Crazy theory time. (spoiler)

So. I was doing a re-read of WoK and found something odd. Jasnah calls the Parshendi Voidbringers. Yet some of the descriptions are of large beasts and odd creatures. Here is the crazy theory. What if all of the creatures are one of the forms of Parshendi? There are About 100 forms the Parshendi can take and they dont remeber them all. There are a few parts in the book that I will post later that, kind of, support this. Thoughts?

We see what thunderclasts are created by in WoR, first Dalinar flashback.

I think the odd creatures are greatshells.  There was red, orange and violet blood in the WoK prologue.  Red would be human, orange is voidbringer/parshmen, and violet would be greatshells.  There's probably a maximum size to which parshmen/Parshendi can grow (square cube law).

It'd be really great if the greatshells were actually allies of humans (with the right spren) and the humans have been hunting them to extinction all this time.

The irony is so solid, a Lurcher can burn it. :)

I think everything with a gemheart is going to be susceptible to voidspren. From the Reshi islands to the beetle with its gemheart so tiny yet powerful.

I agree with you on that. That is why I think the Parshendi have gemhearts.

The Reshi isles... being possessed... by voidspren. I read that post three times before the horror sank in. I think my confidence in the protagonists just got radically lowered.

I mentioned this somewhere a while back, but at first I didn't believe the Voidbringers where the Parshendi - it just seems like way too much of an early reveal, so

I'm totally waiting for the Reshi Isles greatshells to go on a rampage or something. We also know that this time is different from last time, so

With the thunderclasts also described as Voidbringers, we definitely don't know everything about them yet, even if the parshmen end up being Voidbringers for real there's something else going on. I doubt by the end of book 2 that everything is as bad as it could possibly be. We're not even halfway through the first half of Stormlight yet.

Also, Kobold King,

I wouldn't give up on our protagonists yet. Kaladin's "way overpowered" for normal situations, and he still has 2 oaths. Dalinar still has 3. And we've barely started gathering the Radiants. I'm pretty sure they'll be just as capable as they need to be in order to fight *gulp* the Reshi Islands......maybe they'll just stand and insult each other or something. I mean, that's how the Reshi people fight, right?

If so, then Wit and Shallan should be perfectly capable of repulsing the attack. :)

Starvin' Voidbringers don't stand a chance.

Tell that to the army of Godzillasprens. Fighting island is one thing. Fighting islands that have magical powers, for example lasers/ligthning, is some magnitudes higher. That would be one of the most badass forces of Odium imaginable, though. Thinking of it, Larkings or whatever it is that our Interlude merchant got came from the islands, right? Make that magic eating Godzillas.

Best case scenario they have verbal fights like the dragons in Skyrim.

...We're gonna need a bigger book.

If spren are Cognitive entities, can you kill them by pointing a finger at them and yelling "pew pew"?

Kenny Kobold, it's not "pew pew", it's "bang bang bang".

And yeah, halfway through this topic my thoughts turned to the Reshi isles. I will now be supremely disappointed if they don't go on a rampage.

Sydney Scroungers crossover, anyone?

  • 1 month later...

Hey i was just doing a reread of WoR, and i noticed a thing in Dalinar's vision of the pure lake that really makes me think that the thunderclasts are a parshendi form.

It looks a little like a face--a shadowy one, with red eyes. It swims through the water like a fish. Wait! There's another one. Joining it. Larger, like a full figure, easily six feet.A swimming person, but like a shadow... The larger spren twisted, then dove downward in the water, vanishing into the rocky ground.
WoR 74-75

I think that the bigger "spren" is really just another form of the parshendi. possibly shadow form. and in this shadowy form parshendi can inhabit and control inanimate objects. namely stone.
