  1. Hey guys, I've been skimming over the associations between the 4 developing Knights Radiant we've seen (including the one from the WoR interlude) and the Heralds. It makes sense that they seem to have matching character attributes (e.g. Kaladin clearly has Jezrien's "Divine Attributes" of protecting/leading), but I noticed that all 4 Knights also match the genders of their respective Heralds. I want to throw a few ideas around for discussion: Brandon's mentioned that we've met multiple Heralds already, beyond the opening chapter in WoK. Is it possible that there's some reincarnation or amnesia element that could make one of our main characters an actual Herald without us knowing? If this gender aspect is, in fact, not just by chance, it opens the way for new guesses on people who could develop into Radiants. Note that there can only be one new female character that becomes a Knight (since we've got 3 female Radiants already out of the 4 female Heralds), and that person would have to match the attributes of Chach (bravery/obedience) I haven't seen anything that completely nails down the mechanics of how spren are involved in the evolution of a Radiant, but does it matter that Syl is female while Kaladin is male?

  2. I can't do anything but pale for Kasyl/Syladin. Kaladin<>Syl is the way to go. Definitely not a romantic sort of relationship for me. (Also, it appears that the tumblr fandom was mostly unaware that I had posted this... until Peter tweeted about Megan's liveblogs. Cue entire fandom freaking out...)

  3. I hate to put a damper on this discussion, but I think this interview from Brandon in December 2010 might clear things up: You can find it at: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/446239-q-a-with-brandon-sanderson-way-of-kings

  4. Hey, the fun in these ships right now is all in the potential! Neither of the camps has had any canon interaction thus far, so it's all just speculation and theories (which, as we all know, everyone loves a good theory.) Hopefully that will change with WoR, but until then, just got to be patient. For those interested in seeing the beginnings of how I imagine the Shallarin ship possibly going, I've got a fic going on for it. /shamelessly self-promotes own writing. (Also, yes. I pretty much upvote all the Shallarin posts, whoops.)

  5. This post will contain spoilers for 'Shattered State', the MAG game I am narrating. So if tec or anyone else is online, please do not read this, or any responses to my response. Claincy, you can feel free, just don't tell them anything. To be honest, I would assume that the Southerners were placed underground. My key clue was that Brandon said they survived when the sun was moved to their side of the planet... that led me to thinking they were placed in a subterranean cavern, along with a food source which could be grown underground (similar to Kandra food). (Basically, while the North languishes under Rashek, the South gets a thousand years of Minecraft). As for the mechanical way of using the Metallic Arts... we know that Hemalurgy was part of the pre-Empire culture, and everything you're saying about charging an object with Allomantic or Feruchemic power puts me in mind of spikes. Perhaps the key is to give machines a way of interfacing with spikes? It would certainly solve the "influenced by Ruin" problems of Hemalurgy... do machines have souls or minds? I'm thinking the "mechanical" use of the Metallic Arts could be... "safe" Hemalurgy. Mistfabrials as Hemalurgic spikes would certainly be consistent with your reasoning that it would be easily explained, and fit with what we know.

  6. There was never any difficulty of interpreting the idea behind the Steelhunt, because we talked to Brandon about it around a month before it went live. When we talked, it was made clear that the intent was definitely "PM and ask, and you'll receive", not "beg openly, and count on the generosity of others". Just for clarity’s sake, the card itself even states: "Feel free to share with Friends and Family." Now, friends are those who would probably know that you've obtained a code, or even people who instantly come to mind when you think of the site. Family, hopefully explains itself. "However, we ask that you NOT post your code public online." Well, no confusion there. "Sending it to individuals by direct message is fine, but if you post it openly on forums, Twitter, Facebook, or the like, we might have to deactivate it to preserve the fun of the hunt." Now, especially that last bit, to me sounds like "don’t go sharing with anyone and everyone." Regardless, a judgement call was made, and we’re sticking by it. We really are trying to keep in line with Team Sanderson's wishes, and it's pretty clear how requests for codes should be channeled: through PM. The restrictions stay. (Also, remember that we will have our Shardhunt up very shortly, so in a couple days, things will open up quite a lot when there's more easy access to a code.)

