The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 10: Chapters 25-27

FeatherWriter (Alyx)

I called it! I never call stuff like that. But I totally called it and I never call stuff like that! That’s kind of why it’s fun to record these, because the few times that I do get it right I’m like: “It’s on recording! I got proof! I’ve got an ‘I told you so!’”

First of all, I want to apologize for the brief hiatus we’ve had on Splintercast. It’s been a really hectic few weeks for me and I appreciate your patience. Free time has been in short supply for this Feather, especially the long swaths of time it takes to sit down and edit the audio for a whole episode. But we’re back now and we’re nearing the end.

This time, a lot happens! Allegiances are revealed! Wax takes a tumble! Steris hardly gets any page-time but I talk about her anyway. And a cliffhanger of truly Branderson proportions rears its head at the end of 27. Past!Feather is wary, however. She expects shenanigans.

I also mention a currently held theory of mine, that of Roshar’s Afterlife, so I’ll drop the link to that here. This reminds me that I ought to go update that with BoM and Secret History knowledge at some point. Hmm. A project for another day, however.

I say Ars Arcanum the same way, so I'm just go ahead and say we're right.  'Cause we can't /both/ be wrong, right? :D

Snapping is still a thing, and I'm pretty sure all Sazed did was lower the threshold (i.e. it no longer takes a life-threatening beating to Snap)

"...he puts the Bands on and saves everybody seems /way/ to straightforward for a Brandon book" hehe, well...

Ah yes, the shenanigans.  I love that word.

I already have a theory along the same lines as your SA afterlife ideas, too, but I think yours is way better than mine.

In brief: certain spren were not always spren, they were once people who, through a series of interesting events, got enough Investiture that they could stay as spren/cognitive ghosts. Originally (read, 2014), this was based on the Stormfather-is-Honor's-Cognitive-Shadow thing, but I think there's more evidence for this due to what happened in SH. I guess it's based on the idea that there is more than one way to get a spren, though whether the formerly-human-spren retain their memory is up for debate. *shrug*

Three letters, the second one having a triangular shape, with a meaning relevant to the Sovereign?

M, A, R, perhaps?

I doubt it since they don't write using the Latin script.

I know, but it's not any script that Wax, Marasi, or Allik are familiar with, which rules out Malwish, Terris, and the Steel alphabet.  Besides, it fits the rest of the evidence, and we don't know what else it could be.

(I feel like I ought to bump, because no pressure but that's really bugging me)

@Slowswift I'm going to go ahead and @Chaos on this one since he handles the SoundCloud side of things. I try to follow all these topics and comments, but I don't think he does.

Oh, okay. I don't know why I didn't just ping him as well.

Thanks for helping clear things up, and for making Splintercast to begin with. :D
