shy to act; at least until he met Aona. It was love at first sight. From the moment he laid his eyes on her, he knew she was the woman he had been waiting for his whole life. At that very moment he made a promise to himself: to do anything and everything for her. Whatever it took to make her his. Though his hasty introduction was undoubtedly awkward, she said she thought him cute, and by the grin on her face, he thought it true. That he might truly have a chance. After an era of reflection, he knew now that she never saw him as a someone she could love, but someone she could use. And use him she did. Adonalsium. Tanavast never wanted any part in that plot, but Aona had him wrapped so tight around her little finger, his mind could not even summon the word no in her presence. And so he committed the ultimate crime: deicide. And how did she repay him? By abandoning him and running away with that dastardly rogue Skai. If he wasn’t such a coward, he would have thrown himself into a chasm right then. Not that Senna would have let him, anyway. Before the Shattering, Leras’ sister never paid him any mind, but once she took up Cultivation that all changed. She could feel his pain, and by god's grace, she became determined to heal him. His power changed him, too. While she became obsessed with mending the broken, he became obsessed with keeping oaths. Somewhere along the line she ended up falling for him, though he could not reciprocate those feelings. He was much too focused on that first promise he made, now so long ago. He would do anything and everything for Aona. Whatever it took to make her his. He already helped her kill god. What was one more casualty in a war for love? Only he knew he was not strong enough to face Skai alone. And if Aona ever caught wind of his part in his death, she would certainly never forgive him. And so he made a deal with that devil, Rayse. It was a simple plan. Let Rayse kill Skai, and then just before he could kill her, too, Tanavast would swoop in to save her, like a knight in shining armor, and win her love. Only Rayse didn’t hold back. Not like he promised. So foolish he was to trust such an inherently evil man to keep his word; let alone one who bore god’s Hatred. He tried to fight him then, but despite the storm raging inside him, he could not defeat him there. And so he fled, clutching a wound at his side that was too big for his hands to close, all the way back to Roshar, to Senna’s embrace, and collapsed. She healed him then - one last time - before she left him too. He was never very good at keeping secrets from her, what with her ability to tell the future so strong. It was a miracle he had kept his plans a secret from her for so long. That battle had not ended with Rayse unscathed, either. Until then, that man thought himself untouchable. Seething with anger, he searched the Cosmere for Tanavast, destroying everything that dared get in his way. But when he finally found him on Roshar, he did not expect him to be so brave or strong. How ironic it was that Rayse’s betrayal would transform Tanavast into the one man capable of defeating him. Tanavast could have killed him then, though death was too good a fate for a man like Rayse. Instead he bound him to Braize - a jagged, molten world - and made sure the pain he felt was inflicted on that demon ten-fold. It took him a long time to be satisfied, but once he was, he left for Sel again, his Heralds and their Knights Radiant left to rule in his stead. Stepping out of Sel's Perpendicularity, he could have sworn he heard Aona's voice. But no, that couldn't have been her. She was dead. Shattered, just as Adonalisum was shattered so many lifetimes ago. Tanavast had only one hope left: to gather the pieces Rayse left of Aona in the world, and with his power put them all back together. Maybe then, with the power that her soul had been devoted to for so long restored, she would be too. It was a faint hope, but it was also the only hope he had left. Tanavast. Once, he was proud of that name, but after everything that's happened, the name tasted vile. If he wanted to redeem himself, he knew he'd have to take on a new name, a new persona, like Midius the Meddlesome. But what? Honor's Vessel thought long and hard, his once shuddering breath now steady with concentration. Honor... or in the local language, Mai. Now that he thought about it, he could pass as a Korathi Priest. He was devoted enough to Aona, after all, though he would have to get used to calling her Domi. Father Mai. It could work. It even had a kind of ring to it, albeit an ironic one. A frigid wind blew, prompting Father Mai to rise. It was late, and though he didn't really need sleep, he was mentally and emotionally exhausted. If he were going to play the part of a normal mortal, it would do him good to take on the routine of one. And so he descended along a path down the eastern wall, straight into the heart of the city of Kae, until he happened upon a monochrome inn, oddly devoid of color, and purchased himself a room.

