A huge congratulations to Brandon, as it was just announced today that The Emperor's Soul has won a Hugo nomination. The Emperor's Soul is simply fantastic--and in my opinion the best of Brandon's shorter works--and is entirely deserving of this honor.

For those who don't know, the Hugos are a very prestigious award in Science Fiction/Fantasy and are given out by attendees of the World Science Fiction Convention (also known as WorldCon). So, if you happen to be going to San Antonio for it on August 29th-September 2nd, why not vote for TES? :)

You can see the full list of Hugo nominees at WorldCon's site.

Love, love, love this novella!  It reminded me in some ways of Warbreaker ... but better!  (Jeez!  I can say that!)  Yeah!  I loved Emperor's Soul and hope to learn more of it in the future.  Thanks, Brandon!

I first bought the epub version of it a week or two after it was released. Read through it, thought it was a nice stop gap treat for a cosmere fan with some really good realmatic information and began rereading Elantris while waiting for WoR. But later I ordered a copy in from book depository (as reading a real paper book is just always better) and it arrived yesterday, and upon reading it again I think it would have to be one of my favourite Brandon Sanderson books if not my favourite book full stop. I love the prose which is much improved, and it's amazing how he can still world build on a vast scale with so little room to work with. The story itself is both personal AND epic with the stakes being so high, if there was any book that represented what kind of stories I want to write it would be this one. It's not without its flaws the resolution was a bit too tidy for my liking but man it was brilliant. And like all good books and all of Brandon's it left me wondering what happened to the characters afterwards, once the story had finished. Just an absolutely fabulous story. And very deserving of its nomination. I hope it wins.

I hope it wins as well and fingerscrossed.gif on seeing a sequel or companion novel to this sometime in the future.
