Shardcast: Hoid Wouldn't Hold Nightblood - Skyward Tour Words Of Brandon #2

On this totally on time episode of Shardcast, Eric screwed up recording so he can't put Words of Brandon on screen. Production value! But, we do get some cool stuff with Voidlight. Also, space whales, the Super Cannon, and the UnBae'd. And, lastly, Eric freaks out about the Lord Ruler's children, as usual.

This week we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (WeiryWriter), Evgeni (Argent), and Shannon (Grey). Send your Who's That Cosmere Characters to [email protected].

Argent said Hoid is a person of interest.

Victim or perpetrator? ;)

Also, the next question (about telepathy) was one of mine, and you glossed over what I intended to be the central point of the question when I asked it: is telepathy only something Shards can do--as what we've seen so far--or is it available to ordinary mortals as well?

"Do corrupted spren act differently in fabrials?"  Isn't that kind of implicit in the whole mess we saw with the Oathgate?

Also... what happened to the ending?  In both the SoundCloud and YouTube versions, it abruptly cuts off during clue #1 of the second Cosmere Character.

On Hoid and Vasher ... Vasher has changed names and appearance over the course of his (second) life. They didn't run into each other during Warbreaker, but maybe they met another time when Vasher looked more like a Returned and had a different name. Hoid might not connect that person with Zahel.

Sleepless ... I think they are significantly bigger than humans, but not necessarily Chasmfiend size. In Edgedancer, Arclo looks about 70% complete (missing an arm, an eye and a few chunks) when he is talking to Lift in the alley and she observes there are still many thousands of cremlings on the walls around her.

Quote

Thousands upon thousands of cremlings coated the walls each the size of a finger Little beasts of chitin and legs clicking away and making that awful buzz. "The thing about this philosophy is how hard it is to disprove." the old man said. - Edgedancer Ch. 17

Later he reforms his arm and eye yet there are still a ton "swarming" around him on the ground and all over the wall around Wyndle. Seems like there are at least enough for 1.5 Arclo's and that's just what we see he had close by to help him fight off the Skybreakers. It may be all he has it may not be.

He also says not all of him ever sleeps at once. This implies that while part of him is in Arclo form, some are sleeping and we've seen he has part of him scattered around the city spying.

Arclo bemoans how he can never pull off the impersonation of a human quite right, he always looks off.

Quote

"I've spent thousands of years breeding my hoardlings and still I can't make them quite make them fit together quite right ... anyone who looks closely finds something off." -ED Ch. 17

This is because he's not and never was human or humanoid. There is no reason why his size would be limited to human proportions if his existence is not at all tied to them. He is taking humanoid shape to try to blend in with what most of the sentient life on the planet looks like, but the number and size of his hoardlings wouldn't be tied to that.

There was a rendering error from Premiere last night; I have updated the post with updated versions and hopefully nothing has gone awry!

I nearly choked laughing at the (unintentional?) double entendre "he's tapping youth" during the discussion of the Lord Ruler possibly siring children as a 900-year-old. I salute you, Eric!

Two topics you guys discussed that I feel like should be expanded on with Autonomy.

The topic where Shannon ( @Greywatch? ) talked about she wants to see shards that have been split/more than the original 16 shards. The Avatars in the letters to Hoid in Oathbringer apparently disagree with each other, so wouldn't this fit the criteria perfectly? Idk how many Avatars you need for the number to be qualified as a Pantheon, but Greek gods had 12.

So if this is how Autonomy is, can the different aspects be different enough to manifest different God metals on shard worlds?

Idk why I thought it was so funny, but I was laughing at @Argent calling out @Chaos's pronunciation of Patji. All I could think of was, "Welcome to FallingOutCast, a spin off of PedanticCast, where pronunciations anger the hosts enough to lash out and shatter friendships."

A sleepless with a large horde could be two different people at the same time.

Imagine visiting a town and slowly figuring out that everyone there is the same sleepless.

@Argent On Voidlight, in Moash’s last appearance in OB he gets the Honorblade and is given a sphere of Voidlight which he breathes in and feels “Passion” return to him.

He was feeling numb before that because he gave his Passion to Odium. Odium’s servants seem dependent on Odium to feel deeply.

I don't know if that sphere was voidlight though, I don't think it specifies in text.

On how spren feel about fabrials. I think it would depend on the type of spren captured in the fabrial. Near the beginning of Oathbringer, Syl tells Kaladin about her “aunt” who likes to hunt gloomspren like the Alethi hunt chasamfiends. To me that implies that at least some of the more sapient spren consider lesser spren to be like animals. And might not care about them in that way.

That's true it doesn't specify what is in the sphere. I just assumed it would be voidlight.

Vyre, He Who Quiets, sucked in the light of the sphere. It was sweet and beautiful, and -- as he'd been promised --brought Passion with it. OB 122

These two passages seem to be speaking to each other. If Vyre is sucking in Stormlight then Odium isn't returning Passion to him, it makes more sense if it is Voidlight.

It just doesn't sound like Stormlight and the Fused wouldn't be carrying Stormlight spheres, they could have gotten some specifically for Vyre, but the only reason I could see them doing that is if Vyre can't use Voidlight, and that would be really inconvenient.

I totally crushed it today on who's that cosmere character. Got all of them before the guessers, and came up with Hoid on the first clue.