  4. I used to have a spreadsheet tracking the number of pages of new fiction Brandon published each year, but it was lost in a laptop crash. So I am going to recreate it here. There might be a couple of other folks that would find it interesting, and hopefully also some people who can correct me where I'm wrong. A couple of quick notes on methods: (1) Relying on page numbers is, of course inexact. Using word counts would give us a much more accurate measurement of productivity. But I only have word counts for a few of these works, so page numbers it is. (2) Wherever possible, I will use the original US release to determine the number of pages. If I don't have that, I use whatever I can find. If you have the original release, please pass along the info and I will update. Thanks! NEW PAGES OF FICTION BY BRANDON SANDERSON PUBLISHED EACH YEAR 2005 total = 622 pages of new fiction Elantris, 622 pp. (Tor, mass market paperback) 2006 total = 565 pages of new fiction "Hope of Elantris," 24 pages (BrandonSanderson.com) Mistborn: The Final Empire, 541 pp. (Tor, hardcover) 2007 total = 902 pages of new fiction Well of Ascension, 590 pp. (Tor, hardcover) Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians, 312 pp. (Scholastic, hardcover) 2008 total = 1,056 pages of new fiction Hero of Ages, 572 pp. (Tor, hardcover) Alcatraz vs. the Scrivener's Bones, 324 pp. (Scholastic, trade paperback) Defending Elysium, 83 pp. (Dragonsteel, 2013 hardcover) Firstborn, 77 pp. (Dragonsteel, 2013 hardcover) 2009 total = 1,698 pages of new fiction Warbreaker, 592 pp. (Tor, hardcover) Alcatraz vs. the Knights of Crystallia, 323 pp. (Scholastic, hardcover) The Gathering Storm, 783 pp. (Tor, hardcover) 2010 total = 2,164 pages of new fiction The Way of Kings, 1007 pp. (Tor, hardcover) Towers of Midnight, 861 pp. (Tor, hardcover) Alcatraz vs. the Shattered Lens, 296 pp. (Scholastic, hardcover) 2011 total = 495 pages of new fiction "I Hate Dragons," 8 pp. (BrandonSanderson.com) Infinity Blade: Awakening, 128 pp. (Kindle ebook) The Alloy of Law, 332 pp. (Tor, hardcover) "The Eleventh Metal," 27 pp. (BrandonSanderson.com) 2012 total = approximately 288 pages of new fiction "Heuristic Algorithm and Reasoning Response Engine," I am guessing maybe like 25 pages? 6. This entire post is pretty much one big Secret History spoiler, so you have been warned So there is one little passage in Secret History that could have some interesting implications, here is the passage in question: Now that knife Kelsier is waving around came from Nazh, and while it does not really explain its composition or anything from what I could find, Nazh does mention that he is fond of it. That leads me to think that perhaps it is from Threnody, in which case it is weird that Ruin identifies Nazh's knife as specifically containing pieces of him. I see a few possible ways to interpret this scene 1) The knife is actually from Scadrial. Possible. Nazh had probably managed be in the physical realm in Scadrial before, and could have obtained a knife while there 2) Ruin just assumes Kelsier's knife is part of him, I mean how is Kelsier going to get a worldhopping knife? Seems unlikely though, I would think a shard could sense if something was made from its investiture or not. 3) Ruin is part of Adonalsium so technically anyting made by Adonalsium could be construed as containing part of Ruin. A bit of a stretch 4) It is a typo, or continuity error. Boring but still should be considered 5) Threnody is connected to Ruin in some way. This is the most interesting possibility. The Ire mention that they have made precautions specifically against threnodite shades, so it is already fairly plausible to believe that Threnody is in the same solar system as Scadrial, that was already debated here. In all the WoB I can find since, he sidesteps the question. Anyway if a knife taken from Threnody really is created out of Ruin's investiture then there has to be at least some connection. Maybe Threnody was an first attempt at creating a world by Preservation and Ruin. Or maybe they created the whole solar system and then only got trapped to Scadrial once they invested even more heavily in it by creating humans. Perhaps the "evil" on threnody was nothing more than the Deepness that Alendi and Rashek were fighting, and the current inhabitants of Threnody are refugees from that event (though I am not sold on that idea just yet). In any case there are probably other interesting implications I did not consider here, and besides this is a lot to extrapolate from a single passage. Thoughts?