  7. (It's been a while since I've made a theory. I hope you like this one.) You know, I don't think there's ever been a theory about how the people on the southern continent of Scadrial--which I'll now call Southern Scadrians for simplicity--have their magic. If you had forgotten, the Southern Scadrians do have access to the Metallic Arts, despite there being no lerasium in their bloodlines. In fact, it is a totally different way of access the Metallic Arts than in the northern continent. Instead of it being genetic, it is technological. For a long time, I twisted my head around, utterly baffled at how something like this could work with the Metallic Arts. After all, the hereditary nature of Allomancy and Feruchemy is rather critical. Some people I think mentioned god metals, but they definitely don't have access to either lerasium or atium on the southern continent. So... what the crap. An idea popped into my head last week. And then this quote came about, which supported this idea: Hmmm. Highstorms--and presumably Stormlight--are related to the mists. I am not going to delve into a big discussion on what this quote means, but... well. Where have we seen magical technology? Roshar, in the forms of fabrials. They simulate abilities Surgebinders had. If Stormlight and highstorms are like the mists, then is it not incredibly reasonable to suppose there was some sort of equivalent of fabrials that could be constructed on Scadrial? A way for these Southern Scadrians to harness the Metallic Arts in a technological way, but in a way that we've seen before? On Roshar, fabrials work because you infuse a gemstone with Stormlight, and then you need to trap a specific spren inside of it. Well, then on Scadrial, you'd have metal and maybe one can Invest it with mists somehow. I have no idea what a Scadrian equivalent of a spren is, but if it is possible to Invest mists into metal, then I think we have it figured out. Set a certain piece of metal out in the mists in night, and through some unknown process, get it Invested. Mist fabrials, baby. Somehow, this makes such intuitive sense to me that it seems obvious. In the second Mistborn trilogy, society in Elendel will have already encountered the Southern Scadrians, and by association, their tech. That signals to me that in the second Mistborn trilogy we will have this type of technology at our disposal, and it needs to not seem totally insane and bizarre to readers of the first trilogy. "Well," random Scadrian can say, "legend says Allomancy came from the mists, so of course you just get a bit of mist in this and get some type of Allomancy." It's an explanation a random character can say that really does seem to make sense in an early chapter, and fits with the theme of Scadrial discovering all sorts of new technology for this more modern trilogy. Am I totally insane or does this seem like the most logical thing that the technology could be? I imagine the type of metal the mists are Invested in makes a difference to what ability the mist fabrial simulates. Since there are two types of mist now (one of Preservation and one of Ruin), then maybe you need to Invest some of both to get Allomancy and Feruchemy. And, so the genetic Allomancers and Feruchemists aren't useless, the mist fabrials are surely of a lot more limited use than general Allomancy. I mean, think about Allomancy compared with other magic systems. An Allomancer has it pretty easy when it comes to getting his powers: eat some metal. Here, the mist fabrials probably drain mist faster than a casual Allomancer would, and if it runs out, it isn't as if you can just down another vial. That seems pretty balanced to me. That said, I have no idea how Feruchemy would operate. I also imagine you would not be able to Compound. These mist fabrials are limited things. Now, I'll admit I have absolutely no idea how one would Invest mist in metal, and how northern Scadrians hadn't figured it out. There's a key component missing in the process that I have no idea about. And then there's the Scadrian equivalent of spren. How does that work? I don't know. Maybe that right there is the trickiest part. But I cannot help but think that this can be the only possible way for there to be a technological way to harness the Metallic Arts. It has to be this, somehow. I got this idea a few days ago, and since there was a signing yesterday, it occurred to me that here was something that was very, very easy to test with the simple question, "Is there a method to Invest a piece of metal with mists, similar to how gemstones can be Invested with Stormlight?" So I had Josh ask it for me. I am waiting with baited breath for the answer. Also, as an aside, there is an annotation that suggested the Lord Ruler put people on the southern pole as a reserve, in case his genetic modifications failed. So, if mist fabrials were the method that the Lord Ruler gave these people to survive down there. Sooo, I figured if Brandon said yes to the previous question, I'd ask if the Lord Ruler knew of this method and used it. (He certainly wears enough metal to make it useful, don't you think?) So we'll wait on confirmation on that. Right now, what do you think?

