Shardcast: State of the Sanderson 2017

This week, Brandon's yearly update on all his projects, State of the Sanderson, came out. It always comes out on the 19th, which his birthday, and we thought we'd do a quick episode talking about the updates, changes, and analyzing all the things in it. We thought it'd be a short episode, so naturally it is 40 minutes instead.

Due to the holidays, it is just Ian (WeiryWriter) and Eric (Chaos). Next week we'll have a big podcast on the Recreance to close out 2017.

I'm kind of disappointed you guys didn't mention that Skyward is in the same world as a story he wrote that isn't Cosmere or Reckoners. That was the most interesting part of his post on that.

Edit: You did mention it ten minutes later. And you need to read Firstborn and Defending Elysium @WeiryWriter. They're both short and free online.

Also, I'm disappointed that Eric didn't like Defending Elysium. I love it and recommend it to people all the time.

I didn't say I didn't like Defending Elysium. I said (I think) it was a little weird and definitely feels like an older Brandon work, which is fair.

What I didn't like was Sixth of Dusk :)

We don't know. His exact words in the announcement are

Quote

As I’ve played with Skyward over the years, I tried to pull it into the Cosmere, then found it didn’t work there. However, it is in the continuity of something I’ve written before. Something that isn’t the Cosmere, and isn’t the Reckoners. And no, I won’t say anything more for now.
