Shardcast: Oathbringer Part Three Epigraphs

 Share

Welcome back to Shardcast. This week we are talking in exhaustive detail about Oathbringer's Part Three Epigraphs. And I do mean exhaustive, because this podcast is longer than our Oathbringer reaction podcast. There is, however, a huge deal to talk about. These are the Urithiru gemstones, and it is crazy. Listen on, and we come up with some excellent theories for the time around the Recreance and the False Desolation. Plus, we get on a lot of exciting tangents too. Note: there are full Oathbringer spoilers here!

We also discuss the mystery project, Skyward, which we got a reading to the other week.

Kerry's sick today, so I am hosting, along with Ian (WeiryWriter) and David (Windrunner).

Stay tuned for next week when we talk about Part Four's Epigraphs--the last of the interesting ones.

I wonder who that Truthwatcher was who contributed to drawer 30-20.  The one who recorded the plan to create the parshmen, and appended basically a footnote saying "Oh BTW I foresaw this."

EDIT: Moash does not count as a member of Bridge Four and you know it.

EDIT:  Hoid's line re: future sight was, and I quote:

Quote

"Be wary of anyone who claims to be able to see the future, Shallan."

"Except you of course.  Didn't you say you can see where you need to be?"

"Be wary," he repeated, "of anyone who claims to be able to see the future, Shallan."

Anyone who "claims" to see the future, for starters.  That gives them a lot of potential clout, especially so if their predictions come true.  Second off, the fact that Hoid applies the warning to himself is, IMO, much like warning Dalinar not to "trust himself" with him in WoR, a warning that yes, he does have his own agenda, and no, it will not always align with our protagonists'.

On the question of whether Sja-anat managed to corrupt Radiant spren pre-Recreance this quote from in world WOR sure makes it sound like she did and the Radiants responded with extreme prejudice

Quote

"In short, if any presume Kazilah to be innocent, you must look at the facts and deny them in their entirety; to say that the Radiants were destitute of integrity for this execution of one their own, one who had obviously fraternized with the unwholesome elements, indicates the most slothful of reasoning; for the enemy’s baleful influence demanded vigilance on all occasions, of war and of peace." - WOR chapter 51 epigraph

Although it seems to align with Shallan/the protagonists WAY more than usual in this book. It seems he's getting invested in the situation. Pun intended.

I loved that guys! Some nice theorizing in there. Windy particularly hit it out of the park. More! More epigraphs! More Recreance! Oh and you should do a dedicated episode to worldhoppers.

hm. I feel like nobody properly understands the spiritual realm... Maybe... hmmmm

I gotta admit, my eyes glaze over with any Spiritual Realm stuff. It's the cheat realm where Brandon does whatever he wants in it to make the magic work. What specifically are you referring to here?

I say this with the utmost respect and love.

David, clear your throat every now and then FOR THE LOVE OF THE STORMFATHER.

I'm sorry I have several auditory triggers.

I'm gonna try and explain stuff. I've been working on something for a while... I'll post it eventually.

It's okay! Sorry I was just venting. I totally understand as I am as we speak at the tail end of a nasty flu. Maybe that's why my fuse was shorter than usual. :)

I think it will take us practice for us to be super professional about everything. I know there was just one time for me where David was pretty croaky, but that happens.

Thanks for the great analysis and fun theorizing. There were quite a few connections I had missed. In particular, I hadn't paid any attention to the drawer numbers, so having you group them together that way was very useful.