  8. Hey (again), folks! I just came back from the http://brandonsanderson.com/upcoming-events/#860'>Wheeling signing in the Chicago area, and it was pretty wonderful. Better than the Naperville one a few days ago. Brandon started off with a little off-the-record kind of chat during which he talked about a number of random things, including but not limited to how he once got lost driving to a signing (which is why they now drive him around), and how he was not actually Brandon Sanderson, but a bot. Mark XVII, if you are curious. With the preliminaries done, Brandon talked about what inspired him to write Steelheart. The story was published on his official website a couple of weeks ago, I think, but I can't find it quickly for some reason... Anyway, once that was done, he answered a few questions he gets on every signing (questions about his favorite books, favorite characters, what got him into fantasy/writing, which of his books have sequels in the near future, etc). He then did three readings from upcoming books (Eshonai's viewpoint chapter from Words of Radiance, Wax and Steris' wedding planning from Shadows of Self, and Stephen's date with Silvia from Legion II), separated by general Q&A sessions. He did the signing and personalization of books after that and answered a few questions. And then I interrogated him... So here's what I (and 1-2 other people) asked. My questions come mostly from the http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/383-the-ultimate-list-of-questions-for-brandon/'>Ultimate List, similarly to the first Chicago signing. --- From the general signing Q&A --- Q: Pat Rothfuss recently worked with the folks from http://goo.gl/8vwi1c'>Albino Dragon to create a Kickstarted Name of the Wind deck of cards in which each face card features a character from the book. All those designs were discussed with Pat, and the final result is shaping up to be pretty spectacular. Are there plans, or if not - are you open to planning, - to do something like this for one or more of your own worlds? A: I know about Pat's deck, it's really awesome stuff! I can only say that I do have plans to do something similar, but you will have to wait for Words of Radiance to find out more about it. [At least that's what I think he said. This was my question, so I didn't think to record it, and frankly 10 seconds after he was done talking, I realized all I remembered was "yes" and "Words of Radiance"...] Q: Anything you can tell us about Steelheart's sequel, Firefight? A: It starts off in Chicago, but then moves to New York. It will show off an... interesting version of Manhattan, similarly to how Steelheart's showed off an interesting version of Chicago. It will also introduce three new Epics. Q: Was Hemalurgy inspired by your time in Asia, and more specifically - acupuncture? A: Yes. A lot of the stuff in my books that looks like it came from Asia really did come from my time there. [This relates to something Brandon said in the previous Chicago signing - that the drawing on the front sheet of the Way of Kings, the one with surges and Knight Radiant orders was inspired by the Kabbalah ] Q: Was Calamity and its appearance in Steelheart just kind of an ad hoc? We know that it showed up about a year before the Epics started showing up, so people naturally assume one was the cause and one was the effect, but was that really the case and are both of them just the effects of something else? A: Good question! I will say that this is something I've done before, so my fans will kind of expect it. I am aware of this expectation too, and I am careful about repeating myself. [He didn't actually say "yes" or "no" here, just kind of danced around the question] --- From my "Preliminary questions" thread --- Q: Feruchemy is the “balance” between Ruin and Preservation. Would any combination of Shards create a “balance” magic, so to speak, or are only certain Shards compatible? A: [Heavily paraphrased:] Feruchemy ended up being a balance system, because of how polar Ruin and Preservation were. Any world with at least two Shards will result in a similar phenomenon. Q: Like Roshar? A: Like Roshar. There is something like that going on there. Q: Aside from the Greater Roshar system, are there any other multiple shardworld systems? A: Yes. You have not necessarily seen them though. Q: How do you spell "Lyss" the woman Jasnah meets with in the WoR prologue? A: Not sure, but I think it's Lyss. --- From the Ultimate List --- Q: Could a Seeker who was properly trained and experienced detect AonDor or Awakening? Similarly, does a Coppercloud block an Awakener's life sense? A: A Seeker could sense somebody else using magic not native Scadrial. RAFO on the Coppercloud blocking similar magic. Q: If Ati had somehow managed to give up Ruin and returned to being a regular person, would his mind have gradually reverted from its corruption by Ruin’s intent, or would he always be determined to destroy? A: Over time Ruin's influence would fade, but Ati would remain a Sliver, so there would be some permanent effects. Q: Do the Spiritual and Physical Realms have names, like Shadesmar is the Cognitive Realm? A: Kind of, but not really. Shadesmar is just a rough translation of "Cognitive Realm" in the language of whoever first found out about it. Other people, planets, and worlds wouldn't call it Shadesmar - they would call it whatever their words for "Cognitive Realm" are. This applies to the Physical and Spiritual as well. Q: Are all of the Heralds who gave up their Honorblades still alive? A: Good question! RAFO. Q: Are Renarin and Adolin Dalinar's legitimate children? A: Good question! Yes, they are both legitimate. Though Renarin didn't get as much of the hair, which is probably what people are asking about. Q: Fabrials replicate Soulcasting abilities. Is it possible for fabrials to replicate all such Surgebinding abilities? A: Yes, good question! Fabrials can replicate all of the Surgebinding abilities. Q: If a Dhakor (Dilaf) could erase a symbol written by an Elantrian (Raoden), could an Elantrian erase/heal a Dhakor bone-symbol? A: This is a theoretical possibility, but not a specialization of AonDor. Q: Is there any other canonical way to refer to a set of Shardplate and a Shardblade other than Shards, so as to not confuse them with the Shards of Andonalsium? A: They call them just Shard(s). It is a little confusing, because there are other Shards, but they don't know about them. I call them a set, but there is no canonical way to refer to them. Q: Is Cultivation's Shardholder still alive. A: Good question, what do you think? Q: I want to say, but that's based on my knowledge before I read Lift's interlude from Words of Radiance. Now I am leaning towards no. Based on that interlude, it looks like spren have essence from both Honor and Cultivation. It's almost like they exist in a spectrum, on one end of which is Honor, and on the other - Cultivation; so there are spren that are, for the lack of better example, 90% Honor and 10% Cultivation, and there are spren that are 15% Honor and 85% Cultivation. A: That's a very astute observation! Q: And since we know that Honor is Splintered, then it might be the case that Cultivation is also Splintered, and their Splinters form the spren. Q: Are Honorspren Splinters, or do they hold Splinters? A: Honorspren would be termed Splinters. Q: What is Stormlight? A: I don't want to answer this, but I'll just say "Investiture." Q: Did David get Steelheart's absolutely correct, or was it just close enough to allow him to destroy Steelheart? A: It was absolutely correct. This is something David and Reckoners will actually discuss in Firefight. The second book will reveal much more about the Epics' weaknesses, and you will find out that there is actually a pattern to them, even though everyone thinks it's random. Q: Are weaknesses somehow related to things, events, or phenomena the Epics feared, or hated, or disliked before they turned Epic? A: RAFO, second book. This is the exact question people - and David - are asking in the second book. Good question though. Q: Are there still no Splinters on Scadrial, after the events of the Alloy of Law? A: Yes, there are no Splinters on Scadrial. Unless they've been brought. [several people cried out "Hoid!"] There are no Splinters of Ruin or Preservation. Q: Does Nightblood need to sleep? A: (Laughs) Nightblood does not need to sleep, but he sure thinks he needs to. Q: Will Llarimar become Susebron's high priest? A: I would not be surprised of the events too him there. Q: Do you think he would be unhappy with the position? A: No. Susebron is going to make at least, if not a good God King, then at least an earnest one, and Llarimar would approve of that. Q: What command would you have to give to an Awakened object like Nightblood in order for it to not go insane? A: I am going to RAFO that about Nightblood, but - is Nightblood insane? It just has no concept of... It was commanded to do something it was not equipped to judge. I would not call Nightblood insane. I would say that you have commanded something with no concept of morality to make moral decisions, and that's very confusing to him. Q: Ashe says to Sarene "your god" (emphasis added). Do Seons (and Skaze) have a religion/god? A: They have an inkling of the nature of their original Shards, which they would consider their gods. Q: Kind of like a first, a prime, a parent? A: Yes. They kind of know what happened that created them, and they also know this is not the god being worshipped (by Sarene), so... I once again feel like I could've asked better questions, but even after going through the entire list, those are the ones I found most likely to not be RAFO'd, while still getting us some meaningful answers. Maybe, maybe not. At the time I was too busy being a fanboy.

