  1. (I haven't posted here in ages so hi everyone.) I was actually the person who asked if Hoid was the weapon that shattered Adonalsium, and I mostly asked it because I wanted to get a RAFO card (it wasn't originally my question, someone, probably one of you guys, suggested I ask it to get the card.) Imagine my surprise when he did answer it! Guess I'll try again next time, or just go the route of the person above.
  2. I finished it last night and wow... I was not expecting the ending on any level. It just got so dark so quickly, and my heart was breaking for Alcatraz and then it was just over and I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe Brandon would go there. I flipped through the acknowledgements and stuff desperately, but I didn't see the note. I practically slammed the book down on my bed, and hurried 17th Shard to see if this was all a big joke or something. And then when I saw a mention of a note in the back, I ran back and got it and read it so fast and then everything was okay again. Seriously, though, what an ending. I didn't really believe Alcatraz - I thought what he thought was cowardice would actually turn out to not really be his fault, and then... Also, I feel so sorry for the people who don't notice the note.
  3. While I have to admit this would be a pretty funny twist, there's a point in Dark Talent where Alcatraz, when talking about Bastille, writes how she's standing right next to him in "our house." I can't see a way that would work if it's not Alcatraz she marries.
  4. I already wanted to go to BYU-Provo, but as a serious aspiring author I've been dying to take that class since I found out it existed and he taught it.
  5. The thing is, this scare has happened around this time for the last 2-3 years, because the contract is a yearly one and it keeps expiring. But they usually do renew it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was back up soon. (Although apparently BBC wants to start their own streaming service in America...so then again maybe it won't.) But yeah, this sort of thing is why we've been saving up to get them on DVD.
  6. My sister and I recently blew some money we'd been saving on the DVDs of the entire seasons 1-8! We've had our eye on this really good deal for a while ($90 for all eight seasons, which is less than $1 an episode), then finally went and did it after we heard that this year the possibility that Doctor Who will actually be taken off Netflix is almost certain because the BBC wants to open up a streaming thing in America or something. We're really excited for the summer too, because we're going to catch my friend up on Doctor Who (she's only seen the first 3 seasons!). We're just going to have her over like every day and watch a couple episodes.
  7. I got into Sanderson's stuff about three years ago now, and I've started limiting my re-reading to once a year, just so I can make myself read new things. (I actually do this with most of the books I love. If not, I'd probably end up just reading them over and over again.) Here are my readings as of now: Mistborn Trilogy - I think 4 times. Maybe 5 for the first book. Alloy of Law - Twice. Really need to re-read now that I've read Shadows of Self. Shadows of Self - Once. Elantris - At least three times. The Emperor's Soul - Twice, maybe three times. Hope of Elantris: Haven't actually read yet. Warbreaker - Three times. Possibly four. WoK: 3 times WoR: I think twice, but maybe 3 times. Planning on re-reading soon. Alcatraz: I think I've read the first book 3 times and all others twice. Steelheart - Only twice, I think. Mitosis: Once. Firefight: Only once. The Rithmatist: Three times. Legion: Twice Skin Deep: Once, maybe twice Shadow of Silence in the Forests of Hell: I actually haven't read this one yet either... Sixth of Dusk: Twice
  8. Yes. I listened to a lot of his mainline audio dramas a year or so ago, and I really enjoyed them.
  9. If the world is advanced enough that they recognize things like self-harm issues for what they are, than I would suggest you build this in as part of the world - maybe have it so part of prescriptions for depression and self-harm issues is "you can't do magic," and other, similar things to indicate that the people know this is a problem and have procedures for it. The other thing I would suggest, especially if the world isn't advanced, is to have a character who has these issues and work through the implications over the course of the story. It doesn't have to be a main character, but it would probably help to highlight the issue as a problem of the world. The idea suggested earlier - that people would normally make the cuts on parts of their body that aren't common for self-harming people, and that's how it's "different" - could also help.
  10. Well, I think most of us on here will be getting this for free...xD I'm sure this will exist one day - the question is whether or not we'll invent time travel first.
  11. Well, it's basically the format you'd see when you read books. Common things you need to know include all basic spelling and capitalization rules, paragraphs indented, don't write long blocks of texts, etc. For dialogue in particular: First, you need a new line for every line of dialogue. (Except when there's a beat directly before/after the line.) Then, you format it like this: "Dialogue," said Person1. The comma is inside the quotes. A freestanding line of dialogue would have a period instead of a comma: "Dialogue." He walked across the room. For questions or exclamations, you replace the comma or period with a question mark or exclamation point: "Dialogue!" he said. Beats: Acceptable: "Dialogue," he said. He walked across the room. He walked across the room. "Dialogue." "Dialogue." He walked across the room. "More dialogue." Not acceptable: Having two people speak without starting a new paragraph - "Dialogue," Person 1 said. "More dialogue" said Person 2. Having dialogue in the middle of a long paragraph of description. I hope that helps somewhat, though I'm not quite sure what could be wrong - if you'd like to post part of your work here, I would know for sure if there were any problems.
  12. That's awesome! Also, I love this quote from the article: Sounds about right.
  13. Yeah, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any Clara echos meeting 12, because the Great Intellegence was attacking every point in the Doctor's timeline, but since his timeline was supposed to end there the Great Intellegence would only have attacked it at points before that, so the Doctor had already met all the Clara echos. Plus, the whole thing was probably re-written by Time of the Doctor anyway.