  9. Disclaimer, the following post stars Shiny Sparkle doing shiny stuff and not confined by the consequences of canon. Part 1 of ? For once Shiny decided to take a walk. It was as dull as she always imagined without a cutie in her arms, even worse it appears that after Skullpowder rampaged through the area the beach was no longer visited by the locals, not even the nude section. Worst way to get around ever. In an attempt to at least see some light in this dire situation, and the absence of women wearing at the very most revealing swimsuits at a beach was bordering on an apocalyptic event, Shiny kicked up some sand and made it explode into wonderful sparkling lights. Skipping through her sparkling beach she found a lone figure lying at the beach. Instantly Shiny teleported next to her and what she found was a… a hot pink skinned alien babe sleeping on the beach in a violet one-piece revealing a passable amount of cleavage and navel. Curves in just the right places, cute face with extra cat ears. Calamity yes! This brave adventurer of love shall now make first contact. Shiny Sparkle started with gently waking her up by tenderly slipping her hands under the beauty’s one-piece swim suit. Wearing anything while being on the holy nude beach territory was just no way to behave oneself. Of course such beauty was perfectly innocent but even if this darling didn’t know earth’s customs yet, Shiny would be sure to teach her all about how a cute woman should act. She’d make sure to teach her everything in very personal detail. Just as Shiny made the first skin contact with alien beauty she startled awake with a gasp, just before the moans too, bummer. “You must…” the space babe said only to interrupt herself with coughing. “defend against the Blackest Night…” Then she went limp. “No! Not don’t go, space babe! I didn’t even get to know your name… and I’m not into corpses.” But space babe remained motionless. Why must fate be so cruel? Then Shiny noticed a violet light glowing on the space babe’s finger. On closer inspection it was a ring, a shining ring. Space babe even had great taste in accessories and they didn’t get a chance to go on a date. Then the ring started floating off her finger and towards Shiny Sparkle. THERE IS error GREAT LOVE IN YOUR HEART. WELCOME TO THE STAR SAPPHIRES. Then the ring placed herself on Shiny’s finger and the violet light enveloped her. When the wave of light settled down Shiny found herself clad in the same violet suit that space babe was wearing. Not bad at all, though if it was going for the fan service angle it might as well show some more skin. As she thought about that some of the cloth pulled away from the sides of her waist. NOW JOIN YOUR SISTERS TO REPELL THE BLACKEST NIG- “Sparks no. I can feel love itself calling out to me and I can see that I have been foolish. Quick, we must go to the season of love.” As Shiny declared her goal a portal appeared in the air before her and Shiny stepped through it with the confidence only love could bestow upon a woman. SPRING? “No you silly ring, I’m talking about Autumn.”

  10. Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice. Last week's party happened without much incident. I did not attempt to communicate with or approach the girl. I would have preferred sitting at a different table, but my closest office friends sat with her and they invited me over, so felt I had little choice. Thankfully we never had to interact with each other. There was one time during the party when I was about to enter the men's room just as she exited the ladies' room. If I hadn't read your advice (particularly Delightful's) I would have been sorely tempted to talk to her then, particularly since she just stood there looking at me. But through your guidance, I realized that she must have been rooted to the spot due to fear of me, so I quickly went inside without a second thought. Anyway, my telecommuting experiment starts tomorrow. I will also start looking for dating opportunities. Wish me luck! Edit: @Cognizantastic, if I may contribute, I think two mutually attracted people do not necessarily have to start a relationship immediately. The two of you can happily remain "just friends" while you are not yet ready. Just tell her about your situation and see if she understands. Are you by any chance trying to avoid relationships because of your academic goals?

