  1. I always thought that Atium was part of Ruin's body that was trapped on Scadrial by Preservation. So once they Shards were combined into Harmony and fully restored, Atium would no longer naturally occur on the planet. Is that not correct?
  2. I can understand why it might feel like Telsin's powers came out of nowhere. I think some of beats are a little looser in these books since they aren't a "main" series. But, we did know that she had been given powers. Wax mentions that she is a leecher once they are hit with the cube. I also didn't see it as a surprise since we learned in the temple that the Sets top people, like Edvard, were spiked. So it seemed obvious she was. At the end of the book either Wax or Wayne even states that it makes sense that one of the powers she chose was healing because who wouldn't. As for Sazed not knowing what would happen to the southerners, between the Mistborn trilogy, these books and the Secret History of Mistborn we know that the Shards are limited in what they can foresee. He was also doing all this in the first few moments of godhood. He didn't take time to explore every action and every consequence. And maybe he did know what would happen in the south but what was he supposed to do? Sazed just put the world back were it was before TFE. Mucking around with the natural order caused huge problems in the first place. Seemed like the safest, best choice.
  3. Personally, I liked the Steris/Wax romance. It felt very genuine. We saw, through Wax's eyes how his point of view began to change over the 3 books. That definitely didn't feel rushed to me compared to how romances usually evolve in books and movies. Personally, I don't think Wax IS in love yet. I just think he really cares for her now and could see love happen.
  4. Pestis Just to touch on a couple of points you made. It's clear from Brandon's books that the Shards are very much tied geographic location and are not omnipotent. It's likely Sazed couldn't predict or even maybe even completely aware of what was going on in the South. It's a mistake to think of Sazed as a god in our traditional ways. We also know that another Shard is in play on this world. Who knows what that Shard has been up to in the south. Keep in mind, that we are learning things from the character's points of view. There will be holes and mistaken assumptions. We don't have the whole picture. For example, why would we know about Telsin's abilities? She kept them hidden from all of our characters. That was her whole goal. Or another example - why would we have heard of Southern Scadrials? No one from the Basin has ventured that far south. There is still much going on we don't know about yet or don't have an explanation of yet.
  5. The bizarro Kandra did mention to Suit that they were moving their plans forward. Something big is coming. It won't just be a hunt for Telsin.
  6. I'm still reading through this entire thread, I just finished the book last night, but wanted to mentioned how much I loved this book even though I found the end a bit of a let down. I was very disappointed once Wax got his hands on the BoM. I was waiting for him to land in the middle of 100 soldiers and we could see him really unleash those powers, taking them all on before finishing of Set. As it is, hit was anti climatic for me. Apparently it only took a handful of weak captives to take out dozens of soldiers. Other than that I loved nearly every bit of this book. I'd put this one above every Mistborn Except Final Empire and Hero of Ages. Where the last book felt like a detective story this one felt very much like an Indiana Jones adventure!
  7. Interesting but I wouldn't take Marasi's phrasing as a evidence unless Brandon is dropping meta hints through his character's which aren't even aware or have hints of other worlds. She doesn't know anything about breathes so why would her saying that mean anything other then her referring to magical objects activated by incantations or words?
  8. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the response!
  9. Hi, I signed up years ago but don't know if I've ever posted. So this may be my first. I was thinking about the Stormfather and thought, what if it's Kelsier! It was a fun idea but clearly insane. It got me wondering though: Is there an official timeline for when all the books take place? It seems clear that Elantris is before SA but other than that I can't be sure what order any of the books may have. Has this been posted or discussed anywhere?
  10. I finished the book a few days ago but have been thinking over it before posting. In fact, I think this is my first post on here although I may have posted some back when the BS forums were on his own website. Brandon has changed forever how I read novels and even his least favorite books I find more appealing than many others out there. WoR was below WoK for me in many ways but this highs in this book were higher than they were in WoK. I just want to address a few things in the books instead of retreading common ground. 1. Kaladin's conflict - I loved that I hated it. Kaladin made me so mad I want to slap him. I've heard people upset about Kaladin seeming to regress or have a this conflict after he seemed to "get better" after WoK but it makes total sense to me. For a long time I lived very poor in a very rich area and saw very rich people ignore and sometimes abuse those less fortunate. In their daily course of living they developed a condescending attitude towards others without even knowing it and it started to affect me in nearly the same way it affect Kaladin. Is conflict is anything but superficial or forced and I could see why it would be something so hard for him to overcome that he would inadvertently forsake his previous oaths. 2. Pacing - This is how I would split up the book first 15% - interesting next 30% - borderline boring next 30% - painful and frustrating last 25% - pure awesome I really struggled with that section in the middle-ish. Shallan traveling through to the SP along with what was going on in the SP was a bit tedious for me at times and seemed overly long Overall the book ended up being fantastic with lots of hints here and there regarding the over-arching story line. I enjoyed seeing Shallan coming into her own exploring her abilities and the climax (although at times predictable down to the scene) was maybe the most exciting climax of any book I've read. Shallan's story is too alien from my own life experiences for me to find her character as interesting as Kaladin and for that reason and the slowness through the early middle WoK still holds the top spot for me. Waiting 14-16 years to get the rest of this story may kill me.
