  1. I actually felt it was the opposite way around - I was okay with it in Tress because of the Princess Bride conceit, but disliked it in Yumi. Agreed with you wrt the storytelling segments in Stormlight though!
  2. Four books left to the goal Hael and I set. Just finished: -Yumi I think I'll like it better the second time around. Hoid narrating is tiresome (back to my problems with Sanderson and banter) and Yumi had to grow on me but really enjoyed Kilahito as a setting. That Sanderlanche was insanely good though. -The Winter Road I have not in a while read a book I should love but really hated and only read because I wanted to see the protagonist suffer. Strong character voice, fascinating setting, protagonist who has Issues but I'm told to root for without the author ever doing the damn work to make me want to. Currently reading: -The Winged Histories (re-read) -Heretics of Dune -Snakewood (promised myself to DNF if I hate it as it's by the same author as TWR and commonly held to be the weaker book.)
  3. Thanks but no thanks. I'd add @StrikerEZ to the list, and probably @Mat and @Experience. Aware Mat is busy but he can decide, as he's been benched for a while.
  4. I'd say you don't really need good handwriting for fountain pens. I've seen people with awful handwriting in r/fountainpens and some of the local pen groups I'll leave it to someone with better handwriting to offer tips here. The most I've seen in my local pen groups is a lot of practice shaping letters and then words in the style you like. Some of them fill whole exercise books - the idea is to do it slow and get it right and then do it more. Fair My friends accuse me of being a pretender because I love broad nibs but my handwriting is so small it ruins the point of going broad God created Plat soft and elastic nibs to train the faithful
  5. Ah sorry, thought you mentioned getting it fixed! Though tbh Sailor feedback is a golden medium for me. I've heard legends of the Plat UEF feedback but I tried it once at a pen meet and immediately gave it back.
  6. Enjoy! I loved the Shadow Campaigns and was just thinking to myself I wanted to do a re-read. Did not realise he'd done Ashes of the Sun so I guess that's added to my list. Just finished: -Red Sky in the Morning Children's book, does one thing, does it well. Liked how my response to the book shifts with age to a certain distance from the protagonist, which is a sign Laird catches the teen mindset well. Liked the sign of the strains on the family in the background, because of course the protagonist is too young and shielded from much of this. -The Sunlit Man Both disappointed by Nomad at the start but greatly enjoyed the book. Continue to remember banter is not Sanderson's strong suit and I actively wince when reading him doing it (cf. de Castell's Greatcoats.) This was the SP I looked forward to the most and not disappointed. Generally a banger. -God-Emperor of Dune I like GEoD more now that I better understand what the book is about. Probably a lot I could say about different moving parts, but I'll save that for my review journal/tracker. Currently reading: -Yumi -The Winged Histories (re-read) -Heretics of Dune (guess I couldn't stop )
  7. I'm only on this many because of my wrist and Hael. Otherwise I'd probably game more, sadly. Joining you on The Sunlit Man! I just cleared Red Sky and wasn't really in the mood to move on to steampunk so Sunlit it is
  8. Is this the Shadow Campaigns I've been marathoning books a lot recently because of my wrist and because Hael and I are doing a 'read 52 books before the end of the year' goal/resolution thing. I just finished: -Children of Dune Part of a Dune marathon instigated by TJ and an essay about how Frank Herbert wrote Salafist themes into Dune. (I actually wanted to stop at DM because I knew if I did CoD I'd have to do GEoD before stopping, but there are fair reasons to go on to CoD instead of stopping at DM.) I got into re-reading it for lulz because everytime I read Duneiverse, I hate it, and I love it only after I'm done. I actually liked it a lot more this round, which might mean that my predominant memories of Dune are just reading the lot when I was fifteen or so because classmate I liked was super into it and then not getting everything that was going on and hating the everloving crem out of Frank Herbert's writing style. -The Tournament at Gorlan I like the Ranger's Apprentice series a lot. Yeah it's a kids book and arguably jumped the shark at Emperor of Nihon-Ja but in general it's simple and does a few bunch of things well, and sometimes it's nice to go back to a simple book to look at the craft and then do the simple thing well before writing anything more complicated. I liked the worldbuilding of the Ranger Corps, and watching younger Halt and Crowley get up to shenanigans is always fun. Also part of an ongoing marathon. Reading: -The Winged Histories (re-read) -God Emperor of Dune (please let me stop there please let me stop there) -Red Sky in the Morning (re-read) (I know there are three reads in progress - I have a system with two Kindles and a physical book. It's maybe not functional but mood is a thing for cattle or making love or reading )
  9. 1. If you deliberately "use AtM" as a tactic and have a long-known tendency to self-destruct, I consider you to have thoroughly poisoned the well - I'm not invested in keeping you alive or caring because there is equal probability of it being crocodile tears as well as it being genuine. Hell, I'll be more invested in letting new players live beyond a "oh this is not their literal first game so I can D1 them without guilt." This is absolutely a MU tactic I have zero patience for. Just because it's their second game does not immediately make D1ing them okay. 2. Space faeries did not lie I am the Quokka Whisperer. Congrats to the Elim team and thanks to Sart for running and letting me be Village! I was super out of this game/apathetic and I think I spent most of my time rejoicing to Araris that I dgaf and bemoaning that it took RL busy stress stuff to keep me dgaf.