  12. Ashkelon kept his hood up, obscuring his face. Although his Dula features wouldn't have appeared too out-of-place, he concealed them in an attempt to look as imposing as possible, in order to keep any would-be bandits away. He couldn't be robbed... not today, not while he still carried It over his shoulder. He turned and looked at the duffel, making sure that it was still there, even though its sizable weight was assurance enough. He searched for reputable housing: pick something too rich and he'd make himself a target; pick something too poor and those at the inn might become suspicious if he couldn't act the part. And he couldn't act poor very well: he had lived his life in elegance on a Dula Senator's salary, up until he had traded his previous life for It. He eventually rejected his previous logic and chose an inn that conspicuously was in monochrome: something that made it stand out from the multicolored street outside. My enemies wouldn't possibly suspect that I'm in the most-easily-found place around, he thought, even though the reasoning exacerbated his headache. He could reason when he wanted to, but he was tired from his travel, especially with It in the bag weighing him down, and the fatigue from the journey had given him a headache. He walked into the inn, and noted that the inside was as conspicuous as the outside. Reaching into his pocket, he deposited enough coins for exactly one week. He could have paid more, of course, but he decided that it was better for it to be assumed that he didn't have that kind of money. He also didn't leave a tip, that was for personal reasons: he hated the idea of giving someone else more of his money than necessary. He found the idea of tips especially abhorrent. He lugged his single duffel upstairs and into the room he had been assigned. He immediately pulled down the drapes: an uncovered window was an invitation for thieves, and thieves he hated even more than tips. They were the two T's that he hated: thieves and tips, symbols of corruption, anarchy, and generosity, all of which he hated with a vengeance. Ashkelon wondered for a second: What will happen to my company? The moneylenders don't know that I've sold out to the syndicate. But he didn't think of that too much: empathy led to generosity, and generosity led to tips and thieves. He opened the duffel, taking out the few things he'd brought with him. He took out each, examined them, and set them aside. The ledgers of his moneylenders came out first, taken so they would have no proof that there was once anything in the vault. Next was the money from the vault itself, because even though he sold the business to the syndicate, he didn't really count last month's profits as part of that. Third out was a gold-plated crossbow. While it was not very effective, anyone who crossed him didn't know that. Last came It. He had got It from the syndicate in exchange for selling his business. He had carried the briefcase inside his duffel for most of the trip, and it was It that had made him so paranoid about robbers. He opened one clasp, then another, then a third. He had sold his entire enterprise for It, against the wishes of the stockholders, directors, and the employees themselves. He opened the briefcase and leaned back as he smelled the money inside.

  13. Anelin checked the numbers one more time, dotting each line of work as she checked it. Four other columns of dots ran down the paper, each representing a round of inspection. She was right, as she always was. Anelin frowned and dropped her quill. She didn't have enough money to rent a room at an inn for a month. Her greedy pig of a brother had confiscated most of her travel funds to finance his own drinking. While she impressed Iadon, he would entertain himself back in their Deo estates. Anelin's eyes darkened. I'll pay him back one day, she thought. Meanwhile, she had a lack of money to deal with. She grabbed a piece of paper and listed out necessities for this trip, things that she couldn't cut funding to. Food Water Appearance Anelin paused at "appearance". She needed to look every part the strong representative of the wealthy family that she was, and she already was at a disadvanatge -- rumor held that Iadon disapproved of females. The least Anelin could do was look clean. Housing Anelin paused again. She couldn't rent a room for a month, but her cousin, Naara, had graciously offered to let her stay in the outskirts of Kae as a stop on her journey to the new capitol. Maybe she'll let me stay a few days more, Anelin thought. That would solve my housing problem neatly.

