  1. I personally believe that a desolation occurs, without a doubt, due to a herald breaking under torture… I consider the following quote to be irrefutable proof. "Obvious they are fools The Desolation needs no usher IT can and will sit where it wishes and the signs of obvious that the spren anticipate it doing so soon The Ancient of stones must finally begin to crack It is a wonder that upon his will rested the prosperity and peace of a world for over four millennia" -From the Diagram, Book of the 2nd ceiling rotation: Pattern 1 (page 998)
  2. This thread has FINALLY gotten me some authors to read …. Looking forward the the Malazan (might have spelt that wrong) series, or the Jim Butcher books… I have seen dresden book in some shops, but never looked at them.. On Sanderson.. when I first started reading him, I didn't reaaaaally like him as much as some others… too black and white, not enough tray material… Things tended to be either right, or wrong, in some of his early series… I'm sick of reading that sort of thing, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed Joe ambercrombie… I loved all of his books from the start of the first law… inherently brutal, with a very UNHAPPY ending… but I LOVED that… I was so sick of the "bad guy loses, good guy gets girl, lives happily ever… bleurgh" The ending of the first law series left me a bit… shell-shocked, but I loved it all the same. I do wish Joe would do a bit more world building, as I love book with DEEP backstories, with real history behind the book history. That being said, of course, I love Sanderson now… I'm just doing a through re-read of the words of radiance, and I find myself really loving it… the Shallan's backstory, Kaladins fury, the Eshonai story… much better than any of his other works… It had some flaws, but I love it all the same… WOK is perhaps the only one I find which stands up to it… though I did love the start of the second mist born series… it was terribly cliche, but a real laugh. Warbreaker; I've only listened to the graphic audio version, which ended on a real (bleeping) cliffhanger… I hope he follows up, was real annoying reading WOR and wondering where certain characters vanished to. (don't remember how to do spoiler tags, I'm new here… I hope none of this needs it) Brent weeks…. I liked his Night angel series, though it got a bit soppy in places… first book was the hardest in some ways, but I still loved all the books… I much prefer his light bringer series, and I look forward to the 3rd book… Though his characters are annoyingly non communicative, which can be really irritating! Robert Jordan… Haven't read him in ages… I liked the series, and I've read it a few times, but all with my old speed-read tactic.. which I'm trying to break out of… I doubt I could stomach the amount of useless filler in a lot of the books, I have better ways to waste time… if they only showed Mat's POV, I'de love it. Eragon books: Don't know why I bother mentioning them... I loved the first one when i was about 11-12… read second, read the other two a few years later.. it really went downhill… I did love them when I was young though! George. Bah…. I'm in a bit of love/hate with Martin atm… I like all his books, but he's a bit toooooo trigger happy for me to really want to get involved. Good books none the less! Patrick Rothfuss:YEAAAAAAAAAAAA… I was given the name of the wind for my 15th or 16th bday… and didn't touch it… picked it up about a year ago on a friends advice, and i was TRAPPED. Best books I think i have ever read… listened to them on audiobook twice so far, and would more than happily do it again… Love the subtle history in it, the style of writing… a dozen other things… I do wish he's give us the 3rd book soon… Probably the only books which I would rate as good Sanderson… While the second wasn't quite as good as the first, I still really enjoyed it. Like harry potter books, only much much much better. I read sword of truth books about 2 years ago, got given all but one of them (which i haven't been able to find in any bookstore, library or anything..) I slogged through the first 9 or so… but … mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't know why I bothered really. Shannara I vaguely remember.. Nothing particularly memorable however Jonathan Stroud… while he might not belong here; the Bartimeous(bad spelling… can't be bothered to correct it) books I love. Bart is one of my favourite witty characters… Interesting alternate history, and fun magic. Nothing amazingly deep, but some interesting society changes… Good books, I would highly recommend if you want some light reading. Lots of Laughs to be had in the sarcastic footnotes. nothing else really comes to mind… I'll post more if I remember more!
