Intro/Disclaimer - Read me first -

Spoiler

I'm putting this here because it doesn't really fit anywhere else on the forums?

I recently started a healthy lifestyle change program.  Part of keeping the program going is "to keep building up a culture of positive, supportive, and uplifting people in your life."  It's the twofer of having people cheer you on and having people you don't want to let down. While I have friends and family, I'm also looking to write and journal publicly.

There are diet/fitness forums I could use, but I'm pretty comfortable on the Shard.  I don't know how often it will update, but since the whole point is to be open and honest about the journey (good and bad days), hopefully it will be fairly regularly.

About me - Why?...

Spoiler

I used to be very active, did a lot of sports (swimming, tennis, running cross country).  Then I went to college and instead did a lot of eating and drinking and no exercising.  In the end, I left with a Masters degree and 50 extra lbs.  That was....10 ish years ago?  I haven't gained more weight since then, but I sure haven't lost any either.

What bothers me most, however, more than clothes that don't fit, is that by now I'm so freaking out of shape.  I like being active, I like hiking, I like rock climbing, I like adventuring in the wilderness....and I can't do them the way I am now.  I'm also finding myself on the sidelines instead of in activities.  And as someone who struggles with loneliness, the idea of being sidelined by friends is absolutely terrifying.

So I'm setting out to change myself and the way I live.

Goals and Plans (as of 2/13/20)

Spoiler
  • Strength training 3x a week
    • after puppy goes to bed, she's a lunatic and thinks that pushups are a great time to jump on me)
  • Work lunches prepped by Saturday night, week's dinners planned and bought by Sunday night
  • Drink a glass of water every day
    • taking my Stormlight decal Nalgene to work - Life before death, drink before dehydration
  • Go to sleep by 10pm every night
    • well....turn the lights off and get in bed anyway.  Try not to stare at the ceiling and contemplate life for an hour
  • Limit computer access
    • Video games/youtube only in the morning before work.  Sets a hard cut off time so I don't binge
    • If I'm not using using for ^ or work, it gets completely turned off so I'm not tempted.

Here's hoping to successfully check back in about a week.
