  1. Hey all, I was the other person recording and completely forgot to post my audio and transcribe anything new. I caught a bit of the beginning of the signing line before Cosmologist reached the table. Awesome job Cosmologist on the recording and transcription! There wasn't really anything new in that extra bit, but I transcribed what was there and added it to the doc. Signing Line: Q&A and reading: The reading is included in this audio, but since it is up on tor.com I think it's ok to post it: [00:01:45] His experience signing in the UAE [00:06:20] Korean language [00:14:35] Geek shaming [00:20:15] Q&A [00:20:55] How did the idea to have a cross-dressing female character come about? [00:23:15] Mistborn video game? [00:24:05] Where did the name Bridge Four come from? [00:25:45] Career a straight line? [00:28:40] Favorite and best character? [00:29:50] Is the blank page terrifying? [00:31:40] What's Adonalsium and do you intend to use him in a later book? [00:32:45] Do you feel like the book is spoiled when Tor puts so much of it up online beforehand? [00:34:45] How to network as a new author? [00:37:50] Would you finish Kingkiller Chronicles if Pat dropped dead tomorrow? (interesting discussion of writing style) [00:40:00] "My prose is much closer to George Martin's but my thematic content is *way* different. They say "Let's just give it to Sanderson." I'm like, "Really? Do you want all of these Game of Thrones people to stop swearing and get married?"" [00:40:40] Designing magic systems? [00:41:25] Background of the Rosharan magic system? [00:43:00] Working on another project; what makes you excited? [00:44:55] Announcements [00:45:20] There's a new scene in the 10th anniversary edition of Elantris that will be of interest to sharders [00:49:20] When's Stormlight 3 come out? (Nov) [00:49:47] What else do you have coming out? [00:51:10] Will the Alcatraz cover be completely irrelevant to the content of the book? [00:52:20] Reading
  2. Awesome thanks Serial! I knew someone must have the second half. Feel free to use that google doc to transcribe if you want to. Regardless, I'm excited to hear all those questions!
  3. Sure! Here's the full transcript. I did paraphrase questions about writing, other authors' books, WoT, etc (or when the question audio is indecipherable but I remember the gist of it from the event). Raw audio: soundcloud Edit: Added link to raw audio in case someone want to look up something or double check.
  4. It interesting that you felt that way Kurkistan, because I actually hated Sadeas more at the end of WoK. The chapters from Sadeas' PoV in WoR really helped me understand his philosophy and how he rationalized his actions. I didn't like him, but I think maybe it made him seem, to me, like a product of his nation and times. Finished transcribing. There was someone else, I thought, recording the line so they may have the second half. I'm sticking a few highlights in a spoiler tag below. Italicized lines = paraphrased vs. text = verbatim. Hope to see some of you at the next one of these. Maybe we should have a pre-signing thread too next time to coordinate a meetup? Edit: typos
  5. Thanks Curiosity! Looks great to me. I was mostly trying to get an outline of the signing with paraphrased questions and answers unless it is a potentially Cosmere-impacting answer. You did an awesome job. I got in the signing line during the reading, which is why that fades out near the middle. I assume we have the reading already because it's the same one he's been doing at most of the signings.
  6. Audio: soundcloud Beginnings of a transcription: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16_wtZtrjkDjmdcq1qhOBh8WTzXmO7ZHP15Zzo4Q0JMs/edit?usp=sharing Edit: Fixed soundcloud link.
  7. I recorded parts of the Q&A and the first half of the signing line. I'm working on transcribing, but in the mean time I wanted to mention one cool tidbit from Brandon. He's (re)optioned 4 of his books/series to be made into movies: Steelheart, Legion, Mistborn, Emperors Soul. I didn't record his answer, but he said that Steelheart was optioned on Friday, that Emperor's Soul was optioned by DMG (Iron Man 3), and that there is a film treatment (between scene cards and a screenplay) for Mistborn. If I recall, he said the DMG guys went down the Cosmere rabbit hole and got excited. He made a joke about them playing with the idea of a "Sanderson Cinematic Universe"
  8. This is very cool! Looks amazing Geekritique. I wanted to share one tidbit from a question I asked at the Steelheart signing way back. Turns out Taldain is tidally locked with it's sun which is why it is always day on one side and night on the other. Doesn't change your map, but I thought it was a cool stray piece of cosmological info.
  9. Hey OP, Avatar: The Last Airbender - I'd second this one. It's a lovely show full of character growth, friendships, action and fun. Friday Night Lights - This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I really thought it was an incredible series. Focuses on the lives of a Texas high school football coach, his family, and a few football players and other teenagers. Exceptional drama. The first episode just sucked me right in. Sherlock - By some of the Doctor Who guys (in case you haven't seen it yet). Legend of the Seeker - Fun, pulpy series based on the Sword of Truth novels. By the Xena people. The West Wing - Office drama set in the White House. Thought provoking and engaging. Top Gear? - Just discovered this. Loads of fun.
  10. I like this theory, but I'm having a hard time trying to fit stormspren into it. So far as we know (or think we know), the red lightening stormspren are the only definitive Odiumspren we have seen. Are storms then a sensation or a force? Or are they not actually stormspren but something else like destruction/"wind blowing really hard" spren? Or maybe some combination of force/sensation like Moogle theorizes?
  11. What I find interesting is the mention of Rayse being "what we made him": Does this imply that the shardholders/Hoid were to blame for the shattering of Adonalsium? That it wasn't a mistake but rather that they chose it and the specific shards they now hold? --- The writer of the reply certainly implies that he believes there to be a grand plan to the direction of the Cosmere. I wonder what makes him believe so? Why "design of Adonalsium"? If it is shattered, how can it be designing anything? --- Also, any thoughts on what "the gemstone" is and how it can be "dead"? Argent, I believe, asked if it was the sphere Gavilar gives to Szeth and got a RAFO. My mind is crazily imagining it to be the cognitive aspect of something that is "dead" and has somehow been pulled into the physical realm (in a way opposite to Jasnah elsecalling her physical body into Shadesmar). *Edited for weird spacing
  12. Yup she is in White Sand. I hope you enjoy it RShara! Further discussion of Khriss here (and Peter chimes in): http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6803-who-is-khriss/
  13. Hum, well Khriss is definitely a human woman (from White Sand) and not a shardholder so far as I know. Although, she doesn't exhibit much Cosmere awareness in that book, so something must change about her. She is something of a scholar. I doubt that she is the writer of the reply as I can't imagine how she is an "old friend" of Hoid's. She is not Yolish.
  14. He also uses them for Kaladin. I'm not sure if any of this is significant, but what saying oaths and "leveling up" as a Surgebinder has to do with "Inspiration" I really don't know.
  15. Oooh I like it . Or maybe Shai Forged Taln onto another body.
