  1. Thanks Kurkistan. What is the policy on something like this, where a duplicate thread is created? Should I just delete this thread?
  2. If you could bypass that limitation, everything burned would be compound strength, albeit a more limited quantity as you cant make more. It would make for interesting ractions with other systems: What would happen if you burned The ability to soul cast? Would you be able to soul cast an incredible amount of material at once?
  3. Theory: The reason Shardblades cannot cut through Shardplate is that just the amount of investiture in the plate stops them. I think that Shardplate is more than just a tool to stop Shardblades. We know that it grants phenomenal strength and speed to wearers even when they don't know what to do with it. As well, we see many of its other magical properties in the form of its transparent helmet and its auto re-sizing to fit the wearer. Now, all of this requires constant Stormlight infusion, which means that Sharplate needs to be powered at all times so as not to lock up. I think it is the investiture more than the plate that gives it its resistance to Shardblades Think of Nightblood. He is definitely going to need to be able to fight against Shardblades, but he is only a regular sword with an incredible amount of breaths. I think this investiture alone will protect him. If my theory is correct I wonder if a person sufficiently invested (a full KR with as much Stormlight as he could hold, maybe the Lord Ruler or the God King) would be immune or at least resistant to a Shardblade's cut. What do you all think? Some related topics which would be helpful to this discussion are: -How does a Shardblade fair against cutting a fabriel? -Why does a Shardblade slow when entering a body? -Has a Shardblade ever cut a gemheart?
  4. Welp, it is indeed a "It's not yours so you cant burn it," wort of situation. Thanks!
  5. We know based on compunding that it is possible to change the spiritual frequency of a metal through feruchemy. This allows the allomancy to power the feruchemical charge as opposed to the initial metallic charge, which leads me to wonder, what about a hemolurgical spike? I know according to a WoB (which for the life of me I cant find) that you cannot compound another feruchemist's charged metals, so this may be a case of "It's not yours so you cant burn it," Still, if it where possible to burn that spike, would it power the stolen Investiture type? Could you power regrowth with allomancy and copy a gold compounder? I know there isnt gonna be much information out there on the answers to these questions, jsut wanted to get people's opinions
  6. The flowers of Elgi(may have speled that wrong) may be that exact thing
  7. I have been given so much to learn on my first day within the forums. It's like having another Cosmere book! Question about this theory: Why do you assume the realms have a linear connection. I understand the idea of copying the Cognitive portion of a command over, but I dont necessarily think that the cognitive portion would require a Spiritual source, rather, I think the cognitive portion is coupled with an independent intent which comes from the spiritual realm. I think all awakening needs a spiritual component to understand the purpose of a command, as I believe that they follow the Awakener's intent as well as their idea. The command "Protect me" garnered too effective a response for me to believe it was all imagined in the mind of a person terrified for their lives. I think an awakener copies a cognitive command and a spiritual Ideal into the command, which allows it's intent to be followed. That portion, however, is much more difficult, and I think that is the reason some commands are inherently more difficult than others. If this were true, it would allow for far more complicated commands including sentience. I don't think you could give an object sentience with just the cogitive realm alone (though that is based on gut feeling, rather than had fact). Something that is alive needs more than a task, and the idea that something like Nightblood was formed purely through a copying of a mental idea doesnt seem to fit. It is now late, and I am sure I am not making any sense. I will take some time to mull over all the information I have gathered and try to make it all fit together.
  8. So, if the Commands are the focus, and if (humor me) breath is the investture, what is color? It doesnt have to be a certain type of dye to allow Awakening, and the color itself doesnt matter to what you are doing (like a certain metal would). Interesting... Even if color is the investiture, what is breath then? I will ponder this a bit. Thanks for the ideas and feedback
  9. And yet, Brandon has implied Nightblade will be able to feed off of Stormlight saying "Investiture is Investiture." To me this seems like he is saying Nightblade feeds on Investiture, and since breath is what nightblade feeds on... You do raise a good point, I dont really know what role color plays in awakening. Maybe, like the Allomantic metals, it is a focus. Just a theory
  10. Thank you so much Moogle! I had read that a little while ago but couldnt for the life of me remember the details.
  11. That still makes me wonder about the relationship of the splinters and investiture (investiture being my biggest interest in the Cosmere, which is why I focus on it so much). Still, I think you are right that I am reading too much into the word "exactly", which will undoubtedly lead me down the wrong path. Still, it was an interesting word to use...
  12. So, if it is Preservation's own investiture flowing through you to create Allomancy, does that mean all Allomancers on all worlds draw from Preservation to use their power (not a question you can answer, I know)? I thought of investiture like electricity: Shards build their people with the correct "wiring" to accept the "current" but the power is universal Thanks for the clarity on Feruchemy
  13. Breath is investiture given to the people of Warbreaker (I cannot remember the name of the world). Nightblood is the result of an INCREDIBLE amount of breath forced into consciousness and given form. If Brandon said that they are exactly the same thing, that would imply that not only is a large enough quantity of Breath condensed considered a Splinter of Endowment, but that the Splinters of Honor are really jsut sentient investitures in incredibly large quantities. Unless there is something more to breath than just simply investiture, but Brandon has said "investiture is investiture" in terms of Nightblade needing something to feed on. Now, having said all of that, that is all entirely resting on the fact that we were told the truth about Nightblade's creation... which isnt garunteed
  14. Investiture is the fuel of magic in the Cosmere. In the Stormlight Archive series, it exists as the titular Stormlight and is absorbed into the body and directly "burned" to cause an effect in the world. In Warbreaker it exists as "breath" granting humans the ability to sense one another and, in increased amounts gives them super human abilities. To create an effect on the outside world, it must leave the Awakener's body and be invested in an object with intent. Both of these systems deal with raw investiture, and investiture has to leave the body to perform its work. Then there’s Allomancy. Allomancers do not consciously deal with investiture, they deal with metal. Metal is burned to allow them to perform their abilities. This raises the question: where is the investiture? Is it in the metal of Scadrial? Is it in the Allomancers themselves? All of the Mettalic Arts deal with these metals, but does that mean the metals are special? I need help from those of you who remember more WoB than I do: What has he talked about in terms of where the investiture comes from in Allomancy? I know he said that allomantically viable metals could be made from soulcasting, which leads me to believe the metals aren’t the source. Is the source in the people of Scadrial, like breath? Is it leftover investiture from burning Preservation’s body that has been passed down somehow, generation through generation? Am I missing something so blindingly obvious I will be embarrassed when someone points it out? Let me know Thanks for reading! I would love feedback, as I want to make sure these ideas make sense. P.S. Am I going crazy or do I remember correctly that Ferrochemy isn’t from preservation or Ruin. It has been a long time since my last read, and I will be rereading the series shortly making notes along the way, but I seem to remember that being said. If so, this is very important
  15. I read my first Branderson book about a year ago, but it was only recently that I really got into Cosmere theorizing. I am hoping to go through the books again with pencil in hand and pull out as much information as I can about the Cosmere itself and the Magic therein. Happy to be part of a community of people who love these books as much as I do (probably more )
