  1. I really like this idea -- I hadn't thought of combining the abilities. But, if that is the case, why did Jasnah have to put her finger into the strawberry jam? I was really excited about the possibilities until I remembered the jam. Now, I'm sad. This is probably more likely.
  2. I think the Jasnah-grief would do it....read the Epigram for chapter 7, WoR. She mentions the grief crushing her.
  3. I wish I was confident enough (in my ability to understand all the many roles, and ability to log on regularly) to join in I will definitely be lurking and watching though.
  4. If they could create new heralds, then they wouldn't have had to break (or weaken) the Oathpact -- having grown tired of millennia of torture, the Herald could just pick someone new and say, "you're it, I'm done." And if one could die (and stay dead), then the torture wouldn't last long on them. I don't think passing the power fits with the "job" of the Oathpact, and if true death were possible, I'm sure they would have taken that way out by now.
  5. Options, as I see them: 1) Vasher brought NB with him when he traveled to Roshar a) NB was consequently stolen b ) NB was given away c) NB was thrown away/lost by Vasher and discovered by another 2) NB was stolen by a Worldhopper and brought to Roshar a) Vasher doesn't seem all that intent on getting NB back, so is unlikely. b ) The Worldhopper would have to be nuts, and I don't think even Hoid is that crazy. There is little evidence that NB was stolen and Vasher is after it, so it's most likely it came with Vasher. I think the better questions isn't how NB got to Roshar, but why did Vasher show up? He's likely not in the 17th Shard, since (I think) he knows Hoid is Wit. Edit: silly emojis
  6. I hadn't even thought about Ialai's reaction yet. Her intensity and drive, placed to find the killer, could be terrifying. What would it take for her to break and become even scarier -- someone with surgebinding powers? Sheesh, that gave me a shiver. But, away from the Ialai/Adolin questions -- why haven't we seen more spren outside of the Kholin's reach? While the highprinces seem ...ahem.... less than honorable, all of Alethkar can't be honor-less. And do you think Navani might bond one?
  7. Is attempted murder/assassination breaking the law? If he doesn't give up the line of revenge, it would be convoluted to make assassination a legal choice. Even if we were to agree with Moash that Ellkohar is responsible for the deaths, it wasn't illegal - just unethical and bungled, which would make it impossible to seek justice according to law. So while there is a lot a Skybreaker can get away with, I don't know if it's enough to convince me that Moash will be one.
  8. I remember Eshonai mentioning that before the Parshendi discovered the ability to trap spren in gems, they would face the storm and try to attract the spren the desired- sometimes working, sometimes not, but usually not (which is why they had such a limited number of forms known. Also, Didn't Rlain/Shen warn Dalinar that any parshmen (and Parshendi) out in any storms will change to stormform? If so, that implies that the voidspren are the only spren available during a either type of storm now. Or at least, other spren won't come near the Parsh when voidspren are about.
  9. It's a super-continent on the planet Roshar. We've not seen a map that shows anywhere else - and the WoB makes me hesitant to declare the continent is the ONLY place Urithiru can be.... there might be a really large island? or something Edit: fixed grammatical mistake
  10. I'm not sure agree with the theory that killing Sadeas is what breaks Adolin; I just don't see him feeling too guilty or upset by this. It's not his first killing by a long shot, and I don't think he views it as murder. Sadeas attacked his father, Adolin, and their troops (albeit passively) when he trapped them on the plateau. In light of this, the death is clean. (I think he erased his chalk and hid his actions, not out of guilt, in order to protect his father from further fighting with the other high princes.) However, I am intrigued by the idea that his realization that his blade is a dead spren may be the breaking. Finding out that he has been torturing (the soul?) of a spren may drive him to the breaking point.
  11. Thanks for the welcome I have read WoR, but only twice. Thus, there is plenty I may have missed. I was simply using 'proper' to indicate I think it is on Roshar the planet and Roshar the continent.
  12. Urithiru was built in a way (rounded Leeway walls, straight stormwise walls) that seems to be ready for the Everstorm, which indicates a strong likelihood that it is on Roshar proper and not a moon. If building in a region unlikely to be ravaged by highstorms or the Everstorm, the architecture would be more symmetrical than the design indicates. Could being "close to Honor" have some correlations to the Well of Ascension or the Pits? Meaning a coalescing of Honor's essence/power, not neccessarily the Shardholder himself. Then Urithiru would be similar to Luthadel.
  13. I would guess that Renarin's breaking came due to his ailment - either one of his seizures or treatment from others because of his perceived weakness. In WoK, there are hints at something bad happening to Jasnah when she's talking to Shallan -- I can't remember which scene exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's the bit after the alley scene. Edit: I'm sorry for the repeat of info regarding Jasnah. My connection isn't fast and it took quite a while to type and then wait to post.... as soon as I posted, I saw he previous post. Sorry!
  14. The Adolin KR Order discussion is fabulous! However, I would like to add something to an earlier aspect of the conversation. What is the definition of a Radiant? I think of Radiant and Knight Radiant as two different titles. Radiant is almost synonymous with surgebinder; it represents someone who has begun the progression of oaths and has access to surgebinding powers. A true KR would be one who has completed all the oaths. It would make sense in an organization such as the KR to have titles/names for the lower levels, those still learning their powers and oaths. So, surgebinder (introductory oath), Radiant (2-? oaths), and KR (all oaths). All that's required to be a Radiant is a progression of oaths (or in the case of the non-oath Lightweavers, a progression of self-understanding). However, in any organization, you run the risk of all top-tier hierarchy being eliminated in some way, so the lower ranked members take the title of leaders, jumping their way to full KR without the oaths. Basically, in my version of the terms, anyone who has progressed past the first, spren-led oath, would be a Radiant. In normal, full-functioning Orders, a KR would be someone who has trained and progressed through all the oaths. In times of emergency or in special cases, the title KR could be granted to someone without the oaths IF leadership was needed. So, Jasnah, Renarin, Kaladin, Dalinar, Lift, and Shallan are all likely Radiants (have said the first two oaths or more). While, Dalinar, Kaladin, Renarin, and Shallan are KR simply because they are the current leaders of the Orders thus far. I
