Renarin's Shadow's Achievements

  1. I was planning to go to Nottingham, but then Brandon decided to come to my home town of Edinburgh instead
  2. And here I thought I could trick the Nightwatcher. Bleurgh. Herowannabe: Granted. You lose the ability to drive a car and are condemned to drive a horse drawn carriage for the rest of your life. I wish I had remembered to ask for a boon the first time I posted.
  3. Yes, that's a theme of the dangers of prejudice, not knowing whom to trust, that runs right through the book. About to start The Great Hunt.
  4. Granted. You immediately develop a life threatening allergy to Shardplate and Shardblades. Your throat swells shut if you come within six feet of the material, which means that you can no longer fight alongside the nobility. You are banished to the slave quarters, where you are put on latrine duty, because this is the only place that a knight in full Shardplate would never come near.
  5. If you keep a close eye on Twitter between 6pm UK time and around 7.30-8pm UK time on October 21, you should see somebody livetweet the Edinburgh event.
  6. Is anybody planning to attend the Edinburgh talk and signing? I am, because my human alter ego lives there! (I am just going to hand Renarin's care and protection during visions over to somebody else during that time. Lopen has already been passing messages between me and a Herdazian grandmother who provided refuge for a couple of shy bespectacled boys two decades ago. I am fully satisfied that not even the Everstorm would be able to harm Renarin while I am away.)
  7. Yes, the cookie is not hemalurgic. But the earring that comes with the cookie (just a tiny earring, very fashionable), that earring ... is another matter entirely. Aileth said: The 42nd law of Sanderson: If you assume things are not related, they probably are.
  8. Yes. Absolutely. Confession time: I only started reading Stormlight because the Coppermind said it had lots of information about Cosmere.
  9. Reading orders could also be designed to make sure that people are introduced to Cosmere in a way that makes them hungry for more. For example, I saw someone on a board who had struggled massively with WoK because they thought it was just GoT with over the top world building and a Gary Stu central character. Now, WoK can certainly appear that way at first, but people who are familiar with the Cosmere know that all this world building makes sense somewhere and somehow, and people who are familiar with Brandon's work know that he's very adept at taking a cliche and inverting it all of a sudden. Not to mention the slow burn, which leads up to the Sanderson Avalanche. For such readers, Warbreaker would be a good start (Elantris might be a bit too cliched), whereas people who like intricate world building, but need to experience an Avalanche to be persuaded, would do best starting with Elantris.
  10. If the Wheel of Time got finished, the Cosmere will get finished.
  11. Must read Skulduggery Pleasant the next time I watch over Renarin during one of his longer visions.
  12. When I am not protecting Renarin, my humble abode is home to one Brony and one Allicorn in training. I am frequently asked about my favorite pony. Mine is Twilight Sparkle, for the magic I need for weaving Renarin's protection. Incidentally, Renarin's favorite is Fluttershy. The lad can be a trifle predictable sometimes. Cookies of Odium - these must be the Marmite and Cod Liver Oil cookies that Kaladin so despises.
  13. I am glad to hear that. I hear that Hemalurgic Spikes are of Ruin.
  14. I am Renarin Kholin's shadow. I come from the mists of Preservation and protect him as he sees the future. My mission is reconnaissance - to learn more about the Cosmere, its inhabitants, and the weird mind of my master's creator. ~relurks~