  9. Recently, one of our tumblr members, tinandpewterstrength, finished Way of Kings and issued an open call for anyone with ships (aka, those of us who see good potential for relationships between characters) to try to convince her which characters she should be shipping. Pretty much, she's looking at me - the captain of the Shallarin (Shallan/Renarin) camp, and Kogiopsis - the leader of the Kalarin (Kaladin/Renarin) camp. What started as a simple pair of opposing arguments has blossomed into some incredibly rich character and motivation analysis about all three of these characters involved. While I know that most of the theorizing here tends to be Realmatic, I figured perhaps there are some literary analysts like myself who might enjoy reading some theories that have to do with character development and narrative arcs instead! Or you know, those just curious what the other side of the fandom devotes their time and energy to. Kogiopsis recently created a wonderful guide to this back and forth of analyses, so I'm going to use her post to adapt. Pretty much of the credit for this organization and posting of this goes to her! It's a lot to read, but it's good stuff! The analyses at the beginning are mostly just about shipping, but as the discussion goes on, it becomes more and more pure character analysis (which is super awesome). Cosmere fandom is still the best fandom. Megan, the original prompter of all this essay writing, eventually responds to the posting of this guide, here: Now, that's a lot of writing for anyone to sift through, so good luck and congrats to anyone who looks through it! However, I know there were some who were interested in stuff like this and didn't realize that our fandom had a side like this. So, I wanted to at least make people aware that things like this are being written out there! For the more literary types like me, this is the kind of thing I love, and if it were happening elsewhere, I know I'd want to know! I hope you all enjoy this look at what the tumblr fandon's been up to!

