The possibility that Adonalsium engineered his own shattering strongly reminds me of the plots of two different Graphic Novels. Both of these have to do with an unchangeable being trying to experience something new. Heavy spoilers for the overarching plot of The Sandman (by Neil Gaiman) Heavy spoilers for the overarching plot of Lucifer (by Mike Carey) Adonalsium's shattering being a variation on this theme would be really cool imho.