  17. Argon dived to grab one of the spears conjured by Kenshin. He has never really used any melee weapons, but how hard can it be? The moment he reached the ground to pick up the spear one of the ghouls charged at him. Argon didn't manage to get the weapon ready before the attacker run into him and they both fell. He had to fight hard with the urge to just crush the ghoul with his telekinetic powers, while the monster tried to kill him with bites and scratches. Fortunately, several layers of clothing made him safe from the nails for now. Argon flew up several meters above the ground with the ghoul attached to him, doing his best to avoid his teeth. Once high enough, he used a telekinetic push to get the zombie off him. A splat came second later, announcing the death of his attacker. By the time Argon got back to the ground for the weapon, most of the ghouls were already killed by Kenshin, only three were left trying to get to Rick. Armed with a spear, Argon flew in their direction and stabbed the first one. His spear dug into wild mans left shoulder, right between the collarbone and shoulder blade, killing him almost instantly. The spear got stuck and slipped from Argon's fingers as the man fell down. One of the two still surviving ghouls managed to climb up to the roof, using old christmas decorations and vines growing on the wall. It charged at Rick and bit his arm. Seconds after that Argon managed to grab the monster from behind, choking it with his arm around it's throat. Rick managed to get free from the bite, jerking his arm away, with a single tooth still his flesh. The zombie still tried to reach him with it's hands and legs, but it soon passed out from Argon's grip. The last ghoul climbed up on the roof and run towards Argon. With a little help of telekinesis he managed to get out of it's way, just to let it fall from the roof on the other side of the building. It started to get up, when Argon snapped it's neck with his powers. "Man, you suck at using spears, you know that?" Rick said, holding his hurt arm, as he walked closer to Argon.

  19. Recently, while looking through Theoryland, I found this WoB on Glys. (source) I started thinking about why Glys's appearance might be important, and I came up with a few possible reasons. 1. We have seen Truthwatcherspren before. I'm not sure where this would have happened, though. The only unknown spren I can think of is the suspected captivityspren Kaladin sees in jail. 2. Truthwatcherspren have a significant feature in their appearance. The Truthwatchers are the order directly opposite of the Bondsmiths, who bond with godspren, so I could see Truthwatcherspren being different from other spren as well 3. Glys looks different from other Truthwatcherspren. I don't know why this would be true. Maybe since Renarin is the first Truthwatcher in a long time, they didn't send a "normal" spren. 4. Glys is not a Truthwatcherspren. Personally, this is my least favorite theory. I don't think it is true, but I felt I should put it up here. If Brandon told us that Glys has glowing red eyes, that would definitely be significant. Tell me me which theory you like and agree with, or if you have a theory of your own.

Here is NY state penal law sub section 35.15 shown below (bolded for emphases): 1. A person may, subject to the provisions of subdivision two, use physical force upon another person when and to the extent he or she reasonably believes such to be necessary to defend himself, herself or a third person from what he or she reasonably believes to be the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by such other person, unless: (a) The latter's conduct was provoked by the actor with intent to cause physical injury to another person;  or (b) The actor was the initial aggressor;  except that in such case the use of physical force is nevertheless justifiable if the actor has withdrawn from the encounter and effectively communicated such withdrawal to such other person but the latter persists in continuing the incident by the use or threatened imminent use of unlawful physical force;  or (c) The physical force involved is the product of a combat by agreement not specifically authorized by law. 2. A person may not use deadly physical force upon another person under circumstances specified in subdivision one unless: (a) The actor reasonably believes that such other person is using or about to use deadly physical force.  Even in such case, however, the actor may not use deadly physical force if he or she knows that with complete personal safety, to oneself and others he or she may avoid the necessity of so doing by retreating;  except that the actor is under no duty to retreat if he or she is: (i) in his or her dwelling and not the initial aggressor;  or (ii) a police officer or peace officer or a person assisting a police officer or a peace officer at the latter's direction, acting pursuant to section 35.30;  or (b) He or she reasonably believes that such other person is committing or attempting to commit a kidnapping, forcible rape, forcible criminal sexual act or robbery;  or (c) He or she reasonably believes that such other person is committing or attempting to commit a burglary, and the circumstances are such that the use of deadly physical force is authorized by subdivision three of section 35.20. so in summation at least in regards to NY state law (once you let me know the state this attorney practices, i can confirm that law as well), you cannot kill someone except when your life is in imminent danger assuming you did not provoke the attack, was not the initial aggressor (first to threaten or enact lethal bodily harm), were not partaking in a product of combat that is illegal (so illegal bare knuckle boxing).