  10. Eh... I see the direction of your thoughts much better now, but they still feel weird to me. I am sorry, I can't explain it. What I could support is seeing a Surgebinder go out during a highstorm and pull a Vin. When Szeth inhales too much Stormlight, he talks - or thinks, rather - about feeling like it would burst through him, but never does he mention that he can't take more. The feeling he describes sounds different from, say, the feeling you get when you eat too much. In this rather mundane case, you feel like you just can't take another bite. With Szeth I feel like he could easily inhale even more Stormlight, but he prudently decides not to, since meeting an exploding end is not high on his Christmas list. Thinking about it this way, it feels more natural for people to be able to choose to burn away their Physical form by taking in too much Investiture. That still leaves their Cognitive and Spiritual aspects to wield the power - this is a recipe for gods, I think. With objects it's probably different. Objects, for the most part, don't have strong presence in all three realms. Physical, obviously yes. Cognitive, probably also yes (as you can access Shadesmar and change how objects "view" themselves, thereby turning them into other objects; this is the good ol' Soulcasting). The Spiritual Realm, however... Shai claims that all things exist in all three realms, but I don't know if even an Invested object will have a strong Spiritual presence. This being said, I think I may have argued myself into a corner... I'll revisit this with a fresher mind.

  11. I have a memory that Brandon said that a Shardblade can kill a spren. My research while checking yielded the below quotes, so I assume my memory is wrong. I assume the earlier Knights Radiant had spren and they had Shardblades, so I think Syl's antipathy is based on something that is different about Dalinar's blade. Interview: Sep 22nd, 2012 Orem Signing Report - Zas (Verbatim) and from here:

  12. I've always believed most of that as well Gloom. I also have wondered if there aren't blades designed for each order. For example we get blades described as looking like waves, and fire, blades with glowing glyphs. I agree that something changed when the blades were abandoned, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Syl reacts less harshly to a blade that's more designed for Windrunners. I'd love to find out that Radiants and their spren have unique ways of bonding with their blades that could "fix" them. Of course there's other possibilities, such as blades being somehow corrupted and the new radiants will need to rediscover how to create them rather than reclaim existing blades.

  13. While you're at it, why not give them one additional spike to make them a Compounder with an extra kick? Like, an Allomantic pewter/Feruchemical gold twinborn, spike him with Feruchemical pewter, spike him with four spikes to make him Koloss, and watch him rip apart mountains?

