  1. Not that far below her statiom, as Lirin is third dahn I believe.
  2. When I stubbed my toe last week and yelled, "By the Lord ruler!"
  3. I would add Joel (The Rithmatist) for math but I feel like he can't teach math
  4. What characrwr, from any Brandon Sanderson novel, novella, etc, would you want to tutor you in school? In what subject? Why? For me I think I would want Elend to be my Philosophy tutor. Or maybe Literature. He seems like he'd be good at Literary Analysis.
  5. No, that was someone else with all the gods, mine focuses on 3 characters from the same village who witness a horrifying event and have wildly different reactions. The magic system is based on nature and comes from a user's ability to meld mentally with nature around them. The converse (don't wanna say evil) magic system is based on pain and uses technology to focus and enhance the nature magic because the nature magic all but disappeared many years ago...until now at least. The setting is a classical greece inspired world, but with steam punk elements
  6. Yea, that's kind of what I was thinking when I first thought of the idea, but I didn't know how to really explain it fully, as I only had a very basic understanding of the Metallic Arts, considering that I was unaware that there were 2 other books in the trilogy (No clue how I missed that, but I was very happy to learn that there was more to read!), and I'll definitely keep this idea in mind as I work my way through the series. I'm currently around 200 pages into HoA, but I have finals this week so that's gonna put a dent into reading time.
  7. So, if you look at my tagline/signature, you will see that I have a progress report meter detailing where I currently am in my current project. And if you read the words there you will see that I am in the process of writing the first manuscript. I'm currently a few thousands words in and have been for about a month now. But school is finally over and I will have a good deal of time on my hands over the summer and so I plan to throw myself over the cliff and begin writing in earnest, with the goal of having a first draft completed by August 14th, the day before I return to school. I have a plan for how I will go about achieving this. I know myself and how I work, and so I know that I need to enforce a routine on myself. I have already spent a few months outlining the plot and building the world and magic system. I will spend at least 1 hour every day writing, but I am shooting for 2-3 hours per day, with the exception of weekends. Basically, I will pretend to be a "professional" writer to some extent. Now you're all probably asking yourselves, "Great, but why is this on here?" And my answer is that I need some more motivation than internal motivation. So, I hope that at least one person will remember to hold me to my promise and occasionally ask me where I am in the novel. And should I not finish I would expect that someone would make a suitable amount of fun of me. tl;dr: I plan to write a first draft over the summer and I want to tell people so I feel a desire to please my peers and finish. Peer pressure can be manipulated for good!
  8. I literally have extra paperback copies of Brandon Sanderson books that I just give to people and say, "Read!" I have gotten a bunch of my friends into them!
  9. Perhaps the energy stored within other metals could act as a substitute for electricity?
  10. I don't know if this idea has been suggested yet or anything, but while reading of Well of Ascension it occurred to me that Feruchemy could possibly be applied to a computer-like concept in a modern setting. Perhaps a digital display for information stored in copperminds? Something interesting definitely. Anyone have any ideas expanding off of this?
  11. I wasn't originally going for a weird genre mash of cyberpunk in a fantasy sort of world but now that you mention it I absolutely love it. Will do some work on the idea of including it in a coding language type thing. Thanks for the help!
  12. I've been developing this magic system for the last week or based on the idea of words being able to shape raw materials. Basically, there are the base materials of metals, stone, and wood, which these words are able to shape based on a few basic commands. The syntax of a Wordsmithery(?) is: Declare what material you're working with (I'm toying with the idea of giving each different type of metal, wood, and stone a unique name in some fantasy language, but for now...), then give a series of commands defining how the material will be shaped. I'm thinking along the lines of transformation, rotation and some other commands based on 3D modelling software commands. I think that this will lead to cool sequences and descriptions in a book, but my only problem is that it will be too complicated if it's in another language, but if it's just in English it won't feel mystical. So there's that and the worry that it simply isn't a very good magic system for a book. Any ideas for how to make it work/if it will work, or ideas for expanding on the system itself.
  13. It was the suggested username I got on Xbox Live 6 years ago and I just really liked it so I kept it. I like it still, I think it gives me a certain...je ne sais pas!
  14. The Martian by Andy Weir. Hell of a hard SciFi book. One of my favorites in the genre. its fantastically well written and didn't drag on. I devoured it the day I bought it!
  15. Write more please...it's very good and interesting and I want to read more
