  1. 1. Which (broad) form of government is the best?

    • Autocracy (monarchy, dictatorships, etc)
      1
    • Oligarchy (republic, parliament, etc)
      7
    • Democracy (rule by consensus)
      3
    • Anarchy (ultimate rule by the masses)
      0

I ask you, once again, to PLEASE not just smack "anarchy" because you think it's funny.

Dang it, foiled again.

I would like to point out that this is far from the only way to organize governmental structures, and completly ignores the philosophies powers, limits ideologies and so forth that the government has.

I don't think any of these particular systems is any "better" or more moral than the others, in many ways it doesn't matter how a goverment functions as much as what it's functions are.

Does that make sense?

I agree, but certain styles of government make it easier to get favorable functions.

That is a point I had not considered, thank you.

Looking at it exclusivly from this angle I'd have to argue for an "oligopoly" as Fadran put it(Which is a misuse of the term as it is a specific governmental structure unto itself) specifically a republic, as it enables the people to pressure and limit the government, while also not devolving into mob rule too quickly.

If you had a REALLY good person in charge, then I think a monarchy (with some other government offices, of course,) would be the best form of government. A true good ruler is going to do the same thing as a democracy, in making sure that the wants and needs of the people are met. A monarchy is also going to skip over all the arguing that happens in a government with multiple leaders, making it more efficient.

But since a perfect ruler is impossible, and good rulers are basically nonexistent, other forms of government work better practically.

I support population input, mixed with rule by the few(some form of republic). Thus it was hard to determine whether I should go with democracy or oligarchy, however, I decided that full populace input on every single matter is unfeasible for large populations, thus rule by the few is better in my view.