  14. Actually, considering the effect a Shardblade has on a living creature, I tend to think they go to the spiritual realm. I personally believe that when they Knights Radiant discarded their Shards, that the Blades changed. I don't believe that the Blades are meant to be carried by anyone except the Knight Radiant that created/summoned the blade into existence. Once they were discarded they lost something vital. I think spren see and react to Shards in their current form in a way similar to how a person would react to a zombie. The information about Lift isn't included in the information generally available about that interlude. Please don't post SH info. It is currently not allowed in these forums. You can find what information is generally available in the Readings section of the WoR subfolder. We have word of Brandon that Szeth is without a spren. We also have a RAFO on weather or not a Shardblade can kill a spren, so it's likely they can.

  18. It might, it might be happenstance, or it might be that way for an entirely different reason. From the brief reading of the Lift interlude which Brandon had read, her spren can be assumed to be male. Wyndle didn't strike me as particularly feminine. Shallans cryptic seemed rather sexless, but could be male as well.

  21. @lord_Ffnord misspelled the name, @cem - he typed "haemalurgy" instead of Hemalurgy. Brandon likely took the "Hema" part of "Hemalurgy" from "hema" / "haema" (the latter being British), which is derived from "hemato" or "of blood." I assume our lord_Ffnord up there is not American, so every time he reads "Hemalurgy," it's itching him to turn that into "Haemalurgy" Linguistics aside, I'll admit that Hallandren sounds similar, but there is one very significant difference. Being a Drab doesn't mess up your sDNA nearly as much as Hemalurgy does - I am not even sure giving up your Breath affects your sDNA at all. Hemalurgy literally rips your soul apart, and as far as we know the damage is irreparable. On Nalthis, even if you've been a Drab (almost) your entire life, you can still buy a Breath and go back to "normal." That, I think, makes all the difference in the world.

  22. Yes I'm in the Shallarin camp but I don't feel that lack of masculinity are in anyway related to Renarins character but rather he suffers from a "lack of sense of worth in himself" which is somewhat justified seeing as he are incapable of contributing in anyway that he are allowed to. I have a dear friend who suffers from emotionally triggered epilepsy and a brother who's a high functional autist , a combination of afflictions that i fell fit well on Renarin, and neither of those suffers from any lack of masculinity (imaged or real) but both suffers from feeling that they aren't good enough which is stupid since they both can chose a path where they won't be hindered and, in the case of my brother, really excel! Those that I've meet that lacked in masculinity never were the quite, thinking kids, no they were the loud trouble makers who tried to re compensate with a stereotypical boyish behavior, a behavior that often carried over into adulthood. This is how I would imagine it. Shallan will gravitate towards Renarin in the beginning because he reminds her of her brothers partly from the lack of self worth and partly from his internal pain and Renarin are pleasantly surprised that this new exciting girl prefers him over his perfect brother. As time progress Shallan will start to appreciate him for his keen mind and gentle soul, while Renarin will act as a guide for the new Alethi capital and it's society ( from which he will derive some self value, however small) and he will start to appreciate her for her quick wit and her acceptance of his problems. The next great step for the two will require a catalyst and so, enter Szeth, or another catastrophe. Shallan will be put in a situation where she will choose to reveal her shameful secret in order to protect herself and those around her. Shallans reveal will be the cataclysm that allow Renarin to eventually choose to forgo Vorin gender roles and forge his own path. This is the first ship I've ever taken any part of and see what you have done to me! Here I sit making things up out of thin air without even faux science to back my claims.

  24. Well, I haven't seen any indication that people have been stingy with their codes. I have offered my code to many people and so far, each one already had a code. I haven't seen any indications of clique-ishness. I hope that people have not been withholding their codes from others. That would indeed be a shame. I was gifted with someone else's code about two weeks in. That code, I did not give out because it was not mine to give, as it were. So, I aimed to get a code at the Seattle signing 1) so I could get the postcard to have (because it's cool); and 2) so that I would have a code which I could feel comfortable distributing to online friends and people who made posts that I thought were good. And for the record, I have no problem with people PMing me and asking for a code. My point is, that putting a general request out to the community at large in an open post is tantamount to simply posting the code itself. If you want a code and would like to ask for it, fine, ask. But, ask an individual rather than the community. I personally don't interpret a general request to be within the spirit of the hunt. Please remember, this is supposed to be a game of sorts which plays itself out over time rather than an info dump. Journey before destination, if you will. If everyone was supposed to get a code right away, it would have been designed differently. If everyone who is interested gets a code right away, with the way it has been set up, then we won't see people striving to get and enter unique codes which will unlock further portions of the reward and the Steelhunt will fizzle out before it is done. Give the game time pto play out. It is certainly not worth getting upset or offended over. It is a game and, at the very least, after the game is done, the prize will be freely distributed to everyone. Nothing is being withheld from people. No one will be excluded from the information. Please, try to enjoy the game for what it was designed to be.

