From the album: Stormlight artworks 2023-2024
I present to you my favorite men from Rhythm of War (from left to right): Dabbid, Teft, Kaladin and Rock! Bridge Four artwork in progress~ p.s. Syl is the best girl So, a little background: I promised to draw a big art piece every month, but February flew by unnoticed (let alone half of spring lol) and I had this sketch lying around for a long time, simply no move from a dead point. Today I decided to work on it and this is what it turned out so far! Dabbid turned out to be very difficult because he has no official reference other than the description in the book, but I imagined him as a sad-eyed, slightly intimidated, but attractive young man (younger than Kaladin). His backstory brought me to tears and his moments in ROW are simply wonderful With Teft and Lunamor everything is easier, thanks Brotherwise!! I plan to add other characters (except Renarin and Moash). I hope you enjoy it & hope to finish it by the end of the month3 likes -

My point is that Hemalurgical strength boost is magical, it is done in a way that is similar to what is happening with F-Pewter, you directly add more of the attribute to your spiritweb. Some of the effects seen with Koloss can also be from the fact that they are Hemalurgic construct, not just humans with spikes. Or it is because their souls are more Invested, and as seen in TSM, more Invested soul typically grants physical improvements (greater strength, speed, reflexes). But there seems to be a general principle in Cosmere, where your baseline Physical state is your Spiritual Ideal filtered through Cognitive (but that has less of an effect). We see it in Feruchemy, F-Pewter has effect on your physical form. Similarly, healing works by aligning you to your spiritual self, if you change your spiritweb, you change the physical self (if you have Investiture). Singers change their spiritwebs by bonding spren, and that changes their physical forms rather drastically. Manipulating spiritweb can be used to effectively shapeshift or even grow wings (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/390/#e12722) I don't see why Hemalurgy should be except from this rather general effect, Spiritual change leads to Physical change. Spiritweb demands that Koloss is modified human with 4x the strength, and the body grows to accomodate. Sure, I am just saying that I think you won't be able to control the mutations to the extent you would want, and that there will be tradeoffs. Get more strength, become larger/bit disfigured and possibly dumber (if Koloss are any example). Get more senses, the sense organ in question enlarges/shifts/grows more numerous. You can get attribute upgrades from Hemalurgy, but there will be tradeoffs, it won't be simple direct upgrade without any cost (not including the fact you have to mutilate soul of someone else, unless they figure out programmable spikes). There is a reason we don't see anyone with attribute spikes who is not horribly mutated monster. Not in Era 1, or Era 2, or even the Scadrians in TSM, and I think the reason is that that it cannot be used safely, as per the limitation Sanderson outlined in the WoB I quoted.3 likes

I'm not sure I agree this idea. It's certainly possible, but I feel like it wouldn't really fit in with the "Immortal Glowing Knight" idea that still takes precedence in the Radiant story. I do believe that the Fifth Ideal grants access to a Ryshadium, one that is maybe faster or stronger than others. We already know that Ryshadium use spren, specifically musicspren. Perhaps, just like the other two Shards involve bonding spren (Radiant for the Blade and lesser spren for each piece of Plate) bonding a Ryshadium will have something to do with bonding the spren that lthe Ryshadium has. However, we can always trust Brandon to keep us on our toes! The Ultimate Archivist.2 likes

Returning to the concept of futuristic technomancy, I find this the perfect place to implement a theory of mine. @Trusk'our is already aware of this; we discussed the possibility of Awakened Primer Cubes. In considering this, we may find Cubes whose command had been altered; now when charged, they only push or pull on certain metals or emotions, or activate at certain times or under certain circumstances. I thought this was about the coolest idea that had crossed my mind. However, the earlier concerns are correct; Harmonium is scarce. Human attributes are not. If we focus on Feruchemical charges as power in an Awakened Metalmind, perhaps even more complicated machinery could be produced. Let's discuss! Also sorry if I missed something in the earlier conversations and you guys already talked about this. Trying to keep up; you guys are fast! The Ultimate Archivist2 likes

Gavinor is Elhokar's son. But yeah I've seen this theory before. What we know is that Odium is looking to make sure that no matter the outcome of the Contest, he will win. So forcing Dalinar to do something incredibly heinous like murdering an innocent child that he loves or let Odium win seems like a probable plan. Odium might even be able to convince Gavinor to do it since he's so young by offering Moash's life in exchange, since Gavinor wants revenge for Moash murdering his father. Gavinor could be tricked. Though how Odium would reach out to him when he's in Urithiru with the Suppression Fabrials on is a mystery. Maybe through Sja-Anat? Maybe Odium gets her full cooperation in this by promising a place for her and her children to live like she so desperately wants? But either way, I don't think Odium is going to be dumb enough to bet it all on a powerful champion against the Blackthorn, he'll pull something tricksy.2 likes