  26. This makes me happy. I know pretty much everybody is angsting about when Stormlight 3 is going to be released, and I think it's great to have a definite measure laid down that shows how good Brandon has been to us, his fans. Kudos to you for gathering all this info and doing the math!

  35. If that is the case, then she will feature heavily in Dragonsteel, albeit not as heavily as the main 16 and Hoid. In which case, she is definitely RAFO bait.

  37. Brandon has confirmed that that is not a moment of divine inspiration, rather Straff had Elend take fighting lessons in his youth, and this was a piece of advice that floated back from then. I'll try to find the explicit quote.

  38. Night 7: The End of Days The end is near. I can sense it. I can feel it, like a whisper in my ear. The ancient god is upon the eve of his ascension. Destruction will come to us all. Straw stood beside a mound of corpses inside the walls of Luthadel, fires burning around him, contemplating the end of days. He’d had a good run, as a soldier in Ashweather Cett’s faction. With some help from the servants of Ruin and the other factions, they’d managed to completely obliterate Straff Venture’s forces, and they had now breached Luthadel’s walls, allowing them to raze a small portion of the Ashwarrens to the ground. However, many of his good friends had died in the process, and Ruin’s servants were still at large. Straw put a hand to his head, dropping his sword to the ground. How could they possibly win? Even if they captured Luthadel, Ruin would only grow stronger. There could be no stopping him. No stopping the inevitable. One of Straw’s men walked up to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Is everything alright, Commander?” “Kill me,” Straw wept. The man took a step back. “Sir, I don’t think I can do that.” “That’s an order!” Straw yelled. “But… on the verge of our victory? We still have a considerable force of men, and we’re the first to take the city. We’re going to win! We’ll--” “I… don’t… care,” Straw said, his voice quivering with every word. “We can do nothing to stop the inevitable.” “Sir, what are you talking about?” Straw just shook his head, then slumped to the ground. “Nothing.” Straw took a shuddering breath, then rolled onto his side. “Sir, get up, there are still some archers around here. You’re in danger.” “That’s the idea.” “Sir, I have to… I can’t just…” “Leave me.” “But-” “Leave me.” The man frowned, then sighed, leaving Straw to his fate. - - - - - Straw (Straw) was lynched! He was a non-Allomancer from Cett. Vote Tally Straw (3): Alvron, Araris Valerian, Conquestor Nyali (1): zas678 Night 7 begins now and will end in 47 hours and 34 minutes. Good luck!

  39. Hmm, wasn't the problem with the reod that the chasm line caused elantris to disconnect from the cognitive realm? Supposedly all the dor was still sitting up there, and maybe the Ire had figured out a way to use it without aons once they were in the cognitive realm . . . As for wanting to help their fellow elantrians, maybe they are a different faction. I imagine that pre reod elantrian society was fairly political, perhaps they were availing themselves of an opportunity to eliminate some rivals . . . Of couse all of this is rampant speculation, they just seem kind of sinister to me. in any case here is a WoB Doesn't exactly answer the question, but still I am leaning toward them being pre-reod