  25. It seems like it has worked out well in the long run. It appears that most everyone who is fairly active here has a code. I am sure that there are those out there who desire a code still. But, I have approached a few people in order to share my code and everyone I talked to already had one. I agree with Rainbow that it rapidly turned into a beggars banquet of sorts. I think code requests could be handled much better than a post saying 'please give me a code'. Surely most of us are clever enough express that we desire a code without directly asking for one from the general populus.

  26. Hehe, you deserve all the exclamation marks I can give! And I think I'm going to talk to Botanica as well. She's always been so wonderful and I think she'd be on board with helping us out. (Though with all she does for the Chinese Cosmere fandom, she may not have time to do much.) I think I may put out a call for artists on Adonalsium, though we'll see what kind of response we get there.

  27. It is likely because much of those chapters took place at the Palanaeum which was named after Palah.

  30. Ok here is my table on Google Drive. WARNING STEEL HUNT SPOILERS though tbh by now all the info here is available elsewhere on the site. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlvnJhrTVOeKdDhtRHBod05HTjk4aElLeXpIN2RFU0E&usp=sharing enjoy. EDIT This is just my personal table that I keep updated. It contains basically an extended version of the Appendix to the Way of Kings, with all the Knights Radiant info gathered so far. Possible members of the orders are on the right.

  31. Great topic Sell During WoR we will see a multiple magic system battle (surges/feruchemy/mistborn/twinborn ect. I don't know which, but one of them will happen)

  33. One of the biggest things that built resentment between WoT books was that we'd collect prophecies from (say) books 1-5, then book 6 would come out and none of them were fulfilled. Then 7 would come out, and none of them were fulfilled. It's very frustrating. Brandon's said he thinks most mysteries should be resolved after a book or two, not go on and on, but I don't know if he's motivated by the same frustration I'm talking about, or if it's something else for him. I like to think he's enlightened to longer series meaning "more plot", not "same plot, but slower and in great detail". So Shallan should discover Syl as soon as she would in a 3-book series, and after that Brandon will go on to make up more cool new things. I hope!

  34. I met someone at the Provo library signing. You took the picture of the crowd and announced it was for this site. I rather creepily yelled out "YES!!!" which scared all my friends and everyone else in the first three rows. I wasn't registered here, but I called myself a professional lurker because I've been around from the very beginning. Since you were disappointed that I wasn't a site member and promised not to spike me I figured I would actually sign up here. Anyway, nice to finally join you crazy lot in an official capacity! About me: I've been a fan from the beginning! I grew up down the street from a member of the Sanderson family who shall remain unnamed (mostly so I sound less like a stalker, and also all that anonymity jazz). I picked up Elantris and Mistborn right when Mistborn came out, and have been an avid fan ever since. I convinced my high school's book club to read Elantris, and on a whim emailed Brandon about answering some of our questions or on the slimmest of chances visiting us in person to talk about the book. He actually came (which surprised everyone and made me a bit of a celebrity among my fellow nerds!) and I've been hooked on getting my friends to read his books ever since. When I'm not reading, I'm watching too many SF/F tv shows and movies, writing something of my own, playing with my cats, or explaining to people that I actually like studying chemistry. The rest is a secret, and you know what we say about secrets... -ProfessionalLurker

  35. Sounds like...fun? New dream job, right there! Where can I apply? Let the others have their lurching, I'm in it for the lurking! Glad to know who you are finally! And that you're the promise-keeping sort. (Could a Keeper store promises, do you suppose? That could be a fun metal to have around.) That is without a doubt the prettiest waffle I have ever seen.

  36. It'll come out after Alendi's unexpurgated Journal, before the Hoid Personal Diaries, and in a box set together with the Words of Founding. You can already pick up a Book of Endless Pages at your local office supply store.

  37. Sounds like it would make a very impressive form of armor. Not perfect, of course, but it would make one-on-one combat very difficult, and bullets much easier to dodge.