  10. Removed as requested! Since it's taking longer to get games set-up and also because I'm lazy and have the spreadsheet open for updates right now: MR List: 1. @Ookla of Colors (hasn't logged in since 13 Feb) 2. @Karnatheon (missing) 3. @Ashbringer 4. @Steeldancer (missing) 5. @JNV [Note: JNV is running a non-Sanderson game but does not need a pass as the free slot is currently available.] 6. @Kasimir (...I'd prefer not to.) 7. @shadow1 (missing) 8. @xinoehp512 Presuming we can find at least one GM in this set. We can expand it if not. Suggest Ash and JNV iron it out between themselves?
  11. 1. IMO no point shooting Hairy. Hairy last showed up on D1. @Sart, with Hairy failing to post past D1, does Hairy die during D3 or start N3? Ooer. Side-thought: Nasty complication for us I maybe didn't think about. Suppose for now Hairy is Village. (Worst case scenario, remember?) If so: -Aman misshoots -Elim kill succeeds 6/3 -> 4/3 Theoretically 4/3 is not lylo, but: Further suppose V!Hairy dies D3: 3/3 -> lylo V!Hairy dies N3: 4/3 -> ML takes us to 3/3 and Hairy perishing of inactivity and being keelhauled -> 2/3 V loss. 2. I will bracket this comment by noting I don't like to lean too heavily on GM meta. However: -Sart is known to want to choose randomly (+) -I still doubt most GMs would let that team through - it's a team that has no real support for the new players. You can argue that Araris and Szeth ran that team in QF64 but I'll note that team had you. (-) I'm not strongly convinced the team missed a kill. I'm still leaning towards the view they deliberately killed TJ because I generally feel inactivity hunting should be last ditch, not first effort, especially in our predicament. (It has corrosive effects on Village capacity IMO.) It's absolutely possible that my reluctance to do so will be lethal for us here, but that's why I'm looking at both you and Aman. (I've considered Drake and JNV again, but am still less convinced they fit for now.) The main things holding me back are that, as I said, it's kinda unhelpful to tell Aman frankly 'kys' ( ) though I've mentioned my suspicion of him more than once. The other reason I dislike the Raven/2 Newbies formulation: -Raven is too missing to do much reading into -Newbies too passive for this Essentially pushing them is going for a crapshoot because it doesn't feel there's much to go off. It's maybe a shocking statement coming from me, the believer in discussed exes, but the tepidity of the thread from the past two cycles is not leaving me too optimistic that we'll see an indicator we're hitting something. We could take this as a sign that we're not pressuring the right people, but where does that leave us? <Aet, Raven, Hairy> because Bee has faced lethal pressure and no one batted an eye, not even Bee. Raven is barely there, Hairy has not showed up since D1. That's a Hail Sithis shot if I ever saw one.
  12. PoE + it seems harsh to tell Aman 'kys' and also lbr if he's Village that's a bad shout, if he's Evil, he's not gonna shoot himself.