  41. Ash falls from the sky. A city where people move with downcast heads and empty expressions while the nobles feast. A young urchin girl in an alley, dirty, blackened. Watching. 'When you're alone... No one can betray you.' Flashes of her in the thieving crew, her brother betraying her, camon viciously slapping her. “I... I can make luck. I can influence people into becoming less angry. Less dangerous” Her inside a Tavern, camon about to hit her again. She raising her hand as a silent pulse hits Camon. He slows for an infinite moment, grows furious again and charges her. BANG The door bursts open and camon is flung across the room. The girl, looking up hesitantly. Kelsier extends a hand. “Who are you? What do you want with me?” “You're a very special person, Vin. You're Mistborn.” Vin frowns. “What's a mistborn?” Kelsier smiles. A rapid fire sequence of shots as Kelsier dry voice speaks. "None shall live" by Two steps from hell plays. "it means you have powers, Vin. " “Steel pushing… Iron pulling” Kelsier vaults across a room, a single ingot zipping around him, slamming into hazekillers, The blue lines spraying around a room. “Playing with emotions” Emotional allomancy is portrayed as a half invisible wave passing over a crowd. Breeze smiles as a room quiets down. An inquisitor riots a crowd into an uproar. “Enhanced senses… enhanced strength.” Spook raises his head as he hears footsteps far away. Ham takes down three guards with surprising speed. “You can even hide your allomancy... “ Clubs, weaving an intangible cloud around around the hideout. Some inquisitors pass. Quietly. His voices catches. “And discover it.” Mare, Kelsier and Redd in kredik Shaw. Redd trying to weave a coppercloud and failing. Their faces blanch with fear as Inquisitors arrive. “Aaaand a bit extra ” Kelsier holds up the Eleventh metal “You've entered a whole new world, Vin.” BASS DROP Leaping across rooftops. Vin laughs as she soars through the mists, cloak flapping. Kelsier vaults into a hall, glass knife extended. Vin entering a ballroom, gaping around her in wonder. Elend looking up from a book. Kelsier shouting to a crowd of skaa, scarred arms raised. Sazed smiling warmly at Vin. The crew training Vin to use her powers. Vin running from Inquisitors. Vin gaping as skaa are bloodily executed in a square. Kelsier screaming “SURVIVE!” FADE TO BLACK (like the one in the civil war trailer) Vins’ voice. “You haven't told me. What do you want me for?” Ash falling. Kredik Shaw looming. The Lord Ruler watching a slaughter of skaa, draped in black and white. Twelve Steel Inquistors stand around him. A firelit room. Kelsier gesturing at a blackboard with the steps from the book. He grins at Vin. “Vin. How would you like to help overthrow a God King?” Fade to Black MISTBORN :THE FINAL EMPIRE Kelsier’s voice “There's always another secret.”

  42. I think I just found (almost) proof against the 'Nale hunts only Edgedancers' theory. I read the Newsletter Lift story again for clues what made them 'huntworthy', and instead found this: Wyndle doesn't sound like he's one of many of his kind who were sent. I rather get the impression he was the only one; there may have been a few. But so many that Nale could 'kill his way across Roshar'? Well, maybe some spren have been 'host-hopping' after a murder. But still, it doesn't seem to fit.

Given we don't know when Honour died exactly, especially in regards to the Recreance, it's hard to say what effects taking up and dispersing a Shard's power does, let alone a spren with a presumably already defined personality possibly absorbing traits from another

  47. My favourite character is actually Elokhar (yes, really), but in lieu of his absence, I guess Elend. There's just... something about him that I really like. Maybe the fact that he brings forbidden books to read at a formal party. Favourite magic system: definitely allomancy. The most internally consistent, logical and flat-out scientific magic system I've ever seen, and one that somehow manages to still surprise us while remaining within reason. Favourite work: Stormlight Archive. I have to admit, I've read Elantris right after Words of Radiance, and the difference is downright staggering. ...and yeah, Wax's absence is rather odd. All protagonists of Brandon's works are there, and yet he isn't, as aren't Wayne and MeLaan, who seem to have a pretty sizeable fandom, as far as I've seen.

  48. So if you see two distinctly different men with the same name some time later on opposite sides of the continent, do you think they're the same person? Probably not. Take the name Herbert for example. Say I had never heard the name Herbert until the day my new coach driver introduced himself. Then later, I am bothered by a random beggar who bears no real physical resemblance to my old coach driver, but says his name is Herbert. My mind will most naturally attribute this to two different people with the same name due to context and subconscious logic, even if I wasn't familiar with the name to begin with.
