  1. I would think that one of the Ideals of the Dustbringers would be: "I will stop the spread of evil." or "I will stand up against the advancement of evil." It fits the idea of abrasion in the idea of stopping evil in its tracks, and the idea of standing up for what is right, stopping for a second and saying, "This is wrong." It fits the idea of bravery as well. I could see Adolin saying these words or something similar when justifying Sadeas's fate.
  2. I would think that something stuck to a wall with stormlight has a very strong perpendicular attachment to the wall in the same way weight sticks Lift to the ground while she is sliding, but the Abrasion change would allow the object to move laterally on the wall without falling off.
  3. Highstorms originate from the Origin, which is in the East. They travel east to west, whereas the Everstorm comes from the west. Looking at the map of Roshar in the books gives the Leeward and Stormward directions that verify this.
  4. http://i.imgur.com/iOOo4zL.jpg I asked if there were any original names for characters we didn't know about, mentioning that Syl was my favorite. Originally, Syl was named "The East Wind".
  5. Like Spinning Plates - Kaladin as he detests the highprinces' games and snobbishness while his friends die in bridgeruns. Particularly powerful. You and Whose Army - for the scene where Dalinar survives Sadeas's betrayal and forfeits his Shardblade. Just - anything with Nalan in it, particularly the Ym scene. Talk Show Host - Dalinar, when thinking about assassins in the night and Sadeas. I Will - When thinking about the Listeners who grew up under assault from the Alethi, just trying to protect their children from war. Reckoner - Makes me think about the larger workings of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. You could say I have a thing for Radiohead...
  6. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/3suo4l/oathbringer_i_think_flashback_dalinar_is_based/ In the link above, Brandon says that Khan was his inspiration for the plot in the scene, so take that as you will. It's likely just the inspiration for Dalinar's resourcefulness and practicality rather than brutality, which is something people didn't always realize about Khan.
  7. I don't think we know enough about what Nale meant when he said Szeth was now cleansed of his past doings. I find it more likely that he said this because he knows how much Szeth was tormented by his actions and is wanting to keep Szeth from falling down the path of becoming Odium's "champion". Why would Nale kill these radiants-in-the-making if he was just going to revive them again? That question can only be answered with more info on whether this process is actually cleansing or just something he said to Szeth to make him feel better about joining the Skybreakers.
  8. I was similar. I read very slow, though, so I guess it makes sense that I only read them around 10 times. I've gotten faster, but still only read at about 2 minutes/page.
  9. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7197-syl-but-ive-helped-men-kill-before/ This thread gives some good evidence for this theory, but it isn't a straight up WoB that she is pre-Recreance.
  10. Thanks, Peter. We can now sleep soundly tonight
  11. I think it's worthwhile to hold Brandon accountable for inconsistencies of any size, as long as we do keep in mind that he's human and they aren't the worst things in the world. I'm sure he would want us to, at least. I would think that he would let his editor know if there was a conformed inconsistency and rectify it for future prints.
  12. I agree, that is an interesting way of saying it. I wouldn't usually think of death as a spark, more like a flame flickering out, but that might just be evidence that my normal way of thinking isn't complete.
  13. I think you're right, but that isn't the whole story. I think "death is my life" makes this pretty clearly about Szeth because of how entangled Szeth's life has been with the deaths of others. It also says to me that Szeth will become Odium's champion through how much death he has caused and how much hatred he has felt, both for himself and his enemies. I'm of the opinion that Szeth won't become a Skybreaker because of his ties to Odium, and that Nalan will have somehow solidified him as Odium's champion rather than help cleanse him. The spiritual and physical ties of Szeth to life have been broken, and that brings him closer to what I would think of as an Unmade than anything, something that will put Voidbinding to use rather than Surgebinding (which I'm of the opinion will use death as a central point of power).
  14. Very much agree. I think the calendar and orbital patterns are much more impactful in the realm of astronomy or moon patterns, which are much more interesting. Edit: I need more info on astronomy in the Roshar system. I've read the Moons on Roshar thread, but most of that info is from early 2014 and I want to know the details of the system canonically.
  15. As far as I know, spren don't seek out listeners for the Nahel Bond, they only seek out humans. There might be the possibility for someone like The Lopen to be a KR, but I highly doubt a listener could bond a spren other than those which give them forms like dullform, stormform, mateform, etc.