Writing in public is super awesome actually, because even if nobody cares what you're doing you can always trick your brain into thinking that they'll all start judging you if you start browsing Reddit or researching obscure grammar rules instead of actually writing.2 likes

I don't know exactly how common it is, but I know that it is a theory that Odium's Champion will be Gavinor (Elhokar's son). This would fit the the "climactic moment" as it would be in the contest of champions, and he is also a child.2 likes

Brandon's explored this concept before with Elantris. The Elantrians actually had to make laws so their post scarcity capabilities to create goods didn't outcompete the merchants' labor. It's definitely a concept he's thought about before with powers and industry. Two things I think should be considered are: Currently they have bigger worries with the apocalypse and depending on SA5's outcome, such concerns may not matter. The theoretical potential of Surges is bound by the practical and logistical limitations of skill, oath level, knowledge and group coordination. I will agree though that Roshar was never going to develop into an Earth analog. They just don't have the same conditions as we do. Even without the Bondsmiths, Roshar has a built-in massive source of renewable energy that acts as both fuel and light source. I'm not even sure they'll bother inventing electricity and implementing it on a mass scale. They already use Stormlight for heating fabrials so there's no need for electric or gas heaters, gems instead of lightbulbs, conjoiners/reversers for propulsion.1 like

I didn't understand the hype for this show at all for the longest time. Then my sisters were watching it and the salesman comes up and says something about saving more on the electric bill and in that moment I realized that bluey is the most relatable show on the planet.1 like

This is, as yet, unclear. The WoBs: can be thought to imply the possibility, especailly as they are compared to chasmfiends, which we know to have a Gemheart (Axehounds as well - See below) but since it is likely they are decended from Shin Horses (themselves descended from horses brough from Ashyn) it also seems unlikely. Afterall, herdazians and Horneaters are both half-breeds and neither race is known to have a gemheart adaptation. TLDR: There are hints that Ryshadium may have developed a gemheart; but there is not yet any confirmation for any "immigrant species" having developed a gemheart, including (potential) half-breeds like Rhyshadium (assuming parallels between their stone hooves and herdazian fingernails mean a similar "evolutionary" path).1 like

How did Kwaan know to write in metal? "I write these words in steel, for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted." This is how Kwaan begins his inscription in Well of Ascension. But we don't know how Kwaan came to realize that it is safe to write in metal. Kwaan figured out that something is changing the written history: "The alterations are slight. Clever, even. A word here, a slight twist there. But the words on the pages are different from the ones in my memory. The other Worldbringers scoff at me, for they have their metalminds to prove to them that the books and prophecies have not changed." From the changes he derived that this something want Alendi to set free the power at the Well of Ascension instead of the original, more vague task of the Hero of Ages to do something at the Well of Ascension. And then Kwaan jumps to the conclusion that this something is trapped in the Well of Ascenion But after the initial "anything not set in metal cannot be trusted", he never again mentions how he knows this. Kwaan has no knowledge that Shards see metal as glowing objects and therefore can't read whats written on metal. Kwaan only knows that metalminds aren't safe and that written words in books aren't safe. So why would he be throughly convinced of the fact that combining these methods by using written words on metal would be safe from changes?1 like

Friendly reminder cause I've been feelin it today. It will get better. It's hard now but will get better. For those of you who are Christian, Phillipians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." For those of you who are of other religious beliefs, sorry I don't know your scripture. You can also look at this next one. For those of you who are non-religious, the Pattern is balance. There will never be bad without good. Have a good day for me!1 like

Mmmmm, it's an interesting pattern. I was thinking about RoW and Kalak is a bit of a stretch, but what about Lift? She was not killed by Mraize, then later by Raboniel and other Fused and most importantly Moash didn't kill Lift when fighting with Teft. She is a child, Moash had an interest in threatening to kill and killing her - forcing Teft to fight him - that might be the continuation of the pattern you're looking for. However, sparing Lift actually achieved that goal. It's still a bit of a stretch in your context but at least she is a real child. RoW ch 104:1 like

I was reading about pure Atium's effects when I caught this on the Allomancy table; "Pure Atium grants the Allomancer an expansive vision of the future and enhances the mind's ability to accept, process, and hold information." This got me wondering, does pure Atium permanently expand the user's Cognitive Aspect a little to hold and use the information it gave, a little like Lerasium expands and adds Connection to the Spiritweb to use its power (or perhaps Atium's mind boost could be like a Sliver's)? I know there's no real way of checking right now, I just thought it an interesting thought. Edit: further building on this idea (instead of just going to bed and letting my overtaxed brain rest), could you learn about a specific skill set via Atium and gain a strong permanent edge to it? Maybe not a direct "skill" but get experience without experiencing something? Like, if you get a vision of swordplay, and you see lots of mistakes others make, could you essentially cheat and have this "experience" to instinctively not make such a mistake yourself?1 like