  3. Silly question… but… who is khryss? Cant seem to load the copper mind...
  4. Pity about the leaks…. I must say I am loving these Glimpses, as I only get them from this thread… I really can't wait for the release! Speaking of the release; does anyone know when The Words of Radiance will be released in Australia? I seriously doubt Brandon will pull a "Martin", and go on a key character murdering spree, thus, I doubt any of the Primary 4 will die… or at least not on the second book! Syl is safe… Renarin…., alas….. I hope we don't see a Parlin. Also, does anyone know if the colour of a radiants plate/blade indicates what order they are from? and do we know anything about stone wards? Probably the wrong place to ask, ah well.
  5. This is like pulling teeth…. the wait is pure agony, especially because I'm living remotely at the moment, and won't be able to get the book for a long (like 2-3 days…. agonizingly long) time!
  6. Selling adolin for explorer… reasons for this? Because he is one of the Main 4 POVS in book 1… Why include him if not for something awesome Seriously though, I believe it will be Eshonai, because she mentions wanting to explore, and because she will become a major player in the series as it pans out ( I believe so anyway) . Edited for seplling, and other objects of import.
  7. I've always held onto the idea that radiants could summon their plate as well as their blades… After all, We know that the Radiants could invest in their plate, or at least do something to it… we don't (afaik) know what it does, but it makes plate and blade glow with Glyphs…. It isn't a huge step to imagine being able to summon/dismiss plate as well as blade. Speaking of blade and plate… Do we have any idea where hundreds, if not thousands of sets of Blade and Plate have disappeared to? Is Urithiru now a giant storage Cache?
  8. Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't one of the readings mention a "darkness" character? I remember reading a whole passage which I now cannot find… I thought it was Ym's, but it apparently wasn't….. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  9. Or Aes sedai Anyway, isn't Amaram supposed to be one of Sadeas's men? Afaik, he fought against Vedans (?) who were encroaching on Sadeas's(?) territory…. Why is one of Sadeas's men in contact with Dalinar…. How did they get to know act other… Has Amaram talked with Sadeas prior to his meeting with Dalinar?
  10. Just a question…. If something like Amaram's murders happened in a George R.R. Martin book, would we bat en eyelid ? I personally think that the interactions between Kaladin and Amaram will be very interesting, to say the least. I hope Kaladin doesn't do something stupid like attack Amaram, but I doubt he'll actually tell Dalinar straight off why he hates Amaram… that'll be some uncomfortable scenes . Should be interesting no matter the ending… Will Dalinar believe Kaladin if he does speak up… what would he do/say to Amaram….
  11. Now…. in that little muttered conversation, didn't they mention an "Ash" ……… could that be Shalash…….. and Isn't her statue conspicuously missing from gavilars 10 statues? Coooooooooooo-incidence?????? I think not. Mind, I don't know what this might mean, or simply just might not.
  12. Right, first post, time to verse a controversial opinion;please correct me if i've made a mistake or a misquote somewhere Amaram, in greed, killed 4 innocent men, and condemned another to a life of slavery; to obtain the ultimate prize; shard blade and plate. Amaram held council(might be wrong spelling, forgive my barbarism) to Gavilar, in some secret matter. Amaram knows of the void bringers. He said that he bears burdens that Kaladin cannot understand, and he appears to show real remorse and sadness. It is a war. In war, hard choices must be made. Amaram is trained in the blade and plate. Empty rationalizing or not, I can understand why he killed the last of Kaladins squad. I don't condone what he did, be it in greed or a hidden motive we may not know. I really feel for Kaladin; I found Kaladins memories extremely painful to read (i still skip them when listening to the audiobook). Roshar isn't black and white… a good man can perform evil acts, and a evil man can be redeemed, to a level. I don't think writing Amaram off because some of his actions were evil. I think he still has a role to play. Again, sorry if my post isn't great, I'm not feeling great atm, and can't seem to successfully proofread it >.<
